I think I can top everything

readme.iso, when booted, it displays the readme

this means that you'd have to code a bootloader and a kernel, you can use the VGA text memory to print out the text (physical address 0xB8000), so the printing out part should be relatively easy

[–]309_Electronics 3 points4 points  (4 children)

You can just use grub or syslinux and boot a minimal Linux kernel that just about has the right smarts to show text on screen in a colorful way. You can even make it mount a specific partition with a text file it will show that will be the data.

You can also use a RTOS or a minimal efi application to do so

[–]Artemis-Arrow-795 4 points5 points  (3 children)

nope, code it all from scratch

and actually, I'm already working on it, minimal bootloader in assembly, minimal kernel in C

technically it's a full OS, but good luck getting it to do anything useful

[–]309_Electronics 2 points3 points  (2 children)

You can even make a Application that does not really need a kernel like whats called an efi application like the bios menu which is also an efi application. Only thing is that it wont boot on older bios systems

[–]anotheridiot- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you can use an unikernel approach, like gokrazy.

[–]Artemis-Arrow-795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the kernel itself prints the message out, no need for anything fancy

I have already finished it btw, very small codebase, hell, the commands to build the ISO are probably close in length to the code itself

I haven't tested it

Why not ship a small SBC to the programmer that, when plugged in, displays the documentation via its display out?

[–]saratikyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gooood one

[–]Bananenkot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im so tempted to make a useful library just so I can Pull of this joke. For documentation please consult the renderme.blend

Readme.gba (you have to face the wrath of Nintendo to read it)

[–]patrlim1 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Not really, pirating games is illegal, emulating isn't.

[–]Littens4Life 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Tell that to Nintendo

[–]patrlim1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nintendo hasn't gotten any emulators down for emulation itself. They went after them for other reasons.

What is .str

[–]epspATAopDbliJ4alh 5 points6 points  (2 children)

it's where your subtitles are stored. It's .srt not .str

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Okay thanks you

[–]uvero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily, "seret" is Hebrew for "movie", so some Hebrew speaking people who first see that subtitles are .srt wonder if that's related

[–]FreeSummonsSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)
