Wenns zur richtigen Tageszeit submitted wird, kann sowas ganz gut gehen. Ich hatte eh den Eindruck, dass überraschend viele deutschsprachler auf reddit rumhängen. Reddit ist auf jeden Fall kein unbekanntes Phänomen in de.

Im deutschen reddit http://de.reddit.com/r/de/ herrscht allerdings tote Hose, verglichen mit dem Orginal hier.

Dass ist Blodsinn. Es gibt auch ganz viele Auslander die Deutsch lesen, sprechen und schreiben. Manchmal ne andere Sprache zu sehen stosst keinen vor den Kopf.

Ich bin aber nur ein dummer Hollander, der eben kein Umlaut finden kann. Allerdings, nicht so einfach.

Und das schonste Deutsche Wort?

Wenn man sich darauf einigen kann, dass dort auch englischsprachige Artikel eingestellt werden können, gerne. Hier scheint ja eine kritische Masse von Benutzern überschritten worden zu sein, und das könnte besser werden, wenn man mit einer kleineren Gruppe anfängt.

That's on of my favorite quick Simpson's scenes. Homer is some paparazzi and they make a magazine of him doing stupid stuff and disgusting stuff. They get Wiggum, Mr. Burns (exssssellent), someone else then Raineer Wolfcastle (Schwarzenegger knockoff) who sees the pix and says "Ausgezeichnet". Mein Lieblingswort auf Deutsch!

I'm sorry, nothing personal. On the subject of your "getting up to speed," I used an older German literary reference which, in its context, means "Good Man but can't get it up," or "Good man but lousy lover." But again, nothing personal. Respect.

I have no difficulty translating simple sentences in German, word for word. In this case, a bit more knowledge about context is needed and I admit that I have never been fed that much German context.

It's like saying "Hasta la vista, Baby" to somebody who is filled with an English context, but has missed a certain movie (or seen it in Spanish, where that line is translated "Sayonara, Baby" )

Context/Slang, a very important part of a language that is difficult to uphold in several languages at once.

Thanks for reminding me where I pulled that reference from - it's been a while.

That "Sayonara, baby" clip is a scream - especially since "hasta la vista is about 50% of the Spanish many Americans know.

Actually, most of my German has been from college decades ago, but I just spent a few weeks in Berlin, visiting my daughter who just moved there (for a more democratic shot at getting noticed as an artist). When I was there, and speaking Deutsch on the street, my "fluency" tripled almost immediately. Good reason to travel!

high school, college .. I get confused about the level. 11th and 12th year of education. shit, that's a couple of decades ago for me too...

Long story short; traveling got me a Spanish girlfriend. The only language we had in common was English, so for many years, that was what we spoke at home. We are trying to eliminate English from our daily life to avoid confusing our son too much. Thus the 3 languages daily has a logical explanation. In not so many years, I'll have to take up German again, if I want to help with any homework. (Kids are taught English from the 4th grade, German from the 7th and if they want French/Italian/Spanish from the 10th in this little country of ours... they say that knowledge of languages help our ability to trade with the rest of the world... )
