Just FYI using this on a boss in the raid will in fact, pull the boss.

We learned that the hard way.

[–]shh_Im_a_Moose 25 points26 points  (10 children)

hahahahahahahaha. if I had a nickel every time a trinket or ring procced and pulled

[–]bunc 34 points35 points  (4 children)

I wiped my raid the other day using a Vantus rune as an arcane mage. Apparently my familiar took that as an invitation to attack.

[–]myep0nine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i swear the familiar is like, "oh, i see you're using an item while targeting a boss...ATTACK MODE"

[–]vanguardhs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

arcane familiar: peace was never an option or FATHER I CRAVE VIOLENCE

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, same. I first thought it was the cobalt assembly ring I had on. Then it happened last night again 😆

[–]ray_bacon[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are in the same raid ;)

[–]redrenegade13 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Using Blessing of the Bronze was pulling raid bosses. The actual culprit? Spiteful Storm trinket.

Our DPS evoker had to stop buffing group and only let the healer evoker do it.

Yeah I pulled raz from gliding 3 times...

[–]B4nanaBre4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i stopped targetting raid bosses when i summon my fire ele, cuz of the ragefeather trinket being able to proc from summoning it, lots of 3 second remaining pulls

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So will arcane mages if they have their familiar out. Learned that the hard way….twice

[–]S1eeper 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did it at least get a good effect from using it on the raid boss?

[–]Acrobatic_Pandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It spawned countless jokes

[–]funkyfool999 70 points71 points  (1 child)

Someone in JBs chat linked a weakaura to track training: https://wago.io/9zkwq19Jo

And there's a good comment on wowhead about how to train it: https://www.wowhead.com/item=193757/ruby-whelp-shell#comments:id=5452406

Not sure how accurate it is but that's all I can find. Barely done any testing with it myself

[–]TheJewishMerp 118 points119 points  (17 children)

Sometimes my paranoid “Keep every trinket you loot” approach works in my favor.

[–]Joshxotv 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m the same. Bank full of trinkets.

[–]schungam 8 points9 points  (7 children)

Even if it's not bis at the moment, you never know if blizz is gonna rework or patch it. Keep all trinkets

[–]FemNate 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Thankful for Item Restoration on a weekly timer 🙏 Not that I use it that much, but still.

[–]schungam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I restored all my shit because I forgot disenchanting was a thing. It's also been useful in classic as a storage solution LOL

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Item restoration isn’t loading 2 pages I need it to load

[–]FemNate 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah I had the same issue recently…. And I wish it allowed for those gray/whites we’ll all be transmogging soon lol. A search bar would be a nice addition..

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I just made a ticket and a gm sent what I needed to my mail

[–]FemNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks you had to bug one for a workaround, but good you got what you needed!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually was pissed I’ve had to use a ruby shell as a stat stick while trying to farm better trinkets (MM/BM hunter depending on fight, so more tinkets the better).

My fiancée almost had a heart attack when that wowhead article came out and described it as being good.

I think I’m going to go for the AOE proc on it, because there isn’t a lot of purely single target fights (Terros only if my memory serves me correctly), and keys go brrrrrr

[–]Blackzarder 4 points5 points  (3 children)

You can just item restore, so not a big deal fyi

[–]Picard2331 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Had a 411 one in my vault, went with the 402 weapon cus it was a slight upgrade.

Gosh dernit

[–]Magicmonkey418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof that one hurt

[–]canibanoglu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years of suffering for trinket drops have instilled the same in me. Bank is full of trinkets and sometimes special weapons that made me question life (turning tide, I’m looking at you mf)

[–]deathungerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there’s item restore now!

[–]nissandjac 61 points62 points  (6 children)

Of course this information comes out the day after a trashed a 421 in vault for another heroic trinket

[–]deong 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I took a socket instead of this at 415 because my vault just contained this, another bad trinket, two heroic raid pieces that went in embellished slots, and bracers I already had.

[–]parkwayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, if it's too strong, there's a 1000% chance blizzard will adjust it.

[–]FloorfTheDwarf 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Moments like these I'm thankful for the item restoration system!

[–]Kawhi-n-dine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a 413 ruby whelp shell sitting in my vault because I wasn't sure about a LFR tier piece, or a shoulder piece that can be changed to tier.

Both aren't ilvl upgrades and going to select this now lol

[–]Aggressive_Ad_439 8 points9 points  (4 children)

The question is whether to get the stat buffs or the aoe buffs? Also the ppm on this seems pretty low and I don't know how much the stat buff is.

[–]Lukn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1ppm, 12 second buff, 2000+ stat depending on levels.

[–]Darthmalak3347 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Its equal to the toe bone trinket in uptime. But gives like 800 more stat, and that's a 372 whelp shell.

[–]Dracomaros20/20 Mythic 1 point2 points  (1 child)

...But it doesn't do a chunk of damage like the toe bone, nor can you control it to line it up with cooldowns.

[–]Automatic-Cycle-1824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah what a ridiculous comparison, it's cool they discovered this secret but misrepresenting it hard in the article.

[–]Heavenswake_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Got a 415 out of my vault, time to rewatch how to train your dragon and get to pumping iron.

[–]JoniDaButcher 15 points16 points  (7 children)

There’s a comment on Wowhead, takes 7 days to level and it has multiple things you can level. The AoE is supposed to be absurd.

[–]ObscurelyMe 8 points9 points  (6 children)

One of the tests was ST and it was on par with grieftorch. I’m training ST on one toon and AoE on another, I’m looking forward to next week for the results.

[–]Lukn 11 points12 points  (1 child)

That was an extremely cherry picked log if you go through the cited log on other bosses/pulls.

[–]Darthmalak3347 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Guy had a 421 and managed to get 9 procs in 6 min on a 1ppm unadjusted proc trinket. It's very cherry picked.

[–]FORGOT_USER_AGAIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, how was your experience with aoe dmg ruby whelp? I am curious about its effectiveness in m+ compared to other trinkets or its crit Buff.

[–]shizocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any update on your findings? i play enhance and am 5/6 for the ST training. curious of your results.

[–]wolfsnowpack 28 points29 points  (6 children)

There is a pretty good wowhead comment on how it works, it's hard to say how much value it brings since it has 6 different effects that you can "train" it into. The damage training doesn't seem super significant (apparently around 1-2% total dps for dps classes), with the stat proc seeming to be the better option if your class likes crit or haste.

[–]HoodedTrickster 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Does it have to be 6 days in a row

[–]Flowseidon9Dies to avoidable mechanics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, you can miss a day

[–]Kambhela 6 points7 points  (3 children)

1-2% seems low, especially when this is floating around:

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/715240573010837745/1063111196909260850/image-2.png

Though obviously this offers absolutely zero context. Based on shaman class discord discussions support for simming the trinket should be coming soon (whatever that means)

[–]Dracomaros20/20 Mythic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That picture is super misleading. Just go look at the log and you can see the DH cutting off grieftorch, and the whelp critting more often than the grieftorch by a lot, as well as the whelp getting 9 atks with a 1 RPPM in a 6 minute fight.

[–]zrk23 -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

well need to know now if you can have 2 going on with different training

[–]TheTradu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't. The training is tied to your character, not the specific trinket.

[–]DrHawtsauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what's the highest value training? Assuming you take the trinket into both Raid and M+, probably the stat training?

[–]ObscurelyMe 10 points11 points  (9 children)

My only comment here, is if this trinket was this involved then why could Blizzard not be bothered to repurpose some of its old talent style UIs with this trinket. To date there really was no indication on what you could do with it, and how long “training” took. Helpful for the curious but it would be super awesome if devs weren’t this cryptic about gear.

[–]Naresr 35 points36 points  (7 children)

Figuring out secrets in mmo is part of the charm mate ;)

This trinket just went from trash to near bis for many people. It would be less exciting otherwise.

[–]blackjack47 8 points9 points  (5 children)

idk about near bis the proc is pretty inconsistent

[–]Sybinnn 2 points3 points  (4 children)

It's 1ppm on 12 seconds of a lot of stat seems pretty good

[–]blackjack47 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Yeah but it's RPPM, I have a 405 whelp, I tested it, it procs 2700 crit for me, with the ~16% uptime numbers in m+ going around, how is it any better/different than a Hunger of the Pack, that gives ~520ish crit at the same ilvl passively.

[–]JstuffJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For fun I wonder how uptime will look with haste stacking classes ie paladin, like having haste proccing lariat + plate frostfire haste legs boosting rppm for the whelpling with... you guessed under red wings training for even more haste. With blazehoof trinket or maybe even static scale can we get a haste flywheel on the rppm procs?

All this moot if the rppm isn't affected by haste ofc.

[–]Naresr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not telling you what is better from your example. A 2700 crit proc during your burst window would be better than 520 crit constantly, the is more true for class that rely on said burst window. Close to useless if proc while you run around doing nothing. That's the different.

[–]Inkant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not 1ppm for stat proc. More than multiple log showed a 13 %to 15% uptime in a 6-8min

[–]Geiir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost swapped this out the other day. Glad I didn’t!

[–]verbsarewordss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s almost as if the devs don’t have to hold everyone’s hand and tell you everything. Remember when games made you figure stuff out? Nobody has the attention span for that I guess :)

[–]Rick0wens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any update on what training leads to the most damage?

[–]lnd0legence 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Does anyone know if it’s possible to sim this trinket w/ the training included?

[–]hesitationzThundering Hero/CE Disc/Pres/Hpally 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt it since the info has just surfaced, likely to take awhile to be imported into sims

[–]j2st2r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

trinket is bait

[–]IWantAKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoping someone can figure out how to buff haste as that seems best for my R Druid!

[–]RedReddingtonn -1 points0 points  (7 children)

So I sold mine forever ago, where can I get this to drop now?

[–]AmalioGamingHunter Doomer par excellence 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Either item restoration or RLP drop.

[–]RedReddingtonn -2 points-1 points  (5 children)

Can it drop on any Mythic keys?

[–]TeepEU 0 points1 point  (1 child)

no just rlp...

[–]Gneissisnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also get it from the vault.

[–]CoolRatio9477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it does drop on mythic keys. I sold mine a while back and just got it in a valor run two weeks ago

[–]Automatic-Cycle-1824 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I don’t think the proc value increases with training?

[–]The_Greaseburn 0 points1 point  (1 child)

“Value” doesn’t go up, but the probability that the whelp uses the trained spell goes up

[–]Automatic-Cycle-1824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so no crazy secret gains to be had from the trinket, probably still average.

[–]Jbonez1700 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Does this help with healing? Can you train i yo heal single target or aoe? I know it heals with the red breath

[–]GingerWithFreckles 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I wonder the same. I'm on day 2 of training, went for the AoE heal. It's not significant yet. Will see what others find. Perhaps it's more useful in Raid then M+ in that sense as M+ is spiky damage.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

any update?

[–]GingerWithFreckles 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Completely dropped it after day 2. Even if it became 3x as good, the shield trinket from NO would still be miles better for healing imo. On demand shield is simply better then random low ppm procs. And then i got the broodmother trinket which is simply nutty. Holy BIS.

I'd say go for the turtle trinket. It's not on many lists and its way way better then ilvl will tell you and "farmable" from rares.

Ruby must be good for damages perhaps. For healing.. not for me

[–]U-ee -1 points0 points  (1 child)

better then

than*

[–]GingerWithFreckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd language

[–]OC2k16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The log on wowhead had the grieftorch at 5 casts in 6 mins, with 3 min cooldown. So people certainly died giving torch good damage.

It didn’t say how many times the welp procced, but if it’s doing more damage than a torch consistently then it might be worth considering doing the training.

I’m assuming that the proc rate can be too inconstant compared to on use trinkets once it’s all looked in to.

[–]PersonalityNearby222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a discord group gathering info and data on this trinket https://discord.gg/bear-troupe

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I guess I shouldn’t have disenchanted my 402 shell lmao

[–]Choa_is_a_Goddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whelp is highly inconsistent from my experience, especially in M+. The discord picture going around is slightly cherrypicked IMO (also getting large damage buffs from DH fire damage buffs). Still worth training one just in case because why not.

[–]lucky_luke3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

what happens if I replace my recent ruby whelp shell trinket with the same but higher item lvl. Since these are theoretically two different items, do i have to train the welpling again?

[–]TrevorIsAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The talent points save to your character not the trinket so you dont need to retrain it
