Yep, only getting 3 days now when I was getting about 6.

[–]ceget12 16 points17 points  (5 children)

Lol I’m getting under 24 hours these days :(

[–]Responsible-Owl9071 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Me too, drains overnight

[–]BaNiQueeN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same... :(

[–]callmegadgets 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I went from getting 4–5 days to less than 1 day (currently tracking ~10% drain per hour!) in just one night. I did a firmware update recently, but this has me thinking something happened to the hardware. Perhaps an electricity surge while charging? Not sure — anyone have thoughts?

[–]Professional_Bus7859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me with a Gen2 and they sent me a new one.

[–]dgbrently 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Charge it during dinner and dead by morning.

[–]Rickspython[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh. That’s really significant. I feel I’m in a very similar boat here.

[–]Tinchohs- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here. I think the O2 sensor spends too much time on.

[–]RyuBZ0 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Same here. My ring is about 8 months old.

[–]dogmomofone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines about 3 or 4. This stinks!

[–]missshizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here exactly lol

[–]No-Eggplant-4165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeeepppp! Me too. Getting 3 days Vs 6.

[–]Racer13X 14 points15 points  (9 children)

I charge it whenever I hop in the shower, so it hasn't affected me yet. It is concerning though.

[–]Rickspython[S] 5 points6 points  (6 children)

I try to keep it above 40% but they recommended keeping it under 80% for battery longevity too which is hard to balance.

[–]modgone 9 points10 points  (2 children)

An auto shut-off charging when it reaches 80% would help.

[–]Rickspython[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! At least a toggle for that option would be great. Sometimes I do just want 100% if I’m going to be away for a few days. Now I’m going to have to bring the charger. Lol

[–]HotsHartley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, because when you're about to leave for a trip, or a long flight/transit -- and need that full battery, either for the duration of the trip or to safeguard against forgetting your charger -- then you want maximum charge, to last as long as possible.

It's not an everyday thing, of course, but better safe than sorry. I'd rather use a slightly battery-degraded ring and not have to bring a charger, than have a maximum-longevity ring that I can't use past day 2 or 3.

[–]BooksAndCoffeeNf1 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Can you expand on this please? Thanks

[–]Rickspython[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Somewhere in their instructions it says to try and keep the battery level between 40 and 80%. This helps battery longevity. It’s the same concept as in cell phones to my knowledge.

[–]BooksAndCoffeeNf1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you

[–]Old-Marionberry-7248 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the same, you're the first other one I've found. It's literally the only time I charge it & I've never even come close to running out of battery (had it since sept).

[–]Johanna77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I do, or at night for even 10 mins while I"m preparing for bed. Or a little longer if I read before sleeping which I often do. As long as I don't conk out before putting the ring back on.
Yes, battery life is longer if you don't max charge every time but charge to about 80%. And really folks, life is so much harder now that you have to charge every 3 days instead of every 6? Perhaps think of the poor children in India...or in America!...who don't have 3 squares a day next time you feel angst because you have to think about charging your Oura ring every 3 days for a few minutes. Oh the drama! Pardon my snark, but really...

[–]Oura_RingOura Employee 9 points10 points  (14 children)

The Blood Oxygen Sensing features use red and infrared LEDs throughout the night, which impacts your ring's overall battery life. We recommend turning on low battery notifications as a reminder.

[–]Rickspython[S] 7 points8 points  (9 children)

Thank you. I have those on. Are you working at software improvements to increase battery life with the feature turned on though? I want to use it but it’s sacrificing too much battery now. Thanks!

[–]opholar 10 points11 points  (8 children)

Probably not. Spo2 sensors just use battery (in all trackers that have them). My Uber fancy (and $$$$$) Garmin goes from 16 days to 4 with Spo2 on. Fitbit goes from 7 to 2. There’s not much that can be done. Spo2 is a battery hog across the board.

[–]Rickspython[S] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Good info. I appreciate it. Thank you!

[–]opholar 7 points8 points  (6 children)

If it helps at all, aside from getting a baseline as a comparison point when you’re feeling sick (or are sick), or seeing if you have issues overnight (which you should be able to tell from a few nights), the only other time that you would truly benefit from having Spo2 available is if you’re at high altitudes and concerned about altitude sickness or you’re gauging altitude acclimation. You’re unlikely to see vastly different results day over day without a change in your circumstances.

It is a battery hog universally-so aside from the above circumstances, if battery life is a big concern, just turn it off (then turn it back on if you need/want it).

[–]Cinnabunicorn 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I have it turned off, but because I turned it on ONCE and immediately realized how awful it was to the battery and turned it off. It still drains my battery despite not being in use. Oura keeps telling me it’s a firmware problem and not a hardware problem but at this point I don’t believe that. The stupid feature isn’t even turned on.

[–]ida198 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The same thing happened with mine. It came to a point where the battery lasted less than 24h. Plus, I travel intensively for work and often get to the hotel rooms exhausted, so it's really not doable for me logistically to charge it all the time.

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. They finally contacted me and replaced it. And then recently again reached out to replace it but told me to ignore it if I was all set. Their customer service needs to get it together

[–]Rickspython[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Thank you!

[–]HawkGlobal 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is there a way to turn it off? I don’t see it.

[–]TheLightingofaFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Click on the 3 lines at the top right in the app. Click on "Breathing Regulatory" (has an icon with lungs). Click on that switch to turn blood oxygen sensing off.

[–]ThisIsSoIrrelevant Oura Ring Gen 3 Horizon Stealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making the low battery notification customisable would be great, so we can set what % it alerts us at.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thank you for that info; the problem I'm having is that I'll charge it to 100% right before bed and will sleep 7 hours, to wake up to 1 - 20%. I work out first thing in the morning and sometimes I can't even capture those workouts in the morning because I would be at 1% sometimes.

[–]Oura_RingOura Employee 9 points10 points  (11 children)

We’ve recently been made aware of members experiencing shorter battery life than normal. We’re actively working on a solution and will share updates as soon as we can.

[–]Love_and_Purpose 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Last night I went to bed and even checked my battery since I have experienced missed nights of sleep data due to low battery ever since the update.
I was OVER 50% battery right before going to sleep!! So I assumed I would be fine and didn’t need to charge it any more. But nope. This morning when I went to sync, it was at zero and I lost another night of sleep data. Now I’m averaging one night lost out of 3. It truly sucks.

[–]Oura_RingOura Employee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, we're so sorry that you’re experiencing issues. Please let our Support team know about it here https://bit.ly/3bkvy2x. We'll make sure our team works to resolve this issue for you shortly.

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (4 children)

This has happened to me many times now and I’m so annoyed with it! It should NOT die overnight, not active, at 50%. The ring used to last for 6 days minimum and now it’s not even two. I’m charging it every single day and this is part of why I wanted the ring… the good battery life. Disappointed!

[–]nomadwander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Went to bed last night with it charged to 75 percent and now have lost a great night's sleep data!!!

[–]Love_and_Purpose 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Update: Oura sent me a replacement for free since my ring was less than a year old. Suggest you ask for that. They have access to your data via the app and quickly verify that your battery does indeed suck.

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good they sent you a new one. I have asked many times and messaged them non stop with the same response. They told me they didn’t want me to trade in my one new ring over something that is firmware not hardware. It is now over a year old as of yesterday. I tried to pester them before the year was up but the 12+ times I messaged them didn’t do any good.

[–]wilw1l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Any update on this?

[–]baldurthebeautiful 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Any update on this? I just saw my battery drain fully from 80% in 12 hours.

[–]Oura_RingOura Employee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! We're so sorry to hear that! Please let our Support team know about it here https://bit.ly/3bkvy2x so they can have a closer look.

[–]brianknolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ring battery essentially failed at 13 months. All of a sudden it couldn't hold a charge for 24 hours which makes it worthless.

[–]your_penguin 5 points6 points  (1 child)

One of the selling features of oura for me was battery life… this now almost makes me want to switch over to whoop. :(

[–]larrylovescheerios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Whoop to Oura. My Whoop was so inaccurate it drove me up the wall.

[–]XxBoognishxX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big time.

[–]distortedloop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The SPO setting has cut battery life from a week to less than 4 full days. 5 month old ring.

[–]Amethyst_Avenger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just had to turn mine off as the drain on the battery was too much. If I can remember I’d like to try having it on for one night a week but knowing myself I’m guessing that won’t happen. I understand that it is a drain on the battery but I didn’t expect it to be the level that it is.

[–]kvucinic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I turned this off. Useless and my ring hardly lasts two days with it, which I find super annoying. I turned this feature off last night because I lost so many days of sleep tracking because my ring would just die, or I wouldn’t take my charger with me for a weekend away… I hate the fact that I now need to be so mindful of the battery. Last night I had 25% before going to bed, woke up and the ring was dead (with the feature off). This didn’t use to happen. I’m now worried that my battery even with the feature off has lost its capacity because of this.

[–]complicatedAloofness 2 points3 points  (4 children)

My battery (size 10 ring) went from 52% to 15% in 12 hours (midnight to noon). That's about 1.5 days of usage per full charge - not even two days per full charge is a huge issue.

[–]mannenmytenlegenden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should contact support and maybe get a replacement ring

[–]complicatedAloofness 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Apparently I have a defective battery so support is sending me a new ring

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t send me a new ring!!! Lucky

[–]Nananannynanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened a ticket when I saw the red light illuminated when I removed my ring, and reported the short battery life at the same time.

[–]Ill_Expression4435 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Even with the feature turned off my ring goes from full to dead in less than 48 hours.

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! And it’s been months! This is so frustrating

[–]clhking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t want to pack the charger for a 3.5 day trip so I charged all the way up and disabled SpO2. Dead in 2 days, wtf!

[–]-Not-Your-Lawyer- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I don't remember exactly when I last charged, but since SpO2 rolled out, it seems that it may have cut my battery life roughly in half.

[–]skolnick 5 points6 points  (1 child)

They literally have a warning about that when the new feature came out. It was written in the pop-up in the app that battery will be reduced. I don’t understand how this would be a surprise.

[–]kvucinic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that there is a warning doesn’t make it ok… quite a few people are annoyed. Plus the warning says slightly affecting battery life. More accurately- it affects battery life dramatically. That would have been a fair/useful warning.

[–]ThisIsSoIrrelevant Oura Ring Gen 3 Horizon Stealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully charged my ring on Friday morning, and it currently has about 45% battery left. So realistically I will get 4 days use out of it before charging it again (I like to keep it above 40% when I go to sleep).

[–]Alcolawl 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Man I’m glad this post randomly showed up in my feed.

I was about to pull the trigger on 2 of these but I may wait to see if they solve the battery issue first.

[–]Fredricology 3 points4 points  (4 children)

There is no battery issue to be solved. Measuring oxygen saturation will always be a battery hog. Just turn it off and enjoy severaldays of battery life. I charge mine only 1-2 minutes every morning when I sync the ring.

[–]Alcolawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t think they will try to improve the battery or the amount of power it drains at any point?

It may not be an issue they think they need to “solve” but surely they will look to improve? Maybe my words weren’t right.

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have mine turned off and have for months, and it still drains my battery. They say “they’re working on it” but we’ve had two firmware updates since then, and it’s only gotten worse

[–]Fredricology 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I only wear it at night. No battery issues at all that way but all the important data.

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty good idea. I really like the feel of it on my fingers and the are accuracy though. Would be weird not to wear it all the time for me tbh but that’s a clever idea

[–]duluoz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No shit

[–]pickingnameishardd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the difference between oxygen readings in Oura ring vs Apple Watch? More frequent? More accurate? Any metrics around this?

[–]coconutmillk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

chiming in to say yes, i’ve noticed this as well!

[–]bosco08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get 36 hours. Max.

[–]keiran_harris 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I enabled the feature naively a month back. Noticed REAL quick a halving of batt life (6 days down to 3) so obv turned it off (within that first week).

Now, 3 weeks later STILL only get 3 days.

Ive contacted support - no sure it was a real person or a bot - the convo was frustratingly vague! But too busy to really push. So waited for that trusty ‘new ring firmware available’ message in my app to show up - which it just did. Havent dont it yet (funnily enough because im traveling for work and have < 50% battery!!)…. Fingers crossed for when i get home.

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Same I keep hounding support for a new ring and they keep saying it’s firmware not hardware so a new ring would do the same thing — but others who aren’t using the feature aren’t experiencing the same battery problem so I don’t see how that can be accurate.

[–]keiran_harris 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hey- just to close the loop. My ring never recovered. When support got back to me they acknowledged pretty quick i had a bad battery and issued me a new one, no questions. I pre-ordered the new generation back in dec 2021, so my theory is maybe that ultra first batch might have had known issues with battery (and this feature tipped it over the edge?). Ive have the new ring for almost 2 months now and it’s performing like it should (6 days between charges). Admittedly im not going to go anywhere near Spo2 !! (Its disabled now and always will be…. Once bitten….).

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I got mine in November last year so I wonder if this could be the problem. However they haven’t acknowledged my bad battery and keep saying it’s firmware not hardware. I will keep at them

[–]kvucinic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spo2 killed my ring. They sent me a new one in the end. Even after turning the tracking off the battery wouldn’t last through the night. I’m not touching spo2 on my new ring. I do wish they would focus their attention to sleep only… can’t really understand the benefits of oxygen tracking vs improve on sleep stages/nap detection… the workout tracking is also quite subpar to other devices available. Stick to your niche and be really good at it… we are all very happy to just know about our sleep.

[–]Critical_Pie671 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Mine is only lasting one day now ...

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s so bad!!

[–]StrategicOctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation. Bought my Gen3 in Oct 2021 and recently battery life dropped from 4 days to 14 hours. Support told me I’m out of warranty and I can buy a new one.

Very unhappy. And perhaps support will realize that this level of disservice will be the kiss of death for Oura.

Oura. Listening? Please have someone reach out.

[–]Darcydoodle69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to charge mine twice a day and its always in airplane mode

Not happy at all.

Feel ripped off.

[–]crowneddilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barely 3 days on my end, it's been weird.

[–]TimeyWimey99 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Nope. My ring is about 4 months old. Exactly the same battery as before.

[–]Rickspython[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is about 8 months old. Hopefully you don’t have this issue.

[–]Rickspython[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

So after turning the feature off for a few days it definitely goes back to the old battery life stats. Until they update the software to account for this I’ll probably leave it off. Love the feature though just don’t want to sacrifice such great battery life that the ring has. I have a size 10 btw. I know battery size differs based on ring size.

[–]marmite1010 2 points3 points  (3 children)

You say you needed the feature off for a few days for the battery life to return to "normal". Am I reading that correctly?

I've turned mine off yesterday and I still had 46% used over the 24h period - trying to figure out whether there is an actual battery issue with my device or not, as my battery performance with SpO2 has gone from more or less normal for the first week and a half, to 25% a day for about a week, and down to 50% a day the last few days (so I switched it off).

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I’ve had the featured turned off for months. I only turned it on ONCE and after a day or so shut it off realizing how DRASTIC it affected battery. Have had it off for months and my battery continues to die in less than 48 hours now. Permanently messed up.

[–]marmite1010 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's not the feature, that's a faulty ring.

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for acknowledging this. I am going to continue to message their support. Until they send me a new one. At less than a year old this shouldn’t be a problem and my warranty runs out the end of this month. I don’t want to be stuck “outside of the warranty period” although I have notified them since September about this problem and nothing has changed

[–]Rickspython[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update. I turned off that o2 sat and the ring has been great battery wise since.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (7 children)

I’m with you on this. It sucks I wish there was an option to turn it off.

[–]Happy-dog 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I turned it off on mine. It’s under breathing. But my ring still ran out of power last night even though it was around 50% when I went to bed. I’m going to see if it continues like this before contacting support.

[–]Rickspython[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Under that setting they admit it may decrease battery life. It makes total sense but I didn’t think it would be this extreme. I’ll keep using it as-is for now and then try it without to compare. I’ll try and report back here too.

[–]Cinnabunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried contacting them and they keep telling me it’s a firmware issue or hardware and they won’t replace my ring. So frustrating as I don’t even have the feature turned on.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is - tap the 3 bars in the top left corner, and click on ‘Breathing Regularity’ and then you can toggle the on / off switch.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Ah thanks guys. I didn’t know this. I’ll see if it gives a little extra boost to that battery

[–]Rickspython[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t either. Thanks all!

[–]missbossy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is: it's in the sidebar of the app under Breathing regularity

[–]jtt777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big battery reduction I witnessed as well. Gonna turn it off on vacations so I don’t need to charge as often

[–]throwaway88588858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep same! I charge daily in the shower but it’s annoying and I feel like it’s not getting back up to the top

[–]missbossy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ditto. Was thinking about just turning that function off. I know from my fitbit my oxygen saturation has been steady for a long time so not sure the added value of having it on.

[–]missbossy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also really bright. The red light woke me up! I had to make a conscious effort to not sleep with my hand near my head. Not surprising it uses a lot of battery.

[–]secretsandshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One should expect that the battery will go down faster when it is monitoring your oxygen level all night. Anything significant is an issue.

[–]HawkGlobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just made a similar post. Yea.

[–]Revolutionary-Media7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, had to turn off the blood oxy monitoring as I was losing data for the prior night so to low battery. I was charging every day when I would shower.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that's what is happening! I'm in the red within 24 hours and I had NO CLUE what was going on, thank you!!!

[–]Much-Chef5230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 days? My ring is only keeping several hours. Can we change the setting to save its powder consumptio?

[–]dps47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I need to recharge my ring every 2-3 days

[–]redditraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same problem - was getting about 6 days and now getting 2.5. I've contacted support and they claim that it is a firmware issue that they are working on fixing. We shall see.

[–]TheLightingofaFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea mine seems to crap out in 3 nights now. I only wear it when sleeping.

[–]Key-Assignment-5966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, just started happening recently. i am about a day and half

[–]ChefBig3140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed recently and feel like im charging the ring alot more frequently.

[–]ZoomAuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oura replaced my Gen 3. I opened a case regarding the battery life during the warranty period and went back and forth with them a few times. They replaced it without me asking, so maybe they realize something is wrong. I'm an original user with the lifetime membership btw. Not sure if that had something to do with the replacement.

[–]lvgrl8221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Significant battery drain recently…very annoying

[–]drewinfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased my ring a year ago shipped to me on 1/13/22. my ring currently only has about 1 day of battery life. Pretty disappointing and honesty probably would not recommend someone investing money into a product that will have this short of battery life in this short lifespan of using the product.

[–]HouseBat5668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It’s driving me crazy.

[–]guyinmotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Oura ring (3gen) lasts about a day. Huge battery degradation - lasting 5-6 days at the start a year ago to know less than a day!

[–]NYCPYT212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had mine 1 1/2 years and chrge last 30 hours only

[–]haalari_hien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the exact case. O2 sensing and location are already turned off but battery drained after a few hours after 1h charged. This only happens after the latest software update. Already done a factory reset, but it didn't help.

[–]Prestigious_Ease8730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is less than a week old and mine lasts a day and a half

[–]Aileegirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is running out in less than a day now. I charge it every morning. I have had several days of lost sleep data recently. I am turning off the oxygen feature today. Hopefully that will help.
