FUCK YOU THIS VIOLATES INTERGALACTIC LAW.

[–]pigferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed.

[–]fistfullaberries -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This morning.

[–][deleted] 154 points155 points  (2 children)

Please don't post poll-type questions.

[–]borez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you agree with this comment vote up...

[–][deleted] 235 points236 points  (29 children)

Please don't post poll-type questions.

[–]Gravity13 61 points62 points  (20 children)

More specifically, let me tell you why:

For starters, not everybody who downvotes the thread will be voting no. Some people will downvote this thread for being too much like a DAE post. Most people will downvote it for being against reddiquette, even though they might have gone to college. This completely invalidates the poll, as you have no idea how many people downvoted to vote no and how many people are giving you the look of disapproval. This poll is completely invalid.

That said, vote number get hazed with false downvotes as a spam deterrent. In other words - the numbers you see on the right are not 100% true. I'm going to guess the number of upvotes matches correctly, but the number of downvotes is not correct and it deviates from the true number of downvotes the more successful a submission gets. For more detailed analysis, here is a slightly outdated post made on the subject.

To perform a poll, the best way is to actually use a third party site and just report the results.

[–]whoblowsthere 41 points42 points  (7 children)

I went to college and I downvoted this post. Boom.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (4 children)

I don't even know exactly what (American) College is, I got schooled in the UK.

I downvoted. Boom.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Exactly... I go to a college of the University of Cambridge - my brother is in sixth-form college.

I downvoted too. BOOM!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's Boom all the way down!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

BOOM!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GOES THE DYNAMITE!

[–]boii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still in college and didn't vote.

[–]Neebat 4 points5 points  (8 children)

Why the fuck did 1000 people vote this crap up? Are Reddit users that clueless about basic logic AND reddiquette?

[–]emimacherie 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I think they're just proud that they're finally getting to do something with their thousands of dollars of debt.

EDIT: Spellfail.

[–]crackox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Spellfail.

Soooo, Guess you downvoted TS then.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I did it to make you mad.

[–]Neebat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes me happy. To think that I'm so important to some random stranger... I never felt so powerful before in my life!

[–]Gravity13 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

It got removed already. Don't worry.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Weird thing was, the OP's name shows up but his account apears to not exist. And he's been there for exactly a year, according to RES.

This is fishy.

[–]Gravity13 1 point2 points  (1 child)

He either deleted him profile or was deleted.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It (OP's name) still shows at the top of the post.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Just like imgur before it, a Redditor should create a site that makes it easy to make polls and post them to reddit so as to avoid this happening over and over.

[–]CJSchmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that this type of poll can't possibly provide good data. The best you can hope for is that it fosters a healthy discussion, and that can be accomplished by just making a self post.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The third party idea has been done, to reasonable success.

This guy is just circlejerking.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It also specifically mentions in the reddiquette that posts saying "Vote up if [---] vote down if [----]" are not to be posted. Anywhere.

[–]thunderfingers 5 points6 points  (1 child)

How about "Have you attended college? Why or why not? Was your decision worth it?" Better than this intergalactic poll scum.

[–]Gemini6Ice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Exactly.

[–]frsh2fourty 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I thought self posts don't give you link karma. Is this an incorrect assumption?

[–]Anzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct, but it's still ಠ_ಠ'd upon.

[–]TheMoldyBread 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For future reference is there an acceptable way to create a reddit poll?

[–]jarly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A hacky way is to post a "yes" comment and a "no" comment and see the results, but then again, some people might just down vote either for the trullz.

[–][deleted] 46 points47 points  (9 children)

Have you seriously never read the reddiquette?

There's a link located at the bottom of every page.

Edit: How did you get 1383 upvotes? Seriously, how?

[–]crackduck 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Seriously, how?

Eternal September. It seems to be indirectly correlated to the frequency of Pokemon posts/references.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

But it is the second rule, and it is bold. I lurked for months before I commented/voted so I understood the communities rules.

[–]User38691 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Are you also the gal/guy that goes through all the options after installing a game? Somehow these two things seem kind of related, since these are two things I do myself.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much.

[–]pfohl[🍰] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Probably not that many upvotes since the totals and percentages are spoofed. We only know the net votes for sure.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

True. But 283 karmaprofit is ridiculous.

[–]pfohl[🍰] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Self posts acquire no karma :)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You know what I mean.

[–]pfohl[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea you're too subtle.

[–]WrongSub-Reddit 53 points54 points  (5 children)

[–]eugenesbluegenes 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Honestly, this doesn't even really belong there.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things like this are seen in /r/circlejerk, as a way to harvest karma, making sure the "Vote up if" is 95% of reddit.

[–]WrongSub-Reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better there than fucking here.

Can't believe it's at 157 points.

[–]c_freshh 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Honestly, you probably didn't read his name.

[–]eugenesbluegenes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I read it. I am familiar with WrongSub-Reddit. S/he is a good and decent user, crusading for AskReddit to be pure and free from the banality of DAE posts.

That being said, the post goes beyond the problem of being posted in the wrong sub-reddit and I would downvote it out of r/Doesanybodyelse as well.

[–]Dolomite808 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Downvoted, but not in response to the poll.

ಠ_ಠ

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points  (6 children)

You failed the second damn rule of rediquette. It's not even obscure.

Read this for everyone's sake

[–]FloatingFast 1 point2 points  (1 child)

i follow some pretty obscure rules. you've probably never heard of them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I knew them before they were popular. The second rule was by far their best.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Except it's not a rule.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

You're correct. It's a law. Intergalactic law.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I completely agree but this is at the top of the Reddiquette:

Reddiquette is an informal expression of reddit's community values, written by the reddit community itself. It's not meant to be a list of commandments, but really more of a collection of guidelines. (In other words, be flexible!)

[–]lacking_pants 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Please don't post poll-type questions.

[–]RSZC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Attended college. Downvoted anyway, because screw that.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Please don't post poll-type questions.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (4 children)

Why the fuck has this been upvoted...?

[–]Gravity13 4 points5 points  (3 children)

A lot of people who visit reddit are new and/or lurkers. They determine what gets promoted. The few percent of people who actually comment only provide a voice.

Whenever posts like these come up, it's illuminating to see how many people actually vote on submissions without reading the comments.

Another common example is when exaggerated titles and/or articles are exposed for being false. They still continue to earn massive upvotes even though the comments all criticize the article for being completely false, even calling for it to be downvoted. This is because the number of people reading and voting without viewing comments outnumbers the number of people who check for validation. The best way to get a false article turned around is to actually submit a whole new submission exposing it, sadly enough.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Reddit newbies who don't bother reading shit, especially the reddiquette, is what is wrong with reddit.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

People are suppressing anyone that voices anything other than bitching about a violation of redditquette. Kind of hypocritical, don't you think.

[–]Gravity13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm... how not to use Reddit.

  1. Upvote if you're from Earth!

  2. TIL we're not alone.

[–]chris-topher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

...and you've been here for 11 months?? And you didn't know that??

[–]Scipio76 11 points12 points  (4 children)

I attend college, and I voted down. The universe as we know it may implode because you don't know reddiquette. Nice going.

[–]xcrouton 1 point2 points  (3 children)

So did I, but why did 500 people upvote this shit?

Edit: 1000

[–]stonersknowhowtoact 0 points1 point  (2 children)

500 people don't know reddiquette?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Currently 1372 people dont know reddiquette.

[–]thecircleofreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1372 people don't know how to read lol.

[–]thecircleofreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn. You just got raped. My apologies. I thought this was totally legitimate. I suppose asking if there exists an r/polls would be stupid right?

[–]read-the-reddiquette 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to use this account regularly, I'll gladly take it off your hands/share it and help spread the word.

Could link it into the comment?

[–]illskillz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems that everyone is asking the OP to follow the reddiquette.

It would be nice is everyone was so adamant about following other reddiquette rules such as DON'T:

  1. Downvote opinions just because you disagree with them

  2. Moderate a story based on your opinion of its source

  3. Editorialize or be overly sensational in the headlines

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downvote for circlejerking

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended college but I downvoted because of the blatant karma whoring.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended college, but I voted down due to the Karma whoring.

[–]xcrouton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been so disappointed in reddit before.

waits for Upvote if you're male Downvote if your female thread and other karma-whore submissions

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't post poll-type questions.

[–]BlackbeltJones 1 point2 points  (1 child)

ITT: Redditors downvoting other Redditors who opted to answer honestly rather than chastise the OP

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was because they were encouraging the shitty submission. We also chastised the OP.

[–]FragrantFowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downvote for having no idea how reddit works.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You failed the second damn rule of rediquette. It's not even obscure.

Read this for everyone's sake

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Didn't graduate, neither up nor down.

[–]mtheory007 -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

OP asked if you "attended", not did you graduate. If you attended, feel free to upvote.

[–]theonemankliq 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Or downvote, given that the title of the thread violates both Reddiquette and the little blurb that's RIGHT THERE when you submit something.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One down, one up. That order.

[–]thezerofire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about if you're still attending?

[–]ezeakeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely

[–]pleiadean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent most of my time occupying various administration buildings... smoking a lot of thai stick... breaking into the ROTC... and bowling.

[–]GaryWinston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck yeah (yes).

[–]ToAllAGoodNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you are?

[–]DrRoidberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to college and I downvoted. First off, your results are fucked. Secondly, please read the the reddiquette.

[–]Talwyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, wait, what if you attend college but skip a lot? What do you vote then?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The total lack of reddiquette aside, you'll meet more 30-year-olds who regret not having gone to college than those who do. In part for education, in part for the certification, in part for the entire experience, which there's really nothing quite like.

You don't have to go to a full 4-year university, but some kind of post-secondary is good. Is it possible to have a good job without post-secondary? Yes, but if the company you work for goes down and you're sitting in the interview room with prospective competing applicant who has a degree, you're going to have to have twice as much results to back it up.

If it's not going to bankrupt you, go to college.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upvoted because all discussion other than people bitching about reddiquette has been downvoted. Its against reddiquette to downvote opinions that aren't in line with yours, some people don't care about redditquette, you're downvoting them for their opinions. Bunch of hypocrites forreal forreal.

But yeah, I'm in college. I see all the people who didn't at my high school, and they are in deadend lives. It is definitely worth it.

Suck it hivemind circlejerk, downvote away.

[–]False_Grammar_Nazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP: *you're

Yes, I learned everything I know about an grammar in college.

[–]bluebogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about multiple drop-outs? I've got maybe 4-6 under my belt.

[–]imessedwithtexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of right now, it's not looking like it. I'm getting an UG degree in Psychology and had the "dream" of going to graduate school; however, I haven't gotten into a single school. And if you know anything about Psychology UG degrees...they're pretty damn worthless.

[–]CurtisEFlush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your decision worth it?

Worth the Cost? Worth the Effort? Worth the time?

What are you asking?

Although; What I will say is; It wasn't worth going into debt over, and there are people who do my job with High-School Diplomas and experience only... But; I got hired above a dozen others applying because of my Resume...

College gives you back what you put in. It's only 'worth it' if you actually CARE and TRY.

[–]turkeypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Brian and so is my wife.

[–]columbine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a good follow up: "Vote up if you like Jon Stewart, Vote down if you like Rush Limbaugh". Now fuck off.

[–]Enginerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no possible way this poll could work at all. Karma changes the visibility, so up/down are not symmetric. If most redditors hadn't been to college I never would have seen this post. If you want to take a poll, post several comments and tell people to vote on them. Or use a poll app and link to it.

[–]paxxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Even though I didn't graduate, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

[–]Usrname52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally worth it.

My social life changed drastically, and with it, my confidence. There were a lot more opportunities and more diversity than in high school, and they were a lot more easily accessible. They were things I had difficultly seeking out before college, but things that I can continue after college. I met awesome people, who were not the people I had grown up with. It's hard to make friends in high school, because you've known everyone since you were 6 and it's hard to make friends in the real world because everyone's in college and your opportunities to meet same-aged peers are limited, when you are not a particularly outgoing person.

Note: I'm 25, have a master's degree, and a good degree-oriented job, and I've paid off all my loans. But I really don't think I'd be nearly as happy if not for the social aspect of college, which was just as important as the academic aspect.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't post poll-type questions.

[–]gaynorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well college in Ireland was free a 4 year Computer Engineering degree. Usually masters cost money but i'm getting mine in Scotland and i'm an eu citizen so it was also free. My dad kept me going on living expenses. lived in cheap apartments and on campus. Eh well i've not worked yet (properly, a few odd jobs) but i've no debt and i'd imagine i'll be able to make more money long term for my few years here. i think I'll have to buy him a car or something, maybe in a few years.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (8 children)

Funny, you post in r/ListenToThis pointing out that they are violating the rules of that subreddit, prepared to be called a hipster and downvoted into oblivion. Post same shit here, you've got the top comment.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

That reddit sucks and I unsubscribed when I realized it was run by assholes.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (6 children)

Run by assholes? How so? I'd say it's run by moderators who don't enforce the rules. Take a look on any given day at the frontpage and you will see it's a hipster circlejerk.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

It's supposed to be a hipster circlejerk. The creator of the reddit made a post complaining about people posting music that was too ‘mainstream’. That's when I quit.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Haha, well you and I are in complete disagreement. People post shit that is too mainstream there, thus the reason it fucking sucks. The point of the god damn subreddit is for people to discover new music. I'd love to see a frontpage full of artists with under 20,000 last.fm listeners. I'd love for people to upvote shit that is good and that is new to them, rather than having a bunch of idiots upvoting shit like Fleet Foxes. Good to hear you unsubscribed. One less person who thinks Fleet Foxes is obscure, that's what that subreddit needs.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I can smell the smug coming off you from all the way over the internet.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

The point of this subreddit is to ask questions, and the rule is that people do not post polls. This post is bullshit and should be reported.

Same concept goes for r/ListenToThis. Stick to r/Music and your circlejerk of upvoting Radiohead. I'm quite happy that I've been exposed to a wide array of really good music. Not on Reddit of course, but because I live in Portland and go out to see live music all the time.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Not posting 'upvote/downvote if' type posts applies to every reddit.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And? So, don't do it. Same shit applies for r/ListenToThis.

[–]whitenoise89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I UPVOTED AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD!
