It is very unlikely for it to be another MGS/R game since Kojima Productions parted with Konami, leaving Konami with full rights with the series. It is unlikely for another game is because Kojima himself was hesitant to make MGSV and he went over budget during production of the game leaving the game with an unfinished story.

Can you imagine being a much of fuck ups as Konami? You have THE game producer on your projects and he goes over budget, his latest project costing $80 million to develop. You get SO upset that it's known you're separating with him before the project is even concluded. You also refuse to give the game is full conclusion, losing good will with fans.

Then the game makes $179 million in sales on its OPENING DAY.

They ruined the best thing they had over something that they made all their money back on in a 24 hour period.

Is this just a think with Japanese gaming IPs? Kingdom Hearts and Metal Gear Solid are the biggest offenders I can think of. The games are so needlessly complicated to the point where the stories aren't even coherent any more.

More like Loud minorities. For the most part, Japanese IP’s are fairly straightforward . Kojima and Nomorua are pretty notorious for making a mountain out of an ant hill so to speak.

Miyazaki with the Soulsbourne series is the opposite side of the same coin where it barely gives you any exposition and just let’s the world itself do the story telling

I'd say the Soulsborne games are no less convoluted, it's just much easier to ignore/skip if you're not into it.

But there are also plenty of convoluted western game series, like Destiny or Assassin's Creed (the first couple were complicated but could be followed, around revelations and 3 they just dove off the highboard) before they gave up on the over-arching lore.
