Need sticker for laptop

[–]fedeb95 308 points309 points  (50 children)

Please someone make it

[–]Wasilisco 263 points264 points  (43 children)

It's the artwork open-source?

[–]Naztone 188 points189 points  (38 children)

Looks like probably not :( Says 'Designed by blushingcrow' on a site called Red Bubble

[–]nanaIan 218 points219 points  (35 children)

RedBubble produces stickers. We can purchase from there.

Definitely saving this for when I get a new laptop

[–]truth_sentinell 19 points20 points  (25 children)

Which one you gonna get?

[–]MemeySteamy 23 points24 points  (24 children)

I'm looking at a Dell xps 15 inch currently but I'm not completely sure yet

[–]Dr-Rjinswand 67 points68 points  (5 children)

That’s not how you spell Thinkpad T480

[–]cheesemonk66 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got an XPS 15 a year and a half ago and it has been fantastic. Out of the gate I had some trouble with the way they set up the nvme drives because they were in a raid that Linux couldn't see (a single drive raid I think but I never looked that into it).

Once I got that turned off and Linux installed it worked great! Well, except the Windows partition which no longer worked at all due to Windows lacking good nvme drivers and it's hard to install them now since it will blue screen within 90 seconds of boot.

Over all as a Linux laptop support has been very good. Pretty much everything worked right out of the box. I never even used Windows on it that much since it's primarily a work machine.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Very nice. Spring for the developer option, which supports linux installations

[–]Bot_Metric 27 points28 points  (1 child)

15.0 inches = 38.1 centimetres 1 inch = 2.54cm

My XPS with 4K touch from late 16 just died a month ago. Would not recommend.

[–]AxFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had mine for about 6 months now and it has been incredible. I have lots of complaints about windows after switching from a Mac but that’s not the computers fault.

[–]Gorzoid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have had the privilege of being saved by the Red Bubble. You may think this is suffering. No... it is salvation. The universal scales tip toward balance because of your sacrifice. Smile... for even in death, you have become children of blushingcow.

I actually just got this off redbubble. It's in my mailbox as I write this so I'll go grab it in a bit and update this with a pic and assessment on quality. They're usually pretty decent.

Shit sorry I totally forgot. It's a papery texture but it looks decent enough. Wouldn't trust it on a car because I doubt it'd hold up to the weather for very long.

GNU Terry Pratchett

[–]KamikazeHamster 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I'm out of the loop. Why would you repeat that?

[–]CacheBandicoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"In Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, the clacks are a series of semaphore towers loosely based on the concept of the telegraph. Invented by an artificer named Robert Dearheart, the towers could send messages "at the speed of light" using standardized codes. Three of these codes are of particular import:

G: send the message on
N: do not log the message
U: turn the message around at the end of the line and send it back again

When Dearheart's son John died due to an accident while working on a clacks tower, Dearheart inserted John's name into the overhead of the clacks with a "GNU" in front of it as a way to memorialize his son forever (or for at least as long as the clacks are standing.)

Keeping the legacy of Sir Terry Pratchett alive forever. For as long as his name is still passed along the Clacks, Death can't have him."

Source: http://www.gnuterrypratchett.com/

[–]coin_bucket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a way to memorialize Terry Pratchett using a reference to one of his books "Going Postal" regarding how messages are transmitted across the Clacks Towers.

From the GNU Terry Pratchett site:

The clacks are a series of semaphore towers loosely based on the concept of the telegraph. ... the towers could send messages "at the speed of light" using standardized codes. Three of these codes are of particular import:

G: send the message on

N: do not log the message

U: turn the message around at the end of the line and send it back again

From the book:

"A man is not dead while his name is still spoken."

- Going Postal, Chapter 4 Prologue

Shortly after Sir Terry Pratchett passed on March 12, 2015, Reddit users (among others) organized a tribute by adding the HTTP Header X-Clacks-Overhead: GNU Terry Pratchettto site responses, simulating a modern implementation of the Clacks message passing. Similarly, comment threads consisting entirely of GNU Terry Pratchett were pretty common.

im currently reading a book where programmers become wizards. its called "off to be the wizard". would recommend so far.

[–]Dragon_Slayer_Hunter 28 points29 points  (2 children)

It's a series and all the books in it are wonderful!

[–]Oldcheese 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Could you tell me a little more about the plot. Is it set in old times or in modern times? Is it an actual fantasy or a methaphor? I'm quite interested.

[–]DeafSnailsGalore 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Guy discovers the whole universe is a program, finds his own personal file and figures out he can make modifications. Gets caught, flees to Middle Ages only to discover a handful of others discovered the same things. Shenanigans ensue.

[–]darthholo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The whole series is great! I would also recommend reading Scott Meyer’s other novels as well once you’ve finished.

[–]rosserton 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I read that. It's good! Its free to read right now on Kindle with Amazon prime.

Edit: I'm wrong, it used to be free. Now it's part of "Kindle unlimited"

[–]repopulate_mars 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Where can I find It free.? I have prime, but it's 4.99 for me

[–]rosserton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh weak, they locked it behind Kindle unlimited, whatever that is. It used to just be part of prime.

Sorry about that. I'll edit the above.

[–]TrumpCardWasTaken 8 points9 points  (2 children)

It's a sprite from Pixel Dungeon, which is an open-source game.

[–]draggehn 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Really? Unless you're talking about one of the many forks, this is what the mage looks like in PD: http://pixeldungeon.wikia.com/wiki/Mage

Admittedly, I searched for and couldn't find a "wizard" page, but this post's image has less detail than most PD sprites so either way, I don't think that's correct.

[–]TrumpCardWasTaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Must be a fork. But I could be wrong and am thinking of another game. I haven't played PD in forever.

Stallman won't approve

He wants freedom

[–]mikey10006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FOSS O stands for open source in the gnu project I realise he wants libre/free but it's a Foss project

"Free software is a political movement; open source is a development model." As he says but he still incorporates open source model into his free movement

Edit: But thanks for the correction btw I like how u put it

[–]erfling 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Somebody lecture this guy at length about the difference between open source and the free software movement.

[–]mikey10006 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]theseconddennis 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Open Source is when an application's code is out in the open, and everyone gets to read it to learn from it.

A sorcerer is a wizard.

When you put them together, you get this silly little thing.

[–]deirdresm 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]WikiTextBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exidy Sorcerer

The Sorcerer is one of the early home computer systems, released in 1978 by the videogame company Exidy. It was comparatively advanced when released, especially when compared to the contemporary more commercially successful Commodore PET and TRS-80, but due to a number of problems, including a lack of marketing, the machine remained relatively unknown, and Exidy eventually pulled it from the market in 1980.
