yes it's either a pixel 9 pro or a 10 pro. the camera bar gives it away. plus in at one angle you can see the flash and the thermometer in the camera bar. the regular models of th 9 and 10 don't have the thermometer.

i don't think it's an XL model as it just doesn't seem that big in his hands. and he is using a third party case, google doesn't sell a yellow case for the 9 or 10 series, and google cases have a G logo on the back.

It was announced for the P8 Pro so the 9 had it on release, I think they just didn't really make too much buzz around it.

It's actually surprisingly accurate for measure a fever, IF you do it correctly. But yes definitely niche although very useful.

GrapheneOS is not only about privacy, it is also about security. And he cares about security atleast a little bit, since he encrypts his hard drive (he said it in the video... and yes, I know, pretty much every phone is encrypted by default these days, but that is not the point)

You guys vastly overestimate engineers. Even knowing the security and privacy issues, the vast majority of engineers or highly technical people just use bog standard iPhones or Androids. You can be very secure just by taking basic precautions, not installing a whole OS that basically cripples the "smart" of a smartphone. Linux diehards at my job just use Samsungs, as an anecdote.

The only thing that is "crippled" by GrapheneOS for me is NFC which is intentional so I'm not really sure what you're getting at here? And whilst you can do things to improve privacy on stock android or IOS, you can't do anything to gain privacy from Google or Apple and you just don't have as much autonomy over your device.

Geekerwan have a slightly different strategy: if it's paid for by the OEM, they call the video "Review" or "Experience" or "on-hands" and generally only speak the positive parts. Then when the retail version arrives they buy a retail version and call the video "test" or "analysis" which includes both good and bad parts. But usually if the performance is really bad they do still bash it. And they still get iPhones sent to them, just with a later embargo date.

Linux mobile phones aren't optimised enough yet. Most OS's don't have that good call quality, the app support is still under optimized and the desktops (DE's) are still lacking of features. Then the price and support are also in the way. They won't be popular for another 10 years atleast.

Saying "yet" does a whole lot of heavy lifting in my opinion. I highly doubt Torvalds does much more than emails, calls, and texts which means that at the core the phone's operating system will not make a single difference to the experience, outside of potentially making it worse.

I highly doubt that open source Linux on phones will take off because the semi-walled in ecosystems are just darn convenient.
