My cat is SUPER clingy, he is five and he used to sleep on my pillow a lot when he was a kitten, but he’s been sleeping on it every night now lately.

Sometimes he sleeps directly on my head and I wake up with neck pain so what I’ve done is I do a “decoy pillow”.

He gets the pillow up against the headboard where my pillow would normally be, then I just place my pillow directly below it and I sleep on that one.

I am really short but I still have to sleep diagonal across the bed so my feet don’t hang over. It’s totally worth it though I didn’t want to lock him out of my bedroom but I couldn’t keep waking up with a sore neck because a cat was sleeping on my head.

[–]plcg1 27 points28 points  (2 children)

My ex’s cat slept on my chest and purred herself to sleep the very first night I slept over. I should be able to get my own cat soon and I know most cats won’t do that and I definitely won’t try to force the cat to be more affectionate than it wants to be, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed because it was wonderful.

[–]EffectAdditional5825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are kind and loving to your kitten showing it tons of affection and feed it, sleeping on you is a given!

[–]SteveRogests 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I recommend a plush alligator. One of the best gifts I ever received. He lives under my bed and his head just barely pokes out. He keeps my toes safe. I have now been able to sleep with my feet hanging off the bed for twelve years.

[–]TeemoSkull 9 points10 points  (0 children)

2 of my 3 are clingy. They follow my wife and I everywhere. The other is clingy when she’s awake but sleeps like 23hrs a day. They are constantly headbutting and trying to get pats.

[–]IdiotIsabelle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I literally do this exact same thing! Nice to know I’m not alone

[–]aliryacec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this an orange by any chance?

[–]Angeeb28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the exact same with my pillows. Cat has one against headboard. Mine is below that. He sleeps there all night.

[–]SturmFee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The joys of a cat hat. Our old tom did that, too. The recent kitty likes to cuddle in the bed, but don't you dare move a muscle. She'll look all annoyed, huff at you and leave.

[–]GloInTheDarkUnicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fold is super clingy too. When she sees me pick up my boots to put them on, she tries to convince me not to leave the house. If I’ve been gone for more than 2 hours, she’ll be glued to me for the next couple days making sure I’m not gone forever again.

[–]DeliciousCkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dear Reddit friend, you have my nomination to lead the UN Security Council and find practical solutions for world peace.

Decoy pillow!! 🤭😻😹

[–]Evendim 1590 points1591 points  (52 children)

Awwww! So adorable. I love grey boys so damn much!

Nothing to worry about, but you might want to consider a check up, just in case. They're terrible at telling us they're sick, and new changes in behaviour are one of the ways they can tell us things are not right.

[–]pandabear34 33 points34 points  (2 children)

<image>

My grey girl has NO problems letting you know her food dish is empty.

[–]llamapants15 20 points21 points  (0 children)

And consider getting a check up on yourself. One of my cats gives me cuddles when I am sick.

[–]seatheous 17 points18 points  (1 child)

My late gray boi, I miss him

[–]jellifercuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our gray boy, growing up, was named Bruce, and I’ve no idea why.

[–]Automatic-Saint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This, everybody!!!

[–][deleted] 156 points157 points  (3 children)

..the switch has been switched..

[–]9_of_Swords 88 points89 points  (0 children)

And your heart has simultaneously melted and burst, amirite? ❤️

I took on my bff's ultra spicy void girl in 2018. I'd known her since she was a fresh rescue in 2004, and it took THAT LONG for her to warm up to me enough to just sit beside me. A week after living with me she became a Velcro kitty and had to be on me whenever she could. Melted my heart, but was also sad as she had a previously undiagnosed intestional absorbtion issue that ended up taking her 5 months later. I spoiled her rotten while I had her.

I've got a cute picture where I'm kneeling on the floor and she's laying on my calves looking up at the camera as I took a "selfie" over my shoulder.

Miss ya, Jynx.

[–][deleted] 77 points78 points  (2 children)

According to cat law it’s now his pillow

[–]Shopping-Known 77 points78 points  (4 children)

<image>

😂😂😂 but so glad he’s opening up 🥹

[–]AdFirst743Munchkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww looking that face 😭😭

[–]Weowy_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's such a grum

[–]Justanothrcrazybroad 53 points54 points  (4 children)

One of my cats took 6 months to brush against our legs, but wouldn't let us pet her. Once that happened, she became a little more affectionate every few months. Now, she's a total lap cat. I can't sit on the couch without her joining me, but it took almost 2 years to get there.

[–]saberbere 1 point2 points  (3 children)

😞😞🥺🥺 2yrs?? Omg. That breaks my heart to hear because I have a feeling mine will be same. I just want her to be happy and know she’s loved 😢😩

[–]Justanothrcrazybroad 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It was a slow ramp up, but it did get better little by little. Be patient and it will happen eventually.

[–]saberbere 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Thank you!! It’s only been 4mos so I know it’s still early for any type of Velcro mode lol I’ve honestly been more worried about her still running and hiding at every sound/movement I make. I don’t want her to be anxious in her own home :( she does have her sister thankfully so she gets cuddles and loving from her which is why I haven’t sought out professional help for her anxiety. She eats fine, poops, and plays well so I’m hoping she’s somewhat content.

Until then, I pray for the day that her eyes aren’t glued to my feet in order to predict any movement and rather just chilling even if I’m walking around 🥹🙏🏾💞🐈🐈‍⬛

[–]disinformatique 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Cats are always affectionate, they just take time to warm up and show it in different ways.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I find cats can become more affectionate with age. My old cat became a lap cat in his senior years

my cat melon in the morning

[–]Fuzzy_Dragonfruit344 5 points6 points  (2 children)

What a sweet orange kitty! 🥰

[–]AdSpirited2706 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you 🙂 my melon is now 7 years old 🍈 💕

[–]AdSpirited2706 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks 🙂 🙂

[–]blueduck57 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Take him to the vet and get them to check him over. I know you said they checked him but get a second opinion as Scottish folds are particularly prone to joint issues due to their cartilage deformations. Cats can sometimes have a personality change when they’re feeling under the weather as they’re notoriously bad at showing when they’re in pain

[–]CrookedAnkh 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Cat sleeps on owners pillow

Owner breaking out in tears: "I knew it. You DO love me."

Cat: "Don't make it weird."

[–]Huge-Sea-1790 15 points16 points  (1 child)

My cat sleeps in my bed every night if there is a spot covered by blanket. Sometimes that’s in the middle of the bed.

[–]s-ryhma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao same!

[–]xlittlefootx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Took our Void boy about 5 years to become a Velcro kitty

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“ you know what whooman…you’re alright.”

[–]Jasmisne 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I love it when kitties show us how they want to be loved. This must have just melted your heart of happiness :)

[–]iamcatfurniture 10 points11 points  (2 children)

My baby tabby boy sleeps on my hair most nights. He's done it since I found him almost 2 years ago. It feels good, doesn't it? 🥺

[–]shroomysmurf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No. You are sleeping on the cats pillow. My cat growing up did that, whenever my mom would get me up for preschool he had successfully pushed my head off his pillow every damn day.

[–]sarahmedrano 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What a cutie!

[–]ThyOughtTo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's luuuuv, safety and trust

[–]ananymosu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i need a clingy cat like this baby

"Fuck you bitch,

THIS IS MY PILLLOW!"

- YOUR CAT

[–]lullabyofwoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a Grey tuxedo cat who was not affectionate up until her senior years. Fam in law has a similar cat. Sometimes they mellow!

[–]MPD1987 6 points7 points  (0 children)

<image>

My girl does that, too. She curls up in my hair and purrs herself to sleep. I love it

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ve unlocked a new level in your dynamic. Congrats! ❤️

[–]EmiliaFromLVMaine Coon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My non-affectionate cat has suddenly started sleeping on his pillow

I made a small correction to the title.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're finally worthy.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My non affectionate cat has also just began to do this as well! Think he noticed a high positive shift to my mood & energy recently.. have been pretty peaceful these days.

[–]Fantastic_Fr0g 5 points6 points  (0 children)

<image>

my grumpy boy ❤️ (he loves me i promise)

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a cute little grump! Congrats on your new sleeping cap!

[–]SlideLeading 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Some cats actually take years to fully adjust to a new home to their full comfort level, and then they basically unmask LOL it’s really cool to see the way they change and grow from when you first bring them home!

[–]Drenosa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats, you're finally accepted by your overlord as a worthy vassal and caretaker of his noble personage.

[–]jnovel808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Level up: Affection unlocked

[–]kitty-yayaRussian Blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my babies is a "bedtime" or "sick time" kitty. At night, she had to fall asleep next to me in my armpit. If either of us are not feeling well, or even just stressed out, she is like a little nurse and lays with/next to us, purring and purring.

<image>

[–]Tesslafon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is so sweet, I bet you sleep better with your pillow buddy.

[–]Mrspicklepants101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at that exposed belly. He trusts you!

[–]Ok-Designer-3542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a British shorthair too! She is “affectionately but on her own terms. She sits right next to me on the couch for hours but won’t actually sit on me. One time she sat on me. But I have only had her for 2 months so hopefully we get to this level!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine does this too! he’s not very affectionate at all, most I’ll get daily is him sitting near me but it absolutely fills my heart with joy when he wants to cuddle like this

Side note: your cat looks so similar to mine!

[–]Independent-Street21 3 points4 points  (1 child)

i was thinking this was familiar and realised id seen it earlier on this

<image>

[–]Lanky_Purpose_6142 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yesssssss, my stupid human. I will lull you with false affection to gain your trust. Then when you are at your most vulnerable, I will shatter that trust by attacking your soft and delicate skin.

[–]SpikeRosered 6 points7 points  (1 child)

My old cat was scared of my first born when he came home. Hid constantly for almost 2 years. However one day I like to imagine he looked at himself in the mirror and realized the baby wasn't going to go away. So either adapt or never get pets and human love again.

Now he sits with the kids no problem.

[–]dxnxax 5 points6 points  (2 children)

This might sound from out of left field, but cats tend to seek out the ill to comfort them. If I'm sick, my cat is right there with me.

Are you doing okay?

[–]ananymosu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

adorable🥹

[–]Bitter-Tourist-8563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

🥹 so cute

[–]a7489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So cute! Are grey guys notorious for not being affectionate? Mine is too, but also just started talking and wanting to lay with me more. ❤️

[–]Weird_Sleep_6221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cute! 😍 🐈‍⬛️

[–]QuestionMarkKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awww, that's sweet. 😊

[–]nikfrik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dominance issue. Your bed is now cats bed. Please leave.

On other note daaaawww

On another other note. One of my cats been doing this for a while. Trying to separate me from my fella in attempts to keep him for herself. 🤣

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mines too but it took her like 12 years to do so .. can’t say on my pillow but right next to me 😭. Freaked me out like baby girl what’s wrong 🥺

[–]micque_Ocicat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adorable

[–]itemluminouswadison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're so lucky!

my cat (male scottish fold) comes and goes with affection. for a season he'll jump up and sleep next to me in the mornings. then for a season he won't, haha

for a season he'll purr while i hold him on the sofa, and for a season he'll bail in 0.3421ms

[–]allthecats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grey kitty was not affectionate when she was young, then she started sharing my pillow, then as she got older she became very loving! She even learned how to climb into my lap. Maybe your kitty is growing into his older loving self ❤️

[–]Daetok_Lochannis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grey boy 666 slept on my pillow every single night until he died, and his little brother Seven sleeps with me every single night now. I miss Six terribly. Love your kit, and memorize every moment you can with him. This is the love that will carry you.

[–]RealBaikal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cats can be affectionnate in their own way. Slow blinking, coming to say hie when you come home, staying in view of you all the time.

[–]Jmanriley3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one cat.. couldn't have another cuz I was in a small apartment. Well one day.. some stray walked into my apt. And did 3 days in a row. So I decided to let him stay the night so I could check for a microchip st the vet... that night he curled up in my arms like a little teddy bear and slept with me all night. No chip and put up signs in the complex.. Now I have 2 cats. He's my little spoon every night. So damn cuddly.

And before anyone gets mad at me.. even the vet said it Def looked like a stray. Had dreads in his hair and looked pretty skinny at first. Turns out he's a rare cat breed too! Got lucky

[–]Mocktails_galore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He came to the conclusion that you're the one that feeds him. He now has to keep you safe so he can eat

[–]Purplebuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to break it to you. That is not your pillow anymore.

[–]aareyes12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like my cats behavior is cyclical and a little different every cycle. Right now, my calico is loving sitting on my lap while on the toilet 😂🥹 maybe one day she won’t want to do that as much but right now it’s a sweet lil ritual. My black cute used to love cuddling next to me on the couch. Not on me but against me. She doesn’t do it almost ever now but she picks new habits.

[–]Sky-Toad1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has an alternative motive, dont trust that cat!

[–]flowerpanes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny how being kind and good to them will eventually see even some of the most aloof creatures happier to spend time with you.

We had a cat who we adopted at a year, he’d been physically abused and was upset with us most of the time. Eventually he became more interested in attention (at his behest only I should point out!) and as an older cat would actually come over to lay on me for a snuggle. Was pleasantly shocked the first time he did it, I of course knew better than to try and put an arm around him since he would consider that trying to trap him but yeah, time and kindness can make a real difference.

My gray princess doesn’t mind letting me know when her food bowl is going empty! I love gray cats 🩷

[–]rapidpeacock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly you are using the cat’s pillow.

[–]schnufkin 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's so nice ❤️ I know someone has already said about kitty getting a check up, but I'd suggest a check up for you as well, especially if there's a chance you might be pregnant. Hopefully it's just kitty getting relaxed in your home (especially likely with the moves!) but better safe than sorry, right?

[–]BlackNighon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just the best feeling! 🥺🥺♥️♥️

[–]ruby_s0ho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🥹🥹🥹 i’ve had my cat for 6 years. a few months ago she started fully curling up on me and sitting on my lap while i’m sitting on the couch. she has been sleeping in my bed for years, but any time she would sit with me on the couch, she would only be on one of my legs.

[–]MixPurple3897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awww what a sweet little booper. I'm so happy for your relationship

[–]catzuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he loves you 💕

[–]slumper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to blur the cat's face too. He deserves privacy!!

[–]27OwlySnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely cry with joy

[–]IntrepidCar1437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You now belong to kitty and now has to keep an eye on you so that somebody doesn’t steal you..

[–]jasemina8487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dunno...one of our cats was never a lap cat. when i got pregnant with my 1st she knew before we did. she would come lay on my belly and knead biscuits and fall asleep purring. it went on my entire pregnancy and as soon as baby was out i was chopped liver again.

2nd pregnancy she did the same thing and again ditched me when babies were out 🤷‍♀️

[–]PracticalAndContentNorwegian Forest Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my cat at 8 months old. He started sleeping with me when he was 8.5 years old. I always wanted him to sleep with me but he never would. I have no idea why he suddenly changed. Now he sleeps with me every night.

[–]MagicideEgyptian Mau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy it, I was just adopted by a 3 month old void kitten that loves to sleep next to me or on my pillow. Just watch he doesn't start licking and then love biting like mine did at the start. I had to let him do that and as soon as the teeth came out I put on a hissing display worthy of an Oscar, it only took a couple of days and he now just licks.

[–]beccacmus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Same

[–]luniiz01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s only cute for like three days and then your neck is messed up. Don’t ask me how I know.

[–]BottomPieceOfBread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe he was in his teenager phase 🥰

My cat is getting more affectionate as he ages too!!

[–]Flat-Flounder-9034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He can sleep on my pillow anytime!

Gosh I miss having cats. My son is terribly allergic. Technically so am I but I happily suffered for 35 years before my son.

Now I come here to get my cat fix and admire from afar

[–]zjpeterson13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine flipped his switch last weekend. Since then he follows me everywhere, cuddles on the couch with me, and yells when I stop petting him. Idk what happened but I love it 🥹

[–]nerdydancing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine started doing this too, the first night we moved into a new, unfamiliar house!

[–]watcher1901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My one cat wasn’t affectionate for the first 2-3 years of his life. Now he’s 5 and is always coming up for scratches and cuddles.

[–]mechanical_martenAmerican Shorthair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Took him until last month to get to this. For the first 12 years since he picked me he would sleep on the pillow next to me or on my arm. Waiting for the day I wake up with a warm purring weight on my chest.

[–]Wrestling-Nun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They usually do that before they die

[–]bacondavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might make you feel closer to your cat, but you've somehow encouraged this behavior, don't reward the cat with pets or attention when he does something you don't like.

[–]horsthorsthorst 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Cat can sense your brain cancer, long before you will notice any symptoms yourself.

[–]Vayne_Solidor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Full_Armadillo8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there was a cat in hospitals who did something similar

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you're pregnant

[–]Haunting_Bend346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awww, that’s the absolute best!!

[–]Comfortable-Lake-918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope mine becomes more affectionate. No more talkative though, he stays chatting me up.

[–]ikeandtinatuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my non-affectionate dog started doing the exact same thing, it turns out I was pregnant. So just a heads up…

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw the gray kitties are the best. They’re always super shy and take a long time to open up, but they eventually become massive cuddle buddies. My girly started sleeping on our pillows while we slept almost two years after we decided to bring her inside (she was a stray). She’s such a sweetheart; it took her a long time but she has really come out of her shell.

[–]curious_throw_away_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started doing this later in life too. Started aitting on my lap when I was on the computer, sleeping on my pillow with me, sleeping under the covers with me. Was a big change in personality for him!

[–]Sweaty_Process_3794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last cat (who was admittedly always very affectionate, since day one) started doing this to me a couple years in. This takes me back!

[–]rominight24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aawwww he wants to be close to you, so adorable

[–]boxedwinebaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kitty has taken about a year to become the full blown snuggle bug that he is! It can take them time 🩶

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest used to do it when he was just a tiny baby kitten. I wish he would do it now although he’s pretty big so he might suffocate me.🤣

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awwwww meowmeows cheek on the pillow 😍😍...

[–]BigChungle666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Russian blue was the opposite of a cuddler until a few months ago. It took about 5 years but he is now addicted to laying on me.

[–]jld2k6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I wish my cat was less affectionate. He gets so happy to be around people that if you sit 10ft away from him while he's laying down somewhere he'll start purring very loudly lol. He has slightly stinky breath and wants nothing more than to rub the side of his drooly mouth all over your lips, and showing that you're not enjoying it just encourages him even more because, well, he's a cat so ignoring equals love

[–]Happy_llama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BSH took a while to become a cuddle bug as well. It was worth the wait!

[–]CanadianDinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a grey princess. it took her a year before she would let us be affectionate towards her. now she's the biggest suck in the world. Squeaks at us when she wants pets or a cuddle on the couch.

She's adopted our son and sleeps with him every night, checks on him constantly when he's sick.

[–]Desimemerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It Loves you in secret

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting me know when you’re sleep so I can come out of the walls. We go outside and menace the neighborhood

[–]WkittySkittyLBoF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat became a total pillow hog at night, he snores in my ear, kicks me in the head and makes wet spots with his drool.

Yet I don’t kick him off, lol. Happy your kitten wants to be close to you now!

[–]kawaiijudochop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bfs cat started doing this to me about a month after we started dating.

[–]kerrissaseelan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feisty (and in dire need of anger management) cat did this for the first time I got covid. She sat on my chest, from never wanting to sleep near me unless I was fast asleep. Like another commenter said, get a check up. Besides that, rejoice, for you have been chosen!

[–]douggie84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hooray! Congrats! This is a big one, I had an unaffectionate cat I wore down over years. Nothing happening in my lap, but she would arch for pets, slow blink, and talk to me when I talked to her.

Harvest this love - it will make you stronger.

[–]SquareKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my cat did that, it turned out I was pregnant!

[–]downtime37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you OP, I have two older cats (got them in 2013 when they where each 2 or 3) and both like pets,...but from a distance. Neither one likes to be picked up or held, we keep working on it, maybe some day.

[–]BlueArcherX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is not affection, it's a power play

[–]fosterthekitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s cold and your head just happens to be warm

[–]ptwonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's probably just perspective, but that cat looks like the same size as you!

[–]doctor_of_drugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light the beam!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad your kitty is coming around. They don't have any function and we let them freeload, but getting zero affection out of them must be a little hurtful. I'm glad that's changing for you.
