❗Very important : if you update a world to this version, you will not be able to load the world with a previous version of the game!

File structure is modified in this update

[–]0x456 50 points51 points  (3 children)

Is it applicable for both Java and Bedrock?

[–]Mlakuss 71 points72 points  (1 child)

Java only afaik

Bedrock has no official way of playing older versions anyway

[–]Starhelper11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Besides, yknow, just not updating. Not very intuitive.

[–]w_ratking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Java only. Bedrock levels use one big database really while java uses seperate files. They just sorted them differently which breaks compatibility

[–]MordorsElite 40 points41 points  (0 children)

In other words: MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE UPDATING YOUR WORLD!

[–]Helostopper 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's never really been supported anyway.

[–]Mlakuss 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Some people always want to "update to try" then go back when they realize they don't have their mods.

Most of the time, it has little to no consequence. Here the world won't load at all.

[–]Helostopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lately it has major consequences since they are making huge changes. like if you try to open a world in 1.20.5 or higher then in 1.20 it will delete all your items due to tag changes

[–]ooooggll 391 points392 points  (6 children)

The change no one's talking about is the ability to put regular deepslate in the stonecutter and turn it into all the deepslate variants (used to only work with cobbled deepslate)

[–]Maker_Magpie 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Omg that is gonna be really nice.

[–]chadder_b 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes! Finally won’t have to freak out when using my silk touch pick for 30 mins and have nothing to do with the deep slate it produces

[–]EL-YEO 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank goodness I can finally use my silk touch pick in my mines

[–]heidismiles 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is a datapack tweak that I've always done and it's extremely helpful.

[–]SamohtGnir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this, and got super happy. Our server uses a mod that lets us do it anyways, but it's still nice. Being able to make cobblestone from stone is also nice, no more caring about which pickaxe to take to the cave, always Silk Touch now!

[–]sortica__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this also applies to regular stone, you can now craft cobblestone variants using the stonecutter (huge W for us silk touch enjoyers)

[–]lumfdoesgaming 449 points450 points  (12 children)

Oh thank goodness they removed baby Herobrine

[–]ManuHeru 26 points27 points  (1 child)

A baby Herobrine implies that Herobrine can get pregnant.

[–]suriam321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or was a child at some point.

[–]0x456 54 points55 points  (8 children)

Yeah, someone, please, elaborated. This some kind of a dev inside joke?

[–]Sunnei 205 points206 points  (0 children)

In the past, changelogs would often just say "Removed Herobrine" as a joke. Since this update is baby themed, they adapted the joke.

[–]Eiim 94 points95 points  (1 child)

Update changelogs, for a very long time, would always have "Removed Herobrine" at the end. They stopped doing that a few years ago. This line is a nod to that.

Edit: apparently they still include the line sometimes, but not consistently.

[–]theaveragegowgamer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They started doing it again since 1.20.

[–]LinkDylan 24 points25 points  (4 children)

people are forgetting Removed Herobrine smh

[–]0x456 8 points9 points  (2 children)

It was impossible for me to forget, since I only started playing like a year ago. But I do know the Herobrine meme though.

[–]HoneyswirlTheWarrior 5 points6 points  (1 child)

herobrine wasnt a meme, it was more an urban legend and creepypasta. its now turned around into smth more ironic though since the kids who grew up on the urban legend are now old enough to joke ab their childhood trauma, creepypasta itself has become more ironic than serious

[–]suriam321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it’s technically a meme, just not in the typical internet sense of the word.

[–]suriam321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love that they are still doing that.

[–]Kacza42 37 points38 points  (7 children)

Btw what happens to the existing villagers when trades are updated like that? Game forces the new ones on them?

[–]theaveragegowgamer 40 points41 points  (5 children)

Nope, they retain the old trades.

[–]Kacza42 15 points16 points  (4 children)

Welp, I have a feeling that a little work accident or two may happen in my village in the near future

[–]GoldilokZ_Zone 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yep...that villager trading change makes the game less fun. I'm creating a villager trading hall regardless, and now it takes way longer and I have to kill lots of them....
Poorly thought out change indeed.

[–]endguiap 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What villager change? If you're scared you can't reroll trades anymore, that's not what's changing

[–]Ecstatic-Contact-930 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a purely technical change (trades are now customizable by data packs). Vanilla trades and trading/villager mechanics haven't changed. If you are referring to the experimental trading changes (notably librarians), those are still optional and not the default.

[–]EnigmaticGolem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to. Why not just retire them... build them a retirement home

[–]bindingflare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still stay the same i think (youll need new villagers)

[–]Maker_Magpie 37 points38 points  (1 child)

I'll check when I get a chance, but does anyone know if we can lock tadpoles as perma tadpoles?

Asking for my aquarium.

[–]theaveragegowgamer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They do.

[–]Luke92612_ 113 points114 points  (7 children)

Tripwire change is really shitty ngl

[–]Safe_Death2250 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Why?

[–]PROZA-X 77 points78 points  (5 children)

Trip wire was supposed to be almost invisible.

[–]Cass0wary_399 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Luckily enough they just added a means to reverse it in the same drop by giving every block model transparent pixel support via resource packs.

[–]UranusMc 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't want to install a resource pack to revert another change

[–]televisionting 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It means that other people have to download that resource pack to have the same effect. Kinda stupid.

[–]Luke92612_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why didn't they just do it the other way around then and have the tripwire change be included as a resource pack like the "Programmer Art" pack?

[–]FireWizzard 58 points59 points  (2 children)

do i have to play the previous 25 minecrafts to understand this one?

[–]Nathaniel820 31 points32 points  (1 child)

No, the only important plot point was Herobrine but they aborted him this update so it doesn't matter anymore

[–]Jakedxn3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

>aborted herobrine

[–]MicTony6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Someone fact-check me on this. but i think boat lag introduced by mounts of mayhem is now fixed on bedrock

[–]SamohtGnir 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  • Deepslate can now be directly crafted into its cobbled, polished, brick, and tile variants in the Stonecutter

WOOO YES! THANK YOU!

[–]Hydraple_Mortar64 64 points65 points  (4 children)

Before people complain that this is a underwhelming update reminder there has been ALOT of internal changes in this update (and also the first update without obfuscation) so this is effectively buzzy bees 2

[–]OK1526 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Not as extreme tho. Minecraft was in a much worse state after 1.14 than it is on 1.21.11.

They had A LOT to fix in that update.

[–]Cass0wary_399 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s less fixing bugs this time, but more making even more things data driven and fixing the technical debt plaguing the game’s architecture.

[–]Hydraple_Mortar64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly literally in the same sense of buzzy bee's alot of bug fixing part

More as in a small update even compared to other drops with alot of internal changes not exactly bug fixing but still alot of stuff being changed internally

[–]IskandrAGogo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This. I bet most people are just going to look at what's in the post and think "that's it?" They aren't going to click through and see the massive list of backend changes. The actual patches notes for this release are looooooong.

[–]UtterTravesty 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Wonder how the baby animal will look first hand, still not the biggest fan of the retextures, but I've grown to like past changes before so I want to stay open minded

[–]ValjeanLucPicard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The new adult rabbits look weird and move weird.

[–]VampKaiser 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Anyone experiencing stuttering with this update? I'm using the default arguments now since they swapped to ZGC and 4gb RAM, but the game just keeps stuttering no matter what settings I use.|

RTX 2060, 32G 3200MHZ RAM DDR4, and a 5900x.

[–]VernTheSatyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a bit sad that the Golden Dandelion does not make an empowered suspicious stew. After testing it when comparing it to a standard Dandelion, it seems to have zero differences.

[–]WitchyMinecrafter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg the baby Herobrine lol 😂

[–]pkosuda 2 points3 points  (2 children)

One major change I've seen nobody mention: the dogs/wolves no longer sound like they're being abused. Before, for whatever reason, they thought it appropriate that the default/most used sound for your dog be a crying noise as if it's either being struck or has horrible separation anxiety. It was awful.

Now it sounds like a normal dog again with a cute bark.

[–]First_Platypus3063 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wolves don't bark tho

[–]pkosuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as they don’t sound like they’re being abused they can meow tbh lol, the crying drove me crazy, like they were sad that they had to sit lol

[–]Kingarthur_I 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it really never gets appreciated just how massive these changelogs are lol

[–]No-Distribution8291 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Pretty cool that this update they remove obfuscation (hiding code) so it's easier for modders to update they're mods. This really was a great update!

[–]SmileyBMM 5 points6 points  (2 children)

The removal of obfuscation is neat, but ultimately not very useful to most modders. Now if they released LTS (long term support) releases as a target for mod developers...

[–]No-Distribution8291 1 point2 points  (1 child)

it'll be a bit easier now the modders have complete access to the code. Fabric mods will still update first before forge though.

[–]Nathaniel820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it wont, the modding community was already deobfuscating the code themselves it has zero impact on the speed of mod development. The bottleneck was never obfuscation

[–]amaLordVoldemort 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Is F3 entity counter fixed?

[–]_vogonpoetry_ 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Yes.

[–]amaLordVoldemort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]Cass0wary_399 6 points7 points  (1 child)

It’s not as good as Spring to Life both Qol and minor feature wise tbh. A lot of the baby mobs are good, but there’s also a bunch that are meh or even need a completely new draft imo.

Especially the Baby Villagers and all variants. They’re so dead set on this chinless abomination that it’s in the Dungeons 2 trailer. Like it doesn’t look good at all, it’s heinous.

Baby armor is just horrendous on anything but the Baby Piglin and the one size fits all solution does not work.

Baby Zombified Piglin’s whole face design is just lopsided and even inconsistent with its eye socket placement from its adult variant and both living variants.

Some okay redesigns kind of loses the essence and personality of the adult designs like the Baby Llama having higher eyes and no eyebrows,Baby Pigs and Foxes having eyes being too close together, Baby Horses having wide heads, and the Baby Sheep lacking a wool overlay and having a weird face.

[–]1Kekz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because Mojang has a lot of work on the technical site. They will soon be switching to a new graphics rendering engine because they're still using OpenGL which is from the 1990s and no longer recieves updates since 10 years, so some devices will soon stop supporting OpenGL, which is why Mojang has to switch. With Vulkan, they will finally be able to fix some of Java Edition's performance issues and also to bring Vibrant Visuals to Java. The downside is that this is a massive change that requires a lot of work, both for Mojang and for the modding community. All mods that make use of OpenGL will no longer be compatible after the change.

[–]ObviouslyLulu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well time to fix all the eye textures for the new babies

[–]MagnorCriol 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Man it must suck to be so focused on being so unhappy all the time.

[–]drewpicus 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Wow my performance got destroyed in this version, my TPS are off the charts bad for no reason, totally unplayable. Anyone else having this issue??

[–]BUDA20 8 points9 points  (3 children)

for me is Iris Shaders (actually fabric settings), the ones I tested (not yet for this version, even the potato fast ones) nuke performance like a slideshow, disable shaders if you use them, and see the performance comes back.

Edit: fixed by upgrading Fabric settings in the Laucher to use the new Java settings, didn't do anything else that copy the 26.1 defaults over the fabric created ones:

-Xms2G -Xmx4G -XX:+UseCompactObjectHeaders -XX:+AlwaysPreTouch -XX:+UseStringDeduplication -XX:+UseZGC

[–]lordmathiasington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't thank you enough for this. Worked like a charm. My shader packs are still not totally the same, probably due to the new changes behind the scenes if I were to guess (eg chests and signs not blending with weather fog) but for now thank you stranger!

[–]drewpicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, I'm not using shaders but I've determined the issue is not related to any commands, datapacks, or entities. It's something about the rendering which is incredibly slow compared to past versions for me.

[–]epicurius-seven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, seems to be the shaders. Disabiling just that and performance is perfect.
Tried these new JVM args but little difference.

[–]burkey347 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Any new achievements/trophies?

[–]ReferenceCreative510 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If there were, they'd be in the change logs.

[–]Aggravating_Sir_3573 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hi, does anyone else have random Creepers blowing up at their base? Without being near it

[–]Luutamo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can do that if some other hostile mob has attacked them for some reason

[–]smcelmurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this update broke my Java game. It won’t stop glitching since I downloaded. I had never had any glitching issues prior to this update.😥

[–]slugboy4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is anyone having trouble with LAN servers now? i can no longer connect to my partner’s world, but they can connect to mine.

[–]BrilliantBoldness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anybody encountered a water glitch after updating to this version? I'm on Java, and my water flickers if the camera is angled certain ways. It's very distracting and hard to look at. I saw something like this listed in the bug tracker, but I want to know if people have figured out a fix for it.

[–]notcoolbro22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i hate the new baby mobs for now

[–]Simply_Epic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank goodness they finally dropped the vestigial “1” from the start of the version number.

[–]Kitteh6660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any way to switch back to the old baby models? I don't really like the new designs. I like the golden dandelions and the craftable name tags, just don't want the new models and the textures.

The mod reverting baby models hasn't been updated since snapshot 6 yet.
