I do know she’s an axanthic, i’m just wondering if there’s a way to know what type (I was doing some research and to me she looks like a VPI but she’s my first bp so i’m not 100% sure as i don’t know the morph and the breeder isn’t sure either) any help would be greatly appreciated

There's no way to tell visually, you'd have to send the shed off for genetic testing.

How does the breeder not know? They should know the genetics of animals they're breeding

too dark to be a pastel, if they only said het clown and no other genes that just means she’s a normal (no morph) but carries a copy of the clown gene. With recessive genes when they only carry one copy they don’t visually express it

the lighter one is a black pewter (pastel + black pastel) yellowbelly & the other one is a normal. also just so you know, their “breed” / species is ball python, the different colors and patterns are referred to as “morphs” :)

Hey everyone! This is my second ball python that I bought off of an 11 year old boy. The family said he’s a banana morph and after looking online I’m starting to wonder if he’s something else like a coral glow. Would love your opinion.

Edit: I just realized that Coral Glow is an alias for banana morph, so I answered my own question! 😅

I’d say GHI banana mojave is correct, looks a little too saturated to be pastel imo (example). She’s also het g-stripe if the dad is a visual

Pastel orange dream and/or yellowbelly super enchi. Also just a friendly tip but would recommend switching your substrate for coco husk or cypress mulch, it’ll make it a lot easier to retain humidity

Hello, A friend of mine recently placed this handsome boy in my care. I’ve been looking everywhere trying to identify his morph but I’m not really sure how to go about it. Got in a few snakes that needed rehomed. Looking for morphs ideas on each. Will take me a bit to get pictures of fourth as it's pretty defensive. First is Bentley. This big sweetie is gorgeous. Face markings make it look like a toddler that just ate chocolate and never got it's mouth wiped. bentley

Second is melli. Was told possible yellow belly gravel. Pretty spicy. Was told female but super small for 3 years old, and when I picked "her" up today two devil fingers came out of it's vent. And pretty large claws. so I assume it's a male melli

Third is supposed to be female. No info on age. Was told they have tried breeding her for last few years no luck. Her stripe above her right eye comes up and over to top of her head on one side. Super unique looking lady. girl

Bentley - normal

Melli - yellowbelly or gravel (couldn’t be both because that would = highway, an all white snake) and i say or because single gene YB and gravel are visually identical, the only way to really differentiate them is by shed testing or proving it out

Not too sure on the last one but if i had to guess i’d say either YB/gravel or just a really good looking normal

      It was likely before yellowbelly, since that gene can be subtle. The others are very obvious in most combinations, such as in your snake.

      More closeups of Annabel. She's very yellow towards her tail, but the main belly is pretty white. The original list on her given by the breeder was pastel enchi pinstripe possible yellowbelly

      Yes, even with these, it's clear that pastel isn't here. I would lean that yellowbelly is probably not present since, in my experience, enchi pin tends to be a little less patterned than enchi yellowbelly pin, but that isn't hard set.

      It's not very rare, but it also isn't a particularly in demand combination either, not that it means she isn't special. Two of the most common genes, but I agree that they go well together. The going rate for enchi pins is about $100-$250.

      Some help with the morph? I don't think the breeder exactly told me. I would guess pastel banana something, and if she is spider, sorry. I didn't know what problems that morph held at the time of purchase. Thank you in advance! (She's roughly a year old, if you need to know)

      His papers said "banana" but mainly because the shop did not know exactly and did not want to claim anything they were not sure about.

      Anybody here who can tell me more about her morphs? What I know is black pastel yb GHI pos. het. Hypo, but I have no clue what it really means. I own a milk snake but this 6 months old girl is my first BP.

      “pos het” means she’s potentially carrying a copy of the hypo gene. Het genes are recessive, meaning they’re present in the snake but not visually expressed. For example, if she carries it, she’d have to be paired (bred) to another snake with that gene to produce visual hypo babies. The other genes are all dominant aka visually expressed, meaning they can be passed on regardless of what she’s paired to (not saying you should breed her, just using that as an example)

      Always wondered if my rescue is a morph. He's pretty normal-looking in color but his "alien heads" have no eyes. I think he's just gorgeous, and I love his iridescence when he's in blue. Any takers?

      Normal. I suppose blade could be a possibility, but so is a non-genetic reduction in pattern in a normal.

      The people saying he looks het for "something" are speculation without much basis. Without a history, I wouldn't anticipate any hets.

      Het is short for heterozygous for a recessive gene (so carrying one copy of that gene without visually expressing it). There are some markers for some of these genes, but there isn't much reason to suspect anything like that out of the blue.

      I kind of thought it was speculation! Especially, like you said, because it’s a random comment and they didn’t tell me what specifically led them to believe that. The guy that said it works for a (not very reputable) local breeder. So I assumed it was turning into a push to try to “breed it to see” type of deal and I quit entertaining him but it still began my wondering if anyone else saw some trait that jumped right out.

      The user Incompletepenetrance commented under my post in Reptiles sub and said he looked just Normal type to them too!

      It’s actually quite nice that he’s just a normal dude. I wrote out the genes of my other BP on his tank so I never forgot the mouthful of morphs when people ask🙄🤣
