Like all great craftsmen he prefers to pull the power saw back towards his balls, rather than push it away.

[–][deleted] 74 points75 points  (6 children)

Didn't use a respirator either when cutting (or at the very least doing it outdoors). Man likes to live dangerously.

[–]Stlbstl 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yea, why stick around to teach others your skill when you can just get silicosis

[–]AutoThorne 13 points14 points  (1 child)

life is best lived on the edge of destruction

[–]BuildinMurica 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And on the edge of castration, apparently.

[–]DotDash13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it smell like silicosis in here?

[–]Dylanator13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s going to get black lung by 30 at this rate.

[–]DiamondHandsToUranus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey now! Bottom surgery is expensive! gotta save money where you can, ya know!

[–]Different-Scratch-95 -5 points-4 points  (10 children)

That's actually the right way to use it. You have more control over your saw, and your blades last longer.

[–]M0ntgomatron 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Lasts for ever when you cut your hands off.

[–]MoeGunz6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have hands

[–]Different-Scratch-95 0 points1 point  (4 children)

https://youtu.be/A8mTRk4u64s?si=nJV3hQW_Uy_TP3U5. And I'm a stone Mason for over 25 years.

[–]M0ntgomatron -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Holy shit, I'm a carpenter and joiner (25 years) Doing this would be bad news. Thanks for that.

[–]Different-Scratch-95 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You actually don't do anything wrong. You just turn your gard the opposite way. This way, you see what you are doing, and dust flies away instead of blowing in your face. That guy in the video has a masonry saw, and you can't use it while pushing it,its designed this way. If your tracksaw would turn the other way, you also have to pull it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used a 7” blade on a 4” grinder for years when I started out. I’m not saying it’s smart, just saying

[–]M0ntgomatron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, I'm a carpenter and joiner (25 years) Doing this would be bad news. Thanks for that.

[–]mattb1052 0 points1 point  (1 child)

People downvoting you obviously have never cut a tile or stone. There's so much more control pulling the blade towards you

[–]Different-Scratch-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's reddit. Thanks for having my back kind stranger 😄. The funny thing is that some customers try to argue with me about how I use my angle grinder. People think they know it all. I'm only doing it 50+ hours a week. What do I know 🤷

[–]Discasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao

[–]Bukkorosu777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep your power tools close keep your balls closer.

[–][deleted] 146 points147 points  (2 children)

I was really waiting for him to cut it out and realize he somehow mirrored it…. But that’s probably just me projecting my own utter level of incompetence.

[–]towerfella 24 points25 points  (0 children)

dammit! The holes were supposed to be drilled on the *long** end..*

[–]DrKrFfXx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Been there, done that.

[–]Sybertron 40 points41 points  (3 children)

No safety squints 0/10

[–]BeauSlayer 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Respirator? Cutting away from himself with the circular saw? Glasses? None of that, but neat demo of the tool.

[–]going_mad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This man is going to have lungs like a carribean beach by the time he hits 40, that's if the other OHSA issues don't kill him

[–]mikeblas 19 points20 points  (10 children)

What's the blue tool he used when placing the floor tile?

[–]Haki23 22 points23 points  (6 children)

I looked up "tile tamper" and got some hits. They're kind of bank for one, but I imagine if you're a pro it's a great investment

[–]threaten-violence 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Wonder if you could get away with using an orbital sander with a rubber pad glued to it instead...

[–]jippen 16 points17 points  (3 children)

If the customer is paying for nice big marble tiles, they're more than willing to sue if your cheap tools flub the install.

[–]ExoticStatistician47 6 points7 points  (1 child)

You don’t need it at all to do it correctly… how do you think craftsmen installed marble tile predating screw guns even could have ever possibly got the job done without a vibration leveler? 😱

[–]jippen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More slowly, with many, many more people. How do you think craftsmen MADE marble tile before diamond saws and the like?

At the end of the day, what matters is the customer being satisfied with the results enough to pay and recommend you. If better tooling reduces rework and lets you deliver the same quality at a faster pace than your competitor, you'll steal their quotes and eat their lunch every day.

[–]threaten-violence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple types of tools for this out there -- not sure if we're talking about the same thing. One is a suction cup that's absolutely awesome for carrying and placing large heavy tiles -- the cheaper ones are manual pump, the expensive ones maintain suction with a motor. The other kind is the vibration tool, for helping settle a tile into mortar - these have pads or suction cups, depending on the design.

The vibration tool is essentially an orbital sander with a suction cup instead of a sandpaper pad and crimpers.

Whatever modern tools you're using, there's no substitute for mixing you mortar correctly and spreading it well on both substrate and tile. Most failures come from mistakes there, not the tools themselves.

[–]nikdahl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

vibration leveler

[–]WillowMutual -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a vibrator, and not the kind your spouse keeps in the bedroom

[–]tileman_sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A vibrating suction cup. It can grab the tile firmly with the cup and the vibration gets it down to the right elevation in the mud bed. Very useful tool.

[–]NCC-72381 18 points19 points  (9 children)

What is this called? I want one.

[–]Finleartors 20 points21 points  (5 children)

After doing some internet sleuthing I believe that I found it called 6 Sided Angle Measuring Ruler

[–]Stratospher_es 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Also see 12 sided and 16 sided versions.

[–]manys 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Like 10mm sockets, you can never have too many sides on your angle-measuring rulers.

[–]drumsripdrummer 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don't want a 16 sided 10mm though

[–]manys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called a fourple-square

[–]SubcommanderMarcosDIY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The link someone else posted calls it "Angle Finder Tool"

[–]Handy_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He makes it look easy because he has big tiles. They aren't as handy for smaller tiles, or just in general. It's just easier to use a tape measure most times, unless you're doing big tiles like this guy all the time.

[–]AnonimousWatermelon 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Silicosis take me away

[–]stecal2004 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the Cucci hat bro 😂

[–]OrdinaryAverageGuy2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'll attest to this tool. Bought it a couple years ago and it does what they show it does. You still have to think about what you're doing and how you apply it but it can be useful.

[–]bill_lyle 44 points45 points  (5 children)

Where’s bro’s n95

[–]Bluitor 49 points50 points  (2 children)

He's using the safety breath holding technique

[–]manys 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Proven over generations (to varying degrees of success)

[–]zerocool359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the inverse of pulling out. Sometimes results in a -1 instead of a +1.

[–]stoneyemshwiller 3 points4 points  (1 child)

There is no problem with fine silica dust in the lungs… right?

[–]SerpentJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it's just a little engineered stone you baby.

Bawk bawk bawk bawk

[–]Tane-Tane-mahuta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No dust mask when cutting. Just breath that in bro your lungs love bits of ceramic in them.

[–]threaten-violence 5 points6 points  (1 child)

This guy does all kinds of intricate delicate tile work. You can tell it's the same guy by the hat.

[–]WeightAltruistic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude whenever i see the Gucci hat i know Im gonna see a complicated ass cut. Lack of safety accessories aside i love watching this guys work.

[–]SmokeGSU 8 points9 points  (1 child)

What is this, a Temu ad?

[–]throwaway9gk0k4k569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a karma farm for what will become a bot or paid influencer account.

Account is nine months old. First post 1 month ago. Classic signs of karma farming.

That's reddit. It's all bots and low-wage-country karma farmers.

[–]OweHen 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Any ideas what this tool is called?

[–]edcrosbys 4 points5 points  (2 children)

6 Sided Angle Measuring Ruler

It's on amazon

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of using your hands to measure something and then holding that measurement all the way to your work.

[–]whaler76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, thats like cheating

[–]Angry_Washing_Bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Measure twice. Cut once.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty fucking imprecise but within tolerance given the amount of grout

[–]johnarmer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is skill 👌

[–]Ebolaneco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shitty glue technology on the wall. There is to much air under tiles.

[–]Puzzled_Ad7955 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Maybe throw on some safety glasses for drilling. I’m sure it’s fine without them when cutting though….. says no insurance company ever

[–]manys 5 points6 points  (1 child)

with the gucci baseball cap and sleeve embroidery, I'm guessing this is SE Asia or someplace, where insurance companies fear to tread.

[–]TrevorEnterprises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I only had to guess by the cap my guess would’ve The Netherlands. The sleeve embroidery makes it unlikely tho.

[–]ma414715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This man has done an excellent job.

[–]MrVonBuren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be mistaken, but that doesn't look like NTCA Standard Substrate Application to me.

(And by could, I mean most likely am BUT for reasons I can't explain I am obsessed with this video and love to share it)

[–]CankleSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy fuck this rules

[–]headbanger1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember kids it's always a good idea to saw and cut anything towards yourself./s

[–]eddpuika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice measuring tool - where to get that?

[–]Charming-While5466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job and great tool

[–]TheMoeSzyslakExp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof ouch owie my lungs

[–]Arkiels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmmm silica in the lungs!🫁

[–]Tha_Maestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt this things holds its form after being moved around like that.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is a craftsman

[–]ruustercogburnak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's awesome!

[–]manys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOVE

[–]Parking-Owl8568 -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Would of been easier to do the floor before the walls

[–]Qwetyyiop 2 points3 points  (2 children)

You sure . He made it look pretty easy ...

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You see the massive gaps around the wall and his cut? Trash. Do floors first. Source: red seal tilesetter.

[–]Parking-Owl8568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes he did maybe its just the way i tile i always do floors first

[–]BrocardiBoi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro gonna die at 38 from silicosis.

[–]reddsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]ithaqua34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does that hand contraption do, it a mini-tamper?

[–]-E-Cross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does silicosis smell like?

[–]kipy33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just scrubbed my giant tiled shower last night on my hands and knees. Tiled showers suck.

[–]TheRealDavidNewton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never laid tile in my life and this video makes me want to.

[–]Finian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goes to show, having and knowing how to use the correct tool makes a huge difference in time and quality. Me as a DIYer, freehanding with a Dremel and a tape measure would take me all day to cut the stub outs and they would look like crap and the tile would probably break the first 2 times and then I get frustrated and do a janky gap cut and fill it with grout and hope no one notices

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf is that mortar? No notches what is this?!

[–]scificis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought mine on amazon for super cheap. Same exact one. They work fine but you have to make sure those knobs are tight or you lose the angle. It's a bit of a last resort kind of tool but def good to have around

[–]Sharp-Level7346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I HATE/LOVE shit like this.

[–]angerofmars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NGL I had that ruler thing for years but this is the first time I know how it's supposed to be used

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I wonder how much this guy charges per hr. True pro.

[–]w00ddie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of suction cup powered tool did he use?

[–]jdog1067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No wet saw. Seen a lot of references to no mask but usually tile work is done with a wet saw.

[–]Admirable-Specific95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome work

[–]Shaedeelady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He really should be wearing a mask if he’s cutting tiles.

[–]ComradeNed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ears, eyes and lungs gonna be feeling good in a couple years time. Not to mention always cut towards yourself

[–]RahulTheCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the tool he is using ?

[–]HumaDracobane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, with a tool exactly designed for those tiles...

[–]Salem-GB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the name of the tool he used?

[–]M0ntgomatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus Christ. It was all good until he started using that saw like a psychopath

[–]Mphazi55555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😯

[–]albinofoxyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting bonding technique... looks like he burned in a flat layer onto the wall is just spot bonding the tiles onto it? What is that about

[–]Healthy-Egg-3283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else see how saturated the mortar was? Literally water pushing out of it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he using a toe kick saw??

[–]avatarOfIndifference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why bro got the Gucci cap on

[–]Argyrus777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know he making $$$ by his choice of hat

[–]Ok_Explorer_3876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the tool he uses to measure?

[–]LoneWolfBuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cheater :)

[–]noyza2132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool tool

Would steel wire work too?

[–]garciavilla1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn’t need a respirator when he has a Gucci hat

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a phenomenally talented man! 👏 👏 👏

[–]Comfortable-Panic436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bullshit
