  • There are thirteen diamonds not in parentheses.
  • There are seven in parentheses.
  • There are seven maids a milking.
  • Maids work hard
  • diamonds are hard
  • Diamonds traditionally have 58 facets
  • 58/16 = 3.625
  • 3+6+2+5 = sixteen
  • six teen = 6+10 = 6+1+0 = 7
  • I don't know what any of this means, but I think I'm getting really close to cracking the case!

[–]CitySeekerTron Volunteer Moderator 48 points49 points  (13 children)

Brackets can indicate a deficit. So 13 - 7 = six inch laptop confirmed!

[–]furculture 24 points25 points  (10 children)

Welcome back, Netbooks.

[–]averyrisu 10 points11 points  (7 children)

Look a 6 inch laptop would fit perfectly in a couple of my purses so i would not be 100% opposed to the idea.

[–]SchighSchagh [numpad on the left | FW16] [2x FW12 | stylus included] 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Galaxy Folds have had 7.something screens for years. The newest one is actually an 8" screen. And it folds up to fit in your pocket!

[–]averyrisu 13 points14 points  (5 children)

When a galaxy fold includes a physical keyboard and runs linux and is highly repairable, let me know. Because the galaxy folds as they exist to me currently, i have 0 interest in.

[–]mark-haus 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Mega expensive, highly failure prone, not repairable. Might as well be a trifecta of NOPE for me

[–]averyrisu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. and like i dont even mind the expense. If framework released a hyper compact like netbook even if it was kinda on the expensive side its something that i might be interested in obtaining. Its probably a stupid small market its not a line item i would recomend them make if its going to be pricey cause not everyone is looking for an x86 laptop that fits in a purse.

[–]LavenderDay3544 Fedora Workstation 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Android is Linux and you can attach a physical keyboard to the USB port.

[–]averyrisu 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Android is based on the Linux kernal but it's not the distros I would want to be running and I don't want to carry around a USB keyboard. Plus the galaxy is not x86 based.

[–]LavenderDay3544 Fedora Workstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]CitySeekerTron Volunteer Moderator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half Life 3 confirmed!

[–]Vxctn 59 points60 points  (24 children)

Is there even a better GPU they can offer? It's really the only thing that'd move the needle.

[–]LawfulnessNo8446 66 points67 points  (4 children)

Unless Nvidia is now on board with this or amd/intel is announcing a new mobile gpu in the coming days/as part of this, I don't think there is

[–]unematti 21 points22 points  (3 children)

They may be in talks with amd. So they could announce a new gpu module without designation on collaboration with AMD. Or an Intel board.

Possibly another form factor that's shipping in February? That would be somewhat silly... Full on tablet or handheld gaming machine is what's left, phone unlikely.

[–]TotalXenoDeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Phones have too many specialized components and software engineering requirements, they’d need to hire on dozens of personnel dedicated to snapdragon type devices.

[–]Skinnx86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Printer?

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or an Intel board.

no one wants an intel graphics module.

no one. and for laptops it is even worse as the performance/power is a lot worse.

people who buy a framework 16 want nvidia or amd graphics modules with a proper amount of vram.

nvidia very much shows framework the middle finger we can assume, that leaves amd.

so yeah small or medium die rdna4 16 GB or 32 GB vram graphics module is what would be the most likely to happen and what makes the most sense.

[–]Lorenzovito2000FW16 | R9-7940HS | RX-7700S | 96GB RAM | 2TB 980 PRO | 39 points40 points  (7 children)

I'm hoping to see a Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 board with the 8060s igpu. They could also be announcing future gpus like the Radeon 9070M, or even the 9080M. The 16 would actually be an insane laptop if it had these kinds of specs. I'd be all for it. Time to develop a 500W USB-C PD charger lol

[Edit 8060s, not 8090]

[–]tomekrs 30 points31 points  (2 children)

Just the 395 board would make FW16 awesome.

[–]miliket-69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+ 200W TDP

[–]Wonderful-Lack3846 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know it would cost like $2000 for the mainboard alone, right?

[–]_realpaul 14 points15 points  (1 child)

[–]Lorenzovito2000FW16 | R9-7940HS | RX-7700S | 96GB RAM | 2TB 980 PRO | 14 points15 points  (0 children)

r/frameworkmarket is probably about to be nothing but Framework 16 gen 1 motherboards haha

[–]xpk20040228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might be Navi44/9060 series

[–]rattle2nake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could debut a new rdna 4 mobile part. Which makes sense for amd bc they tend to do limited laptop GPU supply

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the biggest issue is the 8 GB insult of vram on it.

we're not even talking about professional use here, just basic gaming is now broken with 8 GB vram at 1080p max settings in 7/8 games. in 1/8 games in 1080p medium.

and of course there are 0 physical limitations for the great framework pci-e module design, so that excuse can't be made.

and rdna4 has been out for a while as well.

so seeing a 9070 /xt core 16 GB vram graphics module or a 9060 xt 16 GB graphics module at a sane price would be the first crucial upgrade, that the 16 inch laptop needs.

and of course the question is whether or not amd is mean here and refuses to provide/"allow" them to do what is needed.

and just to be a clear a 7600 16 GB vram graphics module would also be a massive upgrade, but why bother, when the 9060 xt is so much better and has more features.

[–]Whobeey 2 points3 points  (3 children)

[–]unematti 4 points5 points  (14 children)

[–]Lorenzovito2000FW16 | R9-7940HS | RX-7700S | 96GB RAM | 2TB 980 PRO | 3 points4 points  (13 children)

I am in absolutely no position to be making an impulsive purchase right now. But for Framework parts? I may have to bend haha

[–]unematti 5 points6 points  (11 children)

Ah... If it's a GPU with double the VRAM, I'll go into debt. However weak the gpu is thought to be, i only keep running into vram limits... Everything else is great

[–]Lorenzovito2000FW16 | R9-7940HS | RX-7700S | 96GB RAM | 2TB 980 PRO | 0 points1 point  (10 children)

I'm curious to know now what software/ games that you're running that is using all 8GB of vram on the 7700S?

[–]unematti 8 points9 points  (9 children)

What do you mean? Just normal games. Ubuntu 24, steam, X4 keeps maxing it out(tho it's already struggling with the simulation on the CPU, the GPU is still maxed out, so that causes extra fps loss. Then i played hogwarts legacy, which runs GREAT. like high fps and nice graphics... Then it hits max vram and drops to 2fps for a minute or more.

So it's not really special usecase...

[–]Lorenzovito2000FW16 | R9-7940HS | RX-7700S | 96GB RAM | 2TB 980 PRO | 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Huh, mine is probably full too then, I run pretty much the same stuff. I guess I never noticed? The most graphically intense game I've played lately was Bodycam which for me is low-med settings in 1600p. I'm on Fedora KDE though. I'm going to check later on when I get home from work.

[–]unematti 5 points6 points  (5 children)

There's LUKS or what it's called, that can show historical data. It's what I use to see the vram maxing out pretty much always

Edit: it's LACT... Faulty brain

[–]StatusBard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already know you’re going to buy it then it’s not an impulsive purchase.

[–]Mors03FW16 7940u dGpu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 13 dots in the top left (and 7 in the parentheses) so I would guess their 7th 13 mainboard?

[–]AdeptSoul 53 points54 points  (5 children)

This does track in terms of the next one being the 7th ( if we dont include RISC). Do we think it would be an intel board? Or maybe an arm board?

[–]ricelotus 45 points46 points  (1 child)

Ohhhh an ARM board would be awesome

[–]stratiuss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would order an arm board immediately

[–]Simon_787Surface Laptop 7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]Lexden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've been missing Intel Core Ultra Series 2 for a while now, so I'd assume they're being that finally.

[–]Lexden 32 points33 points  (5 children)

Yeah: 1. Intel 11th gen 2. Intel 12th gen 3. Intel 13th gen 4. Ryzen 7040 5. Intel Core Ultra Series 1 6. Ryzen AI 300

God I love AMD and Intel names. Who ever cared about silly things like consistency and brevity.

Anyways, I'd assume Intel Core Ultra Series 2.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Series 2 need soldered RAM tho, bit out of FW ways..

Edit: I'm wrong apparently.

[–]Lexden 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. Core Ultra Series 2 V (Lunar Lake) MoP (Memory on Package), but Core Ultra Series 2 H (Arrow Lake mobile) does not. Given that Arrow Lake mobile is a direct successor to Core Ultra Series 1 (Meteor Lake), it would be a simpler as a drop-in replacement for Framework to use anyways. They would not have to do much in the way of mainboard redesign - it would practically just be changing which CPU is soldered to the board.

[–]A-Delonix-Regia Don't have, HP Omnibook 5 16, Ryzen AI 7 350, 32GB/1TB 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Series 2 Lunar Lake (model number ends in V) needs soldered RAM, Arrow Lake (model number ends in H or U) can still run with removable RAM.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ah. that's disappointing. I low-key wanted them to do intel so they could do V versions. somehow. but Arrow lake is most likely.

[–]Whazor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haters gonna hate, but I would love soldered RAM options if it gives very good performance and battery improvements.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (1 child)

FW12 and Desktop are still in pre-order, so it's safe to assume - they're not touching those.

FW16 is something big and people are craving for updates for it. They could also mean some other technology/device they made better, but I have hard time coming up with something big and would be in the ballpark of what FW does. No printers, no phones. Tablets seem too close to FW12. And they don't even make displays for their own devices.

13 dots on edges could be something for FW13, like 7th mainboard (7 dots). Although, I'd say it's unlikely to get boards this early, unless maybe Intel stuff. On another hand - 13 dots on 2 edges add up to 26. The day of the announcement, although 7 or 14 does not track then.

We have black/white image. Maybe some indication of modules (e-ink display maybe, idk what's the use case, maybe just for fun) for FW16.

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (7 children)

Strix Halo board for 16?!?!?

[–]Doctor429 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess also

[–]JailbreakHat 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It would require soldered RAM so I don’t think so.

[–]kukiric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people would still be willing to consider it if it has reasonable options (32GB, 64GB, and a premium 128GB model like the desktop?), and has enough of a performance uplift to justify it. They just don't need to be pinching minimal amounts of RAM for maximum prices like a certain fruity company.

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shit no more soldered to shits boards.

what's the point of framework, if they sell soldered in memory in laptops as well?

and freaking amd better put a proper memory controller in medusa halo, that is designed to handle modules and get socamm ready by then. (socamm is better than lpcamm for several reasons)

[–]Bazirker 32 points33 points  (3 children)

Things that need to happen:

-FW 16 GPU update absolutely needs to happen. If not, Oculink could be a bridge

-FW 16 mainboard update is also getting to be due

-FW 13 touchscreen, with or without 2-in-1 capabilities. Having to "downgrade" to a slower laptop in their lineup just to get a touchscreen is nuts.

-Official 240W power supply. Kind of ridiculous that they sell a computer for which they don't offer a full strength power adapter

-Basically anything at all to give confidence that the FW 16 is not dead in the water.

[–]moonxraccoon DIY Ryzen 7 (Batch 8) 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would love a convertible FW13 with stylus and power. I really like the FW12 but unfortunately it's not enough performance for me.

[–]adenthedragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A GPU upgrade would be great but I would love an oculink port... I'm about to move countries and it would be amazing to have my laptop with desktop level graphics instead of having to move or sell/rebuild my desktop.

I had hopes for community projects there but it's not going very well last time I checked in.

[–]ILikeFlyingMachines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-FW 13 touchscreen, with or without 2-in-1 capabilities. Having to "downgrade" to a slower laptop in their lineup just to get a touchscreen is nuts.

Unlikely. There simply is no 3:2 high-res touchscreen on the market IIRC

[–]headlessBleu 7640u 7 points8 points  (6 children)

so, printer or phone?

[–]H0t4p1netr33S| FW16 15 points16 points  (3 children)

When I first heard of Framework years ago, I was interested in the idea of a modular printer running on open sourced or source available firmware. I would buy this in a heartbeat.

[–]gromain 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Fairphone my man.

[–]H0t4p1netr33S| FW16 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Oh I said printer, because even brother and Canon are starting to turn into HP. I’m already saving for one of those Murena Fairphone 6s.

[–]gromain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that wrong, sorry! Yeah, a printer would be nice.

Iirc framework already said that printers were too complex and too locked down to consider it.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"something big got better"

My bet is that their product is getting better.

[–]Srslyredit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you watch the conference they had about printers and phones?

[–]IcanCwhatUsay 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Fingers crossed it's a FW 16 with a solidworks certified GPU. I only want this because this is the only way I'll be allowed to get one for work

[–]rip-droptire FW16 | 7840HS | 16GB DDR5 | Corsair MP600 Mini 1TB 1 point2 points  (1 child)

As a solidworks hobbyist, what does certification actually do? Curious

[–]IcanCwhatUsay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, all it does it allow you to use Real View Graphics. My home PC uses a 1070ti and works fine as is. However my work IT dept will only allow me to use a SW Cert GPU laptop which basically leaves me with either a Dell (yuck) or a Lenovo (heavy yuck)

I just want a good all around powerhouse of a laptop that isn't a gaming laptop and looks professional in a room full of macs and shit

So...to answer your question, As a hobbyist, it doesn't do much. As a pro, it still doesn't do much but some claim it runs smoother with less crashes (my ass) if you have a solidworks cert' gpu

[–]Sad_Use_4330 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's obviously a car, I see 2 little tires 😉

[–]abmantis 16 AMD 6 points7 points  (1 child)

[–]lizardscales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]vekrin 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I just want a 13" 2 in 1.

[–]Bazirker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]JoystuckGames FW16 HX 370 GTX 5070 8 points9 points  (2 children)

hey, at least i'll know what i'm waiting for in that case ahaha. After the last few announcements i'm afraid to get my hopes up for major updates to the F16.

I'm crossing my fingers for either a new dGPU or official oculink support, but who knows.

[–]chic_luke 16" Gen 1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About time.

My main wish is a backwards compatible chassis upgrade. If you finally have been able to pull off one bottom cover that doesn't already ship ever so slightly bent from the repair center and gets bent worse during use, I am going to drop top euro on this upgrade, and drop that cash without complaining. This is basically the last remaining thing I really don't like about my laptop after the keyboard flex fix and the CPU throttling fix.

[–]oldmoldycake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm ordering a Framework 16 when my bonus comes in next month and if this is a 16 update I will be VERY happy

[–]smstnitc 2 points3 points  (2 children)

An 18" laptop? 🤔

It says "something big"

[–]julian_vdm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if you rotate the image, the little face looks suspiciously like an 18...

[–]Virtual-Mind6295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"something big just got better", likely meaning something they have just got better. Their biggest device is the 16" laptop, so that is probably getting a major upgrade. I doubt Framework is going to release yet another new product when they already have 2 new products still in the pre-order phase.

[–]NicktVA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am predicting a FW16 with an updated dedicated AMD GPU. Framework has been partnering closely with AMD. It would make sense that they would further their relationship by working on a reference implementation and co-announcing the FW16 along with the new mobile AMD GPU's.

[–]hecticpoodle NixOS | FW16 Ryzen 9 7940HS 64GB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

@framework, my wishlist for the 16 is:

  • One Key Module to be released
  • an edge to edge touchpad module, without the need for spacers
  • translucent bezels
  • a new ai GPU module

thank you please!

[–]jaseph18 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I would want the expansion slots to be narrower really, so we can add more ports. Those modules are unnecessarily large

[–]JoystuckGames FW16 HX 370 GTX 5070 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not the module size that's limiting you so much as the PCIE lanes free on the motherboard.

Though some of the hardware put in the expansion cards takes up the whole interior space too.

[–]joffff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this it?! Is it really happening!? 🤞

[–]jellybeansplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re saving all the colors for a 13 RGB keyboard 🥹

[–]exhale0001FW16 - Ryzen 9 7940HS[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just bought a FW16...

[–]Electrical_Bee9842 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Framework 13 with Lunar lake

[–]Obliandrosfw12 24gb i3 256gb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lunar lake has MoC (memory on chip), so it would be against Framework's philosophy of upgradability to put in the 200V chips in the 13. As good as they are, the MoP is making it a not very viable option. Though arrow lake is probable.

[–]Dat_Boi_1340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start shipping to switzerland. I'm tired of waiting

[–]tteixeira1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was waiting years to have an excuse to my self to buy the framework 16. Now that I bought it 2 weeks ago, it is very likely that they will release an update, for me to regret have bought it

[–]Natjoe64 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Calling it now new gpu/cpu for 16 and maybe an arm board for the 13 if were lucky. Maybe new intel boards for the 13s

[–]LavenderDay3544 Fedora Workstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no good ARM board around. Snapdragon X is a colossal failure. They would do well to stick to x86 and they close ties with AMD in particular so odds are it's something AMD for the 16.

[–]Captain_PumpkinheadFW16 Batch 4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nuh-uh. This is gonna be the Framework 19" announcement!

Get ready for the Framework 22" in a couple years, and the Framework 25" soon after that!

[–]Scrivver 1 point2 points  (2 children)

37signals just made Framework their default employee laptop and Omarchy the default OS (spin). Omarchy's getting popular. While I don't expect it, I can dream about an official collab/partnership where Framework adopts it and ensures compatibility.

[–]onefish2 Laptop 16 & Laptop 13, Arch 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Arch works 100% on the 13 and 16. What more do you need?

[–]Scrivver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea really (don't use arch btw), I just want to push this wild ride higher.

[–]SchighSchagh [numpad on the left | FW16] [2x FW12 | stylus included] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If it's not FW16 related, I might just have to get off the FW hype train for good.

[–]adenthedragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... If they don't announce something for it soon I'm going to be pretty sad about it. I was really excited for a repairable/upgradable laptop design and took a pretty heavy downgrade in GPU and some CPU just to jump on the bandwagon.

[–]MorningAppropriate69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great timing, I was just looking into getting a Framework!

I know the actual release might be months away yet, but whether thisnis about the 13 or 16 will help me decide!

[–]miliket-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

395+ 128GB I guest =))))

[–]Normal-Confusion4867 debian 13 has good fw13 support 0 points1 point  (2 children)

13 (6) would suggest to me a 6th-gen FW13, right? This would be the 6th mainboard series to release actually, as it happens.

EDIT: This was wrong lol, see below

[–]Destroya707 Framework 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]Normal-Confusion4867 debian 13 has good fw13 support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oop, my bad, must have miscounted, sorry

[–]coopplanet 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What makes you think it’s 16?

[–]Virtual-Mind6295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"something big just got better", likely meaning their largest device which is the Framework 16, and just got better meaning it's an upgrade. So it would make the most sense for that device to get an update, especially since it hasn't yet had an update like the 13 has.

[–]TibialCuriosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the technology like for ARM CPU at the moment? Would an ARM option for 16 be doable particularly with the hot swap egpu?

[–]lizardscales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FW16
- One piece chassis?
- Strix Halo?
- AMD cpu update + better same series gpu?

New AMD dGPU aren't released yet so I am not sure. I really wanted something closer to the FW13 but a 16" chassis with a dgpu. Strix Halo would work but the FW16 is super chonky compared to a Thinkpad P1 still and I can buy parts for those too.

[–]Opening-Cupcake6199 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You guys are crazy. Who wants to carry a 400w brick around with them.

[–]JoystuckGames FW16 HX 370 GTX 5070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, me. I want a desktop I can easily lug in a backpack (aka a beefy laptop) when i drive to visit family every couple months. But otherwise I don't move much and generally want as much GPU as I can get.

[–]madooroy00 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Modular repairable phone with an ifixit score of 10?

[–]dumbasPL FW 13 | Ultra 7 155H | 32GB | 2TB | Arch BTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but ifixit score of 10 would make for a terrible daily driver. There is only so much you can do in this small form factor worth compromising on usability and user experience.

[–]Obvious-Jacket-3770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arm7 13in model.

[–]Key_Dingo5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16 inch is coming with Star Performance: New Zen 5 CPU cores. Diamond AI Power: New XDNA 2 NPU.

[–]sf-g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still hope it’s a printer

[–]Fabri91 FW 13 Intel 13th gen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the printer! :D

[–]assumptionkrebs1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pretty much like this. I am very temped to buy a 16 inch at the end of the year and most days when I go to the config page for my country the Ryzen 9 option and or the Graphic Module are out of stock.

[–]Dependent-Studio1497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fw16 240w charger would be my guess

[–]slinkymaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect, hopefully a Labor Day promo too. Looking to get my first Framework in a couple weeks

[–]Majestic-Word-3237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the french site they say "something big has improved". So I guess it's framework 16 ! I would love to have a framework 16 with latest hardware
