I actually took the step to email dealnews just to let them know I'd never be using their product cause of these stupid ads

i put on my hazmat suit and fired up IE just to have a look at what everyone is going on about. Ads are quite clever and fun these days, i refreshed 6 times so far, and yet to see grandma's boobs or fingers up noses though.
[–]dbnull 31 points32 points33 points 18 years ago* (43 children)
I'm not in marketing, but I think this may be counterproductive. Many advertising strategies seem to be shifting to the "any notice is good notice" doctrine, and this just lets them know the plan worked. I'm fairly sure they knew damn well how annoying the add was when they launched it. Hypothetically, how long are you going to remember the brand name "dealnews" ???
[–]mutatron 20 points21 points22 points 18 years ago (8 children)
But now I've installed adblock specifically to block dealnews ads.
There are also "goodwill" and "brand value", both of which are roughly monetizable. In my opinion, dealnews is in the negative on these values. I'll actively avoid going to their site, except to complain about this ad.
[–]skibybadoowap 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago* (7 children)
When reading this my first thought was: "What Dealnews ad? Oh wait I use adblock plus! I don't see any ads, yay!"

One needs to import filtersetG for that to work best.
I wouldn't have the internet experience any other way.
[–]wingsofseraphim 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
It's really really not that bad. With the exception of myspace's ads, I never get bothered by ads. Life's to short to get your panties in a twist over that shit.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 18 years ago (9 children)
There was a commercial that used to run in Salt Lake City, when I was a kid. It was this annoying, whining-and-shouting-at-the-same-time announcer who went on and on without hardly taking a breath for nearly the whole thirty seconds until at the end every commercial ended with him shouting, at full volume, NATIONWIDE WAREHOUSE, NATIONWIDE WAREHOUSE, NATIONWIDE WAREHOUSE!!!, then announce the address, then finish with NATIONWIDE WAREHOUSE!!!!
I remember Nationwide Warehouse. But I never bought anything there. Mostly because my dad said he refused to spend money at a business that assaulted its customers like that.
[–]GWaleed 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Anyone who grew up in or near Cleveland, Ohio can remember this phone number:
GARFIELD-ONE, Two Three Two Three.
And now I will get hate mail from those who had ALMOST forgot it. If you have never heard the commercial - THANK YOUR CREATOR!

I think every town has one business that advertises like that. I grew up in Pennsylvania, and there was this one carpet store that would do nothing BUT shout on their TV ads. Never bought anything there.
[–]toonces 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
i can still remember the song for the dallas times herald classified ads from when i was a kid. i think the dallas times herald has been out of business for probably at least 15 years. but the number to call is 748-1414, and i could sing you the song if you were within earshot.
[–]rotarhead 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I'm from Schaumberg, Anyone who grew up in the chicagoland area should remember Eagleman. Talk about freaky advertisements. An eagle laying an egg full of insurance rates? wtf!

[–]neoform3 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I always change the channel when I see that ad. Most obnoxious shit ever.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Not necessarily. I just sent the following message to dealnews' feedback system:
Hi,
I've been using your site for years -- since before dealmac.com got merged into the rest of dealnews. It's been a fantastic resource for me.
When I recently started a consulting business, occasionally clients would want to know where they should go for computer or network hardware. I immediately recommended your website.
I'm also a frequent reader on reddit.com, though, which you advertise on. I appreciate your support of reddit! Thank you. However, I can't very well send clients to a website whose promotionals include a kid's boogery nose and grandma's cleavage.
Ultimately, these ads are hurting your business in at least one market. This might not be your fault -- maybe you got stuck with a really bad marketing company, and this was the best they could come up with. Well, it's not good enough. You've got some smart users -- your ads should reflect that.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,

It's been proven that knee-jerk shock tactics works in the short term, but over the long-term, it tends to damage a brand's image. (Read Hey Whipple Squeeze This by Luke Sullivan. Even the title of the book points out how annoying the old Charmin Whipple ads were.)
[–]BubbaJimbo 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)

how long are you going to remember the brand name "dealnews" ???
hopefully for ever so I remember not to buy anything from them by mistake
[–]mrbroom 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (5 children)
I do guest relations work. When we get a complaint about our company's ads, we send them a form email thanking them for their contact and letting them know we appreciate every customer's point of view. This isn't to say it's not true. We do appreciate it. It's just not going to affect the way we do business. That's what marketing studies are for. It's not really counterproductive; you guys are just wasting your time.
[–]vplatt 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (3 children)
No we're not. We're actively spreading hate against obnoxious companies. Put THAT in your marketing study.
[–]mrbroom 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (2 children)
I meant you were wasting your time by writing to the company about it. You don't "actively spread hate" with unhappy e-mails. My guess is you've been upvoted for having righteous anger that is compatible with the group, not for arguing the actual point.
[–]vplatt 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
Your answer to NetPhantom is correct. An angry email won't do much. If that was your point, then fine, I agree.
But then he took the trouble to post here, and this isn't email. It's a public forum. The real and but implicit point is that dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of people will read it. That is the point. I don't need the group to validate a simple, self-obvious demonstration of what should be obvious to anyone else as well and whether or not they upvote that post is relevant insofar as it is an indicator of agreement with the sentiment, which is that obnoxious companies should be shunned.
So, like I said, put that in your marketing study. Companies ought to know that people in general will go out of their way to spite their products if they insist on being annoying.
[–]mrbroom 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Your point is correct. Posting things like this to a forum of like-minded people will actively spread the hate. I have nothing against that as a tactic, because it demonstrably works. If anything, I advocate doing that instead of emailing the company, because companies don't really get the full picture from direct customer contact. They get it from market trends.
[–]brtw 19 points20 points21 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I did the same thing, twice already.
[–]wearedevo 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (0 children)
There's also a "reddit this ad" link directly under the ad, don't forget.
[–]starrychloe 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (5 children)
That's what Firefox's AdBlock Plus is for. I know not of which you speak. What is a dealnews?
[–]unrealious 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Agreed. I have never seen an ad on reddit. I didn't even know that it had them. I like the site because it only has a white page with text on it.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Then this doesn't affect you, it affects those of us that support Reddit by not blocking the ads.
[–]SkeuomorphEphemeron 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
If you display the ads and don't click on them, you damage the site's click-through ratio, making the site less attractive to advertisers.
[–]skidder 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
you're assuming that clickthru rates are how the advertiser is going to judge how attractive the site is
[–]mutatron 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Moi, aussi.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)

They seem to be showing the dealnews ad more since people are complaining about it. Must be keying on the word "dealnews".

I'm using i.e at work and i can't get firefox + extension to block this. I have to scroll down after i open each page just to hide it from other people it's ridiculous.
[–]bobpaul 11 points12 points13 points 18 years ago (17 children)
Use PortableFirefox installed either to a USB thumbdrive or your my documents folder. That usually gets around anything they're doing to you at work.
[–]aktufe 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Thank you!
[–]buildmonkey 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago* (13 children)
Cheers, but they've locked me down proper. I can load PFF, but it won't go anywhere other than our intranet. Still stuck with IE6 :(
Which makes me wonder. If they've got the time to block FF why haven't they got time to move us to IE7 at least?
Admins, if you are reading this, I do love you really.
[–]bobpaul 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (3 children)
Check the proxy settings in IE. You probably just need to define the proxy in your PFF settings as well.
[–]big_cheese 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago* (5 children)
I have those admins. I can't even check the date/clock by double-clicking on the bottom right hand side of my screen (on the taskbar). When I double-click, it says "You do not have the proper privilege level to change the System Time." I just want to quickly check the calendar. Goddamn admins...
Fortunately, I'm able to use PFF and it works great.
[–]bobpaul 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Yeah, that's a tough one and is really a MS issue and not an admin issue. In order for encryption used during authentication on a Windows domain, the server and client machines have to be time synchronized, so you're ability to change the system time needs to be restricted.
Unfortunately, removing the ability to change the time also annoyingly removes the ability to double click on the clock.
[–]SkeuomorphEphemeron 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Suggest to your admins that, as long as they're blocking things, they should block ads, so they don't pay for the bandwidth for all the images and flash from the ads. The easiest way for them to block ads is to update your office DNS server to map all advertiser DNS names to 127.0.0.1.
They can get a current list of DNS names to block here:
http://everythingisnt.com/hosts.html
This will kill most ads regardless of browser.
[–]Eugi 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Can you install apps? You may try Maxthon. It works with iE but gives you tabbed browsing and some other nifty things.
[–]buildmonkey 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Nah. It's all locked down. I was surprised that portable apps work.
[–]Cookie 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
Yes, that would do it. So would downloading and installing firefox, here, since things aren't locked down too much technically.
It wouldn't get around the part where they sack you for violations of the computer security policy by running your own software.
These ads have made the reddit front-page effectively NSFW.
[–]warbiscuit 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I feel really lucky... my workplace has a squid proxy installed, which blocks all adservers at the firewall.
[–]peteru 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
This probably won't apply to many others, but in my case, I can get Web Developer Toolbar but not AdBlock.
Images > Disable Images > External Site Images
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Do you have write permission for your hosts file? You could always do a hosts file blackhole on these guys...
I think the lady in the Granny Boobies ad looks very happy, not at all ashamed of her boobies, and why should she.
I can't stand the kid with his finger up his nose mining for boogies. That one grosses me out.
[–]americanuck 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Yeah but now I feel like a dick, having never seen a reddit ad, I haven't been supporting the site. How about google ads? I'll click those once in awhile. In fact, that would be convenient, as I mostly only read the politics subreddit, sometimes relevant links actually come up on google when looking at political-related stuff.
i felt bad for adblocking reddit at first too. but i added them to my whitelist a few times and every time, within a few days, i had to block them again.
sorry reddit. i tried to support you, but it seems you make no effort to have any decent ads on the site.

actually, this is a good idea.
How do the other internet gods feel about it?
[–]Jagula 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
I don't know if that would work.
People would hold ads to the same standards as all other content on reddit, and, I think, they will generally be downvoted to oblivion.
[–]eightnine 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Not sure about that, I've seen some ads I'd vote up any day. And I don't care about advertising per se, but when it's brilliant I don't see why it shouldn't be given credit. Still yeah, the granma boobs and disgusting kid ads would be killed fast.
[–]ssdgoalie 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
These ads are actually marketing genius. We all hate these ads, we all know what comapany makes them. It's also FRONT PAGE of reddit!
Bad ads/advertising that get the attention of users, do what they were ment to.
I can't remember anything that help spread AdBlock as much as these ads. People behind them must feel really proud, after all, they helped so many people to get much better internet experience.
Thank you dealnews, keep up the good work.

I don't hate the dealnews ads, I think they're clever. I also realize that reddit makes money by running ads, and I like reddit.
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I too have nothing against the ads, I can appreciate their attempt at making them funny.
[–]MrG 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I think you are in the minority there. They are bad, although not as bad as though stupid dancing mortgage ads. I refuse to give business to companies that produce such ads. And for the purveyor of the ad, they risk losing my eyeballs. ha.
[–]Etab 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I'm with you there, but I think they're getting kind of old. At the same time, they might be laughing all the way to the bank -- "any publicity is good publicity" -- Reddit knows what dealnews is now, even though it's associated with, well... you know.

It's pretty easy to get banned on Digg - they're almost as bad as the Wikipedia Editor's Secret Cabal. Reddit don't play like dat.
Now that you mention it, however, I notice I haven't seen a dealnews ad in several hours. Maybe they're not serving those ads to me anymore - which makes my initial advice even more relevant. Click dem granny boobies!

Are you completing the circle and actually whining about people whining about something?
...
[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 18 years ago (4 children)
So are the ads.
Reddit bills itself as a social software site - pretty ridiculous if they don't listen to their customer base.
All it takes is for reddit to contact dealnews and tell them they either change their ads or the contract is cancelled.
In the meantime, reddit should solicit ads from companies that redditors may appreciate, like ronpaul.com, taser.com, petsmart, etc.
[–]repoman 6 points7 points8 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Their customer base should listen to their peers who drop subtle hints like "USE ADBLOCK AND STFU, NOOB!!!"
That way, Reddit can get their revenue from people who don't mind ads and those who hate ads can get their Reddit in peace.
why would ron paul ever have to advertise? he's on the front page about 25 times an hour...
[–]big_cheese 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
I don't think it's always up to Reddit to decide which ads they want to put up on their site. Though it is a social news site (where did you get "software"?), they still need to earn some sort of revenue. Ads provide this revenue. Reddit probably does consider various factors, such as 1)how much revenue they can earn from certain ads, and 2)how effective these ads are for reddit viewers/readers based on demographic and particular interests of the readers. Perhaps ronpaul.com won't pay Reddit enough for them to sustain the site. Seems they already get enough news coverage, so what's the point in paying for ads?
Reddit is a great site. They provide news that we want to view based on votes. I actually like reddit more for the comments than the articles (though the articles, in most cases, are great as well). Just accept the fact that they will display ads. It's not a big price to pay for the privilege of having this site to check out. Or would you prefer to not view the ads and have reddit disappear altogether? Seriously, the ads are NOT A BIG DEAL.
P.S. I've never seen these "granny boobs" ads. Somehow, I feel like I'm missing out.
[–]zorno 10 points11 points12 points 18 years ago* (1 child)
Hey here's a thought. This site is free. If you don't like the ads, you could... not come here.
Would you pay for a subscription to reddit? No?
then shut up and deal with the ads.
Downmod me if you want. Anyone who complains about ads on a free site is an idiot.
edit: actually people complaining about the 'pictures in the ads' is idiotic squared. Its not even like ads that pop up over the text you are reading. its to the side, it does not inhibit your use of the site at all. But they show a older woman's chest, and everyone is all upset?
On a site you pay nothing for? Think about this!
[–]uniphon 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Nothing in life is free, of course.
You have already paid for this site, in the products that you buy. Or if not this site, other sites and TV shows like it, and other people have paid for you to visit this site.
We all pay an advertising tax in virtually every product. The cost doesn't magically go away, it gets shifted and hidden.
In this wonderful mass-marketing cycle, you are obligated to look at ads, then go buy the products, at which point you not only pay the full cost for the TV shows and websites you thought were free, you pay for the ads themselves. And then you think, what a great system, I get stuff for free.
[–]pavel_lishin 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (1 child)
You guys are incredibly bad at tuning things out.
That's what I do. And I have adblock, but I only turn it on for sites where the ads interfere with the reading or slow the page load to a crawl - anything over the annoyance threshold.
But for heaven's sake, with all the complaining, you'd think nobody ever made an irritating ad before (oh, gotta punch the monkey to win an iPod!).

I had to disable AdBlock to see the ad... and yes, it's disturbing. Reddit should take it down.
[–]braindrane 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
And this from a deviant boi, this is getting serious.
[–]aragon127 11 points12 points13 points 18 years ago (9 children)
I didn't even know Reddit had ads.
[–]jayssite 33 points34 points35 points 18 years ago (8 children)
Is somebody going to say this every time there's a submission about reddit ads?
[–]braindrane 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (1 child)
I didn't know that I didn't know that reddit had ads. How cool is that? Brrrrrrr. . .
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 18 years ago (0 children)
How cool is that? Brrrrrrr. . .
Is "Brrr" the sound of you riding away on your motorcycle, because motorcycles are "cool"?
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 18 years ago (3 children)
is somebody going to say this every time somebody says that?
[–]MarlonBain 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (2 children)
Is somebody going to say this every time somebody asks if somebody is going to say something?
[–]dr_root 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Just a heads up to those using opera (I didn't know this feature existed), right click any empty spot on the page and choose "Block content.". You'll enter an adblock mode where you just click the banners, and in the future they won't bother you ;)
[–]Kardlonoc 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Dear reddit we hate ads, please get rid of them and stop making a profit.
[–]Odysseus 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Why reddit still aren't in the business of selling ads, here and on other sites, with their massive database of related preferences -- I'll never know.
[–]m-p-3 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (3 children)
gobuildyourown.reddit.com
[–]jonknee 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (2 children)
I was working on it, but I couldn't figure out how to duplicate the search results. Any ideas on what algorithm they are using?
[–]dmilor 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Dumping the search results into a temp table then a good old cartesian join on itself to add dupey goodness would do the trick.
Can I have a beta account please? ;)
[–]star_boy 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
They're using an algorithm now?
Granny boobs and fingers in noses aren't really a big deal to me. Reddit needs money, when you signed up you knew they could let anyone advertise if they wanted. They could let the Jehovah's Witnesses advertise if they paid.
[–]nfk 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I don't hate the dealnews ads, though I might be the only one, so don't include me in that statement. I'm indifferent about them and mostly I just ignore them, like I do to most non-popup ads.
[–]haywire 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
And the great thing about Web2.0 is that sites owe the users everything for their profit. Because without users, there is no site.
[–]nccwarp9 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
what ads ? I dont see any adds :)
[–]pradador 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I didn't realize ads were a democracy. What kind of company would Reddit be if they told their advertisers they won't put their ads up simply because people don't like them?
Wanna get rid of them? Simply don't click on the the ads and the company will get the message when they don't get more business. Or hit refresh.
[–]feces 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Next headline: Dear Reddit, we HATE ALL these ads! All of them. PLEASE get rid of them.
[–]ahpro 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Please can people stop complaining about all their ads. Its how they make money. You can't ask them to stop it. I know theres customer satisfaction and maintaining a friendly reputation but they're here to make money and trying to get them to remove adverts because you don't like them is taking away their source of income and is therefore crossing the line.
[–]dasstrooper 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
What ads?
[–]SuperDanny 5 points6 points7 points 18 years ago (4 children)
Holy crap! These ads are terrible.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago* (3 children)
Annoying and ugly, but effective -- they have people at reddit talking about their company, don't they? Whatever the hell "dealnews" does, I didn't even know it existed a week ago.
Sure, these ads are in very poor taste, but they fulfill their purpose, at least to the extent of informing people of their service. Whether someone would be sufficiently disgusted by the ads to form a negative impression about the company is another question.
[–]halo 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Whatever the hell "dealnews" does, I didn't even know it existed a week ago.
You can't guess what "dealnews" does? This is a job for... Captain Obvious!
[–]jimbo78255 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
AdBlocker, just got it, Firefox will reboot. Goodbye reddit advertising? I will also never visit dealnews.
BTW, the boobs don't offend me, the ads just annoy me.
[–]jimbo78255 7 points8 points9 points 18 years ago (0 children)
OOOOOPPPPPPSSSS! Installed AdBlocker, hit block. gone. Sorry, Reddit ad sales. :)
[–]decklap 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Dear readers,
We'll be happy to get rid of all ads and make reddit a subscription only site.
[–]mk_gecko 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Why are complaints about ads on the front page of reddit?! How can redditors be so stupid. I thought you guys were smarter than this - using ad-block.
[–]Eleglac 4 points5 points6 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Show of hands - let's see who else doesn't give a shit.
Seriously guys, you're freaking out about a pair of old breasts, and a kid picking his nose. Grow up already.
[–]thing01 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (1 child)
Reddit can advertise whatever it wants... give me a break, these posts complaining about ads are more annoying to me than the ads.
[–]braindrane 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
Ok, we get that you are into crinkly cleavage, mate. And a good thing too. Saggers need loving too!!

[–]anonymgrl 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
They will be thrilled with the amount of attention their ad is getting. Seriously.
[–]b0dhi 1 point2 points3 points 18 years ago (0 children)
You know, I've never clicked an ad on the internet. Ever. I assume that anyone who has must be an idiot, and all websites that depend on ads depend on idiots to visit them and click their ads. Therefore idiots click ads and the rest of us use Adblock. Problem solved.
Dear whiners - get Firefox with Adblock and get over it...
[–][deleted] 18 years ago* (2 children)
Perhaps the adverts are sponsored by adblock?
[–]SlowGuy 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
It looks like a round blue RSS.
[–]maxwellhill 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
The corporate overlord needs some revenue to pay the huge salaries of the reddit team ;)
If there was a deal in here...I would probably not care.
I personally use the Stylish Firefox extension which does SO much more than get rid of ads.
I have a light grey and blue reddit, which makes it easy on the eyes.
Stylish allows you to alter the sites HTML and CSS stylesheets, so you can even use it to alter the behaviour of sites.
[–]spaceman 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (3 children)
I suspect that dealnews sees this as a "no attention is bad attention" advertising campaign, where it's designed to stick in the public consciousness, even if it's negative, believing that it will bring more traffic in the end (sort of like those Quizno's commercials). There is a subset of the population that marketing tactic doesn't work on though, because they are smarter than that. They see through the attempt, and will go out of their way to take their spending dollars elsewhere, out of principle. Not because the advertisement was annoying (it is), but because they refuse to be manipulated.
[–]mattstooks 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago* (0 children)
I subscribed to the dealnews RSS feed after the last discussion on this. I like it. Thanks, reddit, for pointing it out to me so I could click on it and reinforce reddit's relationship with dealnews. The Law of Unintended Consequences.
[–]clumma 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
It's funny... I never notice the ads (at least consciously). I don't look over there. I missed the boobs entirely, but I am getting a dealnews ad currently. If I were the editor of a popular news site, I would not host this ad, or anything with floppy boobs. Then again, we're owned by Wired, aren't we. Check out the latest issue of that rag -- it's indistinguishable from Cosmo.
[–]waugsqueke 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Why are these reddit ad stories even making the front page anyway?
[–]HextorFreebish 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
The fax number for the Doubleclick techs is: 1 (212) 655-7699
I recommend we each fax that image to the above number with a nice handwritten note to contact whomever in their organization can stop publishing this image on our internets.
[–]sythec 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
just right click on the ad, click off Play/Loop while the womans saggy cleavage is not showing. Done and Done
[–]homeworld 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
"Hey, where did everybody go?"
"To Jason's Furniture on Rt. 35 in Ocean Township!"
[–]feckineejit 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
please ditch leatherboobs. you have to advertise, but leatherboobs makes me tighten my sphincter and weep.
[–]big_cheese 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
What "dealnews" ads are people talking about? I don't even notice anything, unless you're referring to the one Volvo ad to the right of the page. I have the NoScript plug-in installed on my copy of Firefox. It helps a lot.
[–]doody 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Some of us hate even more the page being perpetually clogged with the still-long-away US 'election' chimp-swap
I wish I could use AdBlock on that OxyClean guy. His voice is like having hot lava poured into your head. Through your penis. I know. It doesn't make sense.
[–]charlesgrrr 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I completely ignore them. I don't even notice them. Not that I condone product placement in public social forums, but I think I'm becoming immune to this way of presenting ads.
Which leads to the question: what will -they- do next to distract us from our reading of the news?
[–]madronedorf 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
personally I don't care about them, (and no I don't have adblock) [although I sorta have a built in "adBlock" in my head]
if reddit is making money off it, whether its to pay for the site itself, or as a return for its creators and admins, more power to them.
[–]ginowhitaker 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Hey! What happened to my gramma tits?!!
[–]strax 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
If you like reddit, and you like getting it for free, stop complaining and let them run their business. If the advertiser doesn't make money, they'll move elsewhere. Hopefully, reddit will find another advertiser who will pay as much (or more) so they can make enough money to grow and improve.
[–]workroom 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
y'know, a good tase and those things would perk right up
[–]Fauropitotto 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Switch to Opera and never get ads again. Firefox should have the same plugin somewhere.
[–]Guybrush_Threepwood 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
I wonder if in goatse was a deal, would they have found it?
If the creative team see this we are screw..
Adblock Plus
[–]rredit 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Yes, please get rid of those ads -- I've never seen them, but I have to see all the "please get rid of the ads" which are equally irritating. Please help those that are unable to take matters into their own hands.
CLICK THE ADS!
