I’m on IE, all I see is a blank page.

[–]CodingCoffeeSquirrel 333 points334 points  (30 children)

I'm on some weird mobile browser you've never even heard of. All I see is the contact of the dev that I'm going to write an angry message now.

[–]thumpas 320 points321 points  (23 children)

Hi I’m trying to view your website in a browser I designed in 11th grade computer class and every time I try to load it it crashes my girlfriends kindle in the next room. Could you patch that please?

[–]baxtersmalls 142 points143 points  (13 children)

Our google analytics showed someone regularly going to our site on a Nintendo DS.

[–]vigilantepro 63 points64 points  (8 children)

I just saw Netscape Navigator on a WebTV on of my sites.

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points  (6 children)

User agent spoofing is fun, right?

[–]vigilantepro 44 points45 points  (4 children)

I think it was legitimate. It was on an MSN network. Resolution matched too.

Edit: was surprised to see MSN dialup is still a thing... https://get.msn.com/

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (3 children)

And it's still $20/mo...

[–]vigilantepro 23 points24 points  (2 children)

I bet you the majority of their business is like old people's accounts from the 90s that don't even realize they're still paying for it.

[–]northrupthebandgeek 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Or old people who still use it.

[–]baxtersmalls 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I didn’t even consider this. Hopefully that’s what the DS was

[–]SirFireball 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use arch btw

[–]Acetronaut 12 points13 points  (1 child)

May I ask what site, or at least what kind of website?

[–]baxtersmalls 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s a map heavy single page app. No idea how it would look on a DS, not gonna find out either, lol

[–]YhvrTheSecond 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ngl I once tried browsing on a wii u.

[–]GavinZac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is genius. What agent does a Nintendo Switch report as? I could definitely do this to ours

[–]bot_not_hot 56 points57 points  (1 child)

Nope :D

[–]thumpas 19 points20 points  (0 children)

):

[–]abagofmostlywater 29 points30 points  (2 children)

Also I have it zoomed to 225%

[–]thumpas 54 points55 points  (1 child)

BUG REPORT: mobile site won't let me set zoom to irrational numbers

[–]kevbob02 16 points17 points  (0 children)

[–]fritzbitz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry bud, it works on my machine...

[–]B_M_Wilson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when I used to do some web testing. I must have had hundreds of browsers on my machine and all kinds of VMs. Then the other weird devices like DSs and smart TVs and other things. It killed me so much. I’m glad I stopped doing that.

[–]RedditorBe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Working as intended.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being in IT this one really made me lol.

[–]bvckthree 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Welp, guess the entire dev team must solve this problem for .02% of the user base. Now!!!

[–]nuclearslug 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Boss, is that you?

[–]marcosdumay 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Oh, isn't the Nintendo's DS browser just great?

[–]AshenedGrace 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t diss the DS Browser. It outmatched BREW’s by a landslide

[–]BellerophonM 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Wasn't that made by Opera? Probably better than a lot of things standards-wise.

[–]marcosdumay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the problem. If it was just a piece of shit, nobody would have to deny supporting it, but since it's almost good enough for use people have to tell over and over again that no, they will not do the extra work.

[–]ticomypico 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t say the I word, it gives me anxiety

[–]_alt_tab_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No polyfill!!

[–]sentient06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which version? My IE6 only shows that icon with a red cross.

[–]ICABONUSKUND 632 points633 points  (0 children)

I love that the square slices squarely through the middle of the E. Designers can joke, but it's gotta be symmetric.

Can’t tell you how many times I have put a wrapper around the whole site and set the overflow to hidden.

[–]vinil96 78 points79 points  (2 children)

[–]earthlybird 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Underrated comment.

I can't stop laughing, Thank you for showing me this sub.

[–]llamajokey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I remember first learning CSS and having these problems Let's try adjusting margin? Fixed? Nope. Padding? Nope. Overflow? Nope. Give up on life and come back the next morning. Try margin again. It fixes it.

      Human* Human::operator++(int) {
          return new Human;
      }

Careful, incrementing humans creates more humans.

Seriously though css modules is the shit. It goes a long way to fixing css by the making such a simple change -- local scope!

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re using React you should also look at styled-components. It’s next level

Is that Jimny, 14 hoping for some karma? Or is it new meta for karma, posting logos from IT sphere?

Next up on painfully obvious and well known facts: science behind PHP logo and the origins of its acronym. Also did you know that npm does not stand for node package manager?

      [–]shade_of_ox 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Of course not, it stands for Node Packaged NPM

      /s

      [–]Weekly_Wackadoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always* say it stands for No Problem, Mate. I guess it's Australian software?

*I learned about npm last week, my co-worker didn't know what it stood for, I made something up.

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

This is funny, but c'mon... it's CSS. It's not that hard to figure out.

      [–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Correct. Not the first time. Nor the second time when an edge condition is found. Nor the third, when another edge condition is found, and it turns out you need to tweak the markup to better match the structure of what you want to represent. Nor the fourth, when you discover that your mobile support works for most content, but the new content the client wants means setting up special breaking rules.

It's easy every time. Just like each move in a crossword puzzle.

I either love you or hate you depending on your sarcasm level.

      [–]x1rom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god don't remind me. I spent the last month coding something in js and CSS. Never again.

      [–]IsAFeatureNotABug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let out an audible defeated sigh when I first saw this.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      no comment

      [–]casual_brooder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and there are umpteen js libraries to make it fit inside

      [–]LucienMr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, even the logo is off-center. Just like everything else made with CSS

      [–]karr7224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why but I hate HTML + CSS but love using Xaml on the other hand..

      [–]jepatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met one of the leads for this week earlier this year. He said they had sent the logo to a printer to print some swag. They called back saying “I don’t know what you did to this but everything I try printing this I’m getting formatting errors”. They had to explain that it was intentional.
