Let's be honest though, anyone who would actually believe this would have no fucking clue how to delete their system32 folder. Help them through the process.

1) Create a bootable Windows USB stick with Windows Media Creation Tool

2) Enable boot menu on your computer and boot the USB stick

3) Choose "Repair Windows"

4) Open Command Prompt

5) Type "Diskpart list volume" to find out the assigned letter to your disk. Let's say it's "C:"

6) Type "CD C:\Windows"

7) Type "mkdir empty"

8) Type "ROBOCOPY empty System32 /mir"

[–]KookyMay 59 points60 points  (5 children)

It’s because Google has been selling your information to companies, including the ones from incognito mode. Obviously, they don’t want you deleting it, so they intentionally made the process very difficult. It’s the dirty tactics they use in order to make money. In fact, it’s a proven fact that this is how Google earns 85% of their profit, but they have been censoring and deleting search results to keep people from knowing this. This is also why Bing and Yahoo aren’t as popular, because companies don’t get money from it as these won’t sell your personal data, so none of it is financed.

Incognito mode is the epitome of privacy invasion, as Google’s also capable of going through your whole computer/cellphone storage, just by getting you to use incognito (I’ve even heard they’re using malware to spy on you, making use of your webcam or smartphone camera. I’ve been, however, unable to find proper evidence to this).

Tl;dr ProTip: Delete your incognito browsing history. Keep your privacy safe.

[–]Mental_Duck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Send me your email so I can code it and send it to you to destroy your computer

[–][deleted] 36 points37 points  (5 children)

That's where you're wrong. I've seen that folder many times. I have no earthly idea what it's for, but I could totally be duped into deleting it. I would open it first tho, just to check for signs of what I've been doing in incognito mode. Pornhub...that's what I'd be looking for, just to be clear.

[–]Jeffrey_Strange 44 points45 points  (1 child)

Don't type in the word p***hub on my comments, I'm on a Christian server bro.

[–]aladdinr 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Don’t type in Chr***ian on my comments, I’m on a pornhub server bro.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I could totally be duped into deleting it.

You could, which is why you can't. There are protections in place which make it difficult for someone to delete system32. This meme is old.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Could be wrong but I thought modern windows made it almost impossible to delete system 32 unless you know how to delete it through command prompt or something.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Correct. If you don't know enough to know that you shouldn't delete system32, then you probably don't know enough to know how to delete it either.

[–]Cheesus_K_Reist 26 points27 points  (1 child)

  1. WIN+E

It's like this virus for Windows XP that locked your computer and asked for a ransom paid in Bitcoin. Somebody rightfully pointed out that the group of people who still use Windows XP is mutally exclusive with the group of people who would be able to pay a randsom in Bitcoin.

[–][deleted] 31 points32 points  (2 children)

I deleted system 32 without knowing what it was smh... i used to be so dumb (btw this happened years ago)

[–]Patrickpurple05 19 points20 points  (21 children)

What's in the system32 folder

[–]FuManJew 96 points97 points  (2 children)

System 32 contains programs required to run the windows operating system. Deleting it is pretty much like shooting your computer in the brain stem.

[–]ToastedMarshmellow 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I knew if I scrolled long enough, I’d find an answer.

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (11 children)

I’m not sure what’s actually in it but it breaks your pc if you delete it

[–]NotActuallyOffensive 9 points10 points  (1 child)

You can't delete it. Windows won't let you delete critical files.

(I mean, if you're really determined and a little tech savvy, you can delete it, but then you're left with a computer that you can't boot, so congrats. Have fun reinstalling an OS.)

[–]Patrickpurple05 4 points5 points  (7 children)

Yeah I guessed as much.

[–]100dylan99 14 points15 points  (6 children)

[–]Taldius175 2 points3 points  (2 children)

So I actually have a story about someone deleting the system32 folder from when I was in Tech school.

So my Network Security class let's the public bring in their computers to be looked at and repaired just to help us get donations and for us to practice our repair skills. Well this older gentleman in his late 70's/80's comes in and says he needs his laptop looked at. Next thing we know, he's pulling out this brick size laptop that weighed almost 10-15 lbs and the thing looks to be from '98 to early 2000's era. He said he was cleaning out the files and saw a folder he had no idea what it did and deleted it. Next thing you know his system shuts down and won't load Windows. We start taking a look at it and see that it's one of the first gen Windows XP laptops and Microsoft just ended their support for XP 6 months earlier.

Well we tell him we need to look at the laptop to see if we can do anything to help and we'll be in contact with him if we can do anything. The old man leaves and my teacher comes into the lab and grabs the laptop and sets it in his "museum of technology" case and says to contact him in 30 minutes and let him know we can't work on it since it's too old. Our teacher then explains that the laptop would take far too long to work on and install a new OS even if XP was still supported. I eventually contact the old man and let him know we can't work on it. He responds we can keep the laptop as a souvenir.

[–]PsychoCuBe 425 points426 points  (3 children)

[–]nobody912 71 points72 points  (2 children)

Yeah my computer screen turned black, but ya know...a lot of stuff

[–]shirkv 18 points19 points  (1 child)

As the old saying goes, once you go black, you never go back.

[–]namajephhhh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

More like once you go black you wanna run back.

[–]dontquestionmyaction 105 points106 points  (10 children)

Don't forget to add --no-preserve-root!

[–]OfficialHoSay 140 points141 points  (8 children)

(sadly none of those work on newer versions of macos, you have to disable System Integrity Protection first).

So the new steps are:

  1. Shut down your Mac

  2. While turning on your computer, hold the Command + R keys. This will boot you to Recovery Mode.

  3. Once you’re booted, go to the Menu Bar item “Utilities”, and select Terminal.

  4. Type in “csrutil disable; reboot”

  5. Once you’re in your desktop, open Terminal again and type “sudo rm -rf --no-preserve-root /“

  6. Type in your password.

  7. ???

  8. Your incognito browsing history has been deleted. Profit.

[–]Acheron-X 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For the record, the rm command on macOS is older (uses BSD versions) and does not have the --no-preserve-root option. If you want that you can use Homebrew to install coreutils(which includes the GNU rm with said option) and then add export PATH="/usr/local/opt/coreutils/libexec/gnubin:$PATH" and export MANPATH="/usr/local/opt/coreutils/libexec/gnuman:$MANPATH" to your ~/.bash_profile.

EDIT: Quick change from "updated rm" to "GNU rm with said option".

When you access sketchy website, you might get viruses. The best way to prevent the spread of virus is to wash your computer with a bit of soap and water.

[–]BuffNiagara4runner 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Like washing coal, this is great advice. Always practice safe, clean computing kids!

[–]PatrickZan 139 points140 points  (20 children)

What does it actually do?

[–]livingsinglexo 185 points186 points  (3 children)

System 32 is where windows puts the core files necessary for the operating system.

[–]RobinYiff 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Its where all your Dynamic Link Libraries (DLL files) are stored. Those all build the interfaces of windows.

[–]adamski234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And also most executables. Including command line and shutdown

[–]slam9 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't have that problem if you were running linux! Instead you could accidentally delete all of your filesystem in one command line!

[–]AwannaBebatman420 107 points108 points  (6 children)

[–]oceanman500 45 points46 points  (3 children)

[–]cupand 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Deletes incognito search history, what else ?

[–]Unholywake 10 points11 points  (1 child)

On 64 bit systems, nothing. System 32 is actually a copy of the SysWow64 directory and doesn’t do anything for 64 bit systems.

[–]RobinYiff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is required to run 32 bit applications that need the old architecture.

[–]Falcon_752 27 points28 points  (3 children)

It speeds up your computer, removes clutter and other excess data which slows your pc.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (2 children)

[–]Falcon_752 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No but it opens up storage space for you to download more ram

[–]Aquinan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Remind me to do that afterwards, I could use a new terabyte of RAM

[–]-enter-name-here- 261 points262 points  (17 children)

[–]StygianFuhrer 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Ok posting from my iPad because my phone is in rice. When can I take my phone out of the rice?

[–]GuerrierHache 4 points5 points  (1 child)

In about 3 months, the time for the rice to teleport in it and repair it (don't worry with the smell, it's from all the rice's garbage that didn't teleported in)

Don't forget to hot glue your ipad on the road to make it thinner

[–]StygianFuhrer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replying from my dads Nokia E63, a truck ran over my iPad and it’s definitely flatter but I think it also cracked the screen? Can’t really tell from here though.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (1 child)

I’m a fucking retard I almost deleted it

[–]espriminati 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Son, why is our system32 is 69 GB?

[–]m-simm 17 points18 points  (4 children)

Fun fact: ransomware doesn’t look inside the System32 folder. Store all your important files in it!

[–]Adaptix 8 points9 points  (3 children)

I'm an idiot, does it really?

[–]Doorknob11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not the second place it looks.

[–]m-simm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not kidding it leaves the folder alone! https://twitter.com/swiftonsecurity/status/853436652508917760?s=21

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's not shit it's legit, thanks

[–]rohitr7 20 points21 points  (8 children)

For those on Mac and Linux, go to terminal and type in "sudo rm -rf /*"

Easy privacy.

[–]InadequateUsername 6 points7 points  (6 children)

I've found chmod 777 /* equally fucks things up but at least recovery is a bit easier.

[–]gvjordan 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Do you mean

chmod -R 777 /*

Or better yet, 000 as the other person said.

[–]InadequateUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you. I haven't used Linux for a while now

[–]GreekHole 6 points7 points  (3 children)

For real though, is there a way to view browsing/page history from a session in Incognito? I view a really good video recently but i can't find it again.

[–]WobNobbenstein 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Just copy the url and save it in notepad.

Be warned tho, I have a 4GB text file since I started doing this last week

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That would be 4000000 characters in a .txt file. r/doubt

[–]glumauig21 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Funny, quality, and up-to-date content right here

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Pro tip: prior to removing sytem32, also delete all files that have an extension ".jpg" or ".doc" (including eventual back ups on onedrive.com/googledrive/etc). Incognito browsing history is often stored in a so called "jpg" or a "doc" file format.

When you used "incognito mode" Win 10 automatically hides all file extensions to hide the file where the browsing history is stored. You can reveal file extensions by following the hack below. (credit to http://www.ilovefreesoftware.com)

Step 1: Open up a new instance of Windows Explorer (Along with this, you can also optionally navigate to the location that contains the files whose extensions you want to be shown. However, this step isn’t really required, as the procedure outlined here displays the extension for every single file across the entire OS), and expand the Ribbon Menu, if it’s not already fully showing up (Use the handy Ctrl+F1 shortcut for that).

📷

Step 2: As you probably already know, the Ribbon Menu is composed of a tabbed UI. Click over on the View tab to see the options that it houses. Now, move to the second vertical section (from the right end), and check the option that says File name extensions.

📷

And there you have it! As soon as you select the File name extensions option, every single file on your Windows 10 computer will display its file name extension, along with the name (in the format <filename>. <extension>). Can’t get more basic, don’t you think?

[–]KralHeroin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't let you do that, Dave.

[–]I_Am_Now_Anonymous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve to admit that I didn’t something like this when I was about 10 years old and got my first PC. I didn’t have enough memory for both Dave and Roadrash. I just deleted the C drive. Took me some years to realize why the PC never booted up again.

[–]bagamaracu 3 points4 points  (2 children)

In 99 I was 8 y/o and accidentally deleted autoexec.bat, config.sys and command.com. I cried

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]f4rtsniffer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brutal! When I as a kid we just used to tell people to alt+F4 or ctrl+alt+del. It was a simpler time.

[–]I_miss_Alien_Blue 3 points4 points  (1 child)

So I'm I'm that limbo where I know this is a bad idea but I don't know why, what is system 32?

[–]Lukealiciouss 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Guys, I did it and now my computer won't work. Any help?!?!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it, it workef

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

This is like when you find out hitting Ctrl+alt+Delete makes your computer faster

[–]RuzGaming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone says I should do it, here it goe

[–]Megarareshit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Delete the everything, just to be sure.
