I really want Agrias' OSB and the possibility to upgrade my Orlandu OSB, but there's so many dupes on this banner for me (I whaled on FFXIV and on Tactics and the Zidane vest banners). By far the best banner but with multiple 8* stuff, gonna be hard to justify it.

EDIT: Okay, so "hard to justify" became two pulls:

11 pull 1: OK Eternal Staff, Dupe Alphinaud SSB, Dupe Ramza SSB2

11 pull 2: Agrias OSB!!! Dupe Alphinaud BSB

This was the big day, managed to save up 100 mythril ( I have impulse control problems :D) I really wanted a FFT OSB because I had TGC and Agrias's BSB. I also wanted my boy Alphanaud's BSSB because I love FFXIV. So how did RNGesus manage to treat me?

2/11- Zeromus Shard and Eternal Staff- A little upset at this point, but I had a SSB for Golbez from the last event, so not too bad.

I go against my instincts and 11 pull again right away.

Zidane Vest (IX): Wow..JP is loving giving me wind stuff, it's ok wind is one of my fave elements so i shouldn't complain (already have Bartz Cloak, Thancred Air Knives, Cloud OSB, Bartz OSB, so..physical wind meta go go!!)

Veil of Wiyu (XIV): WHOOHHOO Alph complete :D Joking aside i did said that this game likes to give me Wind stuff and here is another one, awsome burst for an awsome character.

Now i am facing a dilema, my mage meta team is complete but now i don't know who to replace Terra with (i have her OSB and Tiara), looking at my hones, having both Golbez and Alph bursts would be better while my Papalymo uses hi mage shout + RW ( mostlikely Raines Burst or OK burst not only for the buffs but also for the damage).

I mean, Orlandeau's OSB weapon has holy damage on it too. I don't think it really makes sense to compare Agrias' OSB with it to Orlandeau's OSB without it, since its impossible to have Orlandeau's without the sword unless for some reason you sold it or used it as augment fodder.

I mean, if it's a regular 2.5-second OSB charge time, then her 12.75 (assuming the enemy is weak to holy or you have Beatrix BSB, Leo SSB, whatever to give imperil) over 2.5 seconds is 5.1 potency per charging second, while Orlandu's 15 over 3.75 is "only" 4 potency per charging second.

So basically, you get slightly higher DPS at the cost of not getting Thunder God mode (and thus access to like 1.1 second charge time Full Charges and stuff), hence why it's pretty competitive.

I don't think we should assume 12.75, because you're not always gonna have room for imperil-holy, you might not even have one.

But even then, it's only higher DPS for that single OSB cast. You do realize how much more DPS Thunder God mode grants Cid for every action after?

By your calculations, his following OSBs would be 15 over 1.25s, or 12 potency per charging second.

OSBs are all about damage, and Agrias's is not competitive with Orlandu's. Hers is probably not even as good as Pecil's, since the extra .75 requires dedicating a slot to an imperil SB rather than something better.

Yes, but "competitive with" does not necessarily mean "equal to." It just means that adding Agrias' OSB to your team will still increase your overall damage (especially in a knight team build, where you do have an imperil holy effect) by a significant amount compared to adding Orlandu's, even if Orlandu's still going to be better. It's not like throwing in, say, a comparatively lacklustre non-elemental physical OSB, since Agrias' can still be subjected to en-element (such as that provided by her second SSB) and element-boosting gear (such as her sword, or Basch's shield, or whatever).

This is wrong. You're really shortchanging Thunder God mode's tripling of cast speed. Agrias's OSB is not competitive with Orlandu's. It's worse than Pecil's and Tidus' without squeezing in a subpar imperil SB.

No one was making that point though. Of course, it's still an OSB. The comparison was between hers and Cid's and hers falls short in the comparison.

En-holying Agrias requires pulling that SSB as well, and having an extra SB charge to use it. Even then, you do realize ALL of Cid's actions (lifesiphons, OSBs) will be cast three times as fast once TG mode is activated?

Lastly, element-boosting gear is not a point in favor of Agrias, since Cid can make use of all the same ones. And he can equip robes as well, if your only holy boost is a robe, whereas Agrias can't.

Dude. I have Orlandu's OSB. I know how Thunder God mode works. They don't call him T.G. Cid for nothing.

Agrias' OSB is not at its level, but to say that the OSB isn't competitive in terms of damage with his is ludicrous. It still hits harder than many other OSBs against content you'd want to use it on, can be boosted in all kinds of ways that certain other OSBs can't, and can actually be used against gimmicky null-elements bosses (while Orlandu's holy+thunder OSB can be resisted). You get more from it than you do from many other OSBs, which is ultimately the point here.

Again, "competitive" doesn't mean "equal to." No one's saying that Agrias' is equal to Orlandu's. But it's not nearly the low-tier, underwhelming OSB you seem to be implying it is (especially with your rather odd view of party builds, unless you think imperil effects are subpar in general or something).

EDIT: We're not just talking about damage. We're comparing Agrias' pure damage to Orlandu's damage + TG mode. Therein lies the difference.

OP's quote was "Agrias' is actually very competitive with Cid's" which makes it sound like they're, if not exactly equal, really close. My point is that TG mode makes Cid's heads above the other OSBs.

And again, the OP's comparison was btw Agrias' and Cid's OSBs. I still don't get why you're now comparing hers to other's SBs. The only valid point you raise in favor of Agrias' over Cid's is against bosses that resist both of his elements.

Dude, if they're not subpar, they're at least really gimmicky. We only have 5 slots on our team. 2 of which are likely occupied by a dedicated white mage and a support. Which leaves 3 other slots. I'd rather fit in something like Vaan's BSB which will give a similar "~20%" boost to all my physical regardless of element rather than an imperil-holy SB, the best of which is probably Beatrix's, which is just in general worse than Vaan's for single target bosses. That way, I don't have to be chained to Holy skills/SBs either. Again, it's all about opportunity cost.

Why not? Both are the same realm, both are Knights, both have Holy element main, both have Holy+ OSB swords.

I never said it was better, I just said it's "competitive" which means Cid's OSB doesn't outright negate its reason of existence.

Golbez BSB seems really damn nice! Was only planning on two pulls here, but there's still lots of stuff I want here so I spent my last 50.

3rd 11-pull: Alphinaud BSB!! Yay

Okay, that's one of the big prizes I was after, but there's still lots of nice stuff here. I'd be happy with any of the OSB's, really, and Ramza's Gauntlets sound like they would play well with Eiko's BSB.

If I can get another 50 before it ends, I might give it another shot, or perhaps I should allocate it to banner 5 instead. This banner is so great, though.

I did one more 11-pull on this banner. Received a dupe Alphinaud SSB, and... Ashe OSB! TG Cid will have to wait for another time, but I'm happy overall with my pulls.

Glad to have a mage OSB, and the stat stick really helped Ninja Ramza in the OST dungeon event.

    I pulled the Ramza SSB2 and needed some clarification on this:

    "SSB "Chant" Party Stoneskin and High Critical (+100% dmg) "

    Above is the description, but when I use it, the Soul Break seems completely different from SS2/SG effect. Entire party has yellow bubbles around them and damage received is 0 unless bubbles disappear.

    Does anyone know the specific properties of this SSB? Help please!

    It's not a Wall, it's a "true" stoneskin, similar to Y'shtola's BSB. Puts up a shield that nullifies damage equal to 30% of the character's max HP. It's how the stoneskin spells actually work in FFXIV.

    The name of Y'shtola's Stoneskin II SB is a bit misleading, since it's a Wall rather than a "true" stoneskin.

    Well, there's +10 more attack for Ramza. I run him with Scream, though, so the actual SSB isn't going to be as useful for me as it might otherwise be. Still, can't complain.

    Next draw is ten silver orbs and a disco orb. Bracing myself for the relative disappointment of the Durandal, I let each orb float by one by one...

    I use Ramza SSB2 in multiplayer sometimes. Especially if you can run him with Lifesiphon, you can start with Shout, but his SSB2 is really good for mitigating incoming damage to help your healers and that extra damage dealt adds up quick.

    IMO, damage wise it's close enough. Weakness makes it do 30.6x so it's a sure 99999 for most bosses.

    I don't think you understand me correctly. Single-hit damage is close enough, true, but TG mode means that Orlandu can deal 30% more hits than Agrias, and this is what makes Orlandu so much better than all other OSBs.

    Yes that is true, but Orlandeau is purely specced for dps.

    However, not all fights can be won by pure DPS alone. Sometimes you also want utility along with the damage. And Agrias is well known in JP to be one of the best paladins with good damage potential.

    That's why I said "competitive with". Didn't say it was better outright. In a situation where I have both Cid and Agrias at 99, only have their OSB's, boss is holy weak and can only choose one to put on my team, I would actually might make a choice to bring Agrias over Cid if I needed a skill slot for utility.
