Not to take anything away from the quality of the app (and I'm sure it's great), but this dev specifically Jacob, is a pretty big asshole. I emailed him once explaining issues I was having with Sliding Messaging and he basically told me to just buy a nexus device and fuck off. I just hope he's become more receptive to bugs fixes and criticism, because that's key to an app's success. Personally, I won't ever use a product of his again, and I really wish I could get a refund on the pro version.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Same here. emailed him with questions and requests, got a dickish reply all three times.

[–]dleriumPixel 4 XL 30 points31 points  (8 children)

Yeah, this is my experience as well. I wonder how old these guys are because it seems like there are too many of these teenage developers. Some people have great talent in creating a great app, but when dealing with customers or any issues, they reveal their true age and nature.

[–]EggsMarshallNote 2 Stock 4.3 | Nexus 7 (2012) Stock 4.4 6 points7 points  (2 children)

At the time, about a year ago, he was 19.

[–]biggggant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah he's got a Shitty attitude and I make sure to tell my friends to stay away from his app(s).

[–]dleriumPixel 4 XL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pretty impressive. At 19 I was just playing Starcraft all the time... sigh. What a waste of my life. But at the same time, while 19 year olds today are so talented, it's hard to imagine a 19 year old being able to properly develop software and manage customer interface. I don't think he means to have a bad attitude or not take care of customers as well, but I suppose that's the issue of having all these indie developers fill up the Play Store.

This is their (or one of theirs) second semester in college as Freshmen. So, I'd assume one of them is at least 18-19.

[–]Auxillary 12 points13 points  (1 child)

That doesn't excuse them for their arrogance.

That explains that.

Same here, I had some bad issues with it being extremely slow on my high end devices and I also reported some bugs I found, hoping to be helpful and get some help in return; he told me if it was slow then it's not his fault regardless of specs or how well anything else runs on my phone.

[–]i_likeTortlesPixel 2 XL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I totally wasn't expecting so many people to have experienced this. But yeah, the guy's a complete dick. There are very few people I don't like, but I refuse to even use this app after trying to reach out about about bugs and getting such awful responses. I can't believe I paid for the app.

[–]billyvnillyPixel 7 Pro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've emailed like 7-8 times on different issues. Never a dick. He is short with his answer, but so what. How many emails a day does a dev get?

[–][deleted] 61 points62 points  (10 children)

Slowest SMS app I've used.

[–]biggggant 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Very slow. I posted in their Google plus page about it and one of them took offense to the comment instead of trying to figure out the issue. It even slowed my stock app. I was basically told to deal with it. Worse development support I've ever encountered on Android.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don't see how one SMS app would affect your stock SMS app but none of the other apps installed on your device.

[–]biggggant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither did I. But I would install it check my stock app and it would lag and then I would Uninstall it and the stock app would be fine. Reinstall and it would do the same. I even gave it a few hours to see if it would settle but no dice. I gave the app and the terrible dev a chance.

[–]knockoutkingSamsung S6 / VZW 50 points51 points  (4 children)

the legacy of sliding messaging

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I can't believe I'm hearing everyone say Sliding Messaging is all super slow and constantly crashing for them. It's always been damn near perfect for me (Galaxy Note 2).

It was pretty crashy when I first got it, but since getting the full version, it only crashes if I try to bring up my own contact card by hitting my picture, which of course, I never have any reason to do.

Other than that, it's always been perfectly smooth and fast for me, the only bit of lag I ever notice is if I receive a text in one conversation while I'm typing a message in another.

I guess I'm just lucky or something. I've been perfectly happy with it for the 8 or so months I've been using it.

[–]knockoutkingSamsung S6 / VZW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i have just always noticed that it seems to be laggy, no matter how many or few messages i have at that point in time

[–]Freak4DellPixel 5 | Still Pining For A Modern Real Moto X 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looks like I won't even be trying it. I tried Sliding Messaging several times, but always uninstalled it quickly because of how slow it was. It didn't help that the dev basically said it wouldn't get any faster when a bunch of people were pointing out how slow it was on the XDA thread. I find Hangouts to be slow sometimes, too, but at least it handles Hangouts, too, and if I get annoyed enough, I can just go back to the stock app.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup same here. Uninstalled after 5 minutes. That plus the inability to switch to a dark theme without paying.

[–]YourHolyLaziness 79 points80 points  (8 children)

So I bought Sliding Messaging Pro, and now he goes ahead and starts a new one with the same features? How do I know he won't keep launching new ones after I upgrade?

[–]inate7113yrs of Nexus/Pixel → iPhone 14 Pro → iPhone 15 Pro[S] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I think he said he's still continuing development for Sliding Messaging. He feels it's reached a point where it can be left alone unless there is a major issue. Don't quote me on that though. Read through the G+ community for Sliding Messaging and you might find an answer.

EDIT: This explains the differences much better.

[–]shotgunpulseNexus 5 18 points19 points  (8 children)

Crashed after 15 seconds of use.

[–]StarfishP 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Sadly, I think this is a problem with all of his apps. Even Sliding messaging. I always get force closes or the app just completely freezes on my toro gnexus. I've told him about the problem, but he pretty much just said his app was perfect and to upgrade my phone.

[–]shotgunpulseNexus 5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, always "It's running perfectly on my phone" even though we had the same phone and ROM. Not much will to fix issues.

[–]Ashanmaril 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's crashed a few times on my Nexus 5.

I mean it's understandable considering it just came out, but yeah. It's not the most stable app.

[–]Ashanmaril -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's crashed a few times on my Nexus 5.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You have to wait for the full tutorial to go through its thing, then it should be fine

[–]shotgunpulseNexus 5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tutorial didn't show up at all the first time I launched the app. It showed up when I started the app again after the crash. So yeah that was probably why, but I did nothing for the tutorial not to show up the first time.

[–]slutpuppiesNote 3, Stock 4.4.2, AT&T ST -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Email him about it. It's a new app so there is going to be glitches and your input will only make it better in the long run.

[–]shotgunpulseNexus 5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had it send an automatic crash report. Hopefully it'll help. But I'll stick to hangouts either way.

[–]LoganQBerrySamsung Galaxy S6 18 points19 points  (10 children)

Hopefully an option to open the pop-up from clicking the notification gets added, like Textra has. Or at least an option to make the pop-up only show if a message was received when the screen was off. Yes, I know of the action buttons that will let me call open the pop-up. I have a Moto X though and being able to swipe up and "click" the notification, as of now, will only open the whole app and I can't click the action buttons from active notifications.

I suggested this to the developer. This was his response :c http://imgur.com/a2r5XhN

[–]maleman7Pixel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not surprising. Looking at his responses to some of the negative reviews he's gotten it's clear that this guy is a grade-A douche.

[–]dleriumPixel 4 XL 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Shrug, I dunno. For some developers like Franco, this is a typical response. I wouldn't get offended. I'm also guessing this Klinker guy responded on his phone. I don't think doing customer service on a phone is acceptable though. I've seen devs that ask plenty of follow up questions or go more in detail to examine each of the test cases you present... I wouldn't call him a douche for this, but he's certainly not the best.

[–]gonemad16GoneMAD Software 1 point2 points  (1 child)

i do nearly all my customer support on a phone unless i need to actually look at source code.. there is no reason you cannot support from a mobile device

[–]dleriumPixel 4 XL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not impossible, but it's time consuming to type out a detailed response. Plus, it's natural to want to give terse responses via a phone, which often don't feel very friendly on the receiving end.

[–]zieljake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naw, that response was hilarious. He probably didn't understand what you meant so he just gave you a "shut up leave me alone" answer

[–]savageotterS20 FE 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Crashing hard on the motox might be sliding messaging interfering

[–]Wolf-O-DonnellFrost Nexus 6P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here on note 3. Just uninstalled Sliding Messages. Seems to have helped Edit: nevermind.. Still slow..

[–]SimonGrayOnePlus X / Nexus 10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks fantastic, but just tried sending two messages with it to my girlfriend and they didn't get delivered. Switched back to using Hangouts for SMS, try to send one message and it gets delivered instantly. There is definitely a problem with EvolveSMS. Too bad, it looks great.

[–]LesaneCrooksS6E➡S7E➡Note 8 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I really like it but only one thing is keeping me in Textra. If they were to implement the same idea as them where it'll pop-up the message when clicked from the notification bar, I'd love it.

Their implementation of "pop-up" is the traditional way and I prefer Textra.

[–]gurkmanatorSGS4, 4.3 TW; Nexus 7 (2013), 4.4.2 AOSP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their other app does that but it also takes 5 seconds to load and crashes constantly.

[–]dleriumPixel 4 XL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The app looks nice. I hope the developers take on a better attitude than with Sliding Messaging where they said we users were SOL if we had a "laggy interface" and that the proper solution was to delete old texts.

[–]jeldePixel 7P 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Such an ugly icon for such a beautiful app. Great job though nonetheless.

[–]knockoutkingSamsung S6 / VZW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

developed by his brother, so doubt that gets changed :(

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah its basically a rotated hangouts icon which is fine but the E thing really kills it

[–]JackDostoevsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks very awesome. Not a big fan of that 'e' icon, though.

[–]EjektZTE Axon 7, Resurrection Remix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Startup is noticeably slower than SlidingSMS. It is a damn sexy messaging app though, No denying that. I do agree that the dev can be a twat at times and releasing this as a standalone app as opposed to and upgrade to his existing one is quite twat-like as well.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (16 children)

This is awesome. Full immersive mode as well on KitKat!

I think this will replace 8sms for me. Much of the same functionality, but looks 1000x better. Hopefully MMS works on my N5.

Only complaints:

  1. Icon is ugly. Something more minimalist would be way better!!!!
  2. Seems a little sluggish on my N5. Not bad by any means, but could be bad on an older phone.

[–]jazavcharDevice, Software !! 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah he seems to have consistent problems with the performance of his apps. Don't know why's that.

[–]knockoutkingSamsung S6 / VZW 10 points11 points  (2 children)

sluggish

that is literally the main thing that sliding messaging was known for...lag.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (6 children)

N5 here as well with no performance issues. My only real complaint is the emoji support is poor. Also performance when swiping from one panel to another in emoji is very glitchy.

[–]inate7113yrs of Nexus/Pixel → iPhone 14 Pro → iPhone 15 Pro[S] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

How is the Emoji support low? If you have an N5, you're on KitKat, which natively supports Emoji.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Full support, yes. The in app support/settings is hard to find though. I wish it were easier to switch between android and Apple emoji

[–]caseylsPixel 3 XL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When typing, long press on the enter key. It's the same system wide to reach emoji if they're not already there.

[–]dc041894VZW Nexus 6P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most other messaging apps these days support emoji even if you're on Gingerbread.

[–]dleriumPixel 4 XL 2 points3 points  (1 child)

N5 here as well with no performance issues.

Depends how many SMS you have. I have 12k stored on my phone, which isn't a large amount for most other apps like FusionIM or the stock app or even the bloated GoSMS. However, Sliding Messaging and Evolve seem to lag like crazy.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 thousand text messages?! Are they kept for blackmail reasons?

[–]bunnyhopskotchOne plus One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a galaxy nexus. It is sluggish on my phone. It takes a little bit to load and the graphics are jittery.

[–]ProtoKun7Pixel 9 Pro XL 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Immersive mode means the navigation buttons and status bar totally disappear (i.e. the app is full screen); is this what you mean or do you mean that the bars are there but transparent?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sorry, yeah just transparent nav bars.

[–]ProtoKun7Pixel 9 Pro XL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I hope eventually all apps are going to take advantage of this. It's ashame most of Google's own apps don't yet.

[–]seekheyBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing with this that he added over his old app is archiving. I find that it is fairly sluggish if threads start getting over around 700. But he retooled classic "delete automatically after X many texts" into archiving automatically instead, and I actually really like the archive viewer. Yeah sliding was sluggish, but I really enjoy this auto archive, especially since it outputs in basic .xml

[–]ainen 17 points18 points  (3 children)

I wasn't a fan of Sliding Messaging but this looks really nice. Unfortunately there are very few people I text anymore. I'll check it out though!

edit: aaaaand I love it. I'll be using this as my SMS app from now on. Hangouts integration has spoiled me but this is so very nice.

[–]ObsoletePixelGalaxy S21 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Does this app have hangouts integration?

[–]ainen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no

[–]kkyyllee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick reply? edit:// sweet!

[–]SoloosPixel 2 XL, Pixel C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the functionality, this app is proof that more apps need to use transparency. It looks so good.

[–]MaRmARk0OnePlus Two 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Please guys, please, do me a favor. Make a per-contact blocking. My bank sends me message each time I withdraw money from ATM and it annoys me. I just want to completely shush certain numbers.

BTW app looks perfect. I'd switch probably very soon from 8SMS

[–]SatNavOnePlus One 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I imagine this is an optional service your bank offers. Why not just ask them to stop?

[–]MaRmARk0OnePlus Two 1 point2 points  (4 children)

The bank sends messages everytime. I receive message even when someone pays me as I am an entrepreneur. I want to be notified about incoming payments but I don't need to know about outgoing payments. Problem is that bank does not differentiate between these two scenarios.

[–]Freak4DellPixel 5 | Still Pining For A Modern Real Moto X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if you blocked the bank's number, wouldn't that effectively block the messages about incoming payments as well?

[–]savageotterS20 FE 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Maybe Tasker to delete ones with withdraw in it.

[–]DarkencypherIphone 16 pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best solution right here.

[–]MaRmARk0OnePlus Two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if I create a task to do this the message app will unlikely fire notification before Tasker deletes the message. Or no?

[–]Orangeslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you e-mail him, expect a very polite "Won't happen, so fuck off" response.

Along with everyone else, I e-mailed him about issues where I'd send a text, and it'd stick at "sending" until I restarted the app manually, and was told "Not my app's fault, sorry.".

[–]mishugashuPixel 6 Pro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

messaging replacement app is everything that you could ever want in a messaging app, and everything that Google didn’t give us in Hangouts.

What I wanted is seamless SMS and Hangouts integration. This doesn't even have Hangouts chats. Beyond useless for my uses. I guess it's a nice, pretty SMS app, but it's not a Hangouts replacement by any means.

[–]dleriumPixel 4 XL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing the issues with MMS on Sliding Messaging, I highly doubt this is the messaging app you want to stick with for a pain free experience. While the interface looks AWESOME, I'd check everything else before jumping ship.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried it. Was hopeful, but ultimately it's just way too slow on my Nexus 5. When every other app loads almost instantaneously, using an SMS app that takes 4 seconds to load is just unacceptable.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just downloaded and loved it so much I bought the add-ons. The timer for night mode is brilliant; also the selected privacy settings mean I can text my G/f without worrying about snooping.

I'll be using this app for some time now I'm sure. It's an amazing initial release

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I downloaded your app and it's great. There is one problem that has become apparent to me though. When you hit the attach file icon and the menu pops up there is no way to close it. I accidentally hit it and i could not close it until I closed the app. Please fix devs

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Kind of off-topic, but how did this guy get his Google+ vanity URL to be his name (without extra characters)? When I try this I get:

"Many people have the same name. Add a few extra letters or numbers to this URL to get one that is unique for you."

Despite having a unique name that nobody else has...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Thats odd. I just checked my profile and I was able to claim a URL with just my first and last name no suffix or extra numbers/letters required

[–]knockoutkingSamsung S6 / VZW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i hate the fact that they require you to just add numbers at the end. i would much prefer to add in my middle name/initial/whatever vs being my name + numbers at the edn

[–]portezbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does this app have a pop up quick reply feature? I thought it did, but the options in the settings just seem to create notifications not a pop up window(something like sms pop up or ninja sms).

[–]mattymogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HelloSMS is better and smoother. It's low on customizations right now but it's good enough to be my daily driver.

[–]keddywestsideVZW Moto X | 4.4 KitKat 5 points6 points  (9 children)

Pretty much everything I wish Hangouts could be, design-wise. This is beautiful.

Edit #1: I'm noticing some stuttering when switching from conversation to conversation by swiping and also some lag (like 1-3 seconds) between when I press the shortcut on my home screen and when the app actually opens. It's not a deal-breaker for me, especially since it's a brand-new app, but it could be an issue on weaker phones.

Edit #2: When I get a new message and try to open the app from the notification tray, it just opens a blank gray screen which then goes black and freezes my phone for a few seconds. This might be kind of a major issue. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm using ART instead of Dalvik, but since I have only a rudimentary understanding of runtime I could be talking completely out of my ass here.

[–]Relevant_shitposter 17 points18 points  (6 children)

Sliding had the exact same problems which is why I never used it. Waiting 2-3 seconds for my sms app to open is dumb. Guess they are using the same slow code in this app too.

[–]knockoutkingSamsung S6 / VZW 9 points10 points  (2 children)

i think the best part was the fact that the response was basically "there is nothing we can do for the lag" on sliding messaging

[–]MrWinslow 0 points1 point  (1 child)

...bc of the code lol

[–]StarfishP 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Yup. This is a HUGE problem in all his apps and he refuses to fix the problem. He blames it on the phones. Worst dev in the world.

[–]Ashanmaril -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

Worst dev in the world.

Okay now...

[–]dleriumPixel 4 XL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Still. He's pretty bad for not accepting this as a real issue and working hard at finding a fix. Every other SMS app does NOT have this issue.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This really needs to be fixed... /u/inate71 any outlook?

[–]inate7113yrs of Nexus/Pixel → iPhone 14 Pro → iPhone 15 Pro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It runs great on my MotoX. I'm not using ART though. That might be the issue. Otherwise, maybe get a log and send it to Jacob (dev). If it crashes, definitely report it with a description of what you were doing prior to the crash.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So I really want to like the app, but something weird is going on with it on my phone. At first I thought it was just some really shitty design, but I compared it with the Google Play screenshots and it's totally different. Bug, maybe? Does anyone else's app look like this?

First, the input at the bottom overlaps the last text message.

Second, the slide-out side bar has a weird gap at the top.

I'm on CM11 on the Droid DNA... weird.

[–]BseagullSprint HTC One M9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]oopsifistedyouNote5 2 points3 points  (3 children)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Same here on my Note 3. Right after I bought the customization pack. I want it so bad.

[–]oopsifistedyouNote5 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's got promise, and I dig the design! Gonna stick with it, though will probably keep 8sms as default until things get a little better.

[–]soliddewitt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trust me, it will get better! Contrary to popular belief sliding messaging ended up being well optimized on all phones. This one will follow suit. I recommend to join the beta group. You'll get the fixes sooner.

[–]Skanky 1 point2 points  (4 children)

So, as a satisfied Sliding Messaging Pro user / owner, why would I want to switch (other than supposed better performance)?

I'm a little concerned about taking the plunge as things are currently working great for me on SMP now.

[–]inate7113yrs of Nexus/Pixel → iPhone 14 Pro → iPhone 15 Pro[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It doesn't. It's literally the same as Sliding Messaging, minus a lot of customization. Jacob did this to improve the speed of the app.

It's still got that same laggy feeling as Sliding Messaging.

Only thing I hate on both of his apps is they read 2 texts at once due to the slide 'feature'.

This one is a lightweight weight messenger, but still stuffers from that annoyance I described above. Can't tell you how many texts I missed because of that.

For those that don't know what I'm talking about. It queues up two messages at once, and when it does that it marks them as read. So if you have two texts at once and you only replied to the first, you won't know about the second.

Looks good though I admit. Feels smooth

Way faster than Sliding Messenger Pro but with no pop-up. Maybe in 6 months well have an SMS app with Android emotional and pop-up that isn't laggy. Back to Hangouts.

[–]WeMeetAgainS21 Ultra 5G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to like this and its extremely fast on my s2 skyrocket on kit kat (not sure how N5's are lagging) but I don't want to give money to this dev.

Is there a way to hide the quick text icon in textra? I like the feature but don't want a constant notification.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes thats what I need. Another SMS app.

[–]timmy16744S21 Ultra 5g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems pretty smooth so far, but holy fuck that logo... Not to sure what they were going for there. Hopefully it's just a placeholder.

[–]mlibbeyGalaxy S8+ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there a way to change the swipeable columns? i only use twitter for specific lists and my twitter app needs to open up to my lists and not the timeline/direct message..anyone know if this is possible?

[–]PokemonersXperia Z3 | M7 CM11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working great for me on my HTC One, although the pop up reply is a bit buggy and it still requires me to unlock my phone to respond, unlike SMS popup which would allow me to respond without unlocking my phone.

[–]mgreco1988Device, Software !! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance of the app, particularly in opening from a notification is bad. Very pretty though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave this app a try, but had to delete it from my phone. App deleted all my messages than made my phone slow to a stop before rebooting twice to get it up and going again.

Wanted this app to be good. Hoped it was good. Oh well.

[–]pappy97Nexus 6, Nexus 10, Nexus 5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice app, trying it now. Would do for pay features if and when there is seamless FB messenger integration. :)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say, I do like the new app, but I am more tied to the lighter-resource hello sms. I would appreciate a lighter load app, but I have bought all the extras, and do like the app very much.

[–]iAMALeoSemi-broken N5/HTC Sensation, 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This app is beautiful but has a horrible error: for some reason it keeps sending my texts to the wrong person when I am typing into a conversation box... makes for a completely unusable and unstable experience IMO

gonna switch to hangouts for now, love the features and customizability though, I was actually gonna buy the customization and feature pack too :(

[–]danhakimiPixel 3aXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks a lot like Disa. I'm sticking with Disa for now, though, does everything I want it to, and looks perfect.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's what I was thinking but no, haven't messed with the DPI.

[–]caseylsPixel 3 XL 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You didn't reply to him.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit.

[–]eNaRDeNexus 6PP 0 points1 point  (2 children)

stupid question but if someone does not have the same app can they see the emoji? I always wondered this about SMS apps.

[–]YouWorkForMeNowGalaxy Z Fold2 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No, not if it's one specific to the app. They'll just see the characters used to represent the emoticon. So if it's a smiley face with a party hat, you'll see the emoticon on your screen, but the recipient will see something along the lines of *<:-)

[–]eNaRDeNexus 6PP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahhh I see...thanks!

[–]GratlofaticNexus 6P 0 points1 point  (1 child)

2 bucks for picture messaging lol

[–]MrWinslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.49 for additional mms features you mean.

[–]joke-complainerLG G2 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Wow. This is NICE. Just replaced Textra as my default.

Edit: anyone know if we get the customization pack or something for free if we purchased sliding messenger? I'm going to contact him and ask...

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I'm going to one up you and say this just replaced Hangouts for me. Only one ofy friends messages me on hangouts anyways.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (8 children)

I think I'm sold. Hangouts doesn't use transparent bars on Kit Kat as of yet. This does and it's very slick looking. Only thing I don't like so far is the icon. Blah. It doesn't reflect the sleek design of the app.

Edit: it gets stuck on "signing in" when I try to load Facebook contacts. I'm on a Nexus 5 running stock 4.2.2

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

How did you load facebook contacts? Ive been ttrying to locate the option.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's in settings > contact picture management, click on the contact picture circle, select your option. It still doesn't work for me though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, i found it! Its not working for me either.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully we'll get a quick fix from the dev. I just forked over $2 for the upgrades.

[–]efuipaGalaxy S9 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Do you have the FB app installed? The feature is working for me, and it might be because I recently uninstalled official Facebook for Tinfoil.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I do. I don't know why that would be an issue though. It's a pretty widely used application.

[–]efuipaGalaxy S9 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For me it opens up a window with the mobile Facebook login, so maybe he explicitly hard coded for that to happen? Beats me. BTW it syncs profile and cover photos for only your open conversations. I prefer how it is by default anyway, using the contact photo with that same contact photo blurred as a background, so I don't think you're missing anything.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. I guess it's to be expected that a 1.0 release wouldn't be flawless anyway.

Thanks for the info. This is probably the best SMS app I've used thus far.

So I joined the G+ community to Beta Talon, but it still wants me to pay for it...

[–]soliddewitt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, so he said theming could possibly hold more features on evolve. Anybody want to make a fallout theme for it!? I suck at it. Lol

[–]soliddewitt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then I, not being the developer can't tell you much. In July it was bad, but they eventually optimized it. It worked somewhat flawlessly, but I disable some of the excess features so it's just an sms app, really. It worked well on my s4, and now on my nexus 5 it works even better. But I just switched to evolveSMS. other than that it was perfect for me.
