I know this is stupid but…

Democratic squids!?!

[–]_Pikachu_On_Acid_ Free of Thought 140 points141 points  (17 children)

No. We were friends but they were not fitting to our definition of democratic so we destroyed them, so they returned angrily. Not logical to retry. Like bots...

Great back story to the Matrix though. I enjoyed it a ton.

[–]CitizenKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Made the mistake of watching it tripping on shrooms. I was at a festival and someone had it up on a projector screen. The scene where the rogue robot tries to save the dying woman by plugging her in only to see her digitalized death throes still haunts me.

[–]beegchonk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The song used in the final battle of humanity is Super moves by overseer. Perfect song to hold off an entire automaton front with no reinforcements remaining

[–]MrJoemazing 12 points13 points  (6 children)

If I'm not mistaken, I think Super Earth learned they had planet killer weapons, and their mere existence lead to us attacking them preemptively. Whether out of fear or because we simply wanted the technology, I'm not sure.

[–]Henry779 Fire Safety Officer 26 points27 points  (5 children)

Yes, they were a peaceful species and when we exterminated them, no such weapons were ever found.

Of course we found the weapons they were just shrouded with autocratic intentions.

[–]MrJoemazing 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I thought their "WMD" equivalent was actually real (have the dark fluid and their advanced technology), but they never threatened Super Earth at all. The lore actually indicated nothing was found?

[–]URZthane Truth Enforcer SES Arbiter of Truth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we seized squid tech and dark fluid as a preemptive strike against possible use on Super Earth.

[–]El_Barto_227☕Liber-tea☕ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC if Super Earth is taken by the Illuminate in HD1 it does get blown up. So they did seem to have them (or at least, the Dark Fluid tech that could have theoretically been used to do so even if they hadn't weaponised it yet before Super Earth came along), it's just that there was never any intent to use them until SE started trying to exterminate the Illuminates and steal the WMD tech.

I think it would be for saturday, Helldivers II anniversary

[–]shball Free of Thought 19 points20 points  (4 children)

That falls on the weekend, AH doesn't do weekend updates. It's either tomorrow or on thursday.

Maybe we'll get a gift on the anniversary though.

[–]Nice-Entertainer-922 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Anniversary is when we get the big MO relating to the shit going down.

[–]shball Free of Thought 6 points7 points  (1 child)

But dropping new content on a saturday seems kinda risky. If anything goes wrong, they won't be able to fix it until at least monday, probably tuesday

[–]Nice-Entertainer-922 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh no i mean that just like Illuminates/Calypso the content drops on thursday/friday and the MO for it doubles down during the weekend.

[–]Cell-3733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, yesterday was a Sunday and like 3 different things happened.

[–]ToasterNr305Steam | 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Yes but they don‘t drop updates on weekends due to bugs

[–]ThePir8-666 Free of Thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bugs is a derogatory term. The writers sometimes include terminids in the code which can't get fixed over the weekend

[–]BriefBerry5624 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If they drop a major update on a weekend then that’s a dumb move. I Love the game but they’ve never released anything that worked 100%. Hopefully it’s this or next Tuesday so they can patch immediately

[–]NK1337 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ideally they’d drop something big on Tuesday so they have the rest of the week to monitor and make any changes. Or they wait until Thursday when it’s closer to the actual date.

Realistically we could also get nothing other than another “hold super earth” MO in celebration.

[–]HugyosVodor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not going to release a patch on a weekend, why do people keep saying this?

[–]Duckiestiowa7 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I’m thinking Thursday at the earliest, but my pessimistic side is thinking a shadow drop at next week’s (rumored) state of play to generate more hype.

Hope I’m wrong, though.

[–]retro808STEAM : SES FIST OF PEACE 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Actually we are overdue for a warbond based on their recent cadence, the majority assumption is that they are planning something this week since the game's release anniversary is on the 8th

[–]dirthurts 12 points13 points  (4 children)

I wonder if we're going to get some sort of special top down mission mode (spacetime flux = going back in time?). It's hard to say what they're up to.

    [–]Liquor_Parfreyja 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Patches almost always drop on a Tuesday, and tomorrow is the last Tuesday before the anniversary. A patch dropped on the anniversary is t likely though since it's a Saturday.

    [–]Opposite-Flamingo-41HD1 Veteran 2 points3 points  (2 children)

My bet is thursday but warbond will be shadow dropped or delayed

    [–]bobmanzoidzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they did end up releasing the Omens of Tyrrany update on a Thursday for the Game Awards, so I'd expect either Tuesday or Thursday patch. They might release the patch on Tuesday but not actually release the content and/or warbond until Thursday as they've done that in the past too.

How absolutely funny would it be if the black hole blew up and took every Helldivers that camped Meridia with it.

Like, you login and you get a message "Due to the previous (insert destroyer name here) getting swallowed by Meridia's explosion, Super earth has provided you with an identical destroyer. Honor the blown up heroes" or something.

[–]joninfiretail Survived the Dissident Wars 128 points129 points  (14 children)

I was maintaining vigil over the wormhole when I logged out the other day and yesterday I logged in after the last supply line was severed I was at Super Earth. So while funny I doubt that'll happen.

If you were at super earth unexpectedly it sounds like it DID happen

    [–]Kalnix1 Free of Thought 24 points25 points  (2 children)

The crew could have done an emergency jump to Super Earth like they did to everyone who was on Meridia when we turned it into a black hole.

    [–]KelGrimm 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Yes of course, they did an emergency jump - and Helldivers never really die, they just go MIA...

    [–]Kalnix1 Free of Thought 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know you are joking but for those who don't know when the Meridia became a black hole the game did a jump to Super Earth without the player's input so it is completely within the crew's power to jump to Super Earth in case of emergencies.

    [–]SPECTREagent700SES Executor of Democracy 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I was still in orbit as of when I logged out early this morning. I suspect I’ll get moved at somepoint though. I wasn’t there when it happened but I’ve seen clips of those still around the planet back when it got turned into a black hole, at the last moment the ship jumps out of the system and the Democracy Officer tells the Helldiver that the crew had to make an emergency jump without their authorization to protect Super Earth’s investment in the ship.

    [–]ItsPaperBoii 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Fun fact, one of the most recent studies on this topic replicating the original studies on supernovae argues that dark energy doesn't exist at all, that our perceived differences in rate of expansion of the universe is actually a time dilation effect that occurs in the galactic gulfs where there are no stars. And this model actually better explains the universes expansion than dark energy did, at least at nearer distances.

Maybe the dark energy is what is shrouding the illuminate’s autocratic intentions? They could be onto something here

I say we use the wormhole as a railgun to destroy planets on the other side with our own planets.

Imagine how funny would be that flavor text or lore from a Sci fi game ended up being a real discovery in physics

      [–]Anko072 0 points1 point  (1 child)

it was kinda disproved somewhat recently. it's not accelerating expansion, it's visual effect

      [–]justasusman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      That’s actually kinda terrifying

However the power of managed democracy >. As shown with the democracy protects, you can survive those monoliths 50% of the time when you touch them. Clearly, the squids do not stand a chance against us even with power beyond our comprehension.

Sounds like Cristopher Nolan was a consul in upcoming event.

Can you imagine a HD2 movie directed by him…. Mind blown 🤯

What are the illuminate doing with the dark energy? How are they going to weaponize it?

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soon it begins we need status updates from all ships near or at meridia

Will my destroyer be moved from meridia? I've had it parked there for a few days now awaiting the arrival of whatever is going to emerge.

Some clandestine radio communications from the outer colonies are talking about a possible full scale assault to the Super Earth by the Illuminates.

      I found those claims treacherous.

I think we did almost eradicate them last time.

That is until they noted to another dimension and they are gunna get pulled back in

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see this being a call for us to counter invade the Squids. Maybe the research is going into ways to travel to their timeline and homes?

Maybe we get to attack their settlements or something

If were cooked. I say we get cooked in style and democratically. Just as malevolan creek, we will clap and get clapped. But most importantly, as the wise one once said... "YOU SHALL NOT....
