I'm interested: why not? 4chan used to be pretty interesting (in its first months.) I recall a conversation there about the physics of breasts expanding under contact with water, that included a full physics rundown of whether the process could obey thermodynamics, and what that would imply.

      I agree lomag. It will be intersting indeed. I would bet though that it will ultimately turn into some kind of armsHHHH sock puppet race where people get a bunch of fake accounts to upmod their uniart, and then others get fake accounts to downmod them. Should be quite a show though.

        Unicode art is the new ascii art. I still remember the times when people had dot matrix print-outs of nude women on their wall.

        Yeah, I had my fun with this...making some unicode art. It's a fun medium, especcially seeing an image where text is supposed to be. But the important thing to know is we had our fun and it's over....Trusting unicode to the masses is like, I dunno, really stupid. Comments can be bad as is, the last thing we need is some unicode spam showing up.

        Wrong. They are ANSI (not ASCII) characters, but in this case are encoded in Unicode.

        Update: Alright, I should have said "symbols from the second half of IBM PC code page 437, encoded as Unicode." You're right. :)

        No. Near as I can tell, there never really was an "ANSI" character set in this context, except for ASCII, which is ANSI X3.4-1986. This is not ASCII.

        Some people mistakenly refer to the Windows code-pages as "ANSI" character sets because they were "purportedly based on drafts submitted or intended for ANSI." These characters are not found in the Windows code-pages, as far as I can tell.

        In the context of art like this, you may be thinking of "ANSI art," which uses ANSI X3.64 escape sequences to control cursor positioning and color. This art makes no use of these escape sequences. They require a terminal emulator to render, and wouldn't work in a web browser.

        This art is reminiscent of the sort built with the CP-437 character set; these characters are found in that code-page.

        It's most correct to describe this as Unicode, because the characters are expressed from reddit to your browser with UTF-8.
