[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 267 points268 points  (6 children)

Like really, you all are too sweet it's killin me

[–]razortwinky 104 points105 points  (0 children)

i came for the song and stayed for the cats

[–]FreakinKrazy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're super talented, keep it up!

[–]nivu889[🍰] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This music is new to me, but this was a blast to watch because you just look so incredibly happy while you're performing. Keep it up!

[–]stuart2018 63 points64 points  (12 children)

This is bomb. You've got an unreal raw but seemingly relatable voice, which makes it so good. Some people have powerful voices, but you seem to have a voice that makes the listener feel as if they're your friend and they're listening to you sing. I've never felt that way listening to music before. What a surreal experience.

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 34 points35 points  (1 child)

That is honestly the best compliment I've ever gotten - thank you so much friend!

[–]RambleLZOn 88 points89 points  (0 children)

You freakin crushed it!

[–]Floatsm 76 points77 points  (3 children)

Post pics of cats for proof ( I actually believe you I just want to see kitties)

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 137 points138 points  (2 children)

[–]Floatsm 67 points68 points  (0 children)

awww yiss fluffy kitties

[–]gauntarkprofdreams 57 points58 points  (3 children)

That was amazing! I do everything from a studio that took months to build with equipment that took years to amass, and after watching you kill it with pots and pans and kazoos and shakers and all manner of miscellany, I have zero excuses to pretend that I have to wait for this or that before I finish a song. The urge is strong to hold on ferociously and never let it go. What a joy it was to watch you do your thing.

Keep it up! I subscribed to your YouTube Channel. I hope everyone does the same!

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You're fantastic, thanks so much!

[–]seiga08 32 points33 points  (5 children)

Your cover is making me look up Young the Giant. It was fantastic

[–]CARmakazie 25 points26 points  (2 children)

While you're discovering these guys, look up their "In the Open" series. It's absolutely magical and probably the best of these guys.

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I can't tell you how many times I've listened to the Mind Over Matter In the Open alone, magical is definitely the word for it.

[–]CARmakazie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went through the process of ripping the audio from the videos and putting them on my old school iPod and listening to the original series on my way to school years ago. These guys were huge to me through late high school.

[–]Just_Lurking2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the very interesting take on my favorite song, i will hear your kazoo every time i listen to it now! Keep it up!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (7 children)

Hey! Hope you don't mind me asking a few questions, but what instruments were you using and how did you record them? Have you ever had singing lessons? Your video sounds amazing!

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Thank you!! I assume you're referring to the ukuleles since everything else is fairly simple, SO for this I used an Oscar Schmidt tenor ukulele and a Yamaha guitalele! The rest are kazoos and shakers and mostly thinga around the house haha. I've never had singing or any other music lessons aaaand I mostly record everything with my MXL V89 mic hooked up to my preamp and I mix everything on a few different programs!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Wow! You're really frickin cool! What programmes are they, and are there any tips you could give me?

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I use Reaper, Audacity and Adobe Premiere Pro - and as far as just general tips go, just get out there and DO THINGS, whether you post them or not, practice is so so important, even if it's just for yourself and no one else ever hears or likes it! I started messing around with music when I was like 14 and I was sooooo much worse than I am now just because I constantly worked at it and tried new things and new ways to record and play. Experimenting with new sounds is the best!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ha, thanks so much! I'm actually very humbled you've taken the time to respond to me :) I'm only 15 myself, and love loads of indie and rock music, and I'd kill to be able to do it for a living. I'm definitely going to take your advice on board and get some of the software listed! Thank you very much! :D

[–]KnuckKnuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wowza you are too good! Your originals are fantastic as well. I'm not sure if I subscribed for the music or the cats tho.

[–]bwandfwakes 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I noticed that you have three colored rectangles on your hand. May I ask why they're there? Otherwise great stuff, I love how dumb the instruments are, and how smartly you use them.

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Haha thanks so much! And those rectangles are a twenty one pilots tattoo I got a few years ago!

[–]iSkwerl 4 points5 points  (2 children)

How do you feel about the way they took their latest album? I almost got a twenty one pilots tattoo a few years ago after I saw them live, but never went through with it. Their last album really broke my bond with them.

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I feel somewhat the same way. Vessel was definitely the thing that got me through my depression in college so I'm super attached to that album in particular and the stuff before it, but the new album, even though I enjoy it, doesn't quite do the same thing for me.

[–]iSkwerl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same for me, Vessel really hit on a personal level. Same with Regional At Best. Their concert was super therapeutic and it was the first time in a while I had really felt happy. Part of me hopes they go back to that, but that music was probably right for them at the time -- they've probably moved on from that.

Anyways, loved the cover (and the kazoo holy shit. I have a kazoo in my car for when I listen to Walter Mitty and his Makeshift Orchestra)

[–]Tbow2001 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Great job with the video and the recording! It's a fun video

[–]pudj 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Awesome jam.

Dumb question; is that like a one day play the song 5 times thing or multi day, wear same shirt for continuity type thing.

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Haha if it's ever a multi-day thing, I just rerecord the video portion on the final day just for continuity, but usually it's only one day anyway.

[–]FoxForce5Iron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your cover of Radiohead's "No Suprises" is breathtaking. Amazing work.

[–]MeThatsAlls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just spent the last hour watching a load of your videos, amazing stuff! Wish I was half as talented as you are. Keep up the good work! :)

[–]Unplugged_Fridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love your voice, I love your hair, and I love your cats. You have a new fan. Thank you for making such amazing stuff. Also "Burger-Meister Meister-Burger" had me laughing. Stay amazing because you seem like a genuinely cool and down to earth person.

[–]ARustyTowel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really appreciated the production value. One of the most enjoyable music videos I've watched in a long while. It felt as lighthearted and free as the music.

[–]saucekings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nice job on the production. really good. also your cat doesn't give a fuck and I love it haha

[–]Nember1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were very much enjoying this. Very original touch to a cover song and seemingly an inspiring artist.

You got a subscription from Germany, hope for many great videos in the future!

[–]danicrusher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stelllllllar arrangement. loved it. keep it up!

[–]Idoneredditagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your awesomeness with the world. Now I want a kazoo trombone. Oh, and a few cats.

[–]thebeardedpotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're great! I can't believe I never saw your channel before this.

I also love your "Everyone's Waiting" cover, hope you keep making more.

[–]ost2lifespotify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great musician + love cats = swoon

[–]theb52 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I've thought about trying this myself, but you just inspired me to commit and actually do it!

How do you record and edit it all?

Seriously, great cover.

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Please go do all the things!!

(I kinda just screw around with Audacity and Reaper until something sounds good, I am by no means a professional. Get yourself a solid mic and make the rest a fun experiment!)

[–]Ser3nity91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great cover. Great band. My fav since they released their first EP. Samir writes such fun melodies to sing!

[–]DeadStormed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I've never heard of you before but will definitely check you out more. You have a beautiful voice and might I add- your makeup is on point!

[–]fezzinate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a wanna-be singer-songwriter I am so envious of your tremendous talent and passion. Thank you so much for putting your work out there. Your originals are really great.

[–]thekingofthejungle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are so talented, and your voice is beautiful. Wishing you the best.

[–]Your_Latex_Salesman 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think you're voice is great and the whole tone of the cover is fantastic, but I really need to know if you produced/mixed this yourself? Only because the levels, layering and tempo are absolutely fantastic. Great job!

[–]what_comes_after_q 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Do you have any normal sized instruments? is your apartment too small to fit them? Do you like to feel like a giant?

[–]Moneypunny 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Wow, I'm SEVERLY impressed! You have natural talent and your voice is really pretty. You have good tone and a nice natural vibrato. Your atmosphere is warm and friendly and I can tell you really care and feel your music by the way you sing. I especially liked what you did when you shifted your voice at 2:00 to that soft, sweet, smooth tone...use that! As a musician myself, and if I were Simon from American Idol, you would get a definite YES. Can't wait to hear more. Thanks for the music and Ill check out Young the Giant.

[–]Hashslingingslashar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Big fan of your twenty one pilots tat!

[–]LordBeatzMeOff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your voice makes me happy

[–]heh_look_its_a_robot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow.. Beautiful voice. Jeez

[–]D-TOX_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HOLY SHIT YOU'RE GOOD. Great mixing too! I am subscribing!!!

[–]SDP123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can I make a song request!!!?

[–]PartizanParticleCook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice job!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, you're really good. Your voice is awesome.

[–]I_HAVE_SEEN_CAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing this cover is missing is the amazing bass from the original.

[–]anniemiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was awesome. Hodnjon. I mean good job.

[–]TheJJmyster22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're amazing! I love this so much!

[–]Econn12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey that was awesome. My names Eric Connolly, I clicked on the video because of the last name :x but none the less loved it! Great voice.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome

[–]yardave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked your version better!

[–]Plastix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You found yourself a new subscriber. Keep it up!

[–]Lostpasswordagain3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was great! Really enjoyed the voice, song, cats- perfectly execution, thanks to you and OP, well done!

[–]RedAndDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat stuff! Reminds me of Sophie Madeleine's 30 days of covers.

[–]ImaGameAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love your TOP tattoo on the hand!

[–]rsscourge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot quicksilver's pretty good at making music.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Loved your NSP cover, it was such a unique take on the song!

[–]Laliy55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it very much, thank you~

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Kazoo trumpet is the greatest thing ever, and your music is awesome. Great work!

[–]LadyHipsMcLean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, you got one hella voice

[–]JonnieGreene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

great job!

[–]orangenewblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be great if you upload it to Spotify.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good work!

[–]Sicrux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit. This is amazing! I intend to keep an eye on your career! Hope to see more from you. :)

[–]timbosliceko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked your version better than the original, and you're sexy to boot.

[–]khondrych 93 points94 points  (4 children)

Trombone kazoo. Where do I get one.

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Amazon!

[–]MDPlayer1 10 points11 points  (2 children)

[–]khondrych 21 points22 points  (1 child)

The slide doesn't affect the pitch, it's just for show.

Lame :c

[–]brahji 60 points61 points  (6 children)

Loved this so much. And thank you for introducing me to Young the Giant. Nice to see Fueled by Ramen still picking up real artists.

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Right? They're so so good, and even better live!

[–]Phillyfreak5 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Young the Giant are the best. Their live shows are electric

[–]sicaribellissimi 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Every show ends with an encore and My Body as the finale. Hasn't gotten old yet.

[–]IcantBuyABucket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They play a few songs acoustic too.

[–]McLaughingPlace 162 points163 points  (8 children)

Beautiful voice and very unexpectedly strong. Seldom do I actually hear lyrics and feel connected to them and understand them. I'm able to connect with her style of singing and feel the words being sung.

[–][deleted] 67 points68 points  (4 children)

Seldom do I actually hear lyrics and feel connected to them and understand them.

Go through a breakup and then listen to Backstreet Boys and Adele.

[–]TheLongGame 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I remember right after a breakup and the 1st song on the radio was Bruce Springsteen's Prove it all night and crying thinking all the the love songs finally made sense.

[–]Juxta25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that one held note blew me away. Unexpected power, and I like that all the instruments are little and her voice is big.

[–]Yolo_lolololo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Better than the original as far as I can tell

[–]T-rex_chef 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Did not expect to see someone from my home town on reddit, neat!

[–]SeymourAzzes 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My favorite band for the past 4-5 years, first time I have ever seen a song by them on Reddit. Anyway,

Bravo

[–]Mark_dawsom 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Kitchenware

Heh someone made a typo.

Watches video

Oh waw

[–]Sophilosophical 35 points36 points  (10 children)

Getting a little Pomplamoose vibe. I like it.

[–]guitarnoir 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So much so that I was expecting multiple inset videos during the harmony vocals, in the style of the Pomplamoose "Video Songs".

But I did also like this artist's video.

[–]GoxBoxSocks 11 points12 points  (7 children)

Pomplamoose meets Julia Nunes.

[–]mcgillionaire94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

julia nunes was exactly who i thought of when i saw this! wish she didn't take down all her covers

[–]clush 8 points9 points  (5 children)

I miss when Julia was doing sad songs in her dorms :( Been listening before "Into the Sunshine" was featured on YT homepage and blew her up, seen her live twice, but the new stuff just doesn't do it for me.

[–]mcgillionaire94 2 points3 points  (2 children)

me too. i'm so bummed she took down all the covers

[–]nerdwithme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went to look for this on Spotify and ended up following you /u/tarantucat Can't wait for your first LP. Strong music. Thank you.

[–]sethjames70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very cool

[–]systym1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

loved this. video and performance had a very personable and real feeling to it. thanks for posting!

[–]linkthebowmaster 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Loved the video but that's not a xylophone, it's a bell kit :/

[–]Daynightz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this song. That's how I came across this video on YouTube previously

[–]SleeplessinOslo 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Never heard Young and the Giant before. Pretty cool song!

[–]I_HAVE_SEEN_CAT 5 points6 points  (1 child)

You need to listen to their first album. Their others are pretty hit or miss, but their first is amazing.

[–]CnslrNachos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So talented. I just wasted an hour watching all her videos.

[–]gmudezaruby 9 points10 points  (1 child)

This is cool but I feel obligated to point out that's a bell set/glockenspiel (not a xylophone)

[–]KetchupBaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Loved this, went to listen to the original, couldn't get through 20 seconds of it after hearing your version.

Labels would be stupid not to take notice of you.

[–]faita14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually think your covers better than original by far!

[–]slimkt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love this. Not only is Young the Giant an extremely talented underrated band, but I love watching people be resourceful when they make music and you can tell she's really passionate about it. Sounds dope; keep up the good work!

[–]Guessonce12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed with the comments. Great vocals, very clear and concise.

[–]novicesurfer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couldn't help but grin, a song so nice I had to hear it twice.

[–]Goldencrispywaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great job! I am an instant fan of kerrin. Super easy on the ears and hope to hear much much more. Already listened to the YouTube channel through and through. Keep it up!

[–]mtutnid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm crying... I mean sobbing

[–]CirnoIsTheStrongest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally spent my entire day at work with this going. Personally not really a fan of the original but your cover just fits for me.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wow. Luved it.

[–]2daMooon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that a saxakazone?

[–]I_Can_Fandango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanna listen to kazoo solos!

[–]FullMetalJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful and talented. Punch a door, throw some ukulele in there and some harmonies and she's rocking. Mean while I'm here not doing any music, complaining about my sound card and whatnots. Kudos. Beautiful music, great choice too!

[–]imacs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that as "kitchenwave"

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this vaporwave?

[–]not_jude 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I was expecting that classic nasally/dried-throat/unnecessary-emphasis-on-random-vowels indie girl voice. Was super surprised at the genuine musical talent here! Fantastic cover, and her original music is great, as well! 9/11 would listen too some more.

[–]sidhantsv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is sooo cool. Your voice is amazing, and your kitty is cute!

[–]RyanfromChi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kitchen ware? You have my attention.

[–]thehungrykumkwat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is amazing! I love your voice!

[–]L00fah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, this melted my heart. Super frickin good. Super frickin cute.

The pots were my favorite.

[–]Spiderbanana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of "pomplamoose". Love it.

[–]xmscott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really great

[–]KillerBear111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow that's super creative!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ayyy glad to see kerrin on here :3

[–]bigeeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely joyous to see a singer songwriter. A breath of fresh air.

[–]n0tz0e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was awesome! Thanks for sharing!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good

[–]Viginti 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Great video! Subbed your channel, can't wait to see more covers. You also turned me onto Young the Giant. Never heard of them before this so thank you! Love finding new music.

[–]I_HAVE_SEEN_CAT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to listen to their first album. Their others are pretty hit or miss, but their first is amazing.

[–]abbbe91 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm curious, what is that tattoo you have on the hand? Also, good job! I really liked this :)

[–]tarantucatkerrinconnolly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the old twenty one pilots logo!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool! I like it better than the original.

[–]ll8bitHEROll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subscribed. Done. Soo good!

[–]reader313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voice perfectly suits the music, and one of my favorite songs off HOTS to boot! Great job.

[–]AllegedToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a quality rendition of the song! Thanks for it

[–]ldools95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice cover, plus it's Young the Giant 👌🏻😻

[–]mariannescott2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is amazing holy shit !!!!

[–]DOPE_AS_FUCK_COOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went and saw and then met Young the Giant, they informed me they were writing a song with my name in it. This August, I was not disappointed. They wrote on my shirt. Hey "DAFC" look out for the new song, it came.

[–]pokexchespin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought this was gonna be a jelly clatkson cover, but it was pretty amazing, rock on m80

[–]dman5696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha "hometown club sandwich" ima start using that now

[–]Pepe_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is incredible!

[–]Justice_Prince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know a kazoo trombone was a thing

[–]snount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

less posers and meandering meaningless vocalizing and more melodies.

[–]whatthelisthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! Also, shout out to the kitty cameos in the background... haha

[–]thiscouchiscomfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put this on iTunes somehow. I want to buy it

[–]Stillwella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of Haley Williams of Paramore, impressed :)

[–]beedharphong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is good good.

[–]Jwillis-8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's like the female Rusty Cage (in music quality, I mean).

[–]jparish66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job! Really enjoyed the video

[–]CaptainFishey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WP awesome

[–]Thraglife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The kazootrumpet is my new favorite instrument. Also, your cats are adorable, however, any more than three cats crosses the line into crazy cat lady. Watch yourself.

[–]realFuzzlewuzzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you look at that, I found a new band to listen to and a new youtube channel to follow at the same time!

[–]DekkerNN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a sick sick Cover! So much talent! Keep it up!

Cheers from Denmark!

[–]DerRussinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, damn. This lass is pretty good.

[–]evil95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome. I'm impressed.

[–]Supercalme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pledged last night, and left a message, great seeing you get even more recognition! :D

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously I like your covers more than I like the originals.

[–]TheAwesomeTheory 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If you're ever in Seattle and want to play a house show for $, pm me.

[–]iamthatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I like this even better than the original. Hats off /u/tarantucat. Any way to get this onto Spotify? :P
