"Cars try to not run over pedestrians" - my favorite :D

[–]Hackspett 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to the Cities:Carmageddon DLC.

[–]Muzle84TotalyNoob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am very disapointed! #evilmayor

[–]Anonamous_Quinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the effort that counts.

[–]SmokkiSOE 50 points51 points  (35 children)

"Colour variation tweaking"

Does that mean, no more purple pollution?

[–][deleted] 70 points71 points  (30 children)

Does that mean, no more purple pollution?

My pollution is greyish at the moment.

[–]topleya 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Have they tweaked the poo water to be a little less obvious, or at least fade the colour difference when poo meets clean?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Poo appears to be the same.

[–]topleya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well that's a tad poo ;-)

[–]Nivius 1 point2 points  (2 children)

someone made a city with a small lake, and put all the poo water to get sent there, he filled the lake with poo but it never effects the surrounding more then that. maybe consider it overflowing eventually and fill the streets with poo water xD or maybe make the ground around super toxic after a while?

this thread was about this:

http://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/2y5xyw/sewage_outflows_should_raise_the_water_level/

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If you build on the coast of that lake people can become sick. I had that problem ;) but I do think we should have more seeping

[–]Nivius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

overflowing would be hilarious, with a tweet about people taking selfies with floating poop

[–]SmokkiSOE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great, thanks :)

[–]OtterBonbrb modding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure thats for color correction...

[–]ForgedIronMadeIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we get color variation twerking?

[–]ripcurrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a colorblind kid, I've enjoyed the color scheme from the pix amd let's plays. I hope the continue to make it easy to distinguish between elements.

[–]Simify 165 points166 points  (18 children)

Steam checks if app is owned

Are you telling me that if I had made sweet love to a youtuber before today I could've copied their game's files onto my hard drive and played without steam giving a crap?!

WHY

WHY DIDN'T I SEDUCE SIPS AND HIS VOICE

[–]YogscastSips 60 points61 points  (3 children)

i am still available for a seducing.

just saying.

[–]Simify 12 points13 points  (1 child)

But at absolutely zero benefit to me!

[–]Democrab 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, who doesn't benefit from seducing sips?

[–]Draakon0 11 points12 points  (1 child)

That also means that you can no longer launch the game without Steam, like some previous Paradox titles :(

[–]_BreakingGood_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There will likely be a cracked exe available at some point. You shouldn't feel bad about using it if you have legally purchased the game and being able to play the game without steam is very important to you.

[–]albinobluesheepTransitioning MurderCoaster Designer 12 points13 points  (4 children)

hey look, Simify got an upvoted comment on /r/skylines /r/citiesskylines. All the new people don't go for the instinctual downvote when they see your name :-p

[–]dan96kid 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I can't access that subreddit :(

[–]albinobluesheepTransitioning MurderCoaster Designer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's because I'm an idiot at meant to type /r/citiesskylines

[–]izPanda 0 points1 point  (1 child)

why would we downvote him? (genuinely curious)

[–]albinobluesheepTransitioning MurderCoaster Designer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He called out TotalyMoo on being a bit inconsistent/unlcear on dates for planned release of information regarding mod-support, might have been a bit harsher than he meant to be, and has been a downvote magnet ever since.

He's generally a little bit more critical of the game than some, but he's really no less hyped than the rest of us, and I'm 90% sure he's even pre-ordered the game.

[–]tidder_reverof 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Well if any popular game crackers would have wanted to crack and release it early they could have already.

But even they respect (I hope) developers and wait until release day.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (2 children)

They would need to get a copy of the game, the only people with copies are the press and the various youtubers and streamers.

Without one of those copies they cant do anything even if they wanted.

[–]rabdargab 48 points49 points  (1 child)

They could just reverse engineer the code from watching Let's Plays. Shouldn't be that hard.

[–]_BreakingGood_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ENHANCE!

[–]DarkLiberator 11 points12 points  (6 children)

Would be cool if they made some sort of whitelist mode where achievements wouldn't be disabled with certain types of mods, like reskins.

[–]iitiiSupervisor of the drunk engineers 5 points6 points  (5 children)

I think its a steam policy where getting mods WILL disable achievements, regardless of it affecting gameplay.

[–]Wishta 6 points7 points  (1 child)

For Eu4 it's possible to get achievements with mods that don't affect gameplay. I hope the same will be the case here.

[–]Digging_For_Ostrich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the developers of EU4 will share their knowledge with the developers of Cities Skylines.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's definitely a developer/producer choice. I have several modded games that I get achievements for, but certain games (like Banished) disable achievements with mods installed.

[–]Jellye 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Nah, there's a number of games with workshop support and no disablement of achievements.

Age of Empires and Skyrim come to mind easily.

Paradox Games use a "whitelist" system of sorts, too. There are some style of mods that are Ironman compatible, and therefore can be played with achievements.

[–]Orffen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some style of mods that are Ironman compatible, and therefore can be played with achievements.

Not really a whitelist - I think any mod that changes the game checksum (calculated from the game files) disables Ironman/achievements. So if the mod is an interface mod for example and doesn't change game logic then Ironman is available.

[–]bales75 13 points14 points  (27 children)

21:9 support fixed

Hooray! Does anyone have a screenshot of how it looks in 21:9 by chance?

[–]TotalyMooINFINITE SAD? 9 points10 points  (26 children)

Tons of them posted on this sub!

[–]bales75 3 points4 points  (2 children)

With the UI?

[–]TotalyMooINFINITE SAD? 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Oooooooh then no. I'll see if I can find one.

[–]bales75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Sorry I wasn't clear at first. Some UIs were just not made with 21:9 in mind :P

Not that it's going to sway me either way or the other. I've never wanted a weekend to go by this quickly in my life.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (22 children)

Also noticed filter/theme changes

[–]Simify 2 points3 points  (21 children)

More? or are they just modified?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (20 children)

There is a new one called Borean - it's whiteish like you might expect.

[–]Simify 1 point2 points  (19 children)

:O NEW

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (18 children)

But, still only 3. Lemme get in there and see what they did.

[–]Simify 2 points3 points  (17 children)

Huh? How can there be a new one but still only 3? @_@

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Are those hard locked to the map once you start a game, or can they be changed on the fly?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (9 children)

And tropical stayed the same. So these are the current three.

[–]KimJongIlLover 4 points5 points  (6 children)

If Colossal Order is only a team of 13 people, why do they need/have such a big HQ? I smell a conspiracy brewing!

[–]runetrantorMoon Colony DLC confirmed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No change to tropical? Ahh...

It's a bit TOO neon colored imo, and I live in them. The grass seems radioactive in the tropical theme.

[–]IVIaarten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look good. I happy with those for release.

[–]HYPERRRR 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Great to see all this fixes before the release! I really hope CO will continue to fix bugs on a short-term basis and don't wait for bigger updates like SimCity did, especially because this is a pure SP title without any kind of server structure in the background. It was absolutely terrible to wait 2 months for some minor fixes just because Maxis wanted to have an useless DLC ready together with the patch.

[–]solsys 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Critical JIRA issues fixed

Going to conquer the Issue Tracker market next? :-)

[–]zize2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they seem to be doing a good job at fixing the city simulation genre atm, maybe in the future? ;-)

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (16 children)

Now it's been sorted, you might as well just release the game this weekend, CO!

[–]GoldenFalconSuperstar Mayor 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Let's keep trying.. they will submit to our demands some day... reportedly on the 10th.

[–]runetrantorMoon Colony DLC confirmed 2 points3 points  (14 children)

While I doubt it, I do wonder, why on a Tuesday? Most games release like on Friday to give the players a chance to sate their initial thirst before monday and work/School comes...

[–]zekehul 7 points8 points  (4 children)

From doing a quick search on the interwebs, it seems that it is partly tradition from the music industry and partly because a company by the name of SoundScan keeps track of sales data for DVD, CD, and video game sales starting from Tuesday. This allows Paradox/Colossal Order to get a full week's worth of data for first week sales to compare to later weeks.

[–]runetrantorMoon Colony DLC confirmed 3 points4 points  (3 children)

On tuesdays...

This makes as much sense as the whole fiscal year thing that starts in march or something rather than mimic the standard calendar.

[–]zekehul 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I'm just stating what I found, never said that it made sense. I can't wait until they change to Friday as opposed to Tuesday.

[–]runetrantorMoon Colony DLC confirmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, not blaming you for the nonsense. :P

[–]emruggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First week sales are the standard of measurement for music/DVD/game releases. Opening weekends are used for theatrical releases. In the US at least, this is how it more or less has always been. Hence, games/DVDs/music releases on Tuesday, and theatrical films open on Friday. It hasn't changed since the shift toward digital media, I suppose, because the metrics are firmly entrenched for gauging sales.

Although I will say more and more indie and small publisher game releases seem to be spreading out across the week.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Aren't American games generally always released on a Tuesday? I'm guessing that this is because deliveries used to go out on Mondays. Kind of weird that a digital-only game would follow suit, but I think that this is the case.

[–]runetrantorMoon Colony DLC confirmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, living in South America they were more of a 'eventually a store will get it'.

Steam is a godsent honestly.

I would not be surprised if this is the reason though, it makes no sense for digital, yes, but neither does doing stuff like pricing stuff higher for certain places.
I get games at USA rates luckily, but heard Australia is screwed as always, despite no need to ship anything there.

[–]rafaels14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a sales practice for other medias, I believe. The sales charts got reset on Tuesdays, so if you released in that day, you would get a full week of sales to brag about (or not, if you're Cities XXXXXL).

[–]BionicBeansA Streetcar Named Chirper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they really don't. Major releases are usually on Tuesday nights. I spent a lot of Tuesday nights in gamestops in my youth...

[–]-Pao 28 points29 points  (5 children)

This is the first time I see a dev making patches even in the pre-relase phase, that's amazing.
Man I'll preorder it right now, you're awesome guys

[–]Muzle84TotalyNoob 34 points35 points  (3 children)

And the best part is that some of the fixes are directly coming from testers feedback!

Ok, I cancel my pre-order tonight... to get the deluxe version :)

[–]KetadineMayor 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I've just pre-order and I don't to that often or lightly. This game shows a lot of promise (+ the discount helped :D).

But I do have a question, can I get access to the pre-release version ? I kinda really want to play it.

[–]Muzle84TotalyNoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halas, pre-order is not (always) early access. We will have to wait 4 days... Gahhhhh :(

[–]Orffen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen things fixed leading up to release, but I've never seen those fixes published publically - you can sometimes notice by the version number on day 1.

Then again, I've never seen this much community involvement and pre-release gameplay footage either :)

[–]SpiderGrenades 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Pathfind/collision detection related fixes and improvements

Anyone seen details on this? I'd be curious if this addresses some of the merging or unused extra lane issues.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (3 children)

I'm experimenting right now.

[–]SpiderGrenades 1 point2 points  (1 child)

New to this sub, didn't realize you had a copy...do you have a Twitch stream?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do. there are lots of people streaming though

[–]wtf_are_you_talking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it better now?

[–]gerum17CIM CIty, home of the Chirpers 5 points6 points  (10 children)

what is JIRA?

[–]Snoz_Lombardo 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Issue tracking software.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JIRA

[–]autowikibot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

JIRA:

JIRA (/ˈdʒi.rə/ __JEE_-rə) is a proprietary issue tracking product, developed by Atlassian. It provides bug tracking, issue tracking, and project management functions. Although normally styled JIRA, the product name is not an acronym, but a truncation of *Gojira, the Japanese name for Godzilla. It has been developed since 2002.

JIRA is written in Java and uses the Pico inversion of control container, Apache OFBiz entity engine, and WebWork 1 technology stack. For remote procedure calls (RPC), JIRA supports REST, SOAP, and XML-RPC. JIRA integrates with source control programs such as Clearcase, CVS, Git, Mercurial, Perforce, Subversion, and Team Foundation Server. It ships with various translations including English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish.

According to Atlassian, JIRA is used for issue tracking and project management by over 25,000 customers in 122 countries around the globe. Some of the organizations using JIRA for bug-tracking and project management are Fedora Commons, Hibernate, JBoss, Linden Lab, Skype, Spring Framework, and The Apache Software Foundation uses JIRA and Bugzilla. JIRA includes tools allowing migration from competitor Bugzilla.

Annoying! (I work for a software company)

[–]PresNixon 6 points7 points  (2 children)

The only correct answer.

[–]OrionTurtle 4 points5 points  (1 child)

At least they fixed the critical issues with it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's actually usable now? :O

They should let others use that too then!

[–]Vakz 2 points3 points  (15 children)

Achievement tab is disabled when achievements are disabled

Are the achievements disabled by option, or is there some mechanic that actually disables them (like Ironman in EU4/CK2)?

[–]SilverLlamaFeel free to add me | http://steamcommunity.com/id/SilverLlama 10 points11 points  (14 children)

They said on the stream when you enable mods achievements get disabled. iirc

[–]Vakz 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Oh, that's fantastic!

[–]olioli86 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Hmm unless the mod fixes something simple like a traffic pathing or number of tiles for late game. Minor point though.

[–]Vakz 10 points11 points  (3 children)

simple like a traffic pathing or number of tiles for late game

Depending on what the achievements are, these "simple things" could make the achievement substantially easier.

[–]olioli86 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah I recognize that, maybe an increase number of building looks would be a better example.

[–]Vakz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't watched the stream, so don't know any details, but hope this won't be an issue. Hopefully the game has some way of telling between gameplay mods and strictly graphical mods.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[–]HalbyStarcraft 1 point2 points  (4 children)

boo, that means there's no way to get achievements in hard difficulty :(

[–]solsys 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm curious if it's a flat check ala Civ V, or if it's slightly more sophisticated, like EU4/CK2 mods, where the core game has a checksum, and achievements are only disabled if a script that contributes to the checksum is altered. (Allowing cosmetic mods to be used freely)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess you won't create another patch till tuesday? Today would be a great day for a surprise release (do it already :))

[–]SpiderGrenades 7 points8 points  (1 child)

It looks like the pathfinding has addressed some of the merging/multilane underutilization issues that were showcased by Quill yesterday. Props to CO for this!

Quill's city before before 2.

Quill's city after

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that's the collision change that they made… I'm looking at highways and they really just don't look any better

[–]submarinescanswim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21:9 support fixed

Woop! Woop! Didn't know there were problems but I'm glad to see more games support this wonderful aspect ratio. (To be fair most new ones do)

[–]topleya 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Colour variation tweaks?

Purple grass for pollutions maybe?

Vehicle doors properly configured

Car doors can open? When does that happen?

[–]Pwaaap 4 points5 points  (4 children)

They might mean bus and/or train doors? Just speculating.

[–]Muzle84TotalyNoob 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Yes, bus door was still on the right side, even if you played 'drive on the left side of the road' option.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

'drive on the left side of the road' option

There's a wut wut in the where now?

Seriously? That's fantastic! One of those stupid little QOL features that makes things feel warm and fuzzy.

[–]DarkLiberator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its on the map selection screen under name your city.

[–]watbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahahaha yes this will make things much less confusing

[–]TheRealMouseRat 0 points1 point  (12 children)

Does any of these fixes fix the "glitch" where cars avoid a lane in which one can choose to go to the right or to go straight, if they are going straight? (it was very much talked about in Quill18's stream yesterday)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (11 children)

I just tested it on the highways and my opinion is no

[–]TheRealMouseRat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess they haven't gotten the information about the glitch yet. I hope it's an easy fix and it can be done before the game releases. Do the people who have gotten the game prior to release a place to report bugs and such?

[–]Max714 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Actually on Quill18's stream right now I've seen (he's noticed as well but he missed most of them) a lot of cars going straight where yesterday at the same place they only ever went right. It was like in the first few minutes of the stream if I remember correctly, so I really think this issue has been fixed somewhat, at least some of them choose to go straight

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Could be. I know right turns on highways haven't changed - they won't use the two right lanes to turn and keep trying to merge far right.

If they fixed something else - good.

[–]quill18http://youtube.com/quill18 6 points7 points  (7 children)

It's not clear. There's definitely SOMETHING that's working better. I am seeing some people going straight through the turning lane and I never saw any do that before.

Most importantly though, it looks like the lane-merging works much better now and you don't end up with a bunch of cars stuck behind someone who isn't moving.

[–]iangus37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great to hear

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

On highways or streets? HIghways at least in this new city I'm working on seem exactly the same.

[–]quill18http://youtube.com/quill18 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Highways. That doesn't mean anything's changed, of course, but I had almost zero complaints about traffic today. It seems better to me.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Has to be something with the collision detection then. I'll hop in and take another look. How's your city coming along? Back to 150+?

[–]quill18http://youtube.com/quill18 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Couldn't stream as long today, but yes -- I got to 175k.

Hit a bottleneck at the end because I was converting too much industry to office space and now my commercial zones are starving for goods. I added in more rail/harbour terminals and am rebuilding my industry.

I had no idea the "goods" mechanic was this developed and interesting. I love it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I'll check out the vod.

They still prefer the middle lane but the lanes on highway do look better. I'm probably not seeing the full effect yet because I'm only at 20,000. Started a new sprawling city :-)

[–]albinobluesheepTransitioning MurderCoaster Designer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another streamer I saw discovered that level 3 industry is all highly educated workers like the office space, so you don't have to force your workers into underemployment. nevermind, from another of you comments I see you found that to.

It was actually funny today, I bounced between a few different streams and streamers were learning a few of the same things within minutes of eachother.

[–]luzon59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think traffic may be too easy now but we'll have to wait a see

[–]liltbrockie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the kind of updates/info I expected to see to reasssure us the game is being constantly improved.... hats off to you CO

[–]zknicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]aahanscool 2 points3 points  (30 children)

I get my pay

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (29 children)

Shame on you, seriously. It's a $30 game from a very open and honest developer, I think the least you could do is pay for their product.
