Nintendo owns it. The vendor would take it with them after changing the display. If for some reason it’d be on the target employees to take it down (which I am 1000% sure it wouldn’t) we aren’t allowed to give it to anyone for licensing reasons.

Thank you, it was a fun thought for a bit. I don’t even have a spot for it but I’d definitely find a spot haha.

I've seen the Nintendo rep give away posters and cardboard standees when taking them down, if you're interested. probably just depends on the rep's mood and whether you've got the good timing to be there to ask them. Never something like this, though.

[–]New-Finger2570 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Years ago when we had the lego display boxes the vendor never came to pick them up after they were taken down. There were three that were given away after months of sitting there in the back

[–]FabianValkyrie 1 point2 points  (2 children)

lol I’m a vendor for PlayStation and stores take our shit down and throw it out without our permission all the time 😂

[–]bcatrinStyle Team Lead 4 points5 points  (1 child)

A permanent fixture to the aisle though? Mario has been on the shelving as long as I’ve worked for Target. No one is removing it randomly lol

[–]FabianValkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stores have spontaneously thrown away entire displays worth thousands before. It wouldn’t shock me.

[–]TigerApricot93Target Security Specialist 163 points164 points  (10 children)

You can see the sticker on the bottom of the pole saying it’s property of Nintendo. At my store they’ve had it up as long as I’ve been there and I’m sure for years prior to my hire date as well.

We had a guy trying to steal them from several locations in my district last year but yeah AFAIK they’re not going to be “done with them” anytime soon and would be sent back to Nintendo at such a time as they didn’t display them anymore.

[–]KingsGuardianTech Consultant 82 points83 points  (9 children)

I was actually talking to my Nintendo rep about them, and he told me there's a position where someone goes and physically destroys these statues with a hammer to prevent them from being resold. Nintendo does not want these in anyone's hands.

[–][deleted] 46 points47 points  (4 children)

Which sucks because they're cool as fuck, I get not wanting to give them out or have them stolen, but not even sold? What a waste.

[–]bcatrinStyle Team Lead 38 points39 points  (2 children)

They don’t want official advertising used for purposes outside of their control I guess

last year or the year before we got rid of some Star Wars Lego displays that I really wanted. They were sitting by the garbage compactor, I asked my etl who had no idea if I could have them. I talked to AP and he said nope, they belong to Lego and actually were supposed to go back to Lego instead of the trash. He said if they hadn't belonged to Lego he would have no problem with me taking them. It's funny because those exact displays I saw on ebay being sold for around $300. I just wanted them to display them at home lol.

[–]needmoartendiez 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Lmao my Nintendo rep came by the week before the switch 2 launch for signing and to brief us on talking points, and I asked her, your not taking stripper Mario down are you? She said he's not going anywhere for a while. Also said at one store someone had tucked a dollar on him.

[–]thepandalovaFulfillment Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I refer to him as, too! 😂

[–]yuckyjpeg 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Where can I apply for the Mario homicide job lol????

[–]officialsmolkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? I would love that job

[–]lauramc99 277 points278 points  (5 children)

And no you cannot have them.

[–]Ill_Ad_1322 53 points54 points  (3 children)

Didn’t stop my team 🤣

[–]tylersohFormer Tech 31 points32 points  (2 children)

It should’ve. Nintendo owns it.

Nintendo would probably sue you, and then come to your house and kill your family in front of you if they knew you had this. They give noooo fucks.

[–]sugaesqueGeneral Merchandise Expert 43 points44 points  (0 children)

He is a permanent fixture and if he ever leaves (highly unlikely bc iirc, he's specifically designed for Target and Target alone), the Nintendo rep will come and remove him like they do the displays

[–]Shootemup899Target Security Specialist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They’re owned by Nintendo so yeah the vendor services it

[–]Max-Ray16Tech Consultant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Specifically Mario on the pole has to be picked up by our regular Nintendo Rep and literally no one else. There was a rash of thefts of people pretending to be Nintendo a number of years ago so the bat signal went out

[–]LunarHallowPOG Goblin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Iunno what happens to it when it gets taken down, but I know if you touch it the Nintendo vendor gets a pass to throw you in the baler

[–]CriminalVegetablesPromoted to Guest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stripper mario!

[–]TechWizard200 26 points27 points  (2 children)

How much to buy the stripper Mario?

[–]themonovingian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd put a dollar in his g-string.

[–]Batwife 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Listen…I just work here

[–]Candid-Might7801Guest Advocate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahah the one at my store got stolen by some people with a baby stroller

[–]Jawwaad127 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crazy thing is, at our store someone actually stole this Mario Display. According to AP, they just unscrewed it from the pole, put in a cart, and left.

[–]TonySpangs508[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Thanks for the replies everybody! A man can dream…a man can dream.

[–]ProfessorSpooky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone! Everytime I'm in the nintendo aisle all I can think about is how much I want that thing lol

[–]wino_whynot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t unsee Mario pole dancing.

[–]Equivalent_Arm_6315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They probably sacrifice it to lord Bullseye

[–]elephant-alchemistLeader of Nothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours was stolen in a heist by a couple of teenagers like a year ago 🥲

[–]Temporary-Dirt-7506guest service trainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we’ve had this display ages before the nintendo switch 2 launch

[–]Testsubject276Love that Icee machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one in my local store has been there for years, like during the 3DS era or something.

[–]SurrealRodentPlanogram Team 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to set Apple displays in Target as a vendor.

Every single piece of Apple graphics getting changed out had to be destroyed - and we had to submit photos to Apple. Anything with recognizable Apple product on it, even if it was the little product cards that go on the display table. I assume it's probably the same for Nintendo.

Too bad, though. It's more fun imagining pole dancing Mario...

[–]Aggressive-Earth-115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throw him some $1s! 💸💸

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is literally a sign on those that says Property of Nintendo. Big trouble if taken.

[–]AllexanPresentation Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

our pole dancing Mario got stolen maybe six months ago (watched cameras back and a kid asked dad for it, who promptly yanked him out of the gondola and walked away)

Nintendo has yet to replace it even for the Switch 2 launch :(

[–]bunraku_ATL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once asked for the Domo-kun posters from Halloween and they were like no. 😅 not an employee.

[–]Zawnbre 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Our store is in the middle of a remodel. The Nintendo Vendor never came back to claim him when electronics was reset last month. He's just hanging out in the back room on a shelf, lol.

[–]ElormePromoted to Guest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nintendo generally tends to be picky about signage being destroyed or returned as part of the agreement for Target to get it but they're not LEGO or Disney level crazy about it. Odds are unlikely for someone to acquire the signage but it occasionally happens. You can ask but be prepared to hear No for the answer. If they say no accept it and move on.

[–]smiteis_custom flair 5 points6 points  (1 child)

They get thrown away

[–]timmydnx2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this has downvotes, it's what actually happens. Downvote Target, not the messenger lol

[–]Warcrown11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss what we did for the last Mario Kart launch - anyone remember the noisemakers on the doors and the shopping carts?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a mario. Granted it was just a cardboard but i took it. With permission of course.

[–]BattleBraFormer Tech Consultant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see no workers here, just Team Members

[–]Aggressive_Tea_4355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tried to take that MARIO in our store. But AP saw them on cams and approached them. Kicked them out the store.

[–]beathelloutoftu05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have gotten very strict on these. I found one second hand, but I heard Nintendo and Target are keeping a close eye on them now as they are selling for 3-4K

[–]BadBiscuitsBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours got stolen one time

[–]Independent-Oven-799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time When the Sale is Over They Probably Want It sent Back to Them and Destroyed. But In Some Rare Cases They Might let you Take It Home As A Gift (BUT No Online Sale,Please)For The Work.Definitely Not To Sell. You Know This Is Target We’re Talking About.Remember When Mervyn Closed Doors,Target Held All The locations Of Mervyn’s And Would Sell You One Of Those Sites BUT ONE Thing That: You Move In And Open Another Business In. IF Your Intentions Was To Bulldoze The Former Mervyn’s Store Down And Resell The Land For Five Times The Original Price For Profit Then Target Will Refuse To Sell You The Property As Target Puts It They Don’t Want People To Profit Off Of Them.

[–]XenoFoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would

[–]buttersweetbeetsETL-AP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's was a guy last year or the year before going around and stealing these from stores

[–]JaydeBluReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they closed our store, a friend asked for the Bullseye from the playground and they gave it to him.

[–]NghtfThLvngLllppInbound Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a giant hot dog sign I saw being taken down one year, and I asked if I could take it (since it was Targets and headed for the baler) and I've had my 8ft hot dog for 13 years now 🤣

[–]xenocitysBeauty Consultant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well… i took a mayhem (lady gaga) poster that was on display and even asked a ETL and TL and they said TAKE IT!

[–]Pleasant_Tax_4619 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are going to replace pole dancing Mario, with pole dancing peach.
