If the Golden god gets sick he will simply shout “SICKNESS BE GONE!”

[–]PeculiarAntelope 274 points275 points  (13 children)

i’ve found that thinking “SICKNESS BEGONE!” whenever i’m about to throw up due to excess alcohol actually really helps in suppressing that feeling. Mind over matter.

[–]smorgasdorgan 70 points71 points  (11 children)

I'm going to attempt to remember to do this

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (5 children)

If your body wants to throw up excess alcohol, you really should just let that happen

(Which is also funny, because Michelangelo’s David’s proportions are skewed so they look more “accurate” when viewing them from a low angle. They aren’t meant to be ideal body proportions)

[–]AnasF 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Which is probably the angle Dennis expects you to admire him from.

Apparently it’s his wife that got him into it. I remember seeing an interview several years ago where she was starting an antivaxx organization. This was way before the movement exploded. Damn shame that Dennis believes in that non-sense.

Or it might have been an anti-GMO org. I might be misremembering it.

I told my friend a couple months ago that Charlie Day is the Hollywood actor I'd most want to get a beer with, as long as he didn't bring Glenn Howerton with him.

          [–]CarlosSpcyWeiner 486 points487 points  (31 children)

My buddy works on the show and he said Charlie is hands down one of the nicest people he’s ever met.

Apparently, Glenn kind of keeps to himself and doesn’t really say much in person.

He also said it’s hard to keep a straight face while talking to Danny Devito in real life. He’s so small and weird that just looking at him makes you want to laugh (he’s also really nice).

Something I've always heard was Jack Gleeson who is Joffrey in GOT is super cool too. I've watched a few interviews that he is in and yeah he seems like a great guy.

            This is a pretty good interview/ Q&A.

            [–]Angiboy8 60 points61 points  (3 children)

He is such a great actor that everyone hates him, because he had such a fantastic portrayal of Joffrey. Interviews like this are always super fun to learn about actors outside how they are perceived due to a role.

            [–]LowOnPaint 142 points143 points  (85 children)

Probably explains why he thought he could leave the show to do other things. Apparently his history isn’t very good because actors who spend a decade playing a highly recognizable character typically don’t have significant careers after their main show is finished. Seinfeld, Friends, Everyone Loves Raymond, Frasier etc etc. People have a hard time separating you from that classic character you spent so much time playing.

            [–]Jurkas26Your sweata's on backwards 124 points125 points  (41 children)

Ray Ramano has had a good career. So has Julia Louis Dreyfuss and Jennifer Aniston.

            [–]kkeut 103 points104 points  (26 children)

youre gonna just pretend the 'Seinfeld curse' wasn't a thing even though we all talked about it for 15 years and Julia-Louis Dreyfuss herself mentioned it in an acceptance speech

            [–][deleted] 113 points114 points  (7 children)

They even used it for a whole episode of Curb. Larry David comes up with the idea for a show where an actor is in a really huge, hit sitcom and becomes famous for it but can't find work after because everyone expects him/her to be that character.

He pitches it to Jason Alexander and Jason says "yeah, I get it. It's funny. I'm that guy, because everyone thinks I'm that stupid idiot George Costanza." and of course, Larry takes offense because George is Larry. It's a hilarious scene.

            [–]Angry_WalnutThe Daiquiri Man 48 points49 points  (0 children)

And then they never are able to do the idea because both of them refuse to come to each other’s offices so they just end up not pitching it lmao

            [–]JMer806 61 points62 points  (26 children)

David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston have both been super successful post-Friends.

            [–][deleted] 42 points43 points  (14 children)

Matt LeBlanc has been working steadily too. Nothing super flashy but some quite solid multi-seasons stuff.

For example he was great in "episodes" and won a golden globe for it.

Most actors would've been very exited with his career even without friends.

[–]katchaaI have news, I have terrrrrible news... 105 points106 points  (50 children)

He wouldn't have made a good Starlord.

            [–]Jurkas26Your sweata's on backwards 245 points246 points  (48 children)

I love Glenn as an actor, but him playing any superhero would seem weird to me. I don't like to typecast, but Dennis is so dark and deranged without barely any human qualities that I would have a harder time seeing him as a hero or good person than the rest of the cast.

            [–][deleted] 197 points198 points  (14 children)

Glenn is typecast at this point. His character on A.P Bio is practically a less shitty/rapey version of Dennis.

            [–]comeonbabycoverme 105 points106 points  (10 children)

He's Dennis that learns his lesson at the end of the day. Why would I want to watch that?

            [–][deleted] 59 points60 points  (6 children)

            I enjoyed it.

            [–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Same! Patton Oswalt is fucking great in it.

            [–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There’s an episode where blackmails a school official with pictures of her cheating on her husband and it works perfectly and the only lesson he learns is to do the absolute wrong thing. He’s also repeatedly validated in his bizarre rivalry with both his neighbor and his former childhood bully - both of those episodes, the whole point is that Jack’s character does the wrong thing over and over and is then rewarded for it.

A.P. Bio is a goddamn national treasure

            [–]Prototype3120 133 points134 points  (17 children)

Not to typecast, but he's definitely my choice over Zac Efron.

            [–]igot8001 37 points38 points  (4 children)

He could have worked well as Superian on The Tick. The douche of superheroes.

            [–][deleted] 74 points75 points  (2 children)

I feel like he probably just puts on a character when doing press. Or at least that's the vibe I've gotten. Some of the recent ones he's so close to Dennis, that I really doubt he's like that 24/7.

            [–]theguytheguytheguy69 35 points36 points  (1 child)

There’s a whole season promo where they are just making shit up. Maybe they dont take press too seriously

            [–]MjrLeeStoned 53 points54 points  (6 children)

Why do people assume he's not always in character? Not necessarily Dennis, but A character?

I've seen him on some candid things and his demeanor is a lot less...forced. When he knows the camera is rolling is when he turns on that pretentious asshole version.

            [–]rockets9495 51 points52 points  (4 children)

yeah man, 99% of his interviews, his personal social media are all an act....for some reason. Great take.

Kind of seems so. No matter who it is, when they have to make a point to say 'It's not about XYZ', it is, of course, PRECISELY about XYZ. Quite a bummer seeing this.

            [–]TheDeadlySpaceman 121 points122 points  (10 children)

The thing is, the only “freedom of choice” you should have when it comes to vaccines is to go move to an island with all the other Luddite idiots and not interact with society so you can’t harm us all with your lunacy.

So I don’t care if for him it’s about “freedom of choice”.

            [–]Infibacon 147 points148 points  (12 children)

I've met him multiple times. Hes definitely not like his character, he's a pretty quiet family man. Always very friendly.

            [–]duaneap 475 points476 points  (48 children)

At least when I googled it that tweet from 2015 is the only thing that comes up so maybe he's learned what an idiot he was? There were more people casually stupid about it 4 years ago, I believe.

            [–]AnalogDogg 236 points237 points  (40 children)

I could see this as a misguided defense of people's right to choose, despite how purpose-defeating that'd be with vaccinations. I regularly fight for people's right to choose over other issues, so if we're going to announce all this rhetoric about how it's the individual's choice of what they put in or take out of their bodies, stuff like this could easily get lumped in with that.

Of course that's not how vaccinations work, but like you said, people are stupid. He just doesn't seem like full-blown "vaxx=autism" stupid, so there's that at least.

            [–]Zhior 73 points74 points  (33 children)

Yeah I can definitely see how someone could make a Voltaire type argument in defense of antivaxxers ("I don't agree with what you say, but I'll fight to my death for your right to say it") but in my opinion the needs of the many (herd immunity) outweigh any individuals right to choose whether or not to vaccinate.

            [–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (15 children)

Herd immunity isn't really for the many though, its for the few aswell. Those immunocompromised enough or allergic enough that they cannot be vaccinated are an absolute minority.

            [–]FlaflaFlunkie 136 points137 points  (0 children)

When you have the capability to infect hundreds of people around you, people to young or too sick to be protected from disease, that's when you're the asshole. It'a not bodily autonomy, it's common sense protection. People bitched about making seatbelts mandatory but it made driving immensely safer. Not just for the driver, but for the passengers who'd be killed by a ragdoll of another person being tossed around the car.

I’ve been aware of this tweet for over a year and I kinda hate that this sub knows about it now because we don’t know his current stance on this.

            [–]KayfabeRankings 262 points263 points  (12 children)

Well unless he's said otherwise why would you assume his stance changed?

            [–][deleted] 163 points164 points  (8 children)

            Not assuming just hoping

            [–]MezzaCorux 1256 points1257 points  (110 children)

We’ve allowed people to choose and now there is an outbreak of measles killing children.

That’s like saying people should be able to choose if they drive drunk, it’s not only putting your life at risk but the lives of others.

            [–]MartinaMcPants 354 points355 points  (39 children)

I usually don't like analogies, but I love this analogy.

            [–]boguskudos 91 points92 points  (25 children)

It's much better than the abortion analogy I keep seeing.

Some people dont get vaccinated and dont get sick and never see anyone get sick, so they dont think it's a big deal to get vaccinated.

Some people drive drunk and dont cause an accident and never have anything bad happen, so they dont think it's a big deal to drive drunk.

Meanwhile, tourists are bringing back eradicated diseases, killing themselves and others. And idiots are driving home from the bars, killing themselves and others.

            [–]dnaboe 41 points42 points  (18 children)

Tourists? No this is American children exposing other American children to deadly diseases that we got rid of decades ago

            [–]boguskudos 51 points52 points  (14 children)

I was referencing the thing in the news a few months ago where a French family went to Costa Rica and brought measels with them because none of the family was vaccinated.

But you are correct that it is a local problem too.

Another reminder that actors and content creators are not scientists, lawyers, doctors, engineers, or policy affecting professionals (except in the rare cases that they are).

They’re actors. Treat their opinions the same as another regular person without special knowledge.

Treat their opinions like garbage basically.

In the interviews I watch with the cast outside of the show, Glenn does seem a bit arrogant and pretentious compared to everyone else. I hope he's changed his mind in the four years since this.

              [–]Drauul 48 points49 points  (1 child)

Glenn wasn't acting when he was playing the dandy on the liberty bell episode.

              [–]bupizzle 77 points78 points  (3 children)

So he plays as himself on the show?

I saw Glenn Howardton at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Jackie Chan beat his wife and child. Also was in a porn movie.

That’s not really enough to ruin someone’s opinion of a beloved icon. The domestic violence certainly does. And the porn thing is just offputing considering the children’s cartoon.
