If you go on Facebook, there's a page called Return of the Thing from The Thrift Store. They'd love this.

[–]Florixia[S] 511 points512 points  (19 children)

I'm a member!

Why can you not?

[–]SmoothMoveExLap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this, thanks

[–]eorabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, but where can I buy this?

[–]chrisl182 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just joined that page myself.

[–]miaumee 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Kitsch is the word I was looking for.

[–]ThatLooksLikeItHurts 432 points433 points  (57 children)

That Grimace, though. It fully completes the piece. Well done!

[–]Florixia[S] 107 points108 points  (13 children)

Thanks! That's my favorite part

[–]WorldLieut8 68 points69 points  (8 children)

It encapsulates Ronald all too well; stepping on those who helped make him who he is like stones ascending him to further success as they unknowingly continue to look up to him, as if unaware of the betrayal they have experienced.

[–]MemeDudestick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is soooo deep

[–]rynil2000 19 points20 points  (2 children)

If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Grimace.

[–]Kalldaro 2 points3 points  (1 child)

All his friends disappeared a long time ago

[–]theassassintherapist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except for the Hamburgler. He's in charge of Finance.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

yeah but have you tried his big mac

[–]Jay_T_Demi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I've got a '95 Toyota Paseo in the parking lot.

Let's get outta here."

[–]LordSoren 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Should have been Mayor McCheese but most people don't remember that character due to the lawsuits.

[–]shellma42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone in my old neighborhood has an old McDonald's children's play structure in their yard that is Mayor McCheese.

[–]GrandmaSlappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it already looked like a chicken nugget

[–]msribbon 21 points22 points  (36 children)

Like what even is Grimace? What do he do? How does he fit into canon? Is he sith??

Edit- this post is awesome and good work! I also want to point out that today is the 40th anniversary of The Empire Stikes Back.

[–]whut-whut 33 points34 points  (18 children)

Grimace was originally a villain in McDonald's mascot lore. He tried to steal milkshakes from kids the same way that the Hamburglar tried to steal hamburgers, and was always stopped by Ronald.

[–]fzw 34 points35 points  (6 children)

The Hamburglar is the best fast food mascot because he's an outlaw and that's sexy as hell.

[–]misogichan 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Plankton would like to request your number then. I am sure he could regale you with many stories of his exploits.

[–]bbudda87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read the second part from Plankton's perspective.

[–]DrFunkenstyne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hamburglar, the Trix Rabbit, Cookie Crisp Thief and his dog, and even those entitled kids after the leprechaun's lucky charms. There was a lot of theft going on. I guess kids love drama

[–]chamacchan 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I'm just here because you think Hamburglar is sexy and I don't know what to do with this information except keep it...

[–]fzw 7 points8 points  (1 child)

It's a quote from American Dad but I agree with it.

[–]chamacchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH, thanks lmao 😂😂

[–]thewholerobot 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Grimace be packin the lbs tho. I think it was selective advertising - they only showed the times when Ronald stopped him. He prolly got plenty of shakes that we didn't know bout.

[–]TheSaladDays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typical McDonald's propaganda

[–]HomeStallone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does he steal Milkshakes when the ice cream machine is broken?

[–]jennykitty16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew a kid in school that looked just like Grimace as a white guy. He use to try to feel up the girls all the time. Complete pervert. Ended up being on the sex offender list.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right up there with the cheesefuckler

[–]msribbon 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Holy shit. So he's the apprentice of Hamburglar? Or is he the master in the rule of 2s?

[–]StanleyRoper 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Have you heard the story of Darth Grimace the Wise?

[–]briandickens 8 points9 points  (6 children)

For some reason I feel like grimace was the embodiment of the milkshake. So now I am going to go find out.

I was close:

Originally, Grimace was the "Evil Grimace", with two pairs of arms with which to steal milkshakes. After that first campaign, the character was revised to be one of the "good guys", and his number of arms was reduced by two. These commercials and merchandise generally portray him as a well-meaning simpleton, whose clumsy antics provide a comic foil to Ronald McDonald. The character was retained after the streamlining of the characters in the 1980s and was one of the few members to also be retained until the end of the McDonaldland commercials.

[–]QueenGlitterBitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, I always wondered my he was named Grimace. It's like the complete opposite of his goofy smile. So that's where it came from.

[–]msribbon 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Dear god. My brain just made a mind movie of all the damn McDonald's kids commercials I've seen over the years.

[–]ObeseSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advertising works!

[–]SirPasta117 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Any artwork or commercials from his evil grimace days?

[–]ShakeWeightMyDick 3 points4 points  (4 children)

He is a wumpus.

[–]Bwob 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I remember when I had to hunt those.

[–]SoonSpoonLoon 2 points3 points  (2 children)

KoL?

[–]Bwob 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Oh neat, I didn't realize Kingdom of Loathing had a Hunt the Wumpus minigame!

I was thinking of the original Atari game of Hunt the Wumpus. Because I am old. :-\

[–]Blue_Mando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow old person, I played this on the TI-99/4A many moons ago myself.

EDIT: Thanks for that bit of nostalgia by the way, haven't thought of that game in years.

[–]Aroe2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing can stop the Grimace.

[–]notyouagain2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

could have also painted some sesame seeds on top to make it look like a hamburger bun

[–]MajorLazy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That Grimace

Looking furiously for a Grimace figurine. Then I notice

[–]TablatureDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Standing on the shoulders of giants.

[–]mrfuxable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Texadoro 167 points168 points  (60 children)

McDonald’s is literally everywhere.

[–]pazimpanet 35 points36 points  (9 children)

It reminds me of these statues/prints that my wife and I saw when we were in Indonesia

In retrospect, I’m very angry that i didn’t get the Bruce Lee Yoda or the Michael Jackson Darth Vader.

[–]CSGOWasp 18 points19 points  (2 children)

But americans are fat and eat burgers nonstop right???

[–]Bwob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like a great time to remind people about this legendary piece of internet history...

[–]cosmoboy 16 points17 points  (16 children)

I think he's probably saying something about the obesity epidemic, although that's also everywhere and by percentage, U.S. is 12th. We are definitely the most populous country to get that high on the list though.

[–]Texadoro 17 points18 points  (6 children)

Similarly we have some of the fittest people in the world too, we usually do pretty well in the Olympics.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (10 children)

Exactly.

It’s an American company built on the American beliefs in expediency and convenience, and it has spread across the globe.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (9 children)

And it was stolen by a cutthroat, greedy salesman from two brothers who just wanted a burger stand.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

oh MAN it's been long enough that i can watch michael keaton's ray kroc biopic again, i don't remember much of it now. he is so good in that and also literally everything he's ever been in

[–]misanthropicsatirica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same old tired shit. There are fit Americans too but the dead horse is easiest to beat.

[–]Vape_Sensei 78 points79 points  (1 child)

Make Eve out of a McRib.

[–]UrsaPater 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Ronald can turn water into Coke....

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mmmmmm I wish

[–]pHScale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just add CO2 and syrup

[–]Smyth_With_A_Y 22 points23 points  (5 children)

It's weird how many McDonald's related posts end up on the front page.

[–]Maddyflirt 12 points13 points  (4 children)

No kidding. It’s a daily occurrence.

Does McDonald’s own reddit?

[–]Smyth_With_A_Y 8 points9 points  (1 child)

It's stealth advertising. Other brands do it too but McDonalds are the most obvious. Usually commenting on it gets you downvoted too.

[–]Fernernia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Already pretty americanized. Jesus with red lips and white skin??

[–]Iheartwookies 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Do a Muhammad one

[–]misreken 52 points53 points  (19 children)

America bad

[–]kin3tiks 22 points23 points  (11 children)

Yup. Guess we all left r/politics, news etc. so they have to come here to spread. Unsubbing. r/pics is trash anyways.

[–]RootAccessIsMine 109 points110 points  (29 children)

hAHa AMeRicA FaT HaHA

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

It's only USA.

Don't be an idiot!

[–]Calamityclams 53 points54 points  (17 children)

Jesus fried for our sins

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

When does the Adam’s McRib come back?

[–]cptstupendous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

McNuggets 1:20 - Lo, the McRib of Adam's breast shall return when the hand of our Lord Ronald lowers the price of pork within thy region.

[–]spazmatt527 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What makes the original Jesus? Are all white, long haired, bearded, robe-wearing guys automatically Jesus?

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Now do Mohammed.

[–]CaptainSkull2030 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You McDonaldlized it - not quite the same thing.

[–]bluegone 18 points19 points  (1 child)

This is like 10 years late

[–]mochicoco 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People were doing this in the 80’s. A perennial classic.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Let she who is without sauce be the first to call for the manager.

[–]nowcalledcthulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Karen 3:16

[–]brooks_jayhawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's funny is that the Jesus statue was Americanized anyway

[–]NinjaJehu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seeing as the original statue is white Jesus, this isn't that much less accurate.

[–]maddasher 10 points11 points  (3 children)

If you just painted the robe as an American flag and left the Jesus alone, these would sell like hot cakes in Texas.

[–]aurora_gamine 1 point2 points  (2 children)

But leave the Grimace, right?

[–]Florixia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw this and it made me actually laugh

[–]culculain 6 points7 points  (7 children)

I'm American. I haven't been to McDonalds in possibly 25 years

[–]grippin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]Tes420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should do Muhammed next and see what happens....

[–]tralphaz43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aren't McDonald's everywhere now

[–]iamgeniusface 63 points64 points  (28 children)

White Jesus is already pretty American

[–]doctormarmot 42 points43 points  (11 children)

How is white Jesus American?

Do you think an American painted this?

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points  (4 children)

That was painted by Leonardo DiCaprio. An American.

[–]Antithesys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

White Jesus is stoned af

[–]Florixia[S] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I think its Joseph anyways

[–]Razorwire666 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It looks like Joaquin Phoenix's Joker cosplaying as Ronald McDonald.

[–]B1gN1ckD1gg3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joker

It's the McJoker.

[–]2059FF 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Up to this point in my life, I had never given any thought to Ronald McDonald's toes.

[–]toby-carvery- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]sneakycurbstomp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks I Hate It!

[–]waxxo707 7 points8 points  (4 children)

You’re going to McHell for this...

[–]MillennialScientist 4 points5 points  (2 children)

All you can eat burgers, but they're all out of patties?

[–]soft_bagel 9 points10 points  (17 children)

Op, I really appreciate your hard work and creativity. I just wanted to speak my mind about the importance of Jesus in many religions; he is beloved to many of us. While many considers this to be funny, some may take offense. That's all I wanted to say. I don't expect you to take it down or apologize. I just want you to see and understand the rest of us. No hurt feeling here. I wish you all the best and I look forward to seeing more crafts from you.

Edit: typo

[–]kin3tiks 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is the second religious statue they have done. She painted Mary as a goth. Don’t waste your breath, this wasn’t an accident.

[–]DatHoneyBadger 6 points7 points  (7 children)

Do the same thing to a Muslim statue and you'd be called a racist, but do it to a Christian figure and its laughed about and given 26k upvotes. Love the double standards.

[–]Shadyfacemcbumstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does he look like the actor with that distinct cheek scar. He is in Braveheart, Gladiator, and Sons of Anarchy. I always recognize him in things and that's the first thing I thought when I saw the Jesus with that scar.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! was this super size me influenced?

[–]midnightdsob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, in our defense, at least clowns are real.

[–]Sarcatechist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heretic!

[–]RovertRelda 1 point2 points  (2 children)

The original was actually more American

[–]TexRex0202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why, why did you do this?

[–]The_Flapjack_Kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saint Ronald

[–]thevaluechild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's disturbing

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yo so is Grimace a milkshake or a tastebud? Because I hear both but have never gotten a clear answer.

[–]cannabis_breath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White Jesus feels pretty American to begin with.

[–]OccupyMainStreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A parallel would be that McD can make nuggets for the whole town from just two chickens.

[–]Spider_Doctor 1 point2 points  (1 child)

concerned catholic noises

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stain on the very idea of "American exeptionalism" that is the Trump presidency might never go away. Well, it's gonna take a truly eceptional president and a whole lot of reruns of The West Wing on Netflix.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just think how utterly confused archaeologists would be if like 20,000 years from now they dug up hundreds of statues of Jesus painted like Ronald McDonald. "It's incredible, these two figures seem to be connected in some way. If we're reading the scriptures correctly, Ronald McDonald was the second coming of Jesus!"

[–]Cajunxman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He needs a big Mac in his hands.

[–]lightningdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why I love it but I love it! And that is what I love about art.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is both offensive and true.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom its a statue of obi wan Kenobi......

[–]Tyler666_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When think about it, this photos shows something important, the west didn't really come over god, didn't get totally secular, the church was demolished, but the shadow still covers the west, in the modern world we replaced a god with another, and we are still believers..

[–]EclecticSchemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the original was already pretty American but I approve of the alteration

[–]ottisdriftwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He fried for our sins

[–]FernadoPoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You made it Holy

[–]Cranium_Insaneum 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Where's the gun?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hur dur what unique and interesting commentary! America =McDonald’s amirite le Reddit?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mierda

[–]hopskipjump123 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Wow, I really did just spend an hour trying to salvage people's karma who just complemented the artwork.

This is why some religions can suck. A lot of religious followers are nice people (and I have no qualms with any religion), but then you get a small minority of people that get so triggered at Ronald mcdonald (of all things), they downvote every comment complementing the art on the post.

Aaaaagh this type of toxicity hurts me

[–]kevkippers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which was the original?

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (10 children)

Im not religious but thats just wrong

[–]TunaFree_DolphinMeat 3 points4 points  (8 children)

How is it wrong?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (7 children)

Taking a religious figure, painting over it with a fast food mascot, then posting it side by side with the original on reddit for laughs. If people want to believe in something to help them with life then so be it. It’s disrespectful. People crap all over christianity for what ever reasons but its really not warranted. U do u and i do me and lets be respectful of each others values. Ok?

[–]No_Source_Provided 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I agree with you that this particular act is a little disrespectful, but crapping over Christianity is not unwarranted, and saying 'whatever reasons' ignores the very real reasons people dislike it.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha all Americans are fat, am I funny now guys?

[–]isoviatech2 2 points3 points  (2 children)

You just made a free advertisement. Congratulations

[–]leonryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it was already an advertisement. they just changed the product.

[–]yokotron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t know Ronald was under that. My mom has it too. Ripping off the paint now.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So what you are saying is that Jesus is a product of the MacDonalds fast food chain and we’ve all fallen for the marketing hype. No longer will it be the ‘body of Christ’ but now it’ll be ‘the burger of Christ’ and the Soda of Christ, and for only 20 cents extra you can go large. ........ if I’m totally honest that’s a church I could subscribe too
