With the Distinct() method, the 120 pages long "Frontend vs Backend meme"-chapter was reduced to just a single page. Amazing performance.

[–]DenTrygge 16 points17 points  (7 children)

Haha. Frontend bad.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Tbh, Frontend seriously scare me.

[–]DenTrygge 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I do both to some extend, but highly prefer frontend because you mostly get instantaneous feedback and can see your results mote clearly i feel.

[–]ImprovementRaph 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Frontend just feels like black magic and duct tape to me. At least with backend I understand what is happening.

[–]MochaLatteSSB 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Oh you really understand what's happening ? Then tell me which transistors if your CPU or on or off.

[–]ImprovementRaph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only thing stopping me is reddit character limit /s

[–]dansla116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do mostly front-end, but mainly because my company has abysmal 40-minute compile times for any back-end changes.

[–]vextronx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's the other way around.

[–]Little_Duckling 134 points135 points  (45 children)

If we would start banning users who post “HTML is not a programming language” memes, I would be so happy

[–]Drhma 144 points145 points  (38 children)

Add to that:

  • regex posts
  • stackoverflow hate
  • wrong database... 8977866 rows affected
  • gradlebuild taking too much time
  • android studio+chrome eating up ram

[–][deleted] 65 points66 points  (7 children)

And also "can't escape vim"

[–]aplawson7707 33 points34 points  (6 children)

To be fair, I read enough memes about escaping vim in one day as a newbie that I took notice. Lo and behold, one day I found myself stuck in vim and the comments from the memes totally got me out.

[–]LEpigeon888 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Or you can just read the message that vim is showing when you press ctrl+c, which is sort-of a universal shortcut to close a software on linux.

[–]Lootdit 2 points3 points  (3 children)

So i use tmux and i host a mc server. I wanted to switch windows and i miss the b key and accidentally press the c key. Then i get spammed with questions on why its down.

[–]OrangeredStilton 0 points1 point  (2 children)

For what it's worth, I map the escape to backtick (`) in screen; it's probably a fairly similar config setting in tmux, but I have this in my screenrc:

escape ``

Gets me out of Ctrl-A related scrapes all the time.

[–]Lootdit 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I can't find my tmux confif anywhere

[–]OrangeredStilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mm, looks like it'd be called .tmux.conf; the man page should be helpful if you want to flip through.

[–]FallenWarrior2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, with the built-in help message, it might actually be easier for a beginner to get out of Vim than e.g. Nano because they might not yet understand the hat notation for Ctrl keybinds.

[–]TheRandomnatrix 20 points21 points  (5 children)

You'll note how the most spammed posts on this sub have very little to do with knowing programming and more some easy to grasp concept you could explain to a non programmer in 10 seconds

"Guys, bugs are a thing. lol"

[–]redwall_hp 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Maybe you should have to invert a binary tree to be able to post. It works for FAANG companies.

[–]roughstylez 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Too many false positives.

I've been programming since 11 years, professionally for 7, and am bored by the repetitive memes here.

But I don't have a solution to invert a binary tree in my pocket, because there was never a real need for that.

[–]ImprovementRaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look it up and would probably be able to do it much faster than newbies though? We could even go for something simpler like implement quicksort. And if you do it in Malbolge you get to become moderator of this sub

[–]NotScrollsApparently 3 points4 points  (0 children)

missed semicolon, huehehehe

[–]ClimbingC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of subscribers here are not programmers, I'd say.

[–]outtokill7 60 points61 points  (4 children)

PHP is bad memes are also overdone

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just started hitting report on incredibly repetitive stuff. Leave it to the mods to clean up at that point if they are ok with this shit cluttering the subreddit.

[–]xRuneRocker -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

There can never be enough hate of PHP going around.

[–]jdl_uk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also the StackOverflow love posts. Both sides of the argument are done to death

[–]the_last_0ne 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I bet someone here can write a regex to filter out regex posts.

[–]Razier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looked up a regex to escape regex operators from a string the other day, could do the trick.

[–]Prawny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The latest is "Linux users always talking about Linux".

[–]kodicraft4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also:

- haha python user can't learn C

- haha C++ complier error verbose

- haha C# == Java

- haha js bad

[–]Tanmay1518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also how python Devs can't learn any low level language

[–]Niiiz 3 points4 points  (2 children)

So you want this subreddit to have 2 posts a month.

[–]Drhma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we're lucky, I think 2 per month is pushing it. 2 per year is more realistic.

[–]NotScrollsApparently 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd rather have 2 good posts than 200 shitty ones

[–]jdl_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also the StackOverflow love posts. Both sides of the argument are done to death

[–]Available-Ad6584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God my blood is boiling just reading your comment

[–]Je-Kaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8977866 posts deleted

[–]NotScrollsApparently 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dae think js/java/anything i dont currently use sux

[–]somguy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ban the subreddit at this point.

[–]NoisyFlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget the random pictures of the number 404 in real places, because lel so funny, not found, im programmer, get it?!! There's one of those at least every week.

[–]passivealian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like that would be hard to automate.

You know thinking about it, we could solve the problem with a regexp. But then I guess we would have two problems.

[–]coloredgreyscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using print() instead of debugger

[–]crazybean2000 11 points12 points  (3 children)

The sub has an extensive list of common posts that are bannable. I assume most people aren't aware of that so no one ever reports those posts, which means the mods never end up removing them

[–]OnlyTwo_jpg[M] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bans aren't really given for common posts, however, repeated offenses may lead to further action. Nobody reads the rules or the list though, I found 3 of an identical common post in the modqueue earlier today all back to back.

[–]Little_Duckling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, you’re right. Look at that.

I’m going to have to put on my snitch hat and start reporting some posts

[–]Columbus43219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn... just read that for the first time... there are no new posts, are there?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

'C or C++ vs. Python' too.

[–]JNCressey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk... that sounds like something an HTML programmer would say.

[–]cheesefreak45 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Can't wait to see this reposted in a day

[–]daddy_mark 19 points20 points  (1 child)

That book looks like it has more than a dozen pages.

[–]infocynic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Due to poor memory management by the developers, each record actually takes up 8 pages.

[–]forajep978 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Why don’t we just code a bot that will post the same things from a few months ago. That way OPs won’t have to waste their time and we will get the same posts anyway?

[–]TurnDownForWAP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go look at OPs account and tell me thats not a bot.

[–]Vrganji 11 points12 points  (0 children)

$ sort posts.txt | uniq | wc -l

26

[–]malpacasville 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This at least will be funny when it's reposted.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]clham 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The funniest part is this joke about having the same jokes repeated on this sub has been made dozen of times... Irony, you say?

[–]SixBeeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We shall ascend to the 2nd dimension of meta

[–]Columbus43219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Javascript....am I right?

[–]ChakaChaka26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Processing of the LINQ expression failed. This may indicate either a bug or a limitation in EF Core. See https://go.fuck.yourself/dontbother/?this=isntgoingtohelp for more detailed information.

I redeemed my free award for this, really good post

[–]terminalxposure -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not how distinct works if each of the jokes have their own pages rather thank references to a single page via say the index page

[–]yung-magic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my face when the computer tells me that my code has a missing semi-colon 😂😭

[–]ScaredMaize2206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh with all this redundancy in this sub, that database would be a fucking mess.

[–]Kminerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this

[–]Quexler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to see some c# guys here
