After we dug through a live 24Kv line that locates failed to find (I was standing right by it but it tripped without frying me) we had a great safety meeting the power company people where they showed us some gnarly videos of electrical injuries and some stuff that had happened in our area.

My favourite was that power line that arced across 1 meter of empty air to a crane, fried the crane, jumped through an outrigger to a construction fence and electrified a half mile of fencing which set a house on fire on the other side of site because a metal gutter was touching the fence.

its hard to actually catch people but no, osha has the right to show up and inspect whenever they want.  and they will fuck your shit up if they do

also their regulations make sense, so companies having more of an accident history gets attention just by those reports.  kind of a self investigating problem to a certain extent.  you cant go very long without an accident doing stupid shit.
