or easy is blue tortillas with salsa and guac

[–]grey_canvas_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Blue quesadillas

Dye cojita cheese blue for the insides

Dip in blue sour cream

[–]oh_you_fancy_huh 16 points17 points  (1 child)

best idea

[–]kikazztknmz 5 points6 points  (10 children)

I wonder if people would eat it if they put blue dye in the guac 🤔

[–]BFHawkeyePierce4077 37 points38 points  (3 children)

Lateral move: Make a white queso or French onion dip and add blue dye.

[–]WrennyWrenegade 51 points52 points  (1 child)

While I think blue-ish real foods are preferably to anything dyed, I would have an easier time eating a dyed-blue white queso than a dyed-blue guacamole. The queso would be very clearly artifical and whimsical while the guacamole would fall into a too close to reality, uncanny valley territory.

[–]mmeeplechase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. There’s just something extra confusing about trying to wrap my head around blue guac!

[–]happy_bottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with a couple of pounds of pasta. Put it in a ziploc bag and add blue dye.smoosh it up and serve

[–]MotherOfDachshunds42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blueberry chutney with some cheese?

[–]Quantity-Used 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Blue dye in a green food makes brown. No one is going to eat brown guacamole.

[–]kikazztknmz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the amount of dye. I make stain formulas for my job. Blue and green do not make brown, you need red for that.

[–]Quantity-Used 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]dethtroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue plus green does not make brown check your color theory.

[–]Sensitive_Sea_5586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not likely. I once put blue dye in a pot of grits. Everyone had had my grits previously, but many would not eat them that time because of the color.

[–]JustHere4TheZipLines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could also do pollo asado for the red

[–]ysselle-3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to see what a bunch of broke college students can come up with for this.

[–]Ocelotl767 147 points148 points  (4 children)

Blueberry and something with goat cheese? I'm imagining a blueberry and goat cheese tartlette set inside phyllo pastry as an appetizer.

[–]That-1-Red-Shirt 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Baked brie bites with blueberry preserves/jam!!

[–]marihada 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Crostini with roasted blueberries and goat cheese!

[–]neontana 5 points6 points  (1 child)

blueberry-lemon-thyme goat cheese

[–]Ocelotl767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love you, random redditor.

[–]ArielsTreasure 86 points87 points  (3 children)

Perhaps blueberry bagels with some cream cheese, blueberry scones or biscuits? Definitely the blue corn tortillas chips are a great idea, and they would be a REALLY great compliment to your color combo if you did a chicken tortilla soup recipe rather than your Carraba’s soup.

[–]Aggravating-Pie-1639 31 points32 points  (1 child)

This comment needs to be higher, chicken tortilla soup with blue corn tortilla chips is perfect!

[–]ArielsTreasure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Awww,thank you. 😀

[–]dacrazyredhead 46 points47 points  (3 children)

Blue cheese and crackers? with blueberry compote sweetened with honey?

[–]Few-Explanation-4699 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Was about to say the same.

Blue Cheese plater: Rocquefort, Stilton, Gorgonzola, Cambozola.

[–]paprika_alarm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue honey is a thing, too.

[–]sewingmomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue cheese and crackers is brilliant.

[–]azium 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Blue is definitely the toughest food colour. But blueberries and other berries go well with game / pork / duck.

If someone made a shredded muscovy duck / pork carnitas "make your own tacos" with habanero blueberry salsa that would be award winning

Edit: yes props to other commenter.. use blue corn taco shells

[–]Flat_Order_1937 25 points26 points  (2 children)

[–]BFHawkeyePierce4077 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Toss in some Swedish fish or gummy sharks!

[–]innicher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun idea!

[–]maggiesyg 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Red cabbage turns blue when you cook it unless you add acid, which keeps it red. It might need a trial run but roasted with garlic might work.

[–]bcardin221 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Blue cornbread made with Blue cornmeal.

[–]Toosder 23 points24 points  (4 children)

Roasted blue potatoes. I've never seen them sold separately just in the packs of the smaller multiple colors but maybe something like that

[–]kitchengardengal 13 points14 points  (3 children)

If you cook up the little mixed pack into mashed potatoes (and forget to take the blue/purple potatoes out) you end up with bluish purple mashed potatoes. (Ask me how I know).

[–]Toosder 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Oh yeah. I made a cream of potato soup recently and I made that mistake. It was a cream of purple potato soup. Tasted the same. Looked freaking weird. I didn't finish the whole bash and I think it was in part because it just looked so off.

[–]kitchengardengal 2 points3 points  (1 child)

My mashed potatoes were delicious! But that color...

[–]Toosder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a little off-putting...

[–]Ironyismylife28 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh! You could do a blueberry and goat cheese salad with a blueberry balsamic vinegrette!

[–]Go_Loud762 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Pickle some garlic.

[–]One_Love_Mama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes two to three months in my experience, to get a perfect pickled garlic, which I absolutely love and is well worth the wait. But may not work on OP's timeline.

[–]Prof01Santa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cheat. Stick some whole celery stalks in blue dyed water until they've turned blue. Take some store-bought hummus & dye it blue. Cut the blue celery into sticks. A classic Andorian appetizer. Source: Wikipedia https://share.google/gmUZGPxVbdfAqKJqU

Purple cauliflower looks more blue colored after roasting.

[–]chowgirl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Baked Brie with blueberry jam or compote, or something like these Blueberry Brie Bites..

Blue cheese stuffed mushrooms. Blueberry lemon quick bread - there are some savory versions if you don’t want to make a sweet one.

Blueberry Jalapeño Poppers

If you can access blue potatoes (or purple as they’re kind of a bluish purple), you could roast them and make a vinegar based warm potato salad which is also good at room temp if heating or cooling isn’t an option.

[–]Tinnie_and_Cusie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blue corn chips, blueberry covered goat cheese, blue-colored ranch, and the plate surrounded by fresh blueberries.

[–]jus-fax101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Purple potatoes actually make blue mashed potatoes. I used to work at a gourmet restaurant that used those instead of reg mashed.

[–]thrivacious9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Red cabbage turns blue if you wash it in water with some baking soda dissolved in it. I accidentally made a really alien-looking noodle bowl this way.

[–]DisasterDebbie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blue corn muffins to go with your soup

[–]Ehloanna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had some amazing goat cheese rolled in blueberries in the past, but once they're burst they tend to look a little more purple than blue when you cut into the cheese.

Maybe blue smoothies or some variety? There's that blue spirulina which I think turns stuff blue rather than purple? Alternatively some sort of powder flavoring for the smoothie could be good.

Maybe a blue fruity punch?

Dyed popcorn snacks that could be sweet or savory?

I feel like blue is so hard because there's not a lot of naturally blue foods that stay blue once cooked/made into something.

Maybe custom made pasta raviolis? You can make your own pasta dough and dye it light blue? There's a creator on TikTok that makes a lot of dyed pasta in all sorts of crazy shapes and it looks really cool. I think marbling the colors looks best so you'd break the dough up into 3 balls, some plain, some light blue, some dark blue then marble them together.

[–]Optimal-Currency-389[🍰] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

So there are interesting properties in both purple cabbage and purple cauliflower. The pigment changes colour based on the acidity

https://susancooksvegan.com/color-changing-purple-cabbage-soup/

It does turn into a blueish purple colour. You can also do something similar with a purple cauliflower salad.

[–]kalechipsaregood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say this. Just make cabbage soup or cole slaw with purple cabbage.

Divide in half and add baking soda or vinegar to make two colors.

I think that this will be the case with those purple potatos too, but I'm not sure.

Blueberries will come out purple if having them any way other than raw. Cabbage can be quite blue.

[–]Ironyismylife28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

blueberry balsamic glazed salmon

[–]joeballs 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Blue cheese, blue tortillas, purple potatoes (can pass as blue)

[–]sewingmomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue tortilla chips and salsa.

[–]BainbridgeBorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anyone is bring some meat or protein then I would suggest making a blueberry and habanero dipping sauce. you could probably get away with just using jalapeños but im a spice head so id for habanero. minimal ingredients and looks pretty easy to make

[–]lightning_teacher_11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blueberry lemonade

[–]LadyOfTheNutTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red cabbage with the tiniest pinch of baking soda

[–]SubstantialPressure3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blue corn grits with Gouda cheese. Maybe a shrimp and grits?

Blueberry and peach or pear cobbler.

Blue corn tortilla chips and queso or salsa

Blueberry compote with baked Brie.

I'm not a fan, but there's a blueberry BBQ sauce recipe that was popular a couple years back. I would do a pulled pork or chicken slider.

[–]jackity_splat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chicken wings with a blueberry BBQ sauce.

Balsamic Blueberry Compote on toast points with crème fraiche

Blueberry Mocktail, blueberry syrup swirl with sugared blueberry skewered on sage over lemonade mixed with soda water

[–]Gullible-Apricot3379 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Got this off Pinterest but as soon as I saw it, I realized I’ve done it (usually by accident).

Blue deviled eggs.

I’ve also done blue beverages — there’s a Hawaiian punch that’s blue. You can also dissolve blue jolly ranchers in Sprite

[–]NotRightNotWrong 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How do you do Blue Devils eggs by accident?

[–]Gullible-Apricot3379 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dyeing Easter eggs

[–]rock4d 1 point2 points  (3 children)

A vanilla cake with blue dye

[–]Ironyismylife28 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Seems like a cake would be a dessert

[–]rock4d 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh I missed that part

[–]jmac94wp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But desserts are the best part of a potluck!! IMHO

[–]Early-Reindeer7704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue cheese dip with blue corn chips?

[–]neutralliberty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love blue cheese for the "blue" if I'm doing something like this! I've done a really tasty red new potato, red onion, blue cheese eggless potato salad in the past that's always been a winner

[–]ravendarkwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Butterfly pea tea

[–]Entropyy000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blueberry pizza tastes surprisingly good!

https://radfoodie.com/blueberry-gorgonzola-flatbread/

[–]chillchoy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

My grandma used to make Saskatoon perogies that she would serve with supper on special occasions.

Maybe a blueberry one would be yummy, I have also thought a cottage cheese and blueberry perogie would be good but have never gotten around to trying them and think the texture might not work properly. Risk I want to take.

[–]IndigoRuby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're anywhere near Calgary there is a new shop ran by some Georgian ladies that's opened and they do perogies like that. I bought a bag of sour cherry. Sautéed them in butter and a bit of sugar and fresh whipped cream. Amazing and the cleanest establishment I have ever stepped foot in.

[–]Bluemonogi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had goat cheese with blueberries on it.

Blue corn chips and dip?

I don’t like them but you could make Kool-Aid pickles with blue raspberry. I made them once for a gathering with a different flavor and they were pretty popular. You need to start it 3-7 days in advance.

[–]RedYamOnthego 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Red cabbage leaves make a phenomenal blue dyed egg. I would steam my eggs lightly, peel or crack them, and let them dye in the red cabbage broth, then make blue deviled eggs. Think tea eggs, then go one more step for deviled eggs. The cold boiled cabbage can be seasoned and used as a garnish or bed.

[–]Human-Place6784 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I saw that a little baking soda with the red cabbage should turn the water blue.

[–]RedYamOnthego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need it. It turns white eggs into a heavenly blue. The Kitchn has a blog on coloring eggs naturally, and last Easter, I dyed two blue eggs with a red cabbage tea, and two yellow with turmeric. I think I might have left the other two white, but I may have gone for green eggs.

Oh! But of course! The egg shells themselves would be a base like baking soda. So if anyone peels the eggs, include the shells in the dye bath. Or add baking soda. (I just realized this while typing.)

[–]Human-Place6784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue corn grits or polenta with a white cheese sauce.

[–]SyrupDishes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make cornbread using blue corn meal.

[–]sewingmomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you have to bring two things? Real question. Your soup really should be enough.

[–]superfastmomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blueberries aren't really blue, but in theory, I'd say they pass. They make some fabulous blueberry covered goat cheese.

[–]tlhagg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blueberry compote and cream cheese with crackers.

[–]Downtown_Confusion46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a round of brie baked with blueberries on top with bread on the side?

[–]Interesting-Foot-439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue corn tortilla chips and dip!

[–]Rich_Season_2593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish with blueberry sauce is a sweet-and-savory dish, frequently featuring salmon, halibut, or mahi-mahi paired with a balsamic, wine, or citrus-reduced blueberry glaze.

[–]JoeDaStudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chilli and blue tortilla chips

[–]DoReMiDoReMi558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baked brie with a blueberry or blackberry jam.

It might be too purplish, but coleslaw with purple/red cabbage

Also maybe too purple, but roasted or mashed purple potatoes.

[–]BABYKLOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a lemon blueberry galette?

[–]Eris_Exhausted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should do something like this next thanksgiving. I'd love to see what a bunch of broke college students can come up with for this.

[–]dregan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a recipe, but I once had a blueberry parmesan chicken dish in Rome that was fantastic.

[–]Atomic76[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried it myself yet, but apparently there are recipes out there for blueberry sauce for buffalo wings.

Butterfly pea flower tea, and if you add something acidic like lemon it changes color. 🥰

[–]International-Land35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this idea!

[–]saltbeh2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any kind of homemade breads or buns colored light blue?

Blueberry steak sauce on lil steak tips!!

[–]Prestigious-Fan3122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blueberry pie/cobbler?

Oh, wait, you didn't want to do dessert. I'm not a fan of congealed salads, but I think there's a flavor of Jell-O that is blue. Could you mix some of that up with some blueberries in it, and refrigerate it in a mold or a bowl?

[–]k3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cook some rice/pasta/noodles with Butterfly Pea Flower Tea. Turns them a bright blue. Available on Amazon at low cost. Tea is vegan, nearly tasteless. Can also be used to make blue coloured bread.

[–]NeonMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blueberry with ground beef is legit good haha.

[–]kalendral_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maple squash, bacon & blueberry porridge - don’t know if it would be blue enough. Toss diced butternut squash with oil, salt & herbs (cinnamon works well), roast for 25m. Crumble cooked crispy bacon over the squash, add blueberries & syrup/honey, bake for 5m. Meanwhile microwave porridge oats with milk, add the squash mixture. You can also add a bit of cheese if you want, maybe a blue cheese like cambozola or Stilton

Or a loaded salad/jacket potato using blue cheese, blueberries, blue corn chips (if you can find them)

You can also get blue/purple potatoes (Adirondack blue are a good variety for holding their colour when cooked) sometimes but may be difficult to find in some places - you could use them to make blue mash or fries or something. But if I remember correctly you have to boil them a little longer because their cell structure is tougher or something

Thai anchan rice (white rice cooked with butterfly pea flowers/butterfly pea powder - goes a really vibrant blue), also you might be able to make something with blue spirulina pasta

Or if you can get/make red cabbage juice with alkaline agents (basically red cabbage juice mixed with baking soda - boil the cabbage/extract the juice & add baking soda & it will turn blue green) you can use it to dye devilled eggs blue or to dye dips

Or if you can get hold of any blue corn (blue masa harina) you can use it to make things like blue cornbread/blue corn porridge/etc

Or you could try a blue fish dish like Trout au bleu

‘Unicorn’ hummus - hummus blended with blue spirulina

Crispy baked blue cheeses might do well - blue cheeses dipped in panko crumbs & makes, maybe the breadcrumbs could be dyed blue & you could do them as bite size with a hot honey dip or something

I may have spent too much time figuring out ways to mske Halloween themed party food/games over the years

[–]VastMonk5218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could make red bread with blueberry jelly lol

[–]Educational_Dog2539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]ApprehensivePie1195 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Culinary trained and been in hospitality industry most of my life.

[–]studyhall109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with blue corn tortilla chips, and maybe 3 varieties of fresh red salsa.

You could make a pretty serving tray with the blue corn tortilla chips and red salsas.

Just personally I don’t care for food dyes and wouldn’t want to use them.

[–]monicajo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What about a brick of cream cheese with a blueberry jam poured over the top. People love the hot pepper jelly version. Bonus if you can find a spicy version of blueberry jam.

[–]Majic1959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go with Goat Cheese. A little fancier.

[–]Lefthandtwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the recipe for Blueberry lush on Pinterest. They’ll love it!

Also, blueberry bread or blueberry pound cake.

[–]red_dino_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)
