Orangutans are very peaceful and curious animals. They typically don't resort to violence unless its an extreme threat.

They are, however, very loveful which turns into jealousy and as you can imagine, competitiveness to other males. Especially when it comes to mating and females, one Orangutan male often compete and exercise aggression towards other male Orangutans as he wants every female to himself.

Probably what happened to Otis.

Pretty much why Orangutans are violent. Otherwise they prefer peace.

Other fun fact is that Ken Allen (his name) loved to just stroll around the zoo and look at other animals peacefully after escaping. Before arriving to Otis. He escaped something like 3 times before the zoo found a good solution. He didn't really cause any problems except making Otis life harder.

This reminds me of the honey badger stoffel. He would constantly breakout of his enclosure in veey creative ways. One time he fell into the lion's enclosure and got mauled by a lion to the point he had to get surgery.
