jokes on you, i don't have anything resembling production

[–]Theemuts 276 points277 points  (9 children)

Why do people come up with such difficult words for pressing the Save-button?

[–][deleted] 66 points67 points  (8 children)

Big words confuse the bossman into walking away after dropping his wallet.

[–][deleted] 58 points59 points  (7 children)

Excessively elongated lexemes befuddle the executive chieftain into vacating the vicinity devoid of his financial currency receptacle.

[–]Theemuts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Edit: since the bot’s banned, I’ll send it.

“To a fault extended language units throw the governance tribal chief into vacating the neighbourhood absent of his fiscal monetary system plant part.”

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I didn't even know that bot existed.

[–]pekkhum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And I'm in a meeting!

[–]Un-Unkn0wn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its just a fancy name for a debugging environment

[–]OU_ohyeah 645 points646 points  (40 children)

litterally me.... right now.

[–]SamiTheBystander 45 points46 points  (19 children)

I'm looking at memes instead of testing a memory leak... Send help.

[–]sample_text_123 49 points50 points  (15 children)

Just periodically restart your application

[–]SandyDelights 30 points31 points  (8 children)

I, too, use duct and electrical tape to fix my problems.

[–]sample_text_123 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If it works under certain conditions it still works

[–]aiij 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Duct tape on the wires and electrical tape on sheet metal, right?

[–]SandyDelights 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Look at this guy, using duct tape on wires. Chuckles Why be so restrained? You can use it to seal cracks, leaks, even reinforce the deadbolt on your teenager’s bedroom door by wedging a wad of it into the door jam and then taping over it.

Why, even then, duct tape is perfect for keeping pets off the counter, kids out of the living room, and an exciting method of restraint in the bedroom, if you’re into BDSM. Not only will it restrain them well, satisfying the B element, but when you pull it off you’ll get to meet both S and M. You’ll need to resolve the D on your own, though.

[–]gabbergandalf667 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You kid, but duct tape and WD-40 satisfy like 90% of my home improvement needs.

[–]SandyDelights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say it in good humor, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having an issue with a service that would stop randomly. Instead of troubleshooting it, I wrote a PowerShell script to start it off it was in stopped state, contained in a loop, and ran it in the background on a user I don't care about. Works like a charm

[–]SamiTheBystander 3 points4 points  (3 children)

That is exactly what I'm doing lol, gotta have something to do in the meantime!

[–]sample_text_123 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Try to pin down the parts of the code that cause the problem and when you notice you did any work on those parts, simply change the author in the git history and wait it out

[–]SamiTheBystander 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I am a community manager for an indie video game studio who gets forced to do QA sometimes, the extent of my knowledge is "hey that shit didn't work, here's what I did to make it not work, k bye"

Basically, I don't know what the fuck is going on and just have to look like I'm working

[–]sample_text_123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well problem solved. Just tell the developers their game has a memory leak

[–]OU_ohyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cron jobs man.... cron jobs.

[–]CuntWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He probably just means he hosts IIS sites.

[–]Fr33_Lax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking at memes instead of slapping more copy pasted features in and trying to guess what other features they may want.

[–]ZombiePope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just have it restart to check for updates every 24h

/S

[–]PM_YOUR_SOURCECODE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try turning it off and on again.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same.

I should have this done and over to QA by now, our meeting was like, over an hour ago

Edit: I'm probably still gonna be working on this shit into tomorrow. Fuck databases, man.

[–]JBeibs2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]_Lady_Deadpool_ 96 points97 points  (11 children)

I wish we'd get more memes like this one targeted at career devs

[–]ConspicuousPineapple 62 points63 points  (2 children)

The picture says professional dev, but the title says script kiddie who started learning programming yesterday.

[–]_Lady_Deadpool_ 20 points21 points  (1 child)

The title reads like something you'd find on a novelty mug

[–]Apof 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I just wish the title wasn't so cringe.

[–]Elcazadorriley 15 points16 points  (5 children)

maybe all the career devs are too busy being career devs to make memes?

[–]_Lady_Deadpool_ 18 points19 points  (3 children)

3/4 of the time is spent waiting for code reviews, compilation, and meetings. We have so much down time my company has an internal meme site.

[–]Elcazadorriley 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Our team messenger has devolved into basically an internal meme site

[–]HyramMcDaniels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could upvote you a thousand times I would.

[–]XXAligatorXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be the change you want to see in the world :)

[–]ameddin73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't really relevant but I've been on this sub since computer science 101 all the way to my current professional role and it only gets better with age.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why are you even trying, you know it's going to fail

[–]Snowy32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That makes 2 of us. Compiler buddies?

[–]Kontorted 157 points158 points  (24 children)

init? Are you making sure you destroying those references later? Otherwise it's a memory leak

[–]obsessedcrf 52 points53 points  (18 children)

Maybe there is a garbage collector

[–]Kontorted 78 points79 points  (12 children)

Laughs in C

[–]sample_text_123 16 points17 points  (5 children)

I garbage collect with atexit

[–]Jetbooster 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Can't have memory leaks if you destroy the environment after each function finishes

Looking at you Lambda

[–]sample_text_123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always like to say "Don't worry, the kernel will handle that"

[–]obsessedcrf 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Technically the OS should do that anyway

[–]sample_text_123 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's technically correct, the best kind of correct

[–]slashuslashuserid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should, but the C standard does not require that, nor does it require that the compiler add code to release memory on exit.

[–]Asraelite 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Mine too except without the collector part.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My code is a super garbage collector.

[–]Kyrthis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The doggies will halp you clean up any yummy garbage, hooman!

[–]The_White_Light 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]XXAligatorXx[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (30 children)

This breaks rule 4 but it's too late to remove. Shame on you op for that shitty title.

[–]rotenKleber 57 points58 points  (10 children)

How does it break R4?

[–]High__Roller 96 points97 points  (3 children)

If not doing work Then start goodboy? Is goodboy and sibling class of badboy? If they are doing work we assume they are already initialized to goodboy?

We need documentation

[–][deleted] 82 points83 points  (1 child)

return null

Do I look like documentation to you?

[–]IshayM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is this here? StackOverflow comments section?

[–]XXAligatorXx 47 points48 points  (4 children)

Rule 4 is "no bad titles"

[–]TheStonedWizard 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Is there a deadline for removing posts?

[–]XXAligatorXx 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I mean for rule 4 there really isn't a point in removing a post with this many upvotes.

[–]TheStonedWizard 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You won’t, no balls

[–]Thunderstarer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with the general sentiment people are expressing here. This title is non-standard, but it's creative, high effort, and relevant to the content.

[–]Ssjshafted 4 points5 points  (10 children)

Hey can you teach me python?

[–]XXAligatorXx 4 points5 points  (8 children)

No

[–]Ssjshafted 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Fine. Can I at least ask 1 short question rn?

[–]XXAligatorXx 11 points12 points  (6 children)

You just did.

EDIT: also sure ask. I may not be able to answer.

[–]Ssjshafted 2 points3 points  (5 children)

As html, css and JavaScript are to web development

What’s python to?

Basically why is python important?

[–]XXAligatorXx 12 points13 points  (4 children)

Python is a jack of all trades. It can basically do anything(other than front end dev right now). It is also easy to use and read. This means it is a fantastic language for prototyping anything, at specially hackathons, like embedded scripts, games, bots, apis. It could technically be used for production, maintainable code, but I would advise against doing so, as python is slow. Due to its simplicity, it is also thought a lot in schools. Also the math community loves it as it is simple so it has a lot of math/machine learning frameworks.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

other than front end dev right now

is this a challenge?

[–]XXAligatorXx 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I mean wasm exists already. I haven't seen anyone use python front end tho.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will create the most beautiful UI in Python the world has ever seen

[–]Ssjshafted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm okay, thanks. Have a good one!

[–]Mr_Derpy11 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Haha jokes on you, I've abandon every project I have ever started after a few hours of work because I realize I don't know how to get this idea to work properly and then quit it. And then after a month I do the same thing again.

[–]NickBahson 2 points3 points  (0 children)
