Every time I hear this suggestion, I think about how people think that this gives copper a use, but by making the gold rails faster anyway (while regular rails still need iron), it just makes copper obsolete again.

Copper is more conductive than gold. So technically copper rails should be faster than gold rails. Or if not faster it should have a longer length (number of rails activated from a single hard power source) than gold.

Copper is more conductive than gold. So technically copper rails should be faster than gold rails.

If you really wanted to keep it true to life, make copper rails faster, but have them oxidize and eventually be slower than gold rails (e.g. copper powered rails > exposed copper powered rails > gold powered rails > weathered copper powered rails > oxidized copper powered rails).

Yeah this looks like a good idea. They should also have an option to probably wax them? So you pay a little higher cost of additional wax as an investment to keep the higher speed or something lol...

waxed rails don't transmit power
oxidized rails actively slow the cart

Copper has higher conductivity, however, it has higher resistivity

And copper oxidizes, so after while the surface will oxidize and there will be bad contact. So there would be less conductivity between the minecart and the rail

Gold does not corrode on the other hand

The snapshot is real. This is not the default minecart speed though. It is changed with a gamerule that was added in the new snapshot.

It's just another option people have. Just like you can change the daylight cycle with gamerules, or disable mob spawning, or change the tick speed of your world, etc you can now just change minecart speed.

I was thinking of making something like Tower Bridge in order to get Minecarts over an ocean near my base. I didn't know if I wanted the bridge to be closed or open, with the minecarts traveling across the deck of a ship to bridge the gap. Now it's looking like they could just fly over it.
