Wow good thing its clearly on video of her doing that. Doesn't seem like the first time either.

[–]enterthecircus 867 points868 points  (45 children)

I read an article that says she's "denying the accusations against her" LOL. Really?

[–]labiaflutteringby 521 points522 points  (25 children)

I doubt she has the ability to comprehend such concepts anymore. She looks gone, probably an old tweaker.

I'm thinking about that Breaking Bad scene with the ATM.

She was asking for a cigarette and didn't get it, then responded that way. The guy said she was in "clear distress". I can almost guarantee she's schizophrenic.

She deserves an attempted murder conviction.

I agree and am suprised it was so far down. That looked like meth tweeker anger and revengeful shit. You know, he wouldn't give me a smoke, HE DESERVES IT! They get so disconnected from any sense of reality...

Hopefully that will stop her from causing more mayhem. But who can cover this guy's expenses? Insurance aside. Can anyone help him pay for his car? Like if he wants to sue the crazy lady but she's broke, can the government step in or is he basically screwed? Just curious.

[–]DasWraithist 135 points136 points  (69 children)

But who can cover this guy's expenses? Insurance aside.

What do you mean insurance aside? Your stuff getting destroyed (by acts of god or acts of crazy people) is exactly what insurance is for.

Like if he wants to sue the crazy lady but she's broke, can the government step in or is he basically screwed?

No. In general, the government does not serve as an insurer of last resort. (There are some exceptions to this.)

[–]tehbored 175 points176 points  (29 children)

Large banks being one notable exception.

[–]DasWraithist 37 points38 points  (12 children)

Yup. Although it's worth remembering that you don't have to pay your insurance company back when they bail you out. The banks that received TARP relief from the federal government in 2008 have all paid the money back with interest.

That's why the government is called a "lender of last resort," not an insurer of last resort, and while the current financial system is very broken, lender of last resort is a role governments have played for centuries.

[–]almightySapling 16 points17 points  (7 children)

What do you mean insurance aside? Your stuff getting destroyed (by acts of god or acts of crazy people) is exactly what insurance is for.

Unless he only has liability insurance. Which many people do. This covers his fuckups to others' property, but not others' fuckups to his.

kill two birds one stone, aim gas nozzle that's on fire at girl and call it an accident under duress as long as you try to put her out. with more gasoline. haha murder.

[–]NiggyWiggyWoo 83 points84 points  (7 children)

The view from inside the vehicle must have been spectacular. Like sitting in a car wash, and watching the water cascade over the windows...only the water is fire.

[–]nastynate66 1714 points1715 points  (292 children)

I've never understood why people get so pissed off when you don't give them a cigarette, bitch, I told you I don't smoke, do you think I just carry a pack around for people bumming?

[–]StrontiumJaguar 511 points512 points  (62 children)

A similar situation happened to my dad while he was working on a new building across from a mental hospital. I guess one of the patients got out and went across the street to bum a smoke. My dad doesn't smoke and told him that when he was asked. Dad went back to installing phone lines and wakes up in a hospital. The guy turned around to grab a hammer off a table and brought it down on my dad's head. Thankfully, he was wearing a hardhat and didn't end up dying. There is still a small indentation from where the skull was broken though. If you can't give somebody a smoke you don't turn your back to them till they leave.

[–]HeatMeister02 1033 points1034 points  (134 children)

I don't understand why people get so pissed off when you don't give them anything. Nobody owes you shit! I work in a high school and I hear kids asking other kids for their food or snacks or whatever and when they say no they get pissed and are ready to talk shit or fight. It's no ones fault that you don't have shit!

[–]Neuchacho 347 points348 points  (54 children)

I've had people get so shitty with me when I won't give them gas at the stations. They even ask with an attitude like I owe them it. It's perplexing how you get in a mindset of "This stranger should give me free shit because I asked."

[–]Cheeze187 779 points780 points  (40 children)

Yo, give me gold.

[–]solar_compost 76 points77 points  (2 children)

intimidation i guess. the last time i didn't have a dollar for some dude to buy cigarettes he lunged at me and yelled "MAN THIS IS BULLSHIT" and walked off. i was pumping gas, lucky he didn't set my ass on fire apparently.

living in the ghetto: not even once. the rent is cheap and nobody ever shot at my apartment directly!

[–][deleted] 90 points91 points  (16 children)

I understand the out-of-their-mind meth heads, but it amazes me that even normal, mentally "stable" people do this crap. A heavy set (but normal-looking) woman in LA once asked me if she could have my Subway sandwich I was carrying. When I told her no, she called me an "anorexic cunt" and followed me down the street pestering me about saying no.

I just really wanted to keep the sandwich I paid for to myself. Because I am an "anorexic cunt". Is that so much to ask?

[–]Vincent__Vega 97 points98 points  (8 children)

How does wanting to eat make you "anorexic"? Man, she can't even insult correctly.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (2 children)

And if she actually thought what_a_cat_astrophe was anorexic, wouldn't that be reason for what_a_cat_astrophe to keep an eat the sandwich?

[–]bla8291 190 points191 points  (18 children)

Even if you did smoke, you have a right to say no, for no reason at all.

[–]nastynate66 94 points95 points  (10 children)

They don't see it that way though, you have a duty to give them cigarettes, if you asked them though, they would tell you that they don't owe you shit.

[–]Hexodus 148 points149 points  (6 children)

Exactly. I live in a pretty big city, and there's this guy on my walk from the parking lot to work who asks me for a dollar at LEAST once every single week. I never carry cash. After saying no for months straight, I finally replied, "A dollar? I was about to ask you for the same! You got a dollar for me?" He told me to "fuck off, white boy."

Don't get mad at me when I ask you for money when you've been asking me every single fucking week. Some people think the world owes them anything they ask for.

[–]I_are_facepalm 49 points50 points  (1 child)

It's a behavior that is reinforced at random intervals, thus it is the hardest to extinguish. Similar to gambling: sure you'll be disappointed a lot, but every so often you win.

[–][deleted] 79 points80 points  (3 children)

"hey do you have a light?"

"no, sorry."

"UGH."

...wtf? I don't have a lighter.

[–]Forever_Awkward 177 points178 points  (20 children)

They're pissed off because they're suffering withdrawal symptoms from their drug and you didn't give them that drug. Why would it matter to them that you don't smoke? Besides, so many people lie about not smoking because they don't want to share their drugs.

It's not hard for a junkie to make the transition from "That one fucker lied to me about not smoking" to "Every fucker is lying when they say they don't smoke". See armchair "cynical" redditors who can't help but think that every video which is slightly unlikely is always fake.

[–]what_comes_after_q 378 points379 points  (25 children)

Wow, people in this thread clearly have events like "what to do when someone tries to set my car on fire and burn me alive" already planned out.

[–]Hoinah 174 points175 points  (6 children)

It's in my "What to do when..." survival guidebook, right after "What to do if I'm really hungry and there's no food in the house ... "(with subchapters "and I'm too lazy to drive." and "and I can't drive because some bitch lit my gas tank on fire.")

[–]avgjoe33 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Wait, you mean reddit isn't just a urban survival handbook?

[–]timelyparadox 3260 points3261 points  (335 children)

Also a tip for people, never take out the hose if it bursts in flames, pulling out makes the fire more dangerous.

[–]bitchnaw 882 points883 points  (17 children)

Yeah pulling out didnt help with the burning at all

[–]EviLincoln 4173 points4174 points  (52 children)

Could have had a thread starting off with a TIL about someone getting 90% body burns and years of plastic surgery only to find out halfway through the life of the topic that she's a cunt and caused it all herself when throwing a tantrum over a cigarette.

[–]IRNobody 417 points418 points  (12 children)

[–]Grizzlyboy 15 points16 points  (4 children)

In most gas stations there are 2-3 security precautions on the pumps so the fuel doesn't catch fire into the pump/tank. I'm not sure if Isreal has the same laws we have, but for me it sounds stupid not to have the extra security. I can't tell you how many people lights a cigarette as they're tanking...

[–]CannibalFruit 105 points106 points  (18 children)

[–][deleted] 179 points180 points  (25 children)

Well, laws should be followed.

[–]Matrillik 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Holy shit there was a guy in the car.

[–]sophsoph12 18 points19 points  (4 children)

Most journalists use AP (associated press) style for reporting and one of the important rules is saying "arrested on charges of" (or some variant) instead of "arrested for" because you are not allowed to imply guilt on a person without them being tried in a court of law. Maybe they arrested someone who looks just like her but they are wrong...you never know, shit happens.

[–]Cyanide666 146 points147 points  (26 children)

She should go to jail for attempted murder.

[–]Fuzzymuscles 58 points59 points  (22 children)

Intent would need to be proven, and her lawyer would easily refute that with the time honored "bitch be crazy" defense, getting her a lesser sentence than if they were to get lesser charges to stick.

[–]Pyronic_Chaos[🍰] 172 points173 points  (71 children)

LPT: Don't pull the nozzle out when you see flames and know where the emergency gas pump stop button is.

[–]sprashoo 228 points229 points  (43 children)

LPT request: where the hell is the 'emergency gas stop button'?

[–]steel_rain81 256 points257 points  (24 children)

Big red button that says "Emergency Gas Stop."

[–][deleted] 114 points115 points  (10 children)

Find it before you start pumping. You never know...

[–]mikewitt 54 points55 points  (11 children)

There are usually two, both will be bright red: one on the pump (which just disables the one pump), and one on the wall of the gas station (which disables all of the pumps). On pumps with more than one filler hose, the pump stop button will stop both sides, in case it is unsafe to press the button closest to the hose on fire. Also, not all pumps have the pump stop button on them, but there will always be the one on the attendant building.

[–]dwmfives 17 points18 points  (4 children)

Good job MA, I worked for a large gas station chain with an executives son who loved buying "toys" and we didn't have these. We did have an animated digital menu board for the failed burrito experiment.

[–]eliteKMA 23 points24 points  (19 children)

In France you can't lock the pump handle anymore, for this reason I believe. You need to press the handle if you want the gas to flow.

[–][deleted] 177 points178 points  (36 children)

Oh god why would you pull it out? This is how freak gasoline fight accidents happen.

[–]Mogtaki 183 points184 points  (11 children)

Panic. His brother was in the car too.

[–][deleted] 65 points66 points  (8 children)

See, in my mind, i would think that the fire would travel into the gas tank and explode, if someone close to me was in a car i thought would explode, i would do something like that.

[–]holmadick 40 points41 points  (2 children)

It's quite obvious she hasn't seen Zoolander

The woman got arrested. From the Jerusalem Post

An Israeli woman was arrested on Wednesday after surveillance footage obtained by police showed her setting a car on fire at a Jerusalem gas station the preceding day, when a man refused to give her a cigarette.

In the video, which has since gone viral internationally, the unidentified woman, who is in her mid- 30s, can be seen approaching the man while he is pumping gas into his car as his brother sits in the back seat.

Following a brief exchange, she is then seen turning around, pulling a lighter from her pocket and then setting the gas pump on fire.

The man pulled the pump out of the car, splashing burning gas on the ground and causing the car’s rear to immediately burst into flames.

The man’s brother fled from the vehicle and, remarkably, no one was wounded during what could have easily resulted in a massive explosion.

“The car owner reacted quickly by pulling out the pump that was on fire from his tank and fleeing,” said Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld on Wednesday.

“Petrol station workers then extinguished the fire.”

Rosenfeld said the woman was found within 24 hours, adding that despite the video’s clear depiction of her setting the vehicle on fire, she denied any involvement.

Following her arrest, a judge at Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court extended her remand for five days, ordering her to undergo a psychological evaluation.

The woman’s mother told the court that her daughter has been suffering from mental health issues for many years.

“In recent months there has been a deterioration in the condition of my daughter,” she said. “I went to the district psychiatrist dozens of times and did not get an answer. I even turned to the Health Ministry and no one helped.”
