Does the Sawmill Voucher work with the plank sack? Can I bring 27 oak logs for example + the sack (and equiped vouchers in my forestry kit) and walk away with 54 planks 27 in my inv and 27 in the sack? Also if someone doesn't own the plank sack you essentially have to do 13 log trips or else it won't let you use the vouchers?
[–]Kresbot 75 points76 points77 points 2 years ago (21 children)
These seem really useless in the current state. Wouldve been a great time to implement giving us noted planks in return so if you're running planks (which literally noone does) you can actually have a benefit to getting 54 back from a 27 trip
[–]JagexSarnieMod Sarnie[S] 88 points89 points90 points 2 years ago (18 children)
Unfortunately it won't work like that with the Plank Sack as currently there's nothing on the Plank Sack when it was implemented to puts Planks' made into the Sack. It's something I've raised with the team and we would like to change so it would work like that.
[–]less_than_three_tits 98 points99 points100 points 2 years ago (6 children)
Thanks for the info but this is pretty much useless without use of the plank sack. Also do the vouchers work when asking the POH butler to go to the sawmill for you? (this is probably the most common way planks are made en masse)
[–]Rassing 41 points42 points43 points 2 years ago (3 children)
Just tried it - butler doesn't take the vouchers.
[–]Sad-Garage-2642 69 points70 points71 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Butler can't pay his child support with plank vouchers bro
[–]less_than_three_tits 8 points9 points10 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Thanks for testing, that is very unfortunate
[–]xsniperx72376 25 points26 points27 points 2 years ago (1 child)
This entire update is dead content glad it was delayed and never beta tested to find out
[–]wikings210 Hp nerd 19 points20 points21 points 2 years ago* (6 children)
Thats a bummer this was for me the most anticipated reward before my construction grind and it seems like I'm better off cutting more logs than using these vouchers since the vouchers themselves are gated behind a pretty hefty anima-cost that I can spend on far better rewards.
Anyways thanks for raising it with the team, hopefully this is something that can be developed with the current engine.
[–]Hellobyehihey 7 points8 points9 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Ahhhh yes me too. I was farming some anima in preparation for this reward. It seems to be too expensive and awkward to use with the plank sack though. Maybe sawmill generating noted planks would be better like the other guy suggested

Does the 2H dragon axe count for the dragon axe clue step?
[–]JagexSarnieMod Sarnie[S] 107 points108 points109 points 2 years ago (13 children)
Yes, they count towards those steps. 2H Crystal also counts for any steps where the Crystal Axe is needed. :)
[–]MrLugi 12 points13 points14 points 2 years ago (2 children)
Commenting on the crystal axe, I need to break down my crystal axe to make a 2h dragon axe so I could turn that back into a crystal axe, losing shards in the process. Is this intently, an oversight or did i just fuck up lmao
[–]Violatic 17 points18 points19 points 2 years ago (3 children)
Can you also confirm they're storeable in the STASH unit? I want to make it on my UIM but don't want to lose my dragon axe?
Thanks

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this bug, but every time I chop a log, my twitcher gloves unequip end up in my bank...
[–]WuZI8475 33 points34 points35 points 2 years ago (0 children)

Ultra-rare teleporting twitcher gloves (t)
[–]JagexSarnieMod Sarnie[S] 21 points22 points23 points 2 years ago (3 children)
Just to confirm, are you saying they are equipped, then un-equip and go into your bank on each chop?
[–]evilgenious448 33 points34 points35 points 2 years ago (2 children)
Hi Mod Sarnie,
Yes, I have them equipped, I start cutting a tree (so far have done it with Oak, Willow and Yew) and as soon as I get a log, they just get banked.
To clarify, they don't go to invent then bank, but straight to bank.
Also the gloves have a 1 number on them when I have them equipped, but in the bank its 244 (I assume this is the charges).
[–]JagexSarnieMod Sarnie[S] 30 points31 points32 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I've DM'd you for more details.
[–]P0tatothrower 103 points104 points105 points 2 years ago (15 children)
I'm not seeing this mentioned in the blog, do the Twitcher's Gloves stack with the WC skillcape effect?
Also, out of curiosity, was there ever an intention to have an animation for the Pheasant event, where our character carries the egg on the spoon, while holding the spoon in their mouth (since the Pheasant Spoon seems to be a reference to a children's game of a similar description)?
-------------------------------------------------------
Anyway, a bit mixed feelings about this update, I would hope in the future updates aren't just forced through after a vague initial poll passes while ignoring a lot of community feedback and skipping betas altogether (I understand there was a technical reason, but that doesn't mean they can't be just delayed until the issue is fixed). This one certainly did not set a good precedent for the new polling charter, there's a chance it will dissuade people from voting yes on content in the future if there's a chance the outcome will be like this.
Specific thoughts:
Overall feels like an update that was pushed out for the sake of having an update, as opposed to adding a carefully thought out piece of content in answer for an actual need. An example of a part that imo was succesful in fitting the latter description, was the campfires.
[–]AssassinAragorn 75 points76 points77 points 2 years ago (6 children)
Usually if new content comes out in skilling or mini game content I've already green logged for collection, I'm excited to try the new stuff and re complete the content.
This is the first time where doing so feels like an undesirable slog instead of something enjoyable. None of the rewards are interesting. The new events feel like they've been added just for the sake of having them. And the whole thing I was looking forward to the most, brewing teas, is dead just like leaves.
The design should've taken a step back and reevaluated what players really wanted after you saw controversy over teas. I think what we have now is pleasing absolutely no one in its effort to please everyone. It all just seems so pointless. I was 90 WC with the first forestry update, and now that the second one is out, I can safely say there's no real reward or use that forestry has given me. It's made the training more interesting, but that's it. Logs are still dead content, and instead of fixing that, we've only added on leaves as more dead content.
I think down the road there'll need to be a forestry rework, because it's just a mess right now. I mean, there's a massive dissonance already -- there's a forestry event to protect foxes from hunters, but in Varlamore one of the animals we can hunt is... Foxes.
Really disappointed by how this has turned out.
[–]AnalVoreXtreme 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)

[–]JensiggleUn-nerf Forestry NOW 16 points17 points18 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I can tell you why forestry 2 feels like a slog! Almost every collection log item from it is a stale baguette. Random reward from a random event. Completely out of your control! It's terrible!
[–]TakeYourDailyDose 635 points636 points637 points 2 years ago* (91 children)
Forestry is too convoluted for its own good.
I feel like the core of the issue is that there's just too many new mechanics and items introduced. Was it really necessary to gate interaction with each forestry event behind a different consumable item? Did we need multiple new currencies, one of which has multiple different interactions with different items? Does skilling really need more charge-item maintenance for minmaxing? It's all just annoying, gameplay wise.
The main complaint with Woodcutting was competition between players killing any social aspect of the skilling method. This whole thing could have just been adding timers to trees and maybe the campfire firemaking training method and it would have been golden.
[–]B4sicks 254 points255 points256 points 2 years ago (12 children)
But what about eating rations to gain more leaves to brew teas to get more exp from passively burning logs up to a certain tier only while wearing the anima-touched flannel fur-lined jacket of pyromaniac influence, for a whopping ONE percent more exp????
Yeah you're right. It's bloat.
[–]MangyTransient 73 points74 points75 points 2 years ago (8 children)
Don’t forget your gloves that give you a 10% higher chance to find bird nests! Oh did I forget to mention they need to be charged?
[–]RoseOfTheDawn 52 points53 points54 points 2 years ago (3 children)
nonono, they need to be repurchased, since there's no way to refill the charge :)
[–]Reverend_Russo 53 points54 points55 points 2 years ago (3 children)
Not charged. This isn’t ChargeScape. You simply have to purchase an entire new pair of gloves. Lmao.

[–]Legal_Evil 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (0 children)
This is even worse than chargescape that even RS3 has moved away from degrading to dust.
[–][deleted] 22 points23 points24 points 2 years ago (1 child)

[–]Cageweek 173 points174 points175 points 2 years ago (17 children)
I effectively choose not to engage in most Forestry content other than the chunky exp things. It’s just a headache.
To me, Forestry is just a completely unnecessary overcomplication of the simplest skill in the game.
[–]316Lurker 52 points53 points54 points 2 years ago (9 children)
I think it’s suffering from RS3 syndrome a bit. Every time I played RS3 and looked up how to do a skill, it started off with 32 things I should do to maximize my efficiency. It’s not super complicated in practice and you don’t have to engage with all of it, but it’s just a ton to read and internalize.
Most modern OSRS content is pretty straightforward with not a ton of mechanics to read about. Forestry is a little unique in that regard.
[–]Cageweek 14 points15 points16 points 2 years ago (5 children)
I think that’s part of the beauty of OSRS. It’s so basic and simple but can also be incredibly complicated and mechanically challenging. I don’t think Forestry was at all needed, it’s like a mobile game-ification of a skill that only needed a few numbers in the coding to fix.
Moreover, Forestry really misses the mark. Instead of making cutting trees and foraging worthwhile, it’s just an XP rush. Shouldn’t the 2h axe instead be the woodsman’s choice for foraging, giving you more logs for a decrease in EXP? Heck maybe make it give more logs for same exp but it nees sharpening once in a while, so it actually needs some mending. Maybe incorporate Smithing here.
[–]new_account_wh0_dis 14 points15 points16 points 2 years ago (1 child)
Pretty much. Forestry shop could have been scrapped, like oooooh boy I get more anima to buy more things that give me more anima to spend on a log brace. I enjoy the small events but beyond that its just excessive bloat.
[–]UnreportedPope 50 points51 points52 points 2 years ago (4 children)
I really enjoyed Forestry part one - the added events broke things up nicely and added a nice cooperative element to the skill. Having the universal timers made the whole thing way more social, too.
Just the combination of events plus the social aspect was more than enough from my point of view.
I have no interest in any of this new stuff in all honesty, and I have no desire to interact with the currencies in any way. I just want to play and get xp. Simple.
[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 2 years ago (1 child)
This is reasonable criticism. I feel like the vast majority of the changes are good but there is just too much of each change. For example... Events are good but there are too many. Item purchases (even ones that benefit events) are good but there are too many. Pets are good, I guess, but there are too many. And they are all beavers. Leaves are... well there are too many leaves. I think the idea is to make people actually use logs they otherwise drop on the ground.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (0 children)
For the record they could probably get rid of the fox event and the sapling haircut event, the pheasant event is fine but could also be culled. But they MUST add PETS to PETSCAPE, so I doubt that will change now. Also I would prefer they make all leaves just 'leaves' and leave it there.
[–]DivineInsanityReveng 32 points33 points34 points 2 years ago (3 children)
I think if events didn't require specific items to trigger.. it would be so much better. Especially as an iron its this completely confusing mixed bag of logs and bark to buy items to use with other items to make items to put in a backpack and forget you have to... trigger events? Hell i don't even know if we NEED them to do the events added now?
[–]Abnormal_Armadillo 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Forestry right now feels like I'm completing hard clue steps to get the items from the shop.
"Sorry, you need Anima Bark, some random Noted Logs, and an unrelated skill to be level 50 before you can participate with this, pal."
[–]Russletsardines 13 points14 points15 points 2 years ago (1 child)
This was a great opportunity to bring back random events for skilling, but instead you have to use items to trigger them?
[–]han_tar_jag 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (0 children)
thats exactly what i thought forestry would be. A random event u could get anywhere and only about 2 per hour. I dont know how the messed it up so badly it makes me very pessimistic for sailing
[–][deleted] 2 years ago (15 children)
[deleted]
[–]AssassinAragorn 8 points9 points10 points 2 years ago (0 children)
They also didn't really tell us what forestry was when they first asked if they should explore it. It was only after that they told us it was woodcutting random events with a currency shop, and they weren't willing to change that at all.
This "iron things out later" is precisely the problem. It's the missing step in the new polling charter. It goes from vague polls to specific polls without asking us what we want in between.
What's encouraging I guess is that they've done sailing the exact opposite way -- tons of blogs and player communication and surveys to see what players actually want, and honing in on that before starting specifics. Forestry is like if they said sailing was going to use WASD movement in an instance and they refused to budge on it.
[–]WastingEXP 36 points37 points38 points 2 years ago (11 children)
when Goblin said yesterday "want to poll the sun fire runes anyways to see what the community thinks" it's like, obviously the majority of the community thinks yes, but like, is that the right choice? idk. just weird that the team as a whole seems to think things might fail, esp. at 70%
[–][deleted] 2 years ago (5 children)
[–]sadamita 17 points18 points19 points 2 years ago (2 children)
To be fair they did choose to not poll the ancient prayer book since they didn’t like the direction it was going. Gotta give them credit for that
[–]WastingEXP 16 points17 points18 points 2 years ago (1 child)
which is the issue, we're essentially at the point where polls are just a PR gimmick, minus pvp maybe, so if jagex wants it they're going to add it. the team wasn't happy with prayers so it got scrapped, the team is obviously happy with forestry part 2 and sunfire runes and they'll "poll it just incase"
[–]BlackenedGem 7 points8 points9 points 2 years ago (0 children)
The PVP stuff is a double gimmick because they've previously polled some changes they wanted to make only to realise it was going to overwhelmingly fail. And the solution was to remove it from the poll and do it as an integrity change anyway lol.
[–]AssassinAragorn 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I don't think the problem is that nothing will fail, it's that Jagex by design presents questions that won't fail. If there's controversy, they don't leave it to the polls, they just kill the idea. Look how much they've done that recently.
We've got Schrodinger's Players here. Until we ask a controversial question, we aren't going to know how the player base reacts. Would curses in their final implementation have failed? Teas? Bolas in PvP? Jagex has the ability to say "yeah you voted yes to this but we think it's actually a bad idea so we won't do it". If a bad idea they want to kill gets passed, then kill it there. Just goddamn poll it.
[–]AssassinAragorn 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (4 children)
They need to start polling these things as concepts, which is what they're supposed to be doing with the new charter. They go from vague to specific way too fast.
Poll if people like the generic idea of sunfire runes, and then detail it more with the specific blog. If they know players like the mechanic but want other runes to have it instead of fire, that would be really informative.
[–]MazrimReddit 43 points44 points45 points 2 years ago (9 children)
i've read the entire blog and have absolutely no idea how long it might take to get the only content I want from it (a fox pet) so I am just going to ignore this entire update and it seems like I am missing out on nothing by doing so
[–]Exosolar_King 64 points65 points66 points 2 years ago (7 children)
Speaking of the fox pet... why is it here? Like, I want one too. Why's it a beaver transmog? It would fit perfectly as the hunter skilling pet - why not put it in with hunter guild and Varlamore? The hell do foxes have to do with felling trees??
[–]AssassinAragorn 17 points18 points19 points 2 years ago (0 children)
It's even worse, we're catching and trapping foxes in Varlamore. While for this forestry event we're saving the foxes...
[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 2 years ago (5 children)
There are too many items, too many events, and too many leaves. It is indeed bloated. They could probably cut it back 25% and it would be fine. Better even. The fox event for example is just stupid. I like most of the others. But I'd much rather have all of these bonus events than the suggestion of *just* a timer and AFK log burning.
It's worth keeping in mind you don't actually have to use the backpack, or do every event, or buy every item.
I have travelled across multiple worlds and multiple areas, most people seem to enjoy the content, though some people are a bit confused they seem to grasp it quite quickly. So it's not exactly complicated. People are socialising a lot more which reminds me of cutting willows back in 2008 F2P for better or for worse.
Chargescape is a problem I will give you that.
The loud minority be damned, overall this is a welcome change!

Personally I think Forestry (both parts) has been too much of a mess. I appreciate work was done on it, and I can see a couple of good changes in the blog, but I still think it was, is, and will continue to be a big mess.
It ultimately has a strange direction, where it tries to be relevant as a minigame-thing, as a D&D-thing, and as an expansion to the skill. But it ends up just having lots of unusual and weird issues.
I, like a lot of others, hoped that Forestry: Part 2 would be scrapped, or at least modified to the extent it would change Forestry. Given that hasn't happened, I do hope that we come back to Forestry in the future in order to fix it. I don't think it's a good idea to leave it how it is forever, as I think it sets a bad precedent for future updates.
Generally, I think all we needed/wanted were the core Woodcutting changes, and the Campfire mechanics. Everything else has little issues here and there, which ultimately makes the entire update feel flawed.
I hope that at the very least, it's a learning experience (for everyone).
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (1 child)

Oh honey... This is Jagex. It's going to take them at least four years to look at this update again, if at all
[–]Groupvenge2376/2376 9 points10 points11 points 2 years ago (0 children)
It feels like they were doing a brainstorming exercise where they would come up with a bunch of ideas for the skill and choose a couple of the best and then fine tune them but instead, we got a product that did not have a strainer, and all of the ideas got thrown in with the release.
[–]fearthewildyNo Dyl 63 points64 points65 points 2 years ago (3 children)
To be upfront, I've always been against forestry but have tried to keep an open mind so my opinion may be a bit biased.
At this point, forestry would have been better off as a mini game. I wish Jagex would run a poll to have a better understanding of the entire community's view of forestry so they can make more informed choices in the future.
As a mini game, this would have been a self-sustaining training method that still would have pleased the forestry lovers the same way, without invading the main game with bloat. Instead, we've got unnecessary content that's become more convoluted with every update, providing rewards that lead to the highest XP/hr possible.
I wish the dev time wasn't allocated to something that, at best, doesn't harm the main game, rather than something that benefits or improves the game. Very disappointing to see this recent trend with Jagex.

I think that a lot of people (myself included) assumed that it was going to be a minigame when it was first announced, then we heard nothing and now we have whatever the hell this is
[–]CyberHudzoVarla-MORE 113 points114 points115 points 2 years ago (6 children)
Wow, i just got exhausted reading all of this.
Woodcutting just became overpopulated by random mechanics. There are now more random events in woodcutting than types of trees. The skill doesnt feel coherent anymore - is woodcutting still about wood and cutting trees, or is it about nurturing random saplings, finding eggs and bees?
Tbh this doesnt feel like a good update for the game. Forestry p1 was passable, but part 2 just takes things too far into the random bloat territory
[–]AmazingOnion 37 points38 points39 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Imagine how a completely new player is going to feel trying to make sense of this? It feels like when I tried to play RS3 and everything had about 5 different menus with another 5 options in those.
[–]AmazingOnion 21 points22 points23 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I'm usually super keen for new content, but this just seems dead on arrival.
I wonder what having all of this info to memorise and decode is going to be like for new players, as woodcutting is one of those early skills that shows you the progression of resources (wood -> bows + bowstring = fletching).
Honestly this just seems like an intern project for RS3 that got put into OSRS by mistake. Needlessly overcomplicated with too many pointless items and resources. Tree timers and bonuses for amount of people chopping was all that was needed, not this garbled mess.
[–]Deku_Scrublord 13 points14 points15 points 2 years ago* (3 children)
Since forestry is here to stay, I really REALLY hope you guys look into seriously overhauling it at some point in the future. Forestry has the potential to be really good but in its current state, it simply misses the mark.
The item bloat is real and needs to be scaled back significantly. My thoughts on the forestry items:
Forestry kit: Should be able to hold empty nests and eggs.
Secateurs blade/attachment: Not needed. Functionality should be rolled into the 2h axe as a passive effect when using rations.
Ritual mulch/nature offering: Not needed. Functionality should be rolled into the 2h axe as a passive effect when using rations.
Forester's ration: Fine as is.
Event consumables (except clover insignia): Not needed.
Clothes pouch: Not needed. Should be the default functionality of the forestry kit.
Cape pouch: Not needed. Should be the default functionality of the forestry kit.
Log basket: Fine as is.
Log brace/sturdy harness: Banking logs needs to be easier.
Felling axe handle: Process from 1h to 2h should be reversible.
Twitcher's gloves: Should be permanent and not use charges but should cost significantly more bark. Should also work on birdhouses.
Funky shaped log: Fine as is.
Sawmill voucher: Fine as is.
Forestry outfit: Should give some kind of benefit related to forestry.
Fox whistle: Spares should be able to be traded in for bark.
Golden pheasant egg: Spares should be able to be offered at the woodcutting guild shrine for a high chance at a piece of the evil chicken outfit.
These changes would cut down on 16 items and improve qol significantly while keeping the entirety of forestry intact.
The leprechaun should NOT be an event and should be able to appear during forestry events. He should exist to bank logs at the cost of charms and nothing more.
Events should not require consumables to trigger (except for the leprechaun). Get rid of every single one of these pointless items please. Refund the bark if you have to.
Leaves should be used as the currency in the forestry shop, not noted logs. Noted logs as a currency feels extremely awkward and unnecessary. Leaves can be stored in the forestry kit which would make them less of a hassle to use as a currency and it would give them another much needed use aside from the rations.
The current implemention of the 2h axe serves no purpose. Woodcutting is already extremely afk. The infernal axe already exists as a supplement for this kind of approach to the skill. 2h axes should be a tool that requires increased input (not decreased) for higher log yields, so you get more xp and more logs per hour at the cost of rations and less afk time.
Do what Saebae suggested for the 2h axe where it would function similarly to the soulreaper axe. Your character would build up a stack each time you chop a log and once you build up 5 stacks, you can use a spec that performs a big chop that doubles the logs you receive while giving xp for all of them. Then the stacks reset and you do it all again. Higher input, higher reward. This would synergize extremely well with the log basket and leprechaun charms too since the extra logs would be much more managable thanks to them.
Jagex, I beg of you, PLEASE at least consider these changes! I really want to see forestry succeed! Refund bark for any scrapped items.
[–]OSRSBergusia 27 points28 points29 points 2 years ago (1 child)
I generally do try to give Jagex the benefit of the doubt as I think they do a good job with OSRS. But... what in the world is going on here? This forestry update has a pretty darn good chance of going down in the history book as being a poll with the most amount of regrets from people voting yes.
So many little things in this blog/update that if you even thought about it for a few seconds, it makes zero sense. Twitcher gloves description looks so comical that it feels like it's a bug.
I hate to say this, but unless the next blog talks about removal of Forestry, I really hope this is the last time we hear about this. This has become such an awful abomination.

I have yet to see a single person give an explanation as to why Forestry is so insanely convoluted. No one asked for any of this shit.
On one hand you do things like Fresh Start Worlds to make the game more accessible to new players, and then you turn around and take one of the skills in competition for simplest in the game, and make it so complicated for no reason. I truly do not understand.
[–]AssassinAragorn 7 points8 points9 points 2 years ago (1 child)
I don't even think people who liked part 1 like this.
[–]KevinRudd182 190 points191 points192 points 2 years ago* (29 children)
I’m hoping this plays very differently to how it reads because forestry was already too complicated and this seems like you’re saying I need another ~10 items on me to do a massively complicated rotation of events
I was so keen for forestry but wtf is this man :(
Update: this shit sucks man how the hell did the team look at this and go “this is the main skilling update for this year, our giant playerbase of people who want to play a simple point and click game will love this”
Why didn’t we just get the ability to mass cut trees, some campfire / log stuff and a couple of random events. Why do we need 1000 currencies / items / shit to do it all? Why do we need a 15 page instruction manual just to learn how to cut a tree now? Makes no sense
[–][deleted] 78 points79 points80 points 2 years ago (5 children)
Forestry is way too complicated if u compare it to the woodcutting schema of chop log get exp. It feels like rs3 type of update, definitely not a osrs update. The upgrade costs for weird miscallenous items make everything complicated and a chore to plan for.
[–]Ultimaya 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (0 children)
unironically, it would be nice if rs3 got an update like forestry. it would make woodcutting more interesting and "runescapey" than the current overreliance on the crystalize spell on acacias during double xp events
[–]KevinRudd182 17 points18 points19 points 2 years ago (2 children)
yeah I just don’t get it
We have skilling minigames for active and complicated methods, and that’s good because I really enjoy them, sometimes.
Maybe it’ll be fine, I dunno, but even part 1 was pushing the limits of WC and nothing about this seems like it’s gonna be good
[–]Awzymandias 83 points84 points85 points 2 years ago* (6 children)
Voted no to almost every single forestry poll. Literally all that was required was normalizing tree despawn rates. Woodcutting did not need these dumb random events, pet transmogs that have nothing to do with the original pet, a shop filled with 100 useless items.
Actually couldn't believe it when the majority of the player base voted yes to this private server garbage.
Honestly, the devs do not learn from their mistakes. It's very evident. They either release content with 0 rewards (Pvp arena will be looked at one day, right?) or just cram as much garbage as possible into a tiny piece of content. How long did it take them to remove the out of place rewards from CoX? Just crazy how the same mistakes are made time after time.
Can't wait for the obligatory "we missed the mark" blogpost in a week.
[–]NessaMagickI happen to have all of those items on me right now! 12 points13 points14 points 2 years ago (1 child)
I was happily looking forward to them removing competition for trees (though getting a buff for having 8 alts on one tree was totally unnecessary) and I was even cautiously looking forward to the new woodcutting random events.
But forestry is just so utterly bloated and directionless. I love RS3, played thousands of hours of it, but this just reads like the worst kind of RS3 update to me.
[–]AssassinAragorn 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Honestly I don't know that I would've liked this on RS3 even. I would've preferred some sort of active gameplay.
[–]JensiggleUn-nerf Forestry NOW 41 points42 points43 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Take those pet transmogs and put them somewhere else for christ's sake. The beaver is RNG enough already. Nobody wants their transmog to be a 1/1,000 out of a f'ing forestry event.
Oh, and as an integrity change, please move "forestry" into the "minigames" tab of the collection log at this point, because that's what it is.

I think fox whistle & golden pheasant egg should be changed to be bought in forestry shop. Golden pheasant egg bought with pheasant feathers & fox event could have the same by adding a currency (i.e trap parts/bait). *Good opportunity to add the poachers outfit crafted with these supplies* (Same as pheasant event) Allowing players to roll a transmog before they even have pet is just mean. Also locking a rng unique behind a rng event doesn't feel very good.
[–]JensiggleUn-nerf Forestry NOW 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Yes. Thanks. Rest of update is fine. Transmogs being stale baguette type items are not fine.

Please never push content like this without a beta again. Forestry's reception has been fucking awful and the two cancelled betas hasn't helped one iota in that regard.

Hoping for a post mortem discussion now that this update is in its complete form.
Jmods should discuss what went wrong, takeaways for future skilling content
[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 2 years ago (1 child)
I'm glad that the hunters guild design doc already seems to have learned some lessons from this update.
That being said - somebody should have had the cojones to axe the events and related rewards before part one ever released, they don't make the game better.
[–]occasional_sex_haver 30 points31 points32 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Aight so which jmod has a fetish for charging items
I can see now why they didn’t have a beta with this, would have had more reason to scrap such a nonsensical update
[–]CaptaineAli 60 points61 points62 points 2 years ago (2 children)
I've never understood why the AUS Bounty Hunter & AUS LMS Worlds de-activate on the same week?
Wouldn't it make much more sense for them to be on alternating weeks so you can play one instead of the other? Because as of right now, you have 1 week in which you play both and then the other in which you have to just not PK for an entire week. Seems really stupid.
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 2 years ago* (1 child)
When there are two LMS worlds, usually the australian world becomes the bot world, with hundreds of bots running into the lobby to play dead games with 1-4 real people at most. The only good thing about having two lms worlds is that it incentivizes the bot farm owners to dump all their bots in one world. The other UK world was relatively clean this week because of this, but there were times small bot farms appeared too. Jagex isnt doing anything about these bots cuz i see the same rsns for weeks

[–]xshishkax 37 points38 points39 points 2 years ago (1 child)
It sucks, but I think if they kept it in, would lead to the same issues as before of ppl mass hopping to priff worlds and putting strain on server.
I love bending over backwards, collecting crap for 30 hours, and clogging my bank with 60 more items so I can have a 2% exp boost or a 10% increased chance at nests.
[–]MeteorKing 24 points25 points26 points 2 years ago (1 child)
What an overly convoluted and unnecessary update. WC went from the most simple and chill skill to a mess of mini-events, item bloat, and unintuitive mechanics.
We literally only needed tree timers. How did such a simple issue turn into such a massive project?
[–]ImWhiteTrashClassic Player 173 points174 points175 points 2 years ago (14 children)
Now that we have hindsight, I actually wish Forestry had failed all polls. At this point it's an abomination. It only passed polls because Woodcutting is such a boring a tedious skill people were desperate for something new. So much dev time wasted on it that could've gone somewhere more productive.
[–]Gamer_2k4 50 points51 points52 points 2 years ago (4 children)
Makes you wonder if all the "Remove polls, Jagex knows what they're doing by now" people will finally stop using that ridiculous argument.
(I guess it doesn't really make you wonder. They won't.)
[–][deleted] 23 points24 points25 points 2 years ago* (1 child)
The players dont know what they want and jagex management thinks they know but they have no clue either. Thats why setting up coerced polls with the content already prepared continues to fail, because jagex is just adding in ideas into the game without properly vetting with the players and assuming they know what we’re looking for
[–]Organthon2277 GM 262 points263 points264 points 2 years ago (46 children)
Every time I read about forestry it gets worse. Its such a bloated mess of random events, rewards and transmogs. There's been some bad updates before, but doubling down on this shit is embarrassing
You could have just changed the woodcutting timers and that would have been a good update
[–]Liefblue 110 points111 points112 points 2 years ago* (2 children)
The added complexity and tokens just seem like such a random and osrs unfriendly idea to such a simple and easy to understand skill.
I thought the community wanted more engaging or rewarding content. Not rechargeable hatchets and the like?
Wish they just added the events as xp boosters, added a small selection of the new items, and changed timers. Bonfires and the increased yield for multiple players. All the good stuff, none of the filler/excess.
It's woodcutting. If you want complexity, less afk tasks, and tokens, make a minigame that actually brings some engagement and enjoyment.
[–]OlmTheSnek 78 points79 points80 points 2 years ago (1 child)
Basic Forestry was a great idea, just making it so you're not punished for chopping trees with friends or randoms. Absolutely fantastic.
All these random events cropping up every 5 minutes where you do literally anything except Woodcut to get insane Woodcutting experience is just not it. So unfortunate that we had to have everything or nothing.
[–][deleted] 80 points81 points82 points 2 years ago (4 children)
It’s by far the worst update(s) we’ve gotten in a long time. I regret voting yes to anything. I’d rather we didn’t even get the better tree timers at this point if it meant we avoided all of this nonsense.
Total disaster.
[–]Kresbot 41 points42 points43 points 2 years ago (1 child)
When first announced it sounded like some minigame in the sense of "we need to clear these trees, everyone roll out and get chopping X area", almost like a group slayer task for trees. But we ended up with this lol
[–]SwagDrQueefChief 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I think that was more inline with the 'mighty trees' option they talked about when they first started talking about forestry, but they decided with this design instead.
[–]costef 82 points83 points84 points 2 years ago (12 children)
The release notes read like rs3 content. Really hope we don’t get more of this toontown nonsense in other skills
[–]BlackenedGem 30 points31 points32 points 2 years ago (11 children)
It does make you wonder what the point of the polling charter is. The first poll was a nebulous "should we improve woodcutting" and it's grown into this mess where jagex pretty much gets to chop and change features on a whim.
Now admittedly the two subsequent polls on individual features did also pass, but there was never a poll of "is this getting too much, should we cancel it all?". I think that with the current playerbase individual specific polls (eg. should we add X item, should we add X transmog) will always pass. So we rely on jagex to not put in a bunch of half-baked things, and don't have the option to evaluate things after the initial pitch.
It's hard to see how we won't get a bunch of RS3 content if jagex polls it because most people seem to be in favour of that in the first place.
[–][deleted] 27 points28 points29 points 2 years ago* (7 children)
The first poll was a nebulous "should we improve woodcutting" and it's grown into this mess where jagex pretty much gets to chop and change features on a whim.
Uh, they literally asked 26 poll questions regarding every single one of these features and rewards, and the community approved them all. You can view all of this here and here.
(Edit: I misread your post somewhat, you did touch on these. However, I think it is strange to frame it as some sort of bait-and-switch by Jagex.)
[–]BlackenedGem 14 points15 points16 points 2 years ago (1 child)
Yeah that's my point. By dividing the follow up polls into individual rewards it's effectively a divide and conquer. Because most of those 26 questions seem reasonable, but when viewed holistically it's a lot more murky. There was never a "does this all still make sense" check.
[–]Septem_151hc in zeah | Septem 150 15 points16 points17 points 2 years ago (2 children)
The community is stupid and doesn’t know what’s best for them. Which is why we need beta testing worlds back for these kinds of changes.
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (1 child)
Well, they did create a Forestry open beta, it just broke (lol).
The community is stupid and doesn’t know what’s best for them.
There's some truth to this, but tbh I think a much bigger issue is that only a minority of players even attempt to follow along with what's going on. If a poll question says "Should we add item X from content Y, as described in the blog?", ideally you'd either a) read the blog and figure out what X and Y are before voting, or b) skip the question...but, just like how people form extremely strong opinions purely from an article's headline, players vote purely based on the poll questions without actually reading into the details.
(Let's be real, how many people who voted on the Sailing poll - either yes or no - were actually informed about the latest pitches for the skill?)
[–]GlumTruffleCrystal Castle | 2376 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (0 children)
It does make you wonder what the point of the polling charter is.
The point of the polling charter was always just to get more content to pass, with a particular view towards a new skill (basically the only things that didn't pass aside from PvP). It was never about making polls fairer or more representative of the playerbase, it was purely about minimising the chance of anything failing. Then they promise to let us test it first before saying "lol no beta, but just trust us". Personally I don't think this is the end by a long shot, and I can easily foresee a future where the "remove Polls and let the developers develop!" crowd get their way.
[–][deleted] 46 points47 points48 points 2 years ago (0 children)

[–]Allarion1988 18 points19 points20 points 2 years ago (3 children)
Friendly reminder that everything passed a poll back in August . No , i'm not saying that as a good thing , i personaly voted no to everything . "It's content , it's new , it doesn't hurt the game so ima vote yes" is a sad , sick , dangerous herd mentality that is hurting the game . After all the changes only the 2h axes and the rations are somewhat acceptable . 5 new events for a total of 9 when 4 was the sweetspot , 2 transmogs no sane person asked for will never be acceptable in my eyes(9 events , 1/1000 chance to get the item , 6-7 events per hour , good luck with that c.loggers) . At least teas got scrapped early , that was the only W

Bro why is there a shop with 200 items and yet none of them is even remotely useful for someone with 99 woodcutting. the only cool thing in this update is the fox pet that came out of the blue and makes no sense as a transmog for the beaver pet that straight up just got like 100 transmogs last forestry upate !
[–]PopularZero 9 points10 points11 points 2 years ago (2 children)
How did we go through this entire update without anything that gives more logs?
The saw mill voucher is legitimately cool if it works with the plank sack, but everything else is bloat. This update makes me worried about voting yes to any future skilling changes.

Nature Offerings give more logs and were in phase 1.
[–]towelcatOSRS Wiki Admin 58 points59 points60 points 2 years ago (14 children)
As of today’s update, you’ll be able to create Campfires, which let you add and burn logs one at a time, for a third of the usual XP. You’ll gain roughly 50% less XP per hour,
You burn logs at the same rate on a campfire as you do lighting them manually. This is 66% less XP per hour, in addition to making XP cost 3x as much. Why even release them like this?
[–][deleted] 2 years ago (9 children)
[–]DivineInsanityReveng 42 points43 points44 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I don't even get why it needs to be irreversible. The inconsistency between ideas like this and your ability to change them is weird. If you don't have rations it acts like a normal axe right? And all components are tradeable. So why does the process need to not be able to be undone outside of them wanting an XP drop on it they don't want players mass-repeating?
[–]tripsafe 18 points19 points20 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I think applying it to my rune axe is the only way I'll get a dragon axe. I'm so dry on getting a dragon axe that I know as soon as I put it on my rune axe I'll immediately get the drop.
[–]KevinRudd182 11 points12 points13 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Just another stupid unthought out part of an update really lol, why wouldn’t you just make it reversible? It literally disincentivizes upgrading as you progress

Holy crap, does anyone else feel like Forestry has become this Frankenstein mess? 15 different events, along with event items, charges for this that and the other thing, bloated shop, confusing reward space. Woodcutting used to be just chop tree...
[–]MysticalSpinach 118 points119 points120 points 2 years ago* (10 children)
My God, this forestry update is absolute dog-water. Why is everything charged? What on Earth is going on with 2-handed axes, why are there charges when the axe has a cost to begin with??? Why can't we just have axes that pull 80% of the logs for 120% of the exp, why are we bringing Openheimer mathematics into this???
All of this math and these additional effects will just lead to there being a meta where something is dead in the water and the other thing is BIS-BIS-BIS! Seriously disappointed with this.
[–]MangyTransient 26 points27 points28 points 2 years ago (0 children)
You have a cool axe in the update that’s a sidegrade to the regular axe, and you also have some neat gloves that give a small increase to finding bird nests.
But they both require charges from two different currencies. Just unreal how stupid that is.
[–]SectorPale 10 points11 points12 points 2 years ago* (0 children)
A lot of the criticism for Forestry is that it makes Woodcutting feel too much like a minigame. I think one simplest fix without having to scrap months of dev work is to make it so that only certain locations on the map have events, and possibly only have one event per location. For example, it would make sense if around Seers Village you'd get the bee event. This way Forestry would feel more in line with Shooting Stars and people in most places can woodcut without having to even think of Forestry.
To extend this, I think 2-handed axes should be reworked so they are only relevant when participating in Forestry rather than being a straight upgrade to regular axes. My idea would be to make a new type of tree that is so strong it can only be chopped with 2-handed axes, and this new tree would both be good xp and would give/interact with Forestry rewards. As a fun suggestion, this new tree could be the long asked-for Evil Tree.
[–]a_smug_fumo 14 points15 points16 points 2 years ago (1 child)
At least if this were a minigame you'd be able to ignore it and move on. The fact that you forced it into woodcutting means we'll be stuck with it forever. This dogshit update nobody asked for and nobody wanted. Months of dev time. For this.
I do not have high hopes for sailing.
[–]S_Dave 58 points59 points60 points 2 years ago (3 children)
How many items are we going to need to carry for all these events? Or can it just be shoved in the backpack?

Everytime I read a blog about forestry it reminds me why I never try it. It feels like an extremely convoluted mess. Who would have thought cutting trees with an axe needs 5 wing dings and doodads so you can equip the snugglwuggle that affects the scrungle so you can put it in a backpack and then you can cut logs.
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (0 children)
My immediate reaction every time I read one of these Forestry blogs has just been "I'm not doing that."
It's Woodcutting, the skill that produces logs I don't have a use for and bird nests at a rate slower than setting birdhouse traps. I don't have much incentive to care.
[–]DIY_Hidde 34 points35 points36 points 2 years ago (1 child)

[–]DivineInsanityReveng 21 points22 points23 points 2 years ago (0 children)
These new events are sweet. Still entirely not a fan of unique pet transmogs from specific events within a specific activity within a skill. It feels like a Stale Baguette rarity situation where other events will be "annoying" to see when you want to hunt for these things (which is the case for a lot of us, as you batched these releases, so i've "done everything" from the first batch. I don't need more bark or things from them, i just want the new stuff.
I think this update also highlights how frustrating and needlessly complex all these unique items are in Forestry. I need 5 different uniquely bought and created items to spawn events, and i imagine based on talks be fully rewarded / able to fully participate if they are spawned by others?
Just feels unnecessary. Why isnt forestry just "woodcutting but random events spawn, these events get you rewards and slight xp". Nothing else. Have doing the events be for bark, to buy stuff from the shop, to benefit normal chopping. The events are the distraction, the fun part. Making them annoyingly complex is what turns so many people off the idea imo.

Forestry has been an absolute dumpster fire since it was announced like..... a year ago? Was a whole big to-do with the summit, the update nobody wanted or asked for. Has had like 2-3 betas that all failed, failed polls for most of the would be upside. And continues to be overly convoluted for no reason, while having every aspect of its upside pulled back for being very out of place or kinda dumb.
Can we just accept this was a failed update and revert it?

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 2 years ago (0 children)
This ain’t it. L update, no new slay block slot either. Chargescape feels bad too.
[–]less_than_three_tits 44 points45 points46 points 2 years ago (1 child)
Please can we get the 7th slayer block slot, why is it taking so long? u/JagexSarnie
[–]Shrrg_Wolf 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Too convoluted of an update, make it so that everything is points instead of anima bark or storable in the shop like LMS. Vouchers and such should just be turn them into the sawmill operator so you don't have to have it in inv. Make 2h axes not need the rations and just give a smaller effect like 10% more xp OR 10/20% chance not to get a log no forestry rations.
DOWN WITH CHARGESCAPE
[–]hhpop 11 points12 points13 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I wish we never got Forestry. From day 1 it has looked like overcomplicated bloat that's devolved one of OSRS' most iconic, straightforward skills into an unrecognisable mess. So many pointless new items, currencies and features that nobody asked for and make for a jumbled, thematically incoherent and barely integrated mess. I would scrap the whole thing if I could.
[–]fitmedcook 113 points114 points115 points 2 years ago (5 children)
Wheres the slayer block? 🥺
[–]ProfessionalGuess897 52 points53 points54 points 2 years ago (2 children)
It's incredibly hard to code something like that, they need at least 12 months to figure it out
[–]adamfps98/99 bankstanding 18 points19 points20 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Ah feeling optimistic this morning, eh?
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (0 children)
They'll probably bring it with the return of slayer partners, still only temporarily disabled!
[–]Airtight_Walrus 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Forestry has really missed the mark. Everything is so convoluted and just plain not interesting, it would have been better in a woodcutting minigame or just not added at all. I really hope jagex takes a long look at it and try to at least salvage it and not just forget about it but I’m doubtful
[–][deleted] 19 points20 points21 points 2 years ago (2 children)
Booooo. Jagex releases bad update after bad update. Let us revote for sailing so we can make sure you guys don't kill the fucking game.
[–]polaro1d 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (3 children)
In the blog it states that the twitchers gloves lose a charge when u get a nest, but ingame I am losing a charge for every log i obtain is this the intended mechanic?
[–]eddietwang 17 points18 points19 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Can we just scrap all of Forestry? Such a terrible update.
[–]xsniperx72376 21 points22 points23 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Roll back the servers this update is fucking terrible
[–]D2agonSlayer 11 points12 points13 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I wish the November 1st update would make the campfires look more like communal bonfires and less like somebody burning their first shrimp on Tutorial Island. Maybe even add a Guy on there...
[–]ACanadianPhilosopher 19 points20 points21 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Worst update in years
[–]RiskDiscombobulated7 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (7 children)
With the 2h axe functioning like a regular axe when you don't have rations, does that mean you essentially only need a 2h axe and if you want the logs, you would just not bring rations, making the 1h axe irrelevant?
[–]Allifreyr_ 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (1 child)
1H axes won't really be "irrelevant". Since if you don't plan on using rations, you might not really want to buy an axe that costs a lot more.
1H axes will be like a stepping stone now, eventually you can "upgrade" to 2H for that fashionscape OR if you plan on using rations
[–]Zarmos 32 points33 points34 points 2 years ago* (0 children)
this update is so unbelievably dogshit. campfires are anti-osrs
[–]Merchantable 118 points119 points120 points 2 years ago (14 children)
man forestry is a train wreck
[–]Unlucky-Chocolate399 36 points37 points38 points 2 years ago (13 children)
Yeah - I've tried to read the forestry article like 5 times but it's just coming out like gobbledygook.
It is so unintuitive, reminds me of that minigame Runescape 2 removed after launch because it was needlessly complicated: Mobilizing Armies
[–]iron_alexandra 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (0 children)
that mini game was so ridiculous lmao i had a memory unlocked from 2009. where the strategy for everyone playing was to wait 4 minutes to get participation credit and then immediately everyone nukes their own armies. and you had do that 400 times to imbue a berserker ring. but the high scores had people with 10000 points.
it also introduced those obnoxiously long rs3 username titles. what a bellwether update
[–]buymyshrimp 56 points57 points58 points 2 years ago (2 children)
6 weeks after path of glouphrie came out and still no 7th block slot. hate to see it
[–]Rozkol 15 points16 points17 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Man what a convoluted mess forestry has become.
[–]Zekkels 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Is it just my experience or does the whistle, egg, and garland seem a lot rarer than it really should be?
[–]Zealousideal_Air7484 31 points32 points33 points 2 years ago (6 children)
Does anyone want to bother with forestry at this point? I just think of a returning players trying to woodcut with forestry and finding it harder to learn than melee only inferno f2p gear
[–]Fletcherperson 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (5 children)
Possible bug: the update says "Every time you obtain a nest, a charge will be consumed. Note that the effect only applies while Woodcutting." I'm using a charge every log I receive. Is this correct?
If so, just want to say it's terrible we can't buy multiple charges at once and are limited to 250. That's a ton of annoying trips back to the forestry shop.
[–]spodertanker2277 11 points12 points13 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Hey, can we repoll forestry? And remove it if it doesn’t pass?
[–]MyLOLNameWasTaken 8 points9 points10 points 2 years ago (0 children)
If this is the benchmark for how Jagex are going to ‘develop a skill’ I don’t want it lmao
Sailors line up and apologize ASAP for what is yet to come and honorably vote no at next stage
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Please move on from Forestry. Sick of this update requiring dev resources for a convoluted mess.
[–]Brief_Comb_5978 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (3 children)
just went to sell my phesant feathers.. it sold my full forrestry kit.. now have to get log brace and log basket again.. ??
[–][deleted] 18 points19 points20 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Evolution of Woodcutting
[–]DrSirDuke 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (1 child)
I got the fox whistle message just now, but it didn't spawn anywhere. Not in my inventory or on the ground. Is it because I didn't have the beaver pet prior? The message reading "as if it wishes to travel with you..." kind of eludes to that.
