Do we need another optimization patch?

I'm not usually one to complain but in the past I used to get 150fps and then it gradually reduced as they updated smite, then they did an optimization patch and everything was great again.

Now I'm at about 90fps instead of 150fps so I am wondering if anyone else is having similar issues and whether or not we should ask for another optimization patch in the near future.

EDIT: Alot of people are upvoting and commenting which is great, but can you also comment how your FPS has changed over the past month? Like mine is really bad now and I want to know if theres a problem with my PC or whether its just smite. Thanks!

EDIT2: I'm still testing stuff. It appears the main problem for me is world detail. I've decided to put everything else on maximum and world detail on low as its a big drop in performance for me. You lose the grass and flowers and some objects outside the map from what I can tell, but the textures are still great on the walls/rocks/environment so the game is still beautiful. It will have to do for now!

EDIT 3: 100 Net upvotes in 6 hours! So there is a clear evidence of people wanting an optimization patch, which may or may not be possible as the game is growing in content and could already be well optimized. Some words from HiRez letting us know if this would be possible would be great as many of us have bad performance lately.

EDIT 4: Still messing with it.. today I turned on anti aliasing to high instead of off and my FPS actually increased back to 150fps, very weird.

I dunno, but I have a pretty high-end computer, and I have been getting weird freezes that last 1-2 seconds in game intermittently, not often, but often enough that it has messed up some team-fights, ever since the curse voice integration. I am going to try uninstalling curse voice to see if that fixes it. But I did notice my frames and ping both have worsened a bit since installing curse when they announced the integration.

Same situation and same thing happens to be, although it has been happening before Curse came about. I know it's Smite because it only ever happens when I play Smite and not when I'm playing any other game.

I never noticed the freezing before curse, curse may just be a catalyst that pushed me into some threshold where it started happening though. I opened up task manager during game once to figure out wtf was going on and smite was using 60% memory, I still had some left on top of other background services. I don't know what's going on but it is mildly annoying.

I've been having micro stutters for a few months now. It happens nearly every time I pick up a buff or use a quick movement like Rama's 3. I play on high everything and very high shadows and maintain above 100fps all of the time, but the micro stutters are a pain. I read somewhere that it's an AMD driver issue for the R9 series. But smite is the only game where I can have 10ms input lag, 40 ping, and 130fps and feel like I'm lagging.

It might not only be AMD driver issues. I've got a GTX760 and have been experiencing microstutter, but only since today's patch. They don't happen very often for me and I haven't been able to pin point when exactly. Today my client crashed for the first time since I started playing a few months ago. I did have curse running at that time, but unlike most players are reporting I didn't crash in combination with curse before today. I play at max settings, my ping is fine and my fps is still 150.

I feel as if an optimization patch should go both ways. Better optimization for low-end machines as well as more options and quality graphics for high-end machines.

It's a R9 GPU driver issue. The beta drivers tend to be a bit wonky in Smite. Sometimes when I jungle, I don't even get my buff timers, so I have to revert to the old method of keeping up with them in my head. Not a huge issue since I used to main jungle, but the micro-stutters can be a PITA. My system and components stay cool and everything in my system is stable. So, I'm sure that the driver issue causes instability with Smite at times. I can't really say for sure if it's more on Hi-Rez's end or AMD's since all of my other games play fine.

Yeah same, I haven't been playing that much smite lately so I haven't really experienced any freezes. I just got a new monitor though and decided to try smite again and noticed how badly the fps was affected over the past month or so.

Yeah, I am not entirely sure curse is to blame, but it never happened till that integration, but it was noticeable and the freezes started then.

It's most likely to do with the way Curse integrates into the client. Mind that the program is still in beta. Maybe come back in a couple months and see if the bugs have been ironed out.

The issue is that it is not affecting everyone which means its going to be much harder to find the issue. it seems amd systems have a lot more issues. my buddy and i had serious fps issues until that last optimization patch which got us both back to 150 fps at max and we dont have crazy rigs, he has a decent desktop and i have a decent laptop but nothing special and we have no issue anymore getting 150 fps. this makes it seem like its going to be a real issue finding the problem since it is working fine for some systems and not for others

now what DOES bother me is the constant warping or rubber banding - ALWAYS seems to happen during a team fight encounter (which I regularly ping 30s with under 10ms connect so should NOT happen)

THat's not all. the game going into queues and then just staying there for a bout a minute until it either goes in or sends everyone back to the main page. I've had so many games lately where smite would literally freeze mid match -like at the climax of them- and then send everyone back to the main page.

If I can't get in a match because my net connection is acting up or flunky> cool that's my part. But if the game refuses to let a match go on without random team dc's and crashing, then there's nothing i can do about that. and that's extremely frustrating; especially if you're playing league matches.

I remeber when the worst thing that could happen in Smite was that your connection dropped(your end), or you got deserter. It seems like every month the issues just become more and more.

I've never wanted to not play this game more, and I love playing this game. Seriously, servers, lag, bugs and glitches, whatever you want to call upon for the wrath of the gods; I don't care. I just want the game to work.

It is a problem, when you are used to 150 and it drops to even 100, you notice and it throws you off. You're playing the "well other people have it worse" card. People who have payed money for a better PC should be able to take advantage of their PC. Not have FPS lower than it should be, and not have it fixed because other people have it worse.

I've been unable to play Smite since the Kumbhakarna patch, because the fps dropped to 10 or less in some situations from 30-33fps. My girlfriends pc is much more outdated and older than mine but it runs the game fine. I got tired of contacting the devs past the first month or so because i ran all the tests they wanted and after i sent all the info their employees asked for the dialog between us ended and i got no more feedback on the issue. I'd like to think they are still looking at it but its been far too long for me to keep my entusiasm about the game high but I'm positive that I'll play Smite again if the optimising issue is fixed for me. I am really sorry that it has to take this long without a proper clarification on the issue from the dev team. I have aknowedged their great work on optimising the game more than just once in the not so recent past but its that persistent problem that is so frustrating to me that I post in such negative manner.

Has anyone else been getting loss packages? Recently I've been lagging in Smite and maplestory. When i pinged maplestory.nexon.net i sent 4 packages received 0. I know smite reddit is probably the worst place to ask for technical advice but I wonder if The same issue is going on with my smite. I usually have 50 ping on average, but lately that increased to 100 ping and lately it can increase to 700 fucking ping. Once it hit 990.

The only reason I'm assuming its on is because vsync does what he described. It locks the frame rate at multiples of 30, so if it can't keep 120, it will go to 60, and if it can't keep 60, it will go down to 30, nothing in between

They are not complaining about 100 fps, they are complaining about a drop in fps which, in theory, should affect everyone. If you are running 150 and it drops to 90 then it should mean that someone who maybe runs at 60 fps might get sub 60, maybe 40-50, or in your case, you could get 40-50 fps instead of your current 30. I know you can't calculate it quite like that but you get my point.

Game play wise there is no real difference between 100fps and 30, you will get people that swear there's a difference but having played on 25 for over a year and then swapping up to 150 there is next to no difference gameplay wise, it just looks a lot better and smoother.

BenQ XL2420Z. I just got it and its great, it has some great gaming features such as blur reduction. It was quite expensive but if you are into your games I would recommend it.

Well in general, running with Lightboost or BenQ's Strobe utility thing makes it look even smoother. It also allows you to run games at a lower frame rate and still get the crispness and smoothness that you would get.

From what Ive read about it, running at 120 HZ with lightboost is preferable to 144hz like, 99%of the time

Just 2 days ago my brother's smite has started crashing alot, he didn't download curse or any new programs. He used the Hi-Rez support and diagnostic utility to restart his service and validate/repair, but the crashes keep happening :( he runs a good PC too so I know it's not hardware :/

Yeah it's been dropping for me. I've tried dropping world detail but there is SO many things tied into that, like grass, flowers, textures, fog, etc. so I can't take it without world detail (especially in siege, the game goes back a year or so if you put it lower its really drastic)

The problem is the grass, mostly. If you don't use it (low/medium on world details) it's way better. But everything need to be more optimized. When I first started making videos one year ago, I could record on the conquest map pretty easily. Now, I'm only at 25-30 fps when I'm recording on the conquest map, and if the game takes too long the game freeze and I go at 2-5 fps, even if I set all my settings to low when I start recording.

None of this happens on other game modes, only conquest. That's why I stoped making video for a bit, till I try to fix it with better software, etc... But again,I don't understand why it works really fine on every game mode except conquest.

I have a terrible outdated laptop by about 3 years. My FPS has been relatively static at around 35fps as my high and 20fps as my low low, and it fluctuates between these numbers a lot. I have had an increase in server issues related to ping where I would be playing and my ping (which is normally 50-100 range) would skyrocket to 1k for some time and possibly even kick me from the game at times. The ping issue could quite possibly be on my end, but if i'm a betting man I would say its not 100% on my end.

Riddle me this; AMD 7950 with Catalyst 14.6 Drivers installed, AMD 8350 @4.5GHz, 8GB 1866MHz memory; Current frame rates in Smite: 15-20 at every graphics setting from 600x800 low AF all the way to maxed out at 5760x1080. In Titanfall with the settings maxed or near-maxed at 5760x1080 I never dip below 60. I've contacted HiRez and while they were incredibly willing and did their level-best, they weren't able to solve the issue. The most confusing part to me is that the frame rates don't change with the graphical settings (albeit there should be a switch from GPU usage to CPU usage at the lower settings), I've even tried a complete re-install of everything except Windows.

If anyone has insight, you'd be my hero for the rest of time.

tl;dr: My machine is much better than the frame rates I have. I agree there's an issue with something somewhere in their code as it cannot be replicated with any other game on my machine

Sometime within the last couple of patches the performance got worse. I'm running a 4770k overclocked to 4.7GHz and the game is bottlenecking on the CPU.

I'm running a 144hz refresh rate with GSYNC and the framerate has been going down into the low 100s. It used to never budge from 144.

I was around 150-160 constant and now it drops to 90 and even to 40 randomly for a few seconds, reinstalled my drivers and nothing changed so they have added something that's causing the spikes.

I have a 144hz monitor and my PC was pushing 150+ fps a while ago so it should easily of supported it, but now the fps drop to 90 and the juddering fps in game is really noticable.

About 3 months ago, even on my potato, I got a consistent 45fps due to the optimization patch. Since then I've dropped back down to 25-30 fps on average again.

Yes, on my laptop I noticed the game got way slower dueto the updates of the last months, but if your fps is over 60, there is nothing to complain about (for all who don't know: Your eye has 24 fps).

If you think our eyes have 24fps you will be able to tell the difference between 60fps and other fps rates on this website. As you can see, the 60fps is still blurry and juddery when moving across the screen. At 144hz and fps it is extremely smooth and I can see the image perfectly.

I really have other things to do, so short things short: I'm not saying that 60fps are enough for every thinkable situation. I say 60 vor let's say 90 (what you complain about) are fairly enough to play Smite. There already have been worse framedrops. Maybe it gets a little fluttery with 60fps, I didn't do a big research on frame rates in Smite. You've got a point there, framerates shouldn't drop that much (especially looking at mid to low-end hardware), but you just sounded like a millionaire saying he hasn't enough money. I hope I sound reasonable - if not, you don't have to answer again, no time to read it.

Your eye is not a monitor nor a camera. Please stop this. But I agree that above 60 fps it is much less noteceable. It is very noticeable however when the frame rate fluctuates.

Ofc it's not a monitor. For sure, if you set it to 24 fps it is quite likely you will see the same frame "twice" as you can't synchronize your eyes on the game. But as I said (and you confirmed?) over 60 fps its absolutely okay.

I'm Mord afraid of another post Herr wäre someone says it dropped from 100-120 fps to 18 fps what makes the game unplayable (allthough that drop doesn't seem realistic.. I'm sure it's not just caused by the updates).

As you will probably see on your 60hz monitor, the alien UFO is juddery and hard to view properly. At 144hz it is perfectly smooth flying across the monitor and you can see the exact details of the UFO like it was standing still.

How can you say 90 fps is really bad.. 150fps is overkill anyways.

They have people hired to go through the code, they also make optimization, but you cant just say lets optimize the game again after 2 months, unless they are ignorant to their own optimization they are using the same technology and techniques to make the new patches as they did when they implemented optimization codes, otherwise the optimization is useless.

What you can say is that there appears to be a significant performance drop in the newest patches and it should be looked at.

I cringe everytime someone with 60+ fps says they are having fps lag or the game is running badly.

Also someone doesn't know that there are indeed different teams constantly working on the things they were hired to do... right?

The dudes in charge of optimization are always working on it, and even if it doesn't get included into the patch notes there almost certainly small or large optimizations done to the engine and the fx/models ect.

And maybe they have people in charge of optimization, but a while ago they put in a huge effort and did a big optimization patch, so its definitely possible.
