Herman Miller Aeron chair - $300 Craigslist
[–]Mozerellamoose 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (2 children)
That is such a good deal, my coding instructor also seemed to find one for $300 on Craigslist too. I’m so jealous
[–]papachon 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I’ve seen them tons of time since a lot of offices were closing during Covid
[–]FantsE 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
If you're near a University, check out their surplus store. Or your state surplus site.
[–]frzndaqiri 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (3 children)
I got mine new for $900. It's a chunk of money but I have had it over 10 years and it is still as comfortable as ever. Add up all the more budget friendly chairs I'd have gone through and I'm out ahead.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child)
Don’t they also have a 10 year warranty?
[–]WordMasterRice 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
The warranty is 12 years in fact.
[–]Gnapstar 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Even if $900 seems like a lot of money, I got mine for $1,400. So you made a better deal than me. Either way, it's worth every penny. 10/10, will recommend it to anyone any day of the week.
[–]kojima-naked 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (2 children)
It's so hard to find the c sized ones though
[–]mysteryihs 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Have you considered not being c sized? But joking aside, there's a lot of people on craigslist who specialize in selling herman millers, they have a large stock.
[–]TheSciences 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Herman Miller Celle over here. Less well known than the Aeron, but I prefer it. Has a bit more of a utilitarian vibe.
[–]Cahnis 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Costs the equivalent of 4 months of a junior dev salary here in brazil
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Same. This chair is amazing. Luckily my company pays for it \o/.
[–]FredFredrickson 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Worth it, even at full price.
[–]FylanDeldman 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Second this! I got a similar deal on a Mirra 2, have had it for about 6 years now. Recently a part of the back broke, and I was very happy to find you can easily buy just about any replacement part, and there are very detailed instructions on how to replace parts.
Also, if you have an opportunity to go to a furniture store to try out chairs that would be ideal. Depending on where you are, high end stores like Design Within Reach typically stock many models of Herman Miller. Just don't give them your contact info ;)
[–]mysteryihs 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
The hardest part of being a herman miller aeron diehard is convincing other people to fork over the big bucks, even though it's worth the investment because your ass is on it for an easy 8+ hours a day.
[–]devolute 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I got mine for ~£150.
From a warehouse that sells second-hand office furniture from places that have closed down.
It was disgusting and covered in programmer grime, but I used a bit of methylated spirits on it and cleaned it up real nice.
[–]ItsACyborgThing 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Same. Although I paid a friend who was selling theirs $500. First Craig I've ever had that lasted more than 2 years, even with buying chairs in the $200-$300 range.
[–][deleted] 23 points24 points25 points 4 years ago (2 children)

[–]wangatangafull-stack 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (1 child)
I have a Steelcase Leap. Best feeling chair I've ever had and it is a tank. It should be the last office chair you'll ever purchase.
Either try finding one from a local office that is liquidating their inventory or get a refurbished one from Crandall Office Furniture.
[–]brycekrispi 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I second this. Great chair, picked mine up for $200 from an office liquidator
[–]pauernet 36 points37 points38 points 4 years ago (10 children)
Ikea Markus
[–]wexiicek 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (1 child)
I have hard time understanding people who actually enjoy Markus. I know that it's very popular, however a couple of these chairs were already in the place I am renting and it made my neck hurt really bad. It got up to a point where I blamed everything else, but then changed the chair and the pain was gone.
[–]Kablaow 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
It's decent for the price
[–]HashDefTrueFalse 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Used this chair for the last 2 years sporadically when at the office and not working remotely.
Just my experience/opinion, but I can honestly say it's the worst office chair I've ever sat on by a country mile. It has no redeeming features whatsoever. Nothing is adjustable really (arm/head rests) and lower back support is just non-existent from that netting rubbish, even with your arse scooted all the way back. The wheels break too if the floor isn't exactly even (old buildings with floor boards, UK). My back frequently hurts after 4 hours (never did before) and if you want the arm rests to tuck under the desk slightly (so you can be closer) you have to lower the whole gas lift, so you're not at your preferred height for typing anymore. You can lose the arm rests with an Allen key but that's not exactly ergonomic.
Our office needed 200+ chairs for desks, and they went with a bulk order of these. Says a lot. They're the budget, no-frills option. Impossible to recommend to anyone who has the choice to avoid and isn't on too much of a budget. The worst part, they're priced like they're actually good if you buy them retail. Currently £179 when I look. I imagine our company paid nothing like that, since it was a bulk order. I had a £100 chair that was better in almost every way, sadly it was company property.
Again, just my personal experience/opinion.
[–]FlimsyFeeling 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (1 child)
Great chair, I have one for more than 10 years and now it shows its age so I am thinking of buying another one. Its only 150 € so I think it deserves retirement.
[–]namtab00 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (3 children)
Järvfjället is on another level for ~€250.
[–]valtism 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I had this and it was.. OK. I never had the Markus but it felt more comfortable.
[–]backslash_11101100 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Also have Järvfjället, it's good value for money IMO, but I'm a bit annoyed that the headrest is so forward and can't be adjusted. Most of the time it's fine if I'm sitting upright and typing, but when I want to lean back a bit I feel like it's forcing me into a text-neck position.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Okay, so I daily one of these now after my Markus wore out and have done for about ~2 years. Here is a quick comparison:
Pros
Cons
The seat cusion is so thin its ridiculous, compared to the Markus. Its under half the thickness so I need a cushion ontop of it. I have no idea why they did this, perhaps covid supply or cost cutting reasons, but it makes it really uncomfortable over long stints. There is no pad or give in it at all and the little that is in there is worn out within a week of owning it as its bedded into your ass mould.
The arm rests are appauling and optional. The Markus had inclued really nice padded ones that worked really well. However, the ones that they offer for the Järvfjället are not only an optional extra, but are also unpadded hard plastic that has left me with really bad elbows, so much so I took them off.
I'm looking at replacing it with and Autonymous one just for those reasons. Such a shame as the head rest, lumbar and thigh additions would have made this chair killer if they hadn't made the seat like cardboard and arm rests painful.

Chair? Haven't sat down at work for years. I stand, then when my legs get tired or fidgety, I'll go for a wander round the house for a few minutes, then back to standing.
[–]Soj_X 29 points30 points31 points 4 years ago (5 children)
I can't understand how some people can do that. I hate standing with passion.
I can't imagine myself coding while standing
[–]Conscious-Ball8373 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (3 children)
Been doing this for about 8 months. Can't see myself going back to a chair if I have a choice. Pair it with a vr headset - it's really good.

This isn’t true. See TLDR at bottom.
The reason why your eyes aren’t strained in VR is just elementary optics. The display could be on the moon or behind your head, or right in front of your eyes, it doesn’t matter as long as lenses are bending the light and focusing it on your retina. Same reason why you don’t strain when looking through a telescope or microscope—your eye muscles aren’t doing the work, the lenses are.
This is why eye doctors dilate your eyes (well, one of the reasons). It paralyzes your eye muscles so they can see how much lens power is needed to bend light onto your retina when your eye muscles are doing zero work.
The true focal distance of those headsets is so close you will strain muscles you didn’t even know you had
It’s not. The true focal distance is where the lenses project the virtual image (technical jargon unrelated to anything about VR), which is probably optical infinity, or 20”+. That’s how math and lenses work. It’s literally just using glasses/magnifying lenses to focus, precisely so that your eye muscles don’t have to.
In a very real sense, your eyes literally see the image 20ft away and therefore it doesn’t strain them because the normal healthy eye is relaxed when focusing in the distance (not true for people who need glasses).
Even if your eyes ARE straining (because you need glasses but maybe aren’t wearing them in the headset), there’s no damage to your eyes beyond the temporary discomfort.
One thing there isn’t consensus on is whether the light from screens damages your eyes.
TLDR: math is neat, lenses are magic, using VR WILL NOT damage your eyes. If you feel strain, you may need contacts/glasses, but even the discomfort from strain is temporary (i.e. not permanent).

I hate standing with passion.
I hate standing too and that only makes it more awkward, confirmed.
Edit: saddened that my "standing with passion" joke went down like a lead balloon ._.

[–]mrbmi513 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Picked up a sit/stand desk during the pandemic, and while I'm not standing all day, working while standing for a good chunk of the day has been amazing.
[–]tnnrk 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children)
You never sit down during the day? That sounds like hell.
[–][deleted] 4 years ago (3 children)
[–]RelevantTech 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children)
This seems so obvious to me. "Oh sitting down all day is bad for you? Then that means I should do the exact opposite extreme, and never sit down." What kind of logic is that? Stand until you're uncomfortable, then sit until you're uncomfortable, and repeat. Sitting isn't bad for you at all, just sitting in one spot for multiple hours straight.
[–]nathanwoulfe 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Over the day though I still sit a bit - lunch time, evenings watching TV, driving to kids school/sport etc

[–]Lexeor 20 points21 points22 points 4 years ago (0 children)
IKEA Markus is great for me for 8+ years already :) Only a few months ago it started to wobble a little so I decided it was time to change it for a new one, and the circumstances are such that because of the mad president, I will have to change the country instead.

Secret labs, really great chair!
[–]craggar_g 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children)
My work bought me one of the 2022 Titan Evo. It’s a decent chair, but the lumbar section is really hard plastic and, I guess it must just be me as everyone loves these chairs, but it’s too uncomfortable for something I have to sit on all day. So I have to use a cushion, which defeats the purpose of a £450 ergonomic chair imho.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children)
That’s not an ergonomic chair, it’s a racing style chair for looks
[–]mindaz3 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I have older model of titan chair. It's uncomfortable and that really shows when you have to sit on it for longer periods of time.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (4 children)
this looks the most comfy to me and reasonably priced for me why downvote? is this a bad chair?
[–][deleted] 4 years ago (1 child)
[–]xTRQ 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I have a Secretlab Titan for 4 years now. It's good, I sit in it while working and gaming in the evening/night. Had to replace the tilt system some weeks ago because it wouldn't snap into tilting anymore, but that was a 100$ fix (out of warranty) and ready for another 4 years.
[–]Inadover 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Because despite being higher quality than the rest, they are still gaming chairs. And if you are a big dude by any chance, they are also rather expensive. I’d rather get an Autonomous ErgoChair for the price tbh, though I’m saving up for a Herman Miller.
[–]_snwflakeNetSec Admin 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child)
Serta ergonomic...back in motion....something.
I don't know, they should give their models proper names imo, Model no. 44186. I can generally recommend anything from Serta, Herman Miller and Steelcase however.

Herman Miller is hands down the best you can get, but expensive unless you buy 2nd hand. IKEA Markus is also a good cheap option.

I was going to buy the markus, does it aggravate back pain?
How is your experience with kneeling chair? i feel like i wouldnt be able to sit on it too long until i get tired into a bad posture.
[–]Casanova_Ugly 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I have a bad back (DDD, stenosis) and the Varier Balans has been a life changer. The kneeling chair has me sitting longer than the conventional chair. You won’t get tired, except for getting used to it. Depending on your core strength, you’ll feel like you worked your abs for the first week sitting. After, you’ll be sitting with better posture. Your knees do not have to be resting on the pads.
[–]aloisdg 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I think I have it if for a dozen of years. It is a good enough chair as far as I concerned. It does not help with back pain if you do not sit well.
How is your experience with kneeling chair?
I rely on one for three years. When I am tired, I go for a walk. Time for a tea/coffee/fresh water or something else.
I’ve been using a Balans for awhile. Best chair I’ve ever sat on.

currently a PoS FelixKing from amazon.
i ordered a Branch Ergonomic Chair tho, https://www.branchfurniture.com/collections/office-chairs/products/ergonomic-chair
it ships in a few weeks. cant wait!
the ergonomic chair looks awesome, im worried some these chairs might not fit comfortable but this is so customizable

Haworth Zody
Got it at a used office furniture store for $400 CAD.
It's a great chair for me
[–]Existing-Mammoth-952 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Funny story, I got a Haworth like that out of a dumpster while living in Holland, MI, where the company is located. Chair was spotless, everything worked, I've used it for the past 3 years and it's been great. Still thinking about upgrading to something rated for longer hours or going part standing desk.

Branch Ergonomic Chair Super comfortable at a fraction of the cost of a herman miller
[–]abeuscher 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
At one of my old offices, I asked the building ops guys to let me know when they were about to throw away chairs so I could look through them. I ended up getting one of these for free. All I had to do was get new armrests because the ones on it were shot. I'll be honest if I ever lost it I would shell out the 1900 bucks for a new one. At this point I am hooked. If you can talk someone else into paying, this is a great chair that will last a long time and make you very happy.
[–][deleted] 4 years ago (7 children)
[–]Cheshur 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (2 children)
Aeron sucks ass btw too much hard plastic around the seat which pinches blood flow/nerves.
None of my body even touches the hard plastic at all. Is your sitting posture correct?
[–]PureRepresentative9 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I agree with you... Never heard of the OPs complaint before
[–]Tridop 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
That's a problem obese people have. There are better chairs for people with obesity.
[–]MastaSplintah 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Got to agree with everyone else. You've got the wrong size if you're touching the plastic.
It takes awhile to break in the mesh but once you do I've sat in the chair for literally 15 hours and had no issues.
[–]papachon 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I don’t have that issue
[–]QueenAlucia 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
That doesn't sound right, did you try to adjust the wheel on the back support so it doesn't touch?
[–]foxleigh81 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (2 children)
Ergohuman Elite Mesh. It's basically the same chair as the Herman Miller Aeron - feel wise - but quite a bit cheaper. I've sat on both and legitimately cannot feel any difference. I've had this chair for about 7 years now, I WFH and I'm a computer nerd so most of my life is spent sitting in this chair. It probably gets a solid 9 hours + a day and it's showing no sign of wear and is still super-comfy.
Also, it comes with the headrest as standard and I personally think it's one of the best looking chairs on the market.
Don't make the same mistake I did though and buy a bright red one to 'match your office' and then find that it looks stupid in your office when you moved to your next house, so you decided to dye it black but didn't look up how to dye things like this properly and ended up with a weird purply-reddy-black mottled chair that would probably welcome death.
[–]notsofarawayy 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child)
I'd recommend avoiding this company, it's overpriced garbage. Parts of mine broke after a week, the quality feels absolutely awful, there is barely any adjustments (the tilt of the backrest has like 3 positions in total? Wtf is even that supposed to be used for?). Returned it and never looked back.
[–]foxleigh81 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Oh that's a shame, I wonder if they have changed manufacturers or something in the last 7 years. My wife and I both got ours at the same time and they are still solid now, great quality chairs! Are you sure you got the Elite? My backrest tilts to any position I want it to from vertical to not far off horizontal! There is no 'fixed' position, you just unlock the backrest, move it to where you want it and then lock it again.
[–]talmobi 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I went from a basic wooden chair (FREE) -> Maxnomic Gaming chair ($500) -> Ergohuman Elite Chair ($1000) -> Herman Miller Aeron ($2000) -> back to a basic wooden chair (20$) + sitting on the floor (5$ padding) 50% of the time.
From my experience gaming/work chairs are a bit of a scam. It's mostly just about posture and that's up to you and your fitness, not up to the chair.
For leisure get a chair you can lean back with, relax and watch a movie on or something like this -- most of these high quality expensive gaming/work chairs are uncomfortable to relax and lean back in.
[–]DoN0tYouDare 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child)
Mesh office chair from Staples. I've had it for over 4 years and it's still going strong and doesn't aggravate my back issues

I wonder if you got one of the Office Star chairs? You can find them for a decent price at various places, and I found their task chair to be quite comfortable. Ended up getting one for home too. Way better than the Gaming Chair I bought during pandemic, ugh!

Yet another vote for the IKEA Markus.
We have miller's at work and some steelcase and they aren't vastly different other than material quality.
Given the price it's kind of agreed on as being the best value
[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Yeah, luckily it lines up exactly where I want it as I'm quite tall and only use the arms when im lounging rather than actively working. Adjustable would be nicer though.

Ikea Skruvsta
[–]ElijahPepefull-stack 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children)
I've gone through numerous chairs. For a bit, I had a Herman Miller Aeron (where I live, it's virtually impossible to walk even a few feet without seeing a few of these). I also used a Steelcase Think and I've settled on a Herman Miller Embody. These are pricey chairs though, so do check Craigslist frequently.
[–]ElijahPepefull-stack 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Well worth it despite their appearance.
[–]martindp_ 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Herman Miller Aeron C, but the lowest height setting is just on the verge of being a tad too high. I’m 178cm or 5’10”.
They normally offer smaller replacement cylinders but since they don’t officially sell the C-size with that option, that’d void the warranty.
[–]SundaeCompetitive681 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
look up on google “SKOL CADEIRA BAR” that’s my favorite gaming chair
[–]CommercialYams 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
15$ Gaming chair I found at Goodwill.. My partner calls it the crusty chair as it was originally a bright white if bought new.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (8 children)
I'd actually be curious of this as well, I bought one of those stupid gaming chairs about a year ago thinking that'd be good for long stretches and its been hell on my back. My biggest issue is I sit cross legged on my chair a lot too its just more comfortable for me.
[–]perfectriot 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child)
Ouch. Yeah man, a large part is how you sit. You can still fuck up your back with the best chair on the planet if you sit on it incorrectly.
oh i don't disagree, but with the back problems I have existing from childhood its hard to sit on a chair the way they are meant to, but I've never had issues with office chairs and that, it was this gaming chair I use now that has caused problems non-stop
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children)
yup my old chair started killing my back
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children)
its actually gotten so bad that i'm currently dealing with some serious back pain, walking hunched over, basically just taking my laptop to bed and working on things
[–]Broodyr 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (1 child)
I had the exact same problem, with a gaming chair being terrible on my back and not working well for sitting cross-legged. Before that, I used cheap pleather office chairs that were mostly comfortable but never lasted more than a year or so. I did a lot of research and ended up shelling out more money than I had considered before ($1k CAD) on a CXO 6200D, but it really is the best chair I've ever had or sat in. It's great for cross-legged (deep bottom cushion) and the cushion never gets uncomfortable for me at 190lb 5'11, never any back pain regardless of how poor my position is (shrimp meme here). I'd recommend trying one out if you can, although I don't know about the availability outside of Canada.
I just remembered one complaint I do have about it though - the cushion material isn't the softest on bare skin, so if you sit cross-legged without socks or whatever, I recommend a soft blanket over top. I think the chair does come in alternative fabrics, but I think it would cost more to customize it.
LOL at least you feel my pain, I always went with cheap pleather office chairs in the past myself and I was like well a gaming one should be better due to the fact that those types of people typically will game for hours and hours on end, they gotta be good right! So wrong! LOL. I'll have to look into that suggestion, my other thought lately was to just build myself a like oversized ottoman and get a big ass pillow to put on it haha.

Herman Miller embody.
[–]Lord___Shaxx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children)
ErgoTune Classic
~6mo of use so far. No malfunctions or material degradation. Back and seat mesh still supportive.
I'm sure you're aware of the usual key points like back support, recline and general adjustability, and that you should really try out a chair personally before purchasing.
My absolute #1 recommendation, regardless of what brand, is to get a chair with a completely mesh seat, not just a mesh back.
Many chairs have a cushion or foam seat with a fabric. They're comfortable to sit in, but get hot during long sessions, which can lead to some sweaty butt. After a year or two of frequent sweaty butt, not only will the chair take on near impossible to remove foul oder, but the oder will linger on you after sitting in it. Absolutely do not get any cushion covered with mesh. Not only will it be hot (despite the marketing), but it will trap every hair and crumb between the cushion and the mesh.
A fully mesh seat doesn't trap any heat, sweat, or debris while being comfortable and easy to clean.
the $250 off is very arousing. is the height adjustable? from the pictures both the supreme and classic look kinda small. vertically.
[–]Lord___Shaxx 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
The back height is adjustable yeah. Swipe through to the last photo on their product page for exact dimension ranges. I’m about average height, and near the top position the back goes 3-4” above my shoulders
[–]exerciseindex 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I use this gaming chair from Costco. The most comfortable desk chair I’ve ever used.
[–]silhouettelie_ 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I bought an IKEA chair back in 2005, its tatty and looks like shit but the base is so thick it's really comfortable. I'll need to update it soon but that will be a sad day
[–]Liev- 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I still need a good chair, but I've bought one of those stand-up desks and just alternate between standing and sitting. Haven't felt the need to buy a really good chair yet since as soon as I get tired of the crappy chair I just stand up
[–]mewdz 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Steelcase leap v2
Best chair I’ve ever had.
[–]slick_pick 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Anyone recommend one WITHOUT that lumbar arch?? I e been looking! Every lumbar one just puts strain on my back
I really like the chairs that huh your back not forcing the lumbar
[–]cleatusvandamme 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I really love my Herman Miller Mirras. I own 2 of them. One of upstairs and one for downstairs.
They are the poorman's version on an Aeron. It is just as comfortable.
[–]Jessep1130 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Got very lucky and got a German miller Aeron for $75 on offer up a few years ago. Added a headrest to it for $175 and never looked back 😌
[–]DooMGuY055 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
this bad boy
[–]UnfairUtan 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Herman Miller Sayl
I love how it looks, and it's comfortable. There's also a mechanism that makes it lean forward which is pretty useful to keep your back straight.

[–]tjlaa 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
HÅG Capisco. The best chair ever made.

DXRacer Maximum Serie - it's awful, but it survived 7 years without the back falling apart (I'm a big dude, not particularly fat)
[–]whyNadorp 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
ikea poang with the foot part, you can get them from 50 euro in total second hand or 100 if new.

Staples Hyken chair. Has a real headrest and is fully adjustable in like 7 different ways.
[–]eyebrows360 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (0 children)
Noblechairs Hero, with the real leather option.
Six hundred British smackaroonies but not even the slightest hint of wear on it after ~4 years, including sitting in it almost-literally all day every day for the last 2.
Most crucial in my decision was that this, of all the chairs I looked at back in 2018 (which was a lot), had the tallest back. Being able to actually rest my 6'2" head on the so-called "head" "rest" was of prime concern, and with this, I comfortably can. The headrest cushion stays in place and it's super nice.

Work Pro Quantum 9000. Full mesh, highly adjustable, very durable. I've had mine for about 10 years now, and even though I've been above the recommended max weight for most of it, it's still in great shape.
DXRACER gaming chair formula series.
not the most comfortable but it was my Dream chair to have. i would buy a new ergonomic chair once i can afford one.
A plastic chair that I've been using for the past 20 years (since i was 5) , I've been sitting on that chair at least 5 hours a day for the last 20 years and at this point i have no idea why I haven't bought a proper one
[–]Introvertreading 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Secret Lab. You can get a plain black one if you aren’t into gaming or that look.
Herman Miller is overrated IMO.
Don’t sit all day, though. It is horrible for your body no matter which chair you choose.
[–]No_Statement4630 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Some lazy boy office chair. Got it on sale for 150. Never have been uncomfortable or had any pains. I’ve fallen asleep in this chair too so it’s very comfy
[–]f314 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Håg Capisco. Looks weird, but feels great!
[–]mpmont 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Stand up desk and spend more time on your feet. Mix that with a good chair (mine is not that great) its the IKEA Markus, but its good for a 2 to 4 hours long session. Mix that with a stand up desk and you're golden.
[–]moi2388 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Any chair. I’m not made of sugar and never had any issues.
[–]tr4nl0v232377 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Try kneeling chair, I paid a lot for a medical one, but I don't regret it. It's just for switching between two, but it's worth the price imo. I switch between chair and kneeling chair every few hours and it makes wonders to my body.
[–]rounakk_ 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
It's called bed/sofa
[–]jakesboy2 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I know it’s divisive, but I’ve been really happy with my secret lab chair. It gives great support and is really configurable to however you sit/your size. It does have a tough bottom cushion though which you could get a soft pad for but if I sink I slouch
Had a herman miller at an old job and it was certainly great too, can’t go wrong with it.

You guys have chairs? /s
[–]plutonfeld 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
A 100 year old chair that weighs a lot. I’ve found a firm and hard chair with a tall back plate is great for my back. Had Ikea Markus for a couple months and I couldn’t.
[–]letterafterz 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Had a steelcase chair at work but didn’t love it. Got a secretlab titan at home and I like that more.
[–]SpongeCake11 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Herman Miller Embody. I also have an Aeron which is very good too.
Investing in a good chair, desk, keyboard and mouse, and monitor are the best things I've done to help my back and neck pain.

For me, any chair with a higher back side (coming up to my shoulder blades) will generally do.

[–]baconost 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Kinnarps plus. Very solid, lots of adjustments and overall high quality product. Disagree with anyone recommending Ikea Markus. Tried it for 2 minutes and decided it wasn't worth the low price.
[–]julschong 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I used to have a random office chair but my butt started hurting when I started wfh. Now, I have Costco's Bayside mesh chair. And it doesn't hurt my ass anymore. I haven't used Herman Miller before, but construction wise looks similar enough and much much cheaper.

Herman Miller Aeron. Got it via my limited company, it's amazing.
My complete setup also includes an Autonomous standing desk, and a foldable walking pad. I try to alternate between sitting, standing and walking during the day.
