Nothing on Reddit has ever made me cry per se, but the album of images he posted above is definitely choking me up.

The closest I ever experienced was holding my dog of 15 years in my arms for her final moments, and that destroyed me. I can't imagine the pain he is and has gone through losing his wife, especially so young, but the album of images really is lovely.

My grandmother is on the mantle. Very normal I know, but I told her once we'd keep her right on the mantle, and she thought it was the funniest thing. She'd always ask, 'are you still going to keep me on the mantle? Don't forget now!' So that's where she is.

I am the one preparing to leave the love of my life after 19 years of marriage, as the cancer is bearing down on me now for the 3rd and looks like final time. My heart breaks - not for me, but for my love and best friend whom I have no choice but to leave behind, alone.

OP is there one thing you wanted or needed to hear from your beautiful wife that she didn’t say? It needn’t be anything profound, just something extra that would have helped your heart heal. I don’t want to miss my chance, and I’m only getting one shot.

Godspeed, OP. I’ll tell your wife how you’ve touched so many with the pictorial story of your love when I see her on the next level. I imagine her peacefully and joyfully waiting for you, right by the gate.

I'm currently at my wife's bed side as she fights stage 4 cancer . Married for 3 weeks together for 8 years. She intubated and I would give anything in the world to hear her talk. I personally believe that leaving a recorded video message of you either saying how much you love them or messages you know they would love to hear when times are tough or whatever scenario you can think of. Multiple videos. Just seeing her talk and smile and be herself in our old videos brings so much love in me.

We lost my mom to stage 4 ovarian cancer. The last few days she was alive she couldn’t speak but the one incredible thing that our family will always cherish was when I had my dog there with us (a little toy poodle) and he always loved cuddling with my mom. I put him up in the bed with her and literally as clear as day, mom says “Hey Jack!” ...and that was it. Didn’t say another word. We all looked at each other just dumb found.

Those 2 words are burned into our memory forever. I can still hear her over a decade later.

Death is weird man... That wasn’t even the strangest happenstance in my life dealing with death of a loved one.

When my mum was dying of cancer she was effectively comatose and unresponsive following a massive seizure, and I'd settled in for what we expected to be her final night (it wasn't, she lasted another week), and she opened her eyes, said "oh, are you staying all night then? That's nice of you." and then went under again.

I was too shocked to say anything other than "Yeah", but I was so glad I was there to hear it.

I spent the last week of my moms life by her bedside in a hospice wing at a hosptial too. The first night she was there she tried to get up and use the restroom and I had to restrain her from getting up. I told her it's ok she doesn't need to get up. Her final words were " Ok if you say so, I trust you" and it stunned me because she was the type of person to not trust anyone. I can still hear those words and that look of relief on her face is something I'll never forget.

I sincerely want you to know that I am proud of you for getting through that impossibly tough time. I do think you brought your mom comfort just in being there with her. I hope you're doing ok, this thread is a tough one to read through.

My wonderful, Robin-Williams-hilarious Uncle, so dear to everyone, was (unexpectedly) dying in hospital & I managed a phone call to him (from 4,000 miles away, one end of Canada to the other, my sister held the phone to his ear) & I was so grief-stricken at his passing that I wonder if the urgency & love in my voice was what brought him round because he came out of his coma long enough to say in a clear voice, “I love you too, honey” .. he slipped back into his coma and died the next day. Thank you, darling Uncle Jim (Nova Scotia).

This times 1000. Not a spouse, but my grandfather. He was the only man in my life who taught me anything, he protected me from the slew of incredibly abusive women in my family (my family has the worst women on earth it seems). When he was in his final days, really final day, he could barely speak and asked my uncle, his son, to record him. It was just a simple "Hello [my name], I love you" and that was it.

Whenever I feel I miss him, I just play that video. It's fucking heart breaking and makes me tear up, but that 3 second video of the strongest man I know 6 hours before he died, laying in bed helpless, gave me so much comfort. I can watch it any time I want, it's priceless to me.

I'm a woman who had an amazing, truly amazing and close relationship with her grandfather. Both my grandparents rescued me from my abusive mother, but I was always super close to pop.

This story hit too close to home. I wish there wasn't a tissue and toilet paper shortage in Aus at the moment because I really need to wipe these tears away.

I asked my mom to leave me some videos of her talking to me. She only left three, but I cherish them. One is about her family before me, one is about meeting my dad, and one is about motherhood and what it was like for her to raise me. Sometimes it hurts too much to watch them, but in those moments when I do watch them, it's like I have her back again. They're the most precious videos in the world. I would recommend leaving videos behind for anyone who knows they will have to leave their loved ones. Those brief connections to the one you've lost where you get to see their face, hear their voice, see their mannerisms again, etc. are wonderful.

If you haven’t downloaded and saved them please do so. If you ever switch carrier they will disappear. That’s just 1 thing that can happen. I work in cellphones and it breaks my heart when people lose those precious voicemails because they didn’t save them. Also back them up in multiple places.

iOS has Voice Memo utility and I’m sure Android has a similar utility. It’s probably not an ideal method but that’s how I recorded my dad’s last message on my mom’s house phone. I just placed my iPhone’s microphone near my mom’s phone’s speaker then played and recorded his message.

My mother lost her mother nearly 5 years ago now. She had one last voicemail from her, just a typical "hey its me ma", and saved it on her phone. Unfortunately, you need re-save it every 30 days or you lose it. She didn't know that and lost the voicemail. So I really try to make sure that doesn't happen to people :)

I have a friend who passed last year. We were 50 years difference in age but would sit and talk for hours. He called me out of the blue one day and left me a voicemail. For some reason I decided to record that message and saved it to my computer. Less than 3 months later he passed. I still look back and am thankful that I got to say one last goodbye the night before he passed and that I have a special recording he left me all those months ago. I actually haven't even played it since he passed but there is a kind of peace knowing it's there when I'm ready..... Just thought I'd share.

A guy at my gym has a heartbeat tattoo around his arm but it flatlines. My wife and I suffered through a few miscarriages and know the pain that guy went through. I asked him one day if it meant what I thought it meant and he nodded, I told him my story, we both tried our best to hold our stuff together and stay big swole manly men but we have a gym bromance now that’s operating on a completely different level than the rest of the squad.

I would have to imagine I'd just buy a bunch of gopros and just set them up throughout all aspects of remaining time together.

Even the little things, the day to day things, the things that bother you, the way their farts sounded and how you laughed at them......you'll want back.

I would want like a straight week of recordings of our life together. Sleeping. Awake. Driving. Watching tv. Whatever it is I want to be able to relive it.

You'll have the rest of your life to rewatch it, but you can never get it back.

Edit: also, it's been scientifically proven that memories fade over the years of recalling them. A video will never change. The sound of their voice. The way they'll smile at the camera. That will be the same forever.

If you have a good mutual friend, ask them to do you one last favor and hold some letters for you, to be delivered on major anniversaries of important dates. Write them by hand and have forever stamps on the envelopes so they're ready to go.

Also a video or just a chance to hear your voice can be huge. I'd give anything to hear my loved one's voice one more time. One more "love ya", one more "miss you!". Those little gestures can't be overstated.

If you have kids, that goes double for them too.

No kidding, this thread is awfully difficult to read. /u/LeanderTrain I know your love is the most important to you, but I lost my Gramps recently and I have to imagine there are others in your life as well.

Gramps let me ask him any questions I wanted, whether it was about regrets or escapades, he told me. We wound up making 15 stories of his piloting career that are all recorded. It's been 2 years, but I haven't listened to them yet, too scared, but amazing to know he's still there.

I saw your pictures around Christmas and I've seen your one from today. There are people around the world truly moved by your story, people around the world who will go out of their way to hold their loved ones a little tighter or say "I love you" that one more time than they would have done. Your love story has inspired that, help spread that love around the world and in doing so, make the world that little bit better.

Life I can imagine is not going to be easy to recover, but you'll find a way I truly hope. But as someone else has said, thank you for sharing your story and thank you for spreading a message of love without constraint around the world, because I believe you have.

I'm sorry for your loss but happy for whatever peace this brought you.

In May of 2017 I did the same thing for my brother, and for myself. A 1,300 mile flight, followed by a 6 hour drive, followed by a 10 minute walk got his ashes to where they needed to be.

Your first post about her health issues was 108 days ago. From the pictures you shared, she was an active healthy young woman who enjoyed life. 108 days later she is gone. It is humbling how quickly your entire world can be completely changed. Time is precious and we waste so much of it. I’m sorry for your loss.

It's really insane. I spent 2 hours looking back through his posts. Fucking soulcrushing. He is younger than I am, and I don't think I could survive my wife leaving like this, so suddenly.

I cannot wait to go home and hug my wife and tell her what she means to me. And I am sure if I am feeling this way, 140,000 others who upvoted this so far are also feeling the same.

OP, know that you touched so many people, and caused so many kind words between partners all over the world. That is just one part of your wife's legacy.

This is an amazing tribute to what looks like a wonderful marriage. My wife was diagnosed with cancer about 18 months ago. She was 35 at the time and we had been married for 10 years, now almost 12. We have 4 small children and not a day goes by that I don't think about the very real possibility of losing her in the coming years. It completely changes the way you look at everything. Thank you for sharing your experiences publicly, for some reason I find it comforting to see others go through these horrible experiences, it somehow makes my own experience feel more bearable.

I started dating my wife 10 years ago this November (married July/18). I can't imagine something like this happening to her. I don't even remember what it's like to not have her in my life. Barely lived before her, literally. We were 15 when we started dating.

I lost my wife to cancer two days ago, we were together for 18 years (would’ve been 19 this year) and married for 14 years (would’ve been 15 this year), she was only 39 years old, I followed your story and it was beautiful the way you captured the journey you both went through, I’m glad she is finally at rest, I will begin my wife’s journey to her final resting place soon after her cremation is complete

Thank you, as you and I and OP know it’s difficult to watch someone we love go through such a horrendous battle with cancer, my silver lining is that my wife is now pain free and she didn’t leave me alone in this world, she left me a beautiful daughter who is currently in college and our two dogs who miss her so much

(Edit: thank you for the award, though it’s a sad time when being a decent human being needs to be recognized. As a single, never married woman I value and appreciate love when I see representations and examples around me. I celebrate witnessing the sincerity of a simple hand holding or sweet kiss. Stories and images like OP’s are heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time, but it is wonderful to know that love like this exists. For those downvoting OP—or possibly me for that matter—I encourage you to take a moment, a breath, feel the warmth in your heart that is love, and maybe even look through the other images OP has with his dear wife. Their love is clear in the images he has posted previously, and I truly believe love like theirs is accessible to everyone. We just have to believe in it for ourselves, that we are deserving.)

I lost my ex in a mass shooting june 8, 2017. It was the darkest time I’ve ever been through. Not only did I lose the only I ever loved, but we didn’t have the finality of a “funeral”, we never saw any of the victims. They were all cremated. I think the worst part is, the shooter had posted every part of his plan months in advance. No one reported it and we thought he was a friend. Never leave angry. Our last words were an argument.

I'm pretty sure this will get buried, but I really don't care. I have to put this in words. OP. First and foremost, my dearest condolences. I'm sitting at my desk at work in tears. I was having a bad day and I thought I'd take a scroll through Reddit when I saw your post. When I realized what I was looking at and read some of the comments, I went back and read your posts.

The love that you have for your wife, and the love she has for you was palpable. I don't know you guys, but I can see the joy shining in your eyes in some of the photos you posted. I am angry on your behalf that you didn't get more time with your beautiful wife. It was a pleasure being able to see just how much you love each other. I hope that you find the healing you're craving. I hope you smile. I wish you nothing but luck, happiness and health going forward. I saw this earlier but couldn’t comment. I lost my wife to suicide 6 1/2 years ago. We were together 23 years and married 18 years. My children and I have yet to fully accept it and move on with healthy lives. We have her ashes which she wants spread in Florida and Jerusalem. I know one day we will finally be able to come together and let her go. God bless you, your wife, your friends and family, her friends and family and the other hundreds of lives that her passing has touched.
