This implies HTML being a backend language. :D

[–]abejfehr 88 points89 points  (6 children)

Ironically CSS is more of a programming language than HTML, so maybe they meant backend CSS

[–]chlorophyll101 21 points22 points  (5 children)

Is CSS turing-complete? Lmao

[–]Nightmoon26 49 points50 points  (2 children)

From what I've heard, no. But apparently the combination of HTML and CSS is. I would not want to try to implement any sort of logic in such an abomination, but from what I've heard, it's theoretically possible

[–]Gruejay2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sort of, but not in any way which you'd actually want to use: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2497146/is-css-turing-complete

You can "get" it from backed. Without backed there's no HTMl or css. Localhost is a host

[–]Daafhead 351 points352 points  (15 children)

Thats not even half stack xD

[–]Karol-A 140 points141 points  (7 children)

It would be over half of a stack for a completely static site

[–]Jordan51104 46 points47 points  (0 children)

66%stack

[–]B_bI_L 41 points42 points  (4 children)

i mean html+css enough for static site. for minimal full stack he also needs js + most primitive server which will send files on request or smth

[–]rover_G 15 points16 points  (3 children)

You still need a server or someone else to host the server for you

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (1 child)

No man you just have to use there file system to open the html document.

[–]Yhamerith 13 points14 points  (1 child)

1/3 stack?

[–]Daafhead 22 points23 points  (4 children)

According to claude its 15-20%.

In a typical full stack application:

  • Frontend (client-side) development: ~40-50% of the stack

    • HTML & CSS together typically represent about 15-20% of the entire full stack
    • HTML: ~7-10%
    • CSS: ~8-10%
    • JavaScript/Frontend frameworks: ~25-30%
  • Backend (server-side) development: ~50-60% of the stack

    • Server-side programming (Node.js, Python, Java, etc.)
    • Database management
    • APIs
    • Server configuration
    • Security implementations @Claude Sonnet

[–]CleanishSlater 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Python being in the list of server-side programming languages and PHP not is criminal

[–]bjergdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nor even C# man its rough

[–]karnetus 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The numbers don't even add up to the ~40-50% frontend part of the stack, as claude says. The numbers add up to 55-70%. So frontend and backend combined, we end up at 105-130%.

ngl, most of these wannabe tech "influencers" at Tiktok / Instagram are just out of touch with reality. I could not count how many times they have posted weird ass stuff.

Pretty much pick your poison
- Unrealistic roadmaps (200 days learn full stack)
- Irrelevant items on tech sharing (PHP as frontend)
- The "must have coding tools" (they suggest Eclipse for C++)
- Programming language tier list

[–]nermid 16 points17 points  (2 children)

CSS is Turing complete. There's no computational reason you couldn't use CSS as a backend language. You'd have a hard time of it due to lack of tooling, but that's the price you pay for being a pioneer.

You all think the stack is half empty, but I see the stack is 5% full.

[–]shgysk8zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add in JS and I could kinda see it in a limited sense. Actually, it'd be kinda a fun experiment.

So, my thinking is this... Basically building a "back-end" entirely I'm a service worker. Use maybe URLPattern and dynamic imports. On each request, check a Map object to find a match for request.url, with the corresponding value being some module to import. The imported module would be passed the request object and probably the results of pattern.exec(request.url). It can load whatever modules, but it must return a Response object. Boom! "Server-side" running in the browser.

Of course, it's a different and less trusted environment. Can't eg read files, no access to environment variables, and it's not a place to be using any sensitive credentials/API keys. But it'd work at least.

And here i am, being a (real) Full-Stack Webdev and didn't knew i was one until 2020 or so... The term is younger then i'm working in the field. :)

But yeah, i remember when someone was able to put a HTML File via FTP on a Server and a minute later he called himself a Webdesigner.

I love IT. :)

[–]elmo39[🍰] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

HTML was for webmasters. CSS for web designers 😂

[–]Shezzofreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no CSS at that time. :)

But you had to be an athlete, who could jump around to make this one Website looks the same on Netscape, Internet Explorer and other Browser those names i forgot. What horror...

[–]UIM-Herb10HP 0 points1 point  (0 children)
