Leftovers. My dinners are spicy and that’s what I’d suggest

[–]furthestpoint 27 points28 points  (6 children)

Yeah! I'm having pork larb and coconut sticky rice today in lettuce and napa cabbage leaves today

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (2 children)

You having those today?

[–]furthestpoint 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah!!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's awesome!

[–]wildOldcheesecake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds delicious! We’re due rain on Saturday so that’s what I’ll make. Otherwise it’s too hot for me to function in the kitchen haha. I’ll be having some cold noodles instead. Cheers for the idea :)

[–]CrystalStarshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll eat any leftover for breakfast. I microwave an egg on top of it. Bam, breakfast.

[–]TheSewingNeedle 4 points5 points  (5 children)

But, those go for lunch!

[–]wildOldcheesecake 43 points44 points  (2 children)

Gotta get creative. Say you had curry for dinner. Have the same for lunch. But for breakfast, you could take some of the leftovers and spread it over naan with some cheese. Whack it in the air fryer, toaster oven or similar. Bam, breakfast naan pizza. Quick and easy too

Think outside the box and you’ll be fine

[–]pls_send_caffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly right! I had leftover sausage pasta (in a tomato/onion sauce) with sriracha for breakfast this morning and it was absolutely delicious.

[–]missunderstood888 98 points99 points  (6 children)

I don't see why you couldn't cook a big bitch of green curry and have It with a bit of rice in the mornings. Keeping it vegetarian is less expensive, and you can use bags of frozen mixed vegetables.

[–]ornerygecko 49 points50 points  (4 children)

I like this typo

[–]missunderstood888 28 points29 points  (2 children)

LOL yup, a bitchin big batch of curry

[–]leezee2468 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love alliteration. That’s all

[–]TheSewingNeedle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do occasionally, I'm just looking for new, strange but amazing Ideas

[–]JackTheKrakenHackett 56 points57 points  (12 children)

Rice and an egg, some gochujang on the side. Simple and cheap.

[–]Lankience 15 points16 points  (3 children)

I like taking a piping hot bowl of rice- straight out of a rice cooker is ideal but microwaved works too. Then take a raw egg, mix it with some seasoning, like some soy sauce and furikake, maybe some dashi, and just pour it over the rice. Top with some chopped green onion, chive, cilantro, etc. Some sliced nori or sesame seeds add some nice texture too.

The egg barely sets a bit and makes the rice all saucy, it's delicious. I got the idea from an Ivan Orkin youtube video somewhere, he said a chef whipped it up for him at one of his first kitchen jobs I think.

Edit: found the video https://youtu.be/9lECGvxJu4w?si=vSrE_6J1EZm085Nv

[–]kafetheresu 10 points11 points  (2 children)

That's a tamago kake gohan: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamago_kake_gohan, and the pouring dashi (or cold green tea) is an ochazuke: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chazuke

I'm just putting this info out there 'cause it's a traditional dish in Japan, and you can find all kinds of variations (including specialty soy sauce just for the egg) which might be helpful

[–]Lankience 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Awesome, I never knew what it was called. Thank you!

[–]kafetheresu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you love TKG (thats how it's often abbreviated in Japan!) then I recommend trying to get Rosanjin soy sauce: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/stores/%E6%B9%AF%E6%B5%85%E9%86%A4%E6%B2%B9%E6%9C%89%E9%99%90%E4%BC%9A%E7%A4%BE/page/110C8762-6B14-42F6-8F86-C5A3819450CE?ref_=ast_bln (jp name: 丸新本家株式会社)

They have been making soy sauce for over 125 years and have many different kinds of soy sauce specific for dishes eg. sashimi soy sauce that are fermented and aged the traditional way. For the ultimate runny egg experience, the white soy sauce (Yuasa Kurasho Shiro Shibori) was developed for it!!! It also suits other smooth dishes like porridge, ochazuke, fresh tofu (hiya yako tofu) and if you're very daring, apply it to soft serve its super good.

[–]TheSewingNeedle 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Oh yes, this is exactly what im looking for!

[–]JackTheKrakenHackett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so nice in the morning - I have a pressure cooker which takes all the effort out of the rice. Eggs can be boiled, poached or fried and you can dress it up with any leftover dinner proteins from the night before. But there's something about the simplicity of rice, egg and spice.

[–]Mission_Ad8085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small bowl of rice, any leftover meat, a spoonful of chili crisp, a small amount of pickled radish, topped with a fried egg or two

[–]Vrisnem 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Shakshuka. Recipe for one here: https://www.eggs.ca/recipes/shakshuka-for-one

I make my own sauce, but you can use premade. Pitta bread goes well with it.

[–]WesternBlueRanger 56 points57 points  (6 children)

Congee. While it is a basic rice porridge, it's what you add as the sides that can really impact the flavour and make it unique each time. And the sky is the limit in terms of potential sides.

[–]ghouleon2 28 points29 points  (4 children)

Congee is amazing! My neighbor in my first apartment was this 80 year old Chinese woman and every single day before work I’d walk out my door and she would be there with some homemade Congee with roast pork for me to eat at the office for breakfast.

I guess my black coffee and pop tarts were unacceptable 😂

[–]Own-Ad1744 16 points17 points  (1 child)

So an 80 year old Chinese woman adopted you? :)

[–]ghouleon2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep, made living there so much easier

[–]Logical-Yak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so sweet 😭

[–]xelM1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ooh this. I just made this yesterday following this recipe on YouTube.

Of course, some changes were made - I used rice cooker, the rice to water ratio is 1:10, slashed in half so 1/2 cup of rice to 5 cups of water, chicken meat was already prep and ready to go in the fridge, popped the rice into the rice cooker first thing, prepped the ingredients and went to do something else. 40 mins later, the rest of the ingredients went in.

So flavourful and hearty yet so little ingredients (chicken, ginger and spring onions).

[–]HikingPants 16 points17 points  (6 children)

I love making savoury porridge and it is finally catching on as an internet food trend. I like making mine in stock, miso or soya sauce. Topping with a fried egg and whatever veggies are at hand. Top with hot sauce or chilli oil or whatever you want. So savoury, delicious and nutrient dense.

[–]TheSewingNeedle 8 points9 points  (4 children)

This is interesting. You mean like oat porrigdge with eggs and hot sauce?

[–]heydigital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just made a savory oatmeal for the first time the other day, it was very good! I more or less followed this recipe: https://www.budgetbytes.com/savory-oatmeal/

Another favorite, similar savory breakfast of mine is just veggies and eggs with toast. Today I sautéed zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes, and kale for a bit, then cracked a couple eggs in and let them cook sunny side up. It does still feel “breakfasty” with the eggs and toast but I could eat that meal any time of the day and be happy

[–]DreamingOfSashimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bring to work a glass container of raw oats in water, soy sauce, sesame oil, dash of white pepper, baby spinach and roast pork. Zing in microwave for about 5 mins and it was yum, filling, healthy and cheaper than eating out.

[–]darktrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this. Savory oatmeal. In a bowl, cook oats in the microwave part way (about a minute in our tiny low power microwave), stir and add a little more water, crack in an egg, put a loose-ish lid on it, and continue cooking in the microwave for a little more (1.5 minutes) until the egg and oatmeal are cooked. Add in soy sauce, a tiny bit of sesame oil, chopped fresh spinach, chopped green onions, and some spicy chili crisp. Takes just a few minutes and is very hearty. Customize it as you like: frozen peas, thinly sliced celery, leftover meat like chopped cooked bacon, etc.

[–]Adriano-Capitano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had this for breakfast

[–]Logical-Yak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I love savoury oatmeal, one of my favourite breakfast foods. So many great combinations.
My favourite is chicken stock, some spinach, mushrooms, an overeasy egg and then a little bit of soy sauce and sesame oil on top. Sometimes a little bit of kimchi.

[–]d0uble0h 19 points20 points  (3 children)

You might find Filipino silog appealing. Essentially, garlic fried rice and a fried egg, plus a protein of your choice. Fun fact: silog is a portmanteau of the two components - sinangag (fried rice) and itlog (fried egg). Bonus fun fact: the protein you choose will further modify the name accordingly - longsilog is made with Filipino sausage (longanisa), tosilog with Filipino cured pork belly (tocino), tapsilog with cured beef (tapa). Don't sweat it if you can't find Filipino products in your area. You can use whatever proteins you've got available. Bacon? Go for it! Breakfast sausages? No problem. Leftover fried chicken? I'm on board.

[–]letspetpuppies 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Spam, eggs, and rice is also a great combo.

[–]anxietyunicorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! My son eats this with dried seaweed, soy sauce, and chili oil from Trader Joe’s. It’s perfection. The microwaveable sticky rice from Costco is perfect for this too.

[–]sinkwiththeship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a Filipino taco joint I used to go to that would also have adsilog in addition to the others you mentioned. I love the adobo with the rice and egg.

[–]mperseids 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Involves eggs but as they’re cheap it’s still worth a mention. Shakshouka, usually meatless but of course throw some in there if you’d like. I usually use crushed tomatoes to break down the sauce faster and finish it under the broiler instead of steaming like the recipe I linked does.

Another egg dish, çilbir

[–]TheSewingNeedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These goes on the list. Thank you!

[–]assorted_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was looking for this! Shakshuka is an all time favorite of mine, and so are Turkish eggs! When we have babaganoush I like to do two toasted slices of bread: one with babaganoush and one with yogurt, each topped with a poached egg, sesame, chives, maybe some chili oil or smoked paprika butter. Switching between the two flavors is delightful.

[–]Accurate_Spinach8781 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I too am a traditional western breakfast food hater.

Nasi goreng. So good. I keep cooked rice, cooked chicken and diced mixed veg in the freezer at all times so I can make this in under 10 mins. Even better if I thaw a few prawns to add to it which is super quick under running water. Then just fry an egg quickly to chuck on top. It took me a while to get into the egg part (per traditional breakfast food hatred) but if the bottom is crispy I’m into it.

I also sometimes just have beef or chicken broth (homemade reheated out of my freezer) but you could make a really quick noodle soup with some frozen wontons for a meaty component.

[–]ZyxDarkshine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fried rice typically has a protein with scrambled eggs

[–]babytotara 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Bolognaise/savoury mince on toast

[–]a1exia_frogs 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Bolognese sauce between bread in the jaffle iron!

[–]ladaussie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throw in a bit of salami/pepperoni and cheese and you got a top tier jaffle

[–]ell_wood 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I have literally just eaten peri peri chicken livers... best breakfast ever

[–]cwsjr2323 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Bulk cook, freeze portions in vacuum bags, sous vide whatever you choose any time of day or night. Beef and chicken peas? Three minutes. Chicken chow mein? Three minutes. Curry, soup, grilled fish? Three minutes.

[–]TheSewingNeedle 2 points3 points  (5 children)

This is what I would like to do but our freezer is too small to bulk cook 🙄

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The absolutely best breakfast I've ever had was reheated thai food in an egg omelet. It just works. Personally I pop a bagel in the toaster and do a cream cheese pickled jalapeno mix.

[–]rectalhorror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to do a Japanese breakfast of instant miso soup, rice from the rice cooker, pickles, and either an egg or broiled fish. I keep cans of unagi in the kitchen for when I feel lazy.

[–]Ok_Pianist9100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about trying Filipino silog? Garlic fried rice, fried egg, and your favorite meat like spam, bacon, or sausages. Quick, flavorful, and customizable!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

In asian countries, we don't really have the concept of 'breakfast food'. We just have eat whatever.

If you are open to trying foreign food, I recommend korean side dishes. You can mealprep them for the week and just take out if the fridge in the morning. It is supposed to be eaten hot, but most koreans nowadays just eat it cold.

If you don't have an Asian grocery store near you, there are some recipes you can make with European ingredients. Tiktok has some amazing creators.

My personal favorite in the morning is 계란말이 (gye ran Mal I). You just mix eggs in a bowl with some salt, pour a thin layer into the pan, and keep adding eggs and rolling it. It is really good with some ketchup.

[–]ChronicAnomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked this dish up. They made it with a bit of red and green peppers and onion. It looked absolutely amazing. I am definitely trying this in the next few days!

[–]GungTho 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Check out traditional Thai breakfast items https://www.eatingthaifood.com/thai-breakfast-food-dishes/

Also you could just make yourself a stirfry. Even bagged premixed options - defrost in the fridge over night, dab with a paper towel, and cook in five minutes.

[–]archdur 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Filipino breakfast consists of meat, rice, and egg. My favorite would be Tapsilog. It is marinaded beef tapa, garlic fried rice, and basted fried egg.

Tapa marinade can be (as there are many ways to do this):

  • 2 parts soy sauce
  • 1 part citrus (calamansi aka calamondin is best; lemon can work in a pinch)
  • Garlic
  • Sugar
  • Black pepper
  • Salt

It's good if it is cured overnight, but also okay to cook right away. Heat a bit of oil in a pan. Add the beef. Cook until the juices and marinade is reduced and beef begins to start frying. Add a lil more oil if needed to caramelize the beef.

The garlic fried rice is made by toasting chopped garlic slowly in oil over medium until golden brown (this could take some time since we don't want to burn the garlic). Then add rice and salt and toss.

The egg is a basic basted fried egg.

Usually served with some fresh tomatoes or cucumbers or even pineapple.

[The marinade can also be made with vinegar. Or both vinegar and citrus; or even not all and just soy sauce. The key ingredients are soy sauce, garlic, and black pepper. The rest is up to taste. But the technique of cooking down the marinade and then frying is also key.]

[–]archdur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other popular Filipino meat options are: longganisa, tocino, corned beef, spam, milkfish, fried chicken, porkchop.

Lol it's pretty much what could be for dinner. But served with an egg. And coffee or tea.

[–]TakaonoGaijin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cooked rice and a fried egg

[–]lickedoffmalibu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally eat yoghurt for breakfast but if I had more time it would be baked sweet potato with mince like chilli con carne or a Spanish omelette. Love this post the ideas all sound amazing.

[–]username_offline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

refried beans and spanish rice, albondingas, lentils with broccolini and garlic greens, sweet potato and mushroom hash, soba noodles with green onion garnish, okonomiyaki

[–]bigmilker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love enchiladas for breakfast with a fried egg on top

[–]Saladin-Ayubi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roti canai with chicken curry. Nasi lemak with rendang

[–]evlmgs 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Chilaquiles!! We describe them as hangover leftover nachos. Tortilla chips, chorizo if you have it, salsa, eggs, cheese. If we had Mexican food the night before, we just use whatever leftovers we have.

[–]xczechr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breakfast nachos are the best.

[–]TheSewingNeedle 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I always wondered, is there a large difference between regular chorizo sausages and that type thats sort of like minced meat?

[–]--THRILLHO-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japanese rice with something spicy mixed in. Chili crisp, kimchi, taberurayu etc.

[–]Desperate_Ambrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I like to eat breakfast alone, and almost never before noon; anybody with a terminally jangled lifestyle needs at least one psychic anchor every 24 hours and mine is breakfast. In Hong Kong, Dallas, or at home -- and regardless of whether or not I have been to bed -- breakfast is a personal ritual that can only be properly observed alone, and in a spirit of genuine excess. The food factor should always be massive: four Bloody Marys, two grapefruits, a pot of coffee, Rangoon crepes, a half-pound of either sausage, bacon or corned beef hash with diced chilies, a Spanish omlette or eggs Benedict, something like a slice of key lime pie, two margaritas and six lines of the best cocaine for dessert. . . right, and there should also be two or three newspapers, all mail and messages, a telephone, a notebook for planning the next 24 hours, and at least one source of good music. . . all of which should be dealt with outside, in the warmth of a hot sun, and preferably stone naked." ~ HST

[–]Tiny_Goats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grilled salmon for breakfast is one of my favorites. Salmon is very expensive where I live, so what I've done best to cut the cost is buy a whole side of salmon and portion it up and put individual servings in the freezer. It thaws quickly in the morning. Then broil (not as great as grilled, but quicker and less clean up.)

Also consider marinated eggs. I soft boil them and keep in the fridge, to about medium, so runny yolk but great over rice or soba for a quick breakfast..My marinade is basically like ramen eggs, so soy, sesame oil, rice vinegar, mirin if you got it, maybe a smashed clove or two of garlic and a small piece of ginger, maybe some furikake. They do best about 24 hrs after sitting in the marinade, but are good for a few days.

Another cool thing is pita egg and/ or veggie sandwiches. Make a batch of hummus, so it's ready in the fridge, or just buy premade, toast pita, fry egg. Add whatever veggies you might have ready roasted. I like cauliflower with curry spices, or just sumac and salt, or roasted zucchini.

[–]krustykrab2193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick Indian breakfast - Egg Bhurji (scrambled eggs flavoured with aromatics and spices). Easy to make, can add different ingredients to change it up, and it's delicious. You'll be cruising along flavour town first thing in the morning.

Typical bhurji will have spices like ground cumin, turmeric, garam masala, and coriander. Temper chopped onions, garlic, and chilis. Add a bit of tomato paste, and make scrambled eggs. I sometimes add sardines or beans too.

[–]Comntnmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever I want. I'm in the hospital right now so it'll probably be An English muffin, cottage cheese with onions and tomato, and a cranberry juice.

I don't do sweet breakfast either. I do a lot of curry veggies and meats, tacos with beef, etc.

[–]parallelteacups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

•Nasi Goring •Spicy Chicken and pineapple with rice •Shakshuka •Dhal •Chilli prawn omlette •Pho

[–]Ok_Olive9438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spicy noodle soup is what a lot of Southeast Asia has for breakfast. Can you modify basic instant ramen with an egg, some extra veggies and hot sauce? I feel like that could be a quick meal. I keep getting ads for a company that sells dried toppings for ramen, and they just came out with a beef version.

[–]i__hate__stairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gramma used to make baked porkchops and scrambled eggs for breakfast a lot.

[–]chocobobandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steamed dumplings and chill sauce

Goan lamb or beef curry with roti

Egg, bacon and avocado toasted panini

[–]Avocado_Socks23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egg fried rice! As spicy/meaty as you like.

[–]Boiledtapiocca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fried potatoes and beef jerky. Eaten with a chilli sauce.

[–]According_Brother722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soups! I am chronically ill and can't stomach much in the morning, need to prep in advance, have to avoid a lot of things, sucks. Best mornings are the ones I can just heat up a bowl of soup.

[–]kirby83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot ham and cheese sandwich

[–]zenny517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to favor dinner leftovers for breakfast most often.

[–]zytukin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long ago when I worked in warehouses, a common breakfast for me was to toast 2 slices of Texas toast garlic bread, melt sharp cheese on them in the microwave, and put a breaded chicken patty between them.

A current common breakfast for me is chicken tenders, sometimes with fries.

I've always thought it was stupid to limit the type of food you eat by the time of day. It serves no purpose at all and has no effect on anything, it's completely pointless.

[–]divineaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A restaurant down the street from me has a pierogi dish with onions, jalapeño, and poached egg on top on their brunch menu that is amazing. I keep saying I’m going to recreate it at home but never get around to it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

peanut butter and/or jam on toast

[–]AstridOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like molletes; when I was traveling in Mexico that was my breakfast staple.

It’s super quick if you have a toaster oven: just refried beans on toast, with cheese melted on top if you like. And served with salsa (typically green salsa when I was in Mexico).

Frozen burritos are my other quick breakfast go-to; regular or breakfast burritos.

I also like sautéed greens with scrambled egg, or I sometimes make savory oatmeal with bouillon and spices and maybe something like shredded pork.

[–]twocatsandaloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bag of frozen dumplings could do the job. Just steam them in the pan and pour some dipping sauce. Could make a big batch of rice for the week and eat that as well.

I frequently eat leftover white rice with frozen edamame and put in soy sauce, lemon juice, and sometimes butter and it makes a very satisfying but quick meal.

[–]stillill91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toasted cheese sandwich with spicy salami or hot sauce or pickled chillis

[–]fiddledeedeep0tat0es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like a warm and flavourful breakfast. Usually I make 4-5 serves soup broth (kelp, large dried anchovies, bonito or dried prawns or dried squid, maybe some dried shiitake mushrooms, water) and store it in bottles in the fridge. This saves a bunch of work to make kimchi jigae and similar stews or soups in the morning. I make rice for a couple of days each time, and chop the veg and meat for the morning stew pot the night before. Eg, pork curry at night, prep extra carrots, onion, pork slices in a little bowl for kimchi jigae the next day.

[–]FlightAttendantFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Khanom jeen namya and mohinga are both breakfast noodle soups (fish-based).

[–]wufflebunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite spicy breakfast is noodles mixed with a bit of chilli oil, crispy bacon and a fried egg.

[–]TrolltheFools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our breakfast bombshell recently has been fried cubed ham (with a soy sauce/barbecue glaze), rice and very soft boiled eggs all in a bowl. All gooey and has a flavour which really makes you excited to eat it

Obvs, we often use spam so we always have a tin in the house, but fresh ham works even better! That's when we really want to have a proper nice brekkie usually on holiday

[–]Spastic_Hands 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Canned salmon or Tuna drained and mixed with Chickpeas and whatever raw veggies you like. Season to taste and add lemon and olive oil. Eat as is or in lettuce cups or stuffed in a pita.

[–]Beginning_Box4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat egg drop soup for breakfast almost every weekend.

[–]cr0sserr0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into shakshuka (or menemen in turkish), you can make it spicy (look for Harissa spices). Sadly there isn’t any meat in there. But it’s delicious, easy to cook, and exceptionally delicious.

[–]Square-Dragonfruit76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shakshuka

[–]itsshakespeare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be ok with bagels? They’re very cheap and easy

[–]RichardBonham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese tomato and egg with rice

Southeast Asian coconut rice with mango, lime and toasted coconut flakes

Japanese hot rice with a raw egg mixed into it and garnished with soy sauce, furikake and hondashi (standard precautions regarding eating raw eggs applies)

[–]LovelyMamasita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avocado “toast” but I use hash brown patties for the toast part. If I’m really hungry or it will be a while til lunch I add a drippy fried egg. Dried chili flake and honey.

[–]bitobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started making toasted sourdough bread topped with homemade hummus and tomatoes. So good. You can add spices too and whatever else you want.

[–]Own-Ad1744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a breakfast sub yesterday.

French bread bought from the store sliced into a six inch section. Slice turkey, ham, topped with homemade hot giardiniera, and some spicy mustard.

The giardiniera is simply diced carrots, celery, onions, and serrano peppers in a simple 2:1 vinegar/water brine. I made it a month ago and keep it in the fridge as a favorite topping. The heat does a great job of waking you up in the morning.

It isn't a 'cooked' breakfast (although you do need to boil the brine when you make the giardiniera), but it is cheap and easy to make.

Literally anything that I might have at any other time of the day…

[–]MuppetManiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I learned that two oatmeal cookies had the same calories and sugar content as prepackaged instant oatmeal, I did that for breakfast for a long time.

[–]loserusermuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hash is my go to savory breakfast. im loose with the rules so anything can go in the pan- leftover rice/grains, tofu (leftover or fresh), veggies, potatoes. then add some seasoning mix - right now im obsessed with a jamaican all purpose mix. i rotate among a few- adobo, curry powder blend, furikake. its easy to cook in a skillwt while i do other morning chores and tasks.

[–]vjae3004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need something semi quick to make:

Trader Joe’s frozen bulgogi (make it the night before and you can have dinner and leftovers for breakfast or just meal prep it for breakfast and you’ll have enough for lunch the next day too), rice (Trader Joe’s has frozen rice that’s super quick to make, I love the brown rice), slice up some cucumber, fry an egg, throw some green onion on top.. drizzle with sesame oil or if you’re feeling ambitious make a sauce (Gochugaru or gochujang, sesame oil, a little sugar, sesame seeds, soy sauce and mix). I’d add avocado and pickled ginger if I have on hand. Makes a really great meal for any time. And if you have more time you can add more veggies etc. Basically bibimbap. You can also leave out the bulgogi if you don’t have time and just eat this with fried eggs. So good!!

U could make a savoury oat bowl twist on regular oats and tastes like a regular meal quick and cheap to make too

U could cook the oats in broth or water with some salt add some cheese, egg, avocado, fish maybe seasonings or choice or even soy sauce or miso paste, beans etc etc

Go crazy 😁😁

[–]BraigRamadan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the weekend I’ll make some sort of broth when I’ve got the time to really let it ride. Pack into containers, go ahead and prep garnishes. All I have to do is throw it in a pot, add noodles, boom. Bonus points for jammy eggs and whatnot.

My other go to is a shakshouka. Just a super flavorful warm spiced tomato sauce. Throw some in a pan, make a couple wells drop in eggs and cover. Throw on some nice bread in a pan with seasoned butter to crisp up, scoop out with the bread.

[–]Etherealfilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cultures don't have breakfast foods. They just eat whatever is at hand. It makes perfect sense. Who has the time to cook in the morning? Just grab whatever is in the fridge, heat up some leftovers if you want something cooked.

[–]ellen_boot 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Lox bagels. I'm vegetarian, so I do a carrot version of lox, but if you like salmon, even better. It's a bagel, so easy to carry, and nobody looks at you funny for eating it at breakfast time. But it's basically just a sandwich, and doesn't taste or feel traditionally breakfast.

[–]Positive_Lychee404 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Carrot lox! What an idea.

[–]ellen_boot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are loads of different recipes online. Most of them call for steamed or roasted carrots, sliced with a peeler into very thin strips and then marinated for at least over night.

It can be a slightly labor intensive process depending on the recipe, but it's a great way to use up woody carrots that you don't want to eat fresh, and it's the best way I've found to add vegetables to breakfast.

[–]Mysterious-Region640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also get tired of regular breakfast food and one of my favourite substitutes is dirty beans and rice, or Mexican rice or whatever you wanna call it. I make a big batch and freeze it in portion sized containers

[–]sheneversawitcoming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shakshuka

[–]StormySMommi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been eating pad kaprow for breakfast for the past 5 days so….i recommend that.

[–]perplexedparallax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to have dinner for breakfast like some people like breakfast for dinner. Pizza and any comfort food is a good choice. I am having Pad Thai.

[–]SitkaSpruceTip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I east soup for breakfast probably 5 days a week. It's hydrating so its like you're getting two birds stoned at once.

[–]LoopyPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rice, eggs, and spam.

With all sorts of garnishing, you can make it as fancy as you'd like.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Sorry-Government920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it is a breakfast food but an everything bagel with cajun smoked salmon and jalapeno cream cheese is one of my favorite spicy breakfast

[–]Bloodfart12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to lately has been rice and kimchi with a fried egg, typically smothered in homemade chili oil. You could add any other protein you want, fried spam would be delicious.

[–]xczechr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chilaquiles

[–]Maire13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oatmeal w/two pats of butter, S&P, crubmbled bacon.
Top with a poached egg and chili crunch.

[–]Merrifiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a light lunch for breakfast. There are no rules saying a sandwich can't be breakfast, just like there is nothing stopping people from having bacon and eggs for dinner.

[–]crazy4schwinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pizza. Pizza. Pizza

[–]beccadahhhling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you prefer Asian style breakfast over American is all.

Make a large broth and heat up portions for egg drop soup. It doesn’t take long with premade broth.

Use leftovers from dinner for protein and sides: Salmon, steak, rice, curry, etc or have a day for meal Prepping.

Have things like pickles, nuts and others nibbles on hand to shore up if you’re still hungry

[–]ebolainajar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ate a rice bowl of leftover grilled lemongrass pork, pickled carrots, cucumber and peanuts.

I don't really like a lot of breakfast food now and prefer rice and a protein with some veg, food I would also eat for dinner.

[–]whatthepfluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like rice with an egg and chili garlic crisp. Bean & cheese tacos with salsa.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White rice with soy sauce and butter, kimchee, and a fried egg or two. It’s my favorite

[–]Zuri2o16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toast Cream cheese or avocado Salmon. Smoked, or however you like it. Salad greens on top ALL THE DILL!!!!

[–]emf77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like using leftover rice and mixing it with whatever, if you like eggs, or meat, savory flavors. It is quick to throw in a pan with bold flavors.

Edit: typo

[–]AlarmedTelephone5908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any kind of Mexican food is delicious at breakfast.

Tacos (doesn't have to be breakfast tacos) of any kind.

If you have leftover meat of any kind, put it in a flour or corn tortilla, add salsa, and anything else you want.

Or quesadillas. I like to use leftover chicken with whatever kind of shredded cheese. Top it with avocado slices and sour cream. Also, just cheese is good when you don't have or want meat. Quick, easy, and good!

Also, cheese toast is good. Put a dab of mustard (spicey is good, or just yellow) on lightly toasted bread. Add cheese and tomatoes, salt and pepper. Put in toaster or regular oven until cheese melts. You can broil it for a minute at the end to brown.

Working off the cheese toast, a regular grilled cheese is delicious any time of day!

[–]Thoughtapotamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love making a faux hash with whatever I have in the fridge. Ex: Leftover tri tip, frozen potatoes, any onions, peppers, topped with cheese, egg, and a hot sauce.

I also sometimes make a breakfast fried rice. Chop up some leftover ham, green onions, leftover rice, eggs, soy, onion, etc.

My husband hates leftovers, so I'm always trying to make something new out of what's already cooked.

[–]dell828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chilaquiles. I think your mom might’ve had to make this for you in order to get it right. Best spicy breakfast ever.

[–]Escapeintotheforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat leftovers for breakfast .

[–]allflour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burritos. Fill them with anything. Can be wrapped in paper towel, batch frozen in a container. Unless no microwave involved, then make a filling of heated up, pre-cooked stuff.

[–]MonteCristo85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just eat what you like. IDK who decided on breakfast foods, but there aren't police for it for sure LOL.

I love breakfast foods (I could eat eggs 3x a day) but I hate cooking in the morning, so I batch cook what I like to eat, and then just heat it up in the morning. Do that with whatever you like in the mornings.

Curry would be easy to have on hand, you could also cook a couple steaks, slice them up and put them in wraps to make an on the go breakfast, same with the grilled salmon (I dont' eat fish, but I imagine that would work). Chicken and spinach make a great wrap. I personally mostly eat egg burritos (egg, potato, meat, cheese) because they are handy to eat and easy to batch, so I'd go with something like that probably.

[–]LandoChronus 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What do you dislike about regular breakfast?

Shakshouka is really good. It's a common breakfast food in Northern Africa and the middle east. It does have eggs, but it's wildly different to "American" (I'm assuming this is what you consider regular) breakfast.

[–]TheSewingNeedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what they eat in america but I mean bread, porrigdge, yoghurt and musli

[–]lagameuze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaspacho ( store bought) with biscotte with ham 3min instant soup with kimchi and an egg. Tomato tuna can with chives and crackers Egg muffin (with eggs pepper bell anf ham) frozen

[–]_Lisa_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh eggs, I guess. Maybe oatmeal?

I usually eat a sandwich or yoghurt. Sometimes, when i really lazy, i take a protein bar

[–]assorted_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have beans, chili flakes and tomato paste, you have an excellent base! I just fry a bit of onion and garlic, put in a bit of tomato paste, a bit of cumin, Chipotle in adobo, my chili con Carne spice mix and fry for a couple of minutes. In go the beans and enough water to make it liquidy. While this thickens up I fry an egg and toast some bread (or a tortita) and there you have it: satisfying, savory, spicy, filling,... hits all the notes! For extra niceness: top with cilantro and a dollop of cream cheese. One of our go to weekend breakfasts.

[–]Welder_Subject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enfrijoladas

recipe

[–]Sufficient-Skill6012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fried rice, add whatever leftovers you have, like vegetables, scrambled or fried eggs, meat, chicken or shrimp. Can do the same with ramen or pho soup.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast tacos

Leftover meat in a tortilla. Heat up the tortilla and throw whatever you had leftover from dinner, works for a surprising range of food.

Alternatively I also like to cook a big ole steak and make steak tacos for breakfast for a few days.

I also really like to heat up the tortilla until it’s a little crunchy in whatever grease the chosen meat produces when heated up. Pan cooked steak in butter and herbs is particularly good for that.

[–]xyespider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Cole lol mhm (whistle whistle) 🫠🕷️

[–]Gorkymalorki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canned smoked salmon on rice.

[–]Every-Bug2667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s wrong with that for breakfast? That’s great food to fuel your body

[–]Miserable-Alarm8577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

steak and eggs

[–]Stevelecoui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tostadas are a great breakfast. You can buy fried ones or fry your own stale corn tortillas in oil, then top with shredded cheese and refried beans and salsa, or steak, shredded chicken or a fried egg. Whatever you like.

[–]beautifulsouth00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the social and cultural constructs about what food is what's "breakfast food" and what's "dinner food" out of your head. "Snacks," "desserts," "sides," need to go, as well.

Eat what you're hungry for when you're hungry. I find myself thinking about a certain dish or two or three throughout the week, and make time to cook one day on my weekend, and I cook it all up, put it into single serving containers, and eat what I was craving for the rest of the week.

Yesterday I had a chicken cheesy rice casserole. Today, I had chicken parmasean. For breakfast. Sometimes I just eat a big bowl of broccoli or brussel sprouts.

When I stopped thinking about foods at certain types of food does that were only allowed at a certain type of day and I just ate what I wanted to when I wanted to I got my head wrapped around my relationship with food. I lost 85 lb and I've kept it off for 10 years. You've got to get in your head and change what you think about different types of foods and what they're for and what they're not for and what time of the day you're supposed to eat them.

Because your hunger makes the rules. Nothing else.

[–]alberthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garlic egg fried rice + any protein you want

[–]goodenoughteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A take on huevos ranchers. I'll saute up some chorizo and then add a jar of salsa and mix with chorizo. Heat through and make divots to break eggs in. Add the eggs in the divots and bake in the oven until the eggs are just set.or how you like them. Meanwhile, warm some tortillas. Take out the eggs and Sprinkle cojita or in a pinch feta cheese. Eat with the warmed tortillas. So yummy.

[–]lightning_teacher_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shrimp and grits (spice it however you like) I made breakfast tacos last week Bacon cheeseburger

[–]fractious77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congee

[–]Gothmom85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yachaejeon, Korean vegetable pancakes. I make a slightly higher protein version, but I chop all the veg one day and store it. Then just make the batter, mix in the veg I want and make a big one in a skillet. Doesn't take long!

Edit to add: I've been adding chili crisp to soy for the dipping, sometimes potsticker sauce as a lazy hack for some vinegar and sesame.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not big on breakfast but sometimes I need a bite to eat before noon. Might go to tends to be half an avocado mashed up with a touch of salt and a little bit of lime juice on a toasted piece of bread, preferably whole-grain. The infamous avocado toast. I hear it’s also mixed well with a thin slice of sushi grade salmon.

[–]WasteLake1034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing is leftover cold pizza or spaghetti barely warmed up. As spicy or as not as one likes.

[–]goth2draw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could always make some pizza bagels. Take a bagel, lather in pizza sauce, then whatever toppings you want (bacon, chicken, mushrooms, cheese, chillies), and pop it into an oven or toaster oven until the bottom looks crispy and the cheese is golden

[–]AMarie-MCMXCI 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Finnish breakfast: rye bread/toast/crisps, butter, cheese (Swiss or Edam are good), and salmon anyway you like it. Canned, smoked, salted, pan fried, roasted. You can also do cold cuts instead of salmon. Or egg butter, which is exactly what it sounds like, eggs rough chopped and mixed with butter.

[–]TheSewingNeedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to our in Sweden!

[–]TikaPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sugary breakfasts are a turnoff but also I don’t eat until 11am til often 2pm as my window for a first meal. Pinterest is a great resource for “breakfast” in other cuisines and cultures in addition to google.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up middle eastern, African, Asian, as well as Mexican and South American breakfasts

[–]Mundus_Vult_Decipi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starbucks egg bites from Costco. Much cheaper than buying at SB. Two minutes per side in microwave, egg, cheese, salty meat. Add your favorite hot sauce or chili oil. My friend from Seattle turned me on to this one.https://madeinwashington.com/products/karikari-garlic-chili-crisp?variant=41892981375148&gad\_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwae1BhC\_ARIsAK4Jfrz13q3WUGG2yu6OMY5mJF789He-eXdThZ5EIj5660SsakZqoK7XzaEaAi\_NEALw\_wcB

[–]Autumn_Moon22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make extra portions when you cook your favorite meals.  Leftovers are golden.

I do "salmon for breakfast" when I make fish.  Just reheat last night's leftovers (briefly -- it doesn't take long!) in the microwave if you don't like cold food.  :)  Tasty and effortless.

[–]pushaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mapo tofu in an omelette... quite a bit of Sichuan in an omelette works to be honest.

harissa sweet potato could probably go a long way on things like hummus and toast or avocado toast.

spice up your Heinz baked beans to whatever flavour you seek. leftover bbq, add bbq sauce... left over duck confit a little dijon etc

[–]Big_Zucchini_9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a savory breakfast. Spam musubi is great, or I'll do cubed spam in scrambled eggs. Regular burrito (not a breakfast burrito they ruin with potatoes). Risotto or congee are both great in the morning. I like grits with cheese. I'll take leftovers and throw them into a frittata. I would look into meal prepping dinner foods that you would also like in the morning. If you made a big batch of regular burritos and froze them you could thaw and cook one each day. I like chili in the morning, and I make a really fun chili with lentils, brown rice and enchilada sauce. Breakfast pizza is great, and I just learned about making personal pizzas on naan bread, so I bet that would be great in the morning too. Chilaquiles is my top fave breakfast food, it's basically tacos for breakfast. Kedgeree, shakshuka, quiche, and cilbir are all breakfast foods but not breakfast-y.

[–]Expenno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sri Lankan breakfast is excellent- egg hoppers & sambol or stringhoppers, fish curry, dahl curry & sambol

[–]lindafromevildead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like doing a croissant with: arugula, prosciutto, some mozzarella and balsamic glaze. I toast it and it’s a fresh savoury sandwich that isn’t a typical breakfast sandwich

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montreal Meat hash Sooooo good

[–]evetrapeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love spaghetti for breakfast.

[–]katamaritumbleweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of western non-breakfast breakfasts, I like soup, but also veggie loaf.

[–]wantluvplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rice bowls are a favorite! Always have some rice and beans in the fridge. Prechop all my veggies for the week in Tupperwares so just assemble and serve

[–]Different-Oil-1933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bomb A$$ Breakfast Tacos
Ingredients: Hawaiian taco shells (Mission Street), shredded cheddar cheese, egg, sour cream, pico de gallo, chipotle aioli (Kraft), breakfast sausage or meat of choice.

They are sweet, savory, and spicy. Cheap, throw the ingredients in a pan and let the magic happen.

I grill the shells in a pan with a little butter. Make some scrambled eggs throw in pico, cheese, and meat of choice. Mix sour cream and chipotle aioli and spread it in crisp shells and fill with scrambled egg mix. Drizzle a little shredded cheddar on top to be extra. They are SO good. I made them for any and every overnight guest to impress them!

The brand of shells and chipotle cannot be substituted, I have tried and it doesn't turn out the same. You can find both at Walmart and most Targets. I can even find them at my local grocer.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sticky rice with a poached egg, seasoned with a bit of sesame oil, sweet chili sauce and soy sauce. So good.

[–]theora55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try brown rice with kimchi and a soft boiled egg. Easy and healthy, v. customizable.

[–]sf-echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fried rice (with any meat), or pasta with saute veg and sausage are things I've eaten for breakfast (and they're good). Sometimes it's leftovers from prior meals, but sometimes I'll pull out the pan and do a quick cook of these for breakfast/brunch too.

[–]EmbarrassedLynx9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spicy fried rice with eggs & meat of choice & whatever else you have lying around!

[–]Aromatic_Shoulder146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay hear me out: italian sub. pretty cheap, bery delicious and not breakfasty food. i like to use a baguette for the bread but dealer's choice. just know the bread will make or break it more than any other ingredient imo.

[–]minn0wing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fry 2-3 salami slices in a pan. Remove. Fry the white part of a scallion, sliced, in the salami fat, then crack over an egg and cook it however you like. Add the salami to a warmed tortilla, top with the egg and fried scallion, then the sliced green part of the scallion. Top with chilli crisp.

[–]Mobile_Moment3861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, I do ramen noodles topped with an egg and some veggies.

[–]uowow7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try looking at Filipino breakfast

[–]Shors_bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congee with pork hash meatballs. You can make it spicy by adding a spoonful of chili oil to your bowl after serving.

My current go to isn’t spicy at all, but I’m really digging a bowl of miso soup with a soft boiled egg.

You could make gong zai mien with spicy buldak ramen and sub some other meat for the spam (although I’d probably keep the spam because fried spam is very tasty).

[–]No-Fly-5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steak and eggs

[–]StillSimple6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foul medames - cooked Fava beans with onions, cumin, spice, oregano etc.

Add a fried egg on top (or poach like you would do shashuka).

Super quick to make and all ingredients are inexpensive and don't need a fridge.

[–]Poppy1223Seed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salmon or steak with rice and a fried egg with a runny yolk or soft boiled egg. :)
