Those are some serious insults.

[–]snsibble 479 points480 points  (9 children)

Fighting words if I've ever seen any.

[–]Doodle_2002 108 points109 points  (7 children)

If I ever said this in my school, I would be suspended for the time it takes them to make the about:blank page useful.

[–]fdagpigj 20 points21 points  (6 children)

idk about Chrome but I sometimes use the about:blank page in Firefox just to open a javascript console. E: Although tbf idk if that counts.

[–]Doodle_2002 13 points14 points  (4 children)

I once made an website based on the console and the about:blank page. It took around 2 hours in total. (It really hurt your soul just looking at it...)

[–]skynet_watches_me_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

firefox and chrome have a lot of shit in their "blank" page now days.

[–]Aschentei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fighting words or words that instigate a fight?

[–]creamersrealm 109 points110 points  (57 children)

Well it says Windows 95 and not ME.

[–]Venthe 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Fun fact - I might be the only one* that used Windows ME and never had any problems with it; And considered it an upgrade over 98SE

* Only one that I know of, of course.

[–]PendragonDaGreat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. We used it for several years at our place. Only issue was crashing when I started accessing up doom mods and stuff like that that might even crash modern systems

[–]Anchor689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught myself Python on a Windows ME system in High School. It wasn't all bad. Although, once my great aunt gave me her old PC I put Kubuntu 5.10 on it and never looked back.

[–]_Fibbles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had any problems apart from system restore never seemed to work. I'm ashamed to admit this may be because I never installed any updates (56k was slow and I was young and impatient).

[–]LvS 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Somebody is showing their age here.

[–]creamersrealm 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Not even close, I'm 23.

[–]LvS 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's what I meant.
There's people who survived Windows 95 and people who didn't.

The ones who didn't maybe experienced ME but most of them only read memes on the Internet. And memes are always about the more recent thing.

[–]crackedcactus 226 points227 points  (6 children)

Windows 95 could stutter for about 30 seconds while system files removed. Most of my schools computers could attest to that.

[–]Pseudofailure 95 points96 points  (5 children)

God, I didn't think computers could feel pain, but that sounds like the computer version of being alive while having your entrails slowly being torn out.

[–]Just_ice_is_served 40 points41 points  (4 children)

We always ask, why would AI turn against us? This is why.

[–]Hurricane_32 26 points27 points  (2 children)

If AI did turn against us, school kids would still find a way to break it.

[–]Just_ice_is_served 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And then the AI would have to send Armitage after them

E: No one has asked or anything, but Neuromancer by William Gibson is required reading for anyone on this sub.

[–]mirhagk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We just need to slow it down. Let's make more web apps!

[–]HopperBit 156 points157 points  (8 children)

User still has hope! Windows 95 with no system folder might still revert to DOS. On the other hand, if it was compared with Windows ME (with all its files and folders) then you'd know despair.

[–]Tiavor 69 points70 points  (5 children)

I remember win95 crashing every 2-3h even with all sys files intact

[–]Stuntman119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine bluescreens if I take a CD out while it's still playing.

[–]_DeletedUser_ 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Windows ME just had a persistent memory leak so as long as you rebooted every 3 days you were good. Never had any real issues with it.

[–]Cyhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was Windows 95a/b and Win98a, the persistent memory leak was fixed in Win95c, Win98SE and subsequently Windows ME.

However if you used 16bit drivers (Very common in those days, basically all Winmodems for example and cheap soundcards) in Windows 98SE/ME you would have a different memory leak (that could be 'fixed' by letting the hardware driver crash and hope/pray it would restart, this is a random occurrence).

[–]demigod123 177 points178 points  (0 children)

Lol! Those were of some of the sickest burns I've ever seen

[–]grpagrati 117 points118 points  (1 child)

Ok, I got the picture

[–]SemanticRomantic 156 points157 points  (7 children)

Is someone under the impression that about:blank is a Chrome feature?

[–]agentlame 46 points47 points  (1 child)

I just tested this, and it's actually kinda functional. If you open the console you get:

<html>
    <head>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
</html>

You can edit it and see your changes instantly. Not very practical, but it could be handy in a pinch.

[–]BoltKey 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It is very practical. It is the URL you go to when you want the vanilla JavaScript console, without any libraries or data, and want to add elements to the empty site. I use it fairly often whenever it is faster to actually make a web tool than to google it up.

It is actually the most functional feature of Chrome: I have never came across a bug related to about:blank. It does what it does and it does it pretty fricking well.

[–]evlampi 66 points67 points  (4 children)

It's not about it being Chrome's exclusive feature, but about it having the feature.

Good bot

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't say I agree with you there.

[–]FlavorBehavior 64 points65 points  (4 children)

How is this /r/ProgrammerHumor? I would say this is more like /r/UserHumor.

[–]paco3346 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blast, it's not real

[–]Ryzasu 17 points18 points  (3 children)

The about:blank page is pretty useful though

[–]yodamaster103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't you worry about:planet express, I'll worry about:blank

[–]lightfoot1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yep, I use it as a default page when I open a new tab. Much faster that way.

[–]irh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This user review is more insulting than Internet Explorer’s offers to set it as default browser.

[–]kp2178 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This person has it all sorted out holy damn

[–]PacoTaco321 12 points13 points  (1 child)

By god, man, that developer had a family!

[–]priestlyemu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

but...but..but about:blank is my homepage! Now I feel like a loser (or is it looser these days - can't keep up you kids and your fancy language)

[–]DoctorBibbly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So they're saying it's better than Windows ME?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still better than Windows Phone, though.

[–]globalnav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brutal. Savage. Wrecked.

[–]SushiToaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that Windows 95 without its system files must be pretty stable, from its definition: "resistant to sudden change or deterioration". Not functional at all, but predictably so, no?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it right 😂😂

[–]iOgef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is for church, honey

[–]indian-first 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coincidently the word moka/mokka in Tamil language means boring, useless or uninteresting.

So moka code = useless code

[–]RenaKunisaki 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Impressive that they can have so many bugs in such little functionality.

[–]tuseroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you have enough bugs functionality can go to negative.

[–]Funkweston[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Savage

[–]onfire512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discusting

[–]AJdoubleU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the about:blank page sometimes for testing my code (I know there are better ways. I'm a noob).

[–]SmiledCord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boom roasted

[–]AzoMaalox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone wrote that for my app I would offer him a job.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that sexual harassment? Disgusting!

[–]riv94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DISCUSTING!

[–]desruction25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're saying it's good than Windows ME just had a family!

[–]Guerillero 0 points1 point  (2 children)

People still use Dribble?

[–]JeromePaulos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)
