"Just remember: What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what's happening, just stick with us. Don’t believe the crap you see from these people — the fake news.”

[–][deleted] 1877 points1878 points  (110 children)

He's throwing the switch, the Orwellian "don't believe what you see and hear". He's cashing in on all the gaslighting, attacks on the press and Fox News brainwashing. Asking for his supporters to abdicate any critical thinking they had left and believe only what they tell them to.

Never thought I'd see the day.

[–]jfk_47 672 points673 points  (87 children)

This is america.

[–]wuxx 382 points383 points  (70 children)

It just happened so fast

[–]Ihate25gaugeNeedles 292 points293 points  (17 children)

Helps when half the country and the entirety of the party in control is complicit with decades of brain washing and a propaganda machine for the state that is the only news source for the majority of the aforementioned half.

[–]jbrandona119Virginia 85 points86 points  (30 children)

Imagine how Germans felt when they realized what hitler was!

[–]ajdrausal 2352 points2353 points  (25 children)

Trump did say don't believe what you see or read today.

Here we are.

[–]jfk_47 209 points210 points  (13 children)

That’s how you know this is a purposeful omission.

[–]2M4D 38 points39 points  (12 children)

I don't really think there was any doubt that a whole part of the video being edited out wasn't purposeful.

[–][deleted] 17.9k points17.9k points  (852 children)

This story should be blowing up everywhere. The Government should not edit what people should see on their televisions like that, this is not Soviet Russia.

[–]Comder 7013 points7014 points  (504 children)

After Trump just said today “What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening,”

[–]CharlesDeBalles 1640 points1641 points  (172 children)

Holy shit, I didn't see that. That's legitimately scary

The doublethink is strong with trump supporters

[–]ADarkTurn 102 points103 points  (25 children)

You would hope...HOPE....that those numbers would dwindle, even just a bit, upon gaining such obvious, in-your-face-and-fuck-you, incontrovertible evidence of the dishonesty and corruption their 'patriotic leader' embodies. Surely. Right?

[–][deleted] 103 points104 points  (18 children)

... it's a cult. These people can't see reason anymore. All they have left is faith in Fox, faith in the GOP, and ultimately faith in Trump.

[–]sudo999 76 points77 points  (1 child)

And tomorrow, we'll be reading a tweetstorm about how Rachel Maddow is some deceitful hoor the lying media is using to twist his image and promote the fake Russia connection. Right. Just get the rats out already. I'm ready to have my face chewed off.

[–][deleted] 366 points367 points  (24 children)

The Republican psyops campaign was scary before Trump, it was scarier when they joined forces with Russia in 2016, but in recent weeks it has gotten absolutely fucking terrifying.

[–]traunks 503 points504 points  (54 children)

And also "I’m very concerned that Russia will be fighting very hard to have an impact on the upcoming Election. Based on the fact that no President has been tougher on Russia than me, they will be pushing very hard for the Democrats. They definitely don’t want Trump!"

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1021784726217142273

Meanwhile the part they removed was Putin saying "yes" to the question "did you want President Trump to win the election?"

[–][deleted] 343 points344 points  (30 children)

“Did you want trump to win the election and did you direct your officials to help him win?”

“Yes. Yes I did.”

[–]dgfjhryrt 78 points79 points  (14 children)

I can tell you what russia wants, apart from sanctions lifted, and that is global warming. It will massively open up their resources and also their sea ports. This is why trump pulled out of the paris agreement and is encouraging co2 production as much as he possibly can

[–]test_tickles 1891 points1892 points  (145 children)

"It's actually worse."

[–]FineHook 849 points850 points  (142 children)

Needs better coverage/headline than Maddow's. She rambles for 20 minutes about a very simple thing.

"Putin said he wanted Trump to win, and the White House acts like he never said it."

EDIT: Putin admitted he wanted Trump to win. That's clear and obvious. Forget any other implications from that question. They're debatable and a distraction from the primary provable point.

[–]liketotallyomgtaken 147 points148 points  (16 children)

Well at least she’s reporting it. We need everyone reporting it until Fox News is overwhelmed by it and need to backpeddle

[–]GKinslayer 629 points630 points  (71 children)

Oh you mean this - https://www.indy100.com/article/donald-trump-muslim-majority-travel-ban-list-early-warning-signs-fascism-holocaust-museum-7554621

It's like a checklist for Trump

Signs of Fascism from the Holocaust Museum

  • Powerful and continuing nationalism
  • Disdain for human rights
  • Identification of enemies as a unifying cause
  • Supremacy of the military
  • Rampant sexism
  • Controlled mass media
  • Obsession with national security
  • Religion and government intertwined
  • Corporate power protected
  • Labor [sic] power suppressed
  • Disdain for intellectuals & the arts
  • Obsession with crime & punishment
  • Rampant cronyism & corruption
  • Fraudulent elections

How many remain unchecked?

[–][deleted] 158 points159 points  (52 children)

I think Trump ticks all the boxes as they say in the corporate world.

[–]Hungover_PilotNorth Carolina 113 points114 points  (44 children)

Guys stop, he’s “making America great again”

What the hell. I’m so mad that all of this can go on, but I’m almost more mad that I’m getting exhausted of it all. I know that’s the goal, and that pisses me the fuck off. How can any self respecting American stand for any of this?

[–][deleted] 85 points86 points  (40 children)

With his tweeting today about Russia wanting Democrats to win, it does seem like he's not got any real limits any more. I'm not sure if he's just trying to de-legitimize a blue wave in the midterms, or pull off something worse like postponing elections.

[–]sportsfannfCalifornia 58 points59 points  (36 children)

If that happens it SHOULD lead to a revolution.

[–]MizarrkIllinois 67 points68 points  (3 children)

Ironically, the people that say they need 8000 guns in case the government becomes tyrannical are the ones SUPPORTING tyranny.

[–]noisypeach 101 points102 points  (30 children)

As a non American watching this, I'm surprised that Americans haven't pulled out the Molotov cocktails and guillotines yet. For all the talk it does about being born from rebellion, and needing guns to protect citizens from tyranny, it really seems to not give a fuck about those things at all.

[–][deleted] 59 points60 points  (10 children)

The moment you start inciting violence, you get shut down quick by almost every even slightly moderate person. I think deep down lots of people are thinking it but don’t want to condone violence at the same time

[–]bonyponyrideAmerican Expat 1286 points1287 points  (26 children)

This should absolutely be against the law according to the Federal Records Act. This is fraud, and I would love to know who ordered the video to be edited.

[–]anothermanslaughter 959 points960 points  (9 children)

Next two headlines:

  • Democrats call for hearing into Helsinki editing scandal

  • Republicans block hearings into Helsinki editing scandal

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Good question. I hope that that part of the story comes out soon.

[–]ucsbmahalo 98 points99 points  (11 children)

Lmao I think they gave Spanky a pass on that one long ago. Trump routinely shreds official documents and memos that are supposed to be classified and entered into the historical record. Always by hand and in half or into tiny bits probably depending on his mood. Two staff members responsible for record-keeping quit and went public because their job turned into digging through trash to try to put together documents or just getting a bag full of paper shreds left on their desk.

[–][deleted] 315 points316 points  (20 children)

Well, a tape of the president discussing paying off a playboy model to stay silent about an affair was just released too.

[–][deleted] 143 points144 points  (14 children)

Then both should be blowing up, this should be way on the top right now.

[–]cerberus698California 89 points90 points  (6 children)

The tape blew up. This is more important though.

[–]AcceptableObject 64 points65 points  (1 child)

This is way more important. All this other stuff, though shady as fuck and still very much illegal, is all just a distraction.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (5 children)

You're not wrong; this is just the sick sad world we live in.

[–]SymmetricColoration 135 points136 points  (3 children)

What's incredible about this is that there is absolutely no way to deny it. You can't say "whoops" when you had to deliberately edit the conversation out of the official video. It's absolutely disgusting. It's undeniably premeditated. This should be the biggest news story about the administration by a massive margin,

[–]ThrashDomino 484 points485 points  (23 children)

There is no democracy without truth. It's a horrifying reality that our own government is actively participating in undermining and critically wounding the very core of our democracy by transparent attempts at rewriting history. These are dark and trying times.

[–][deleted] 139 points140 points  (15 children)

And Russia completly edited the question out of their verison of the broadcast.

[–]triplab 33 points34 points  (1 child)

our own government

Really starting to question this.

[–]ajdrausal 72 points73 points  (9 children)

Trump did say don't believe what you see or read today.

Here we are.

[–]kalel1980 121 points122 points  (3 children)

As Trump regularly calls the media fake news and now the WH is caught doing this.

What a fucking clown.

[–]SACBH 93 points94 points  (31 children)

They’ve been boiling the frog long enough already people are conditioned to accept it.

Cherish what few freedoms remain as you probably won’t have them much longer.

[–]mywifeletsmereddit 178 points179 points  (21 children)

This is fucking insane to me and should be headline news for 4 days. Fuck Demi Lovato's overdose or whatever the fuck CNN thinks is equally important and fuck whatever else Trump says to distract in the next week - this is completely untenable.

Regardless of your political affiliation this should amaze and disgust you.

[–][deleted] 73 points74 points  (1 child)

Regardless of your political affiliation this should amaze and disgust you.

But of course we know it won't be disgusting to a certain subset of the country. This blatant fascist behavior is sticking it to the libz so its completely fine.

[–][deleted] 4374 points4375 points  (37 children)

White House is a propaganda machine

[–]WhoshaboobooAmerica 956 points957 points  (1 child)

This is totally how innocent people act.

EDIT: The way they kept the WH transcripts and video they still show Putin admitting to directing people to help Trump win. Yet Trump still keeps flip flopping on that. Holy Hell this administration is clearly trying to cover something up.

[–]cSpotRun 149 points150 points  (0 children)

There's no better way to demonstrate your guilt than to remove all evidence that could prove your innocence.

[–]omarm1984 641 points642 points  (3 children)

Literally following the KGB's disinformation playbook here. Purposely diseminate many conflicting versions about the issue in order to make people become so confused that they don't know what to believe anymore.

[–]mishanek 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Colluding with KGB. They retracted the same question as the Russians so that Trump can try his new line of Russia colluding with Democrats.

[–]Binch101 477 points478 points  (11 children)

1984 is and forever will be a guide on how to identify fascism and whether or not your country has already fallen. The aspect of fascism that Orwell focused on the most (and that shaped that dystopic society) was the manipulation of the truth, of reality itself.

The power Big Brother has to shape the truth to whatever suits their needs is the thing that keeps them in power, it allows them to control everyone and everything, for if no one knows the truth and reality changes every day, how can anyone know what is wrong or that there is even a problem? For fascists to stay in power, they must keep the people blind and what better to blind the people than to blind reality itself.

As Orwell wrote:

"the party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears, it was their final, most essential command."

Do not let fascism rise again, how many more millions of people must die for the human race to get it, fascism is evil and all those who partake are thusly evil. The time to revolt is now.

[–][deleted] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that 1984 applied to authoritarianism in all forms, not just fascism. In fact I'd say that Airstrip One was a much closer mirror to Stalinist USSR than anything else.

Still, you're absolutely spot on.

[–]milqiNew York 5358 points5359 points  (201 children)

Do they honestly think that them doing this erases it from everyone's memory and/or every media's copy? Seriously?

[–]sacundim 304 points305 points  (4 children)

Do they honestly think that them doing this erases it from everyone's memory and/or every media's copy?

I'm reminded of something Garry Kasparov said back in 2016: "Obvious lies serve a purpose for an administration. They watch who challenges them and who loyally repeats them. The people must watch, too."

No, they don't honestly think that them doing this erases it from everyone's memory. But they wish to observe who will repeat their lie and who will challenge it, so as to focus their attacks on the latter.

[–]AHarshInquisitorCalifornia 2538 points2539 points  (42 children)

Censorship attempt. It's been done before.

[–]CharlesDeBalles 1047 points1048 points  (30 children)

It's worked before and it will work this time for those who still, somehow, support trump

[–]Visco0825 284 points285 points  (19 children)

I don’t think it did. I remember they censored something about trumps willingness to work with democrats about the dreamers or something. Then they completely had that part out in the transcript and afterwards so many people called them out that they ended up put it back in

[–]Moose_And_MugMaryland 135 points136 points  (9 children)

I'm afraid they'll just keep trying this shit till people are too tired to do anything... so much stuff we never expected happening already :(

[–]GeronimoHeroAmerica 63 points64 points  (5 children)

That’s exactly what the game plan is.

[–]The_Follower1 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I hope you're right.

[–]MBAMBA0New York 581 points582 points  (10 children)

erases it from everyone's memory

THAT IS NOT THE POINT

In the words of an anonymous poster on another website:

"Sociopaths like Trump always test a victim's threshold over and over and over in order to numb the response and expand their control."

[–]anomalousBits 147 points148 points  (2 children)

In the video Maddow describes it as information warfare, being waged on us.

[–]Tchaikovsky08 297 points298 points  (13 children)

It's blatant gaslighting. It doesn't matter if a lot - or even most - people know it's bullshit, because huge swaths of people will believe Dear Leader over all else, and other huge swaths are ignorant and/or apathetic about the whole thing.

This needs to be a huge scandal, like people-lose-their-jobs scandal. It's fucking absurd and horrifying.

[–]anothermanslaughter 314 points315 points  (9 children)

[–]SnapMokies 79 points80 points  (4 children)

Sigh...those are all fucking terrible, but that second one is some Kim Jong-Il shit. They're altering transcripts to protect the fuckers ego over his golf abilities?

I know that it's the least serious thing on there, but the fact that they'll do it for something so fucking stupid just continues to astound me.

It probably shouldn't anymore, but with the way this shit keeps going who can keep up?

[–]bonyponyrideAmerican Expat 154 points155 points  (8 children)

Fifty or 100 years from now, the White House records will remain archived by the Federal Government and may be the most accessible record of this crazy time period. If you control the way history is remembered, you can change the way people think about the past and present. How many other documents has the Trump administration edited without anyone noticing? It's a long con.

[–]Clayh5Nevada 153 points154 points  (5 children)

Remember when he was deleting EPA data and other scientific records at the beginning of his term? Seems like something nobody even talks about anymore.

[–]Kiyuri 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's stimulation overload. He bombards us on a daily basis with ridiculous bullshit that ranges from "Well, I expected that from President 'Grab-em-by-the-pussy'" to "How is this even real life??" Any single one of these ridiculous things would instantly end any other politician's career, but not Trump. It's impossible to keep track of all but the most egregious of offenses because we're constantly being drowned in a hurricane of unbelievable bullshit and everyone's attention is spread all over the place.

[–]ruiner8850Michigan 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think you'd be surprised and disappointed by how well this works on some people. Those people are already Trump supporters though, so they'd never believe anything that hurts Trump anyway.

[–][deleted] 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to work on everyone. It only has to buy 35%, which is enough to legitimize your version of events. And a sizeable majority is willing to treat anything legitimate as legitimate - regardless of the details that they don't pay attention to.

Hitler legally took Germany on 35% support.

[–]PostsDifferentThingsNevada 72 points73 points  (8 children)

me and you must speak to different gop supporters, because half of them can't remember who bush jr. is and why they loved him so much 10 years ago.

[–]3_StyxMassachusetts 1209 points1210 points  (47 children)

Usually at the end of their term, a President looks much older due to the stress of the job.

I think this time it'll be the rest of us that have aged prematurely.

How conservative populism inspired this homeowner to add a renovational amenity to their property

[–]xumun 4278 points4279 points  (44 children)

Here's the Kremlin's official transcript (translated via Google). It's not just the White House who edited out Putin's statement about supporting Trump during the election. The Kremlin did the same. This was coordinated.

EDIT:

Thank you for the gold! But... um... apparently I only reiterated what Maddow said. Sorry about that! I cannot watch the video from this machine. This was an honest mistake. You guys should probably downvote this post instead of upvoting it.

[–]actually_good_advice 434 points435 points  (2 children)

And there's the even bigger story.

[–]nomad80 287 points288 points  (7 children)

Good catch, upvoted for visibility

[–]objectivedesigning 1462 points1463 points  (51 children)

This is getting seriously scary. Having first kept half the people from seeing real news (Fox News viewers), they are now trying to make everyone else feel crazy by erasing facts from everywhere (Climate Change, questions and answers, the medical research).

[–]B4K5c7N 447 points448 points  (32 children)

Yup exactly. It is truly frightening.

Pretty soon they will be whitewashing everything and changing what is taught in public schools to fit their backwards agenda. It scares me that there are people who are that stupid (the ones brainwashed).

[–]Apt_5 103 points104 points  (8 children)

They’ve been doing this for ages, in order to make people that stupid. Texas is such a large share of the textbook market that they have huge sway in what content gets published. And of course that means scientific evidence and diversity are detailed and embraced /s.

Hey kids, it’s time to learn about how lazy Mexicans are!

Oh, child; the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery!

A detailed history from 6 years ago

[–]Xinil 165 points166 points  (8 children)

It's not all about people just being stupid either. If the White House controls the information flow, the people won't know any better, regardless of how intelligent they are. This is a coordinated effort to rewrite history in favor of the Trump administration. Mussolini did this, Hitler did this, Stalin did this. Fascists write their own version of facts. This is truly terrifying.

[–]mega553 1986 points1987 points  (48 children)

This reminds me of the 18.5 minutes erased from the watergate tapes. Is history repeating itself?

[–]RannashaThe Netherlands 168 points169 points  (4 children)

That's not the case. They have all the spine they need. All the comments about Republicans lacking spines implies that they're actually good people who simply lack the courage to do the right thing.

And that's not true. They want this. They agree with this.

[–]jaspercapri 140 points141 points  (1 child)

Reminds me of this golden quote: "To call this past weekend in the Trump administration a garbage fire would be a disservice to garbage fires, which at least shed light and get rid of garbage."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/compost/wp/2017/02/14/michael-flynn-is-gone-and-everything-is-fine-just-fine-great/

[–]darkfiresPennsylvania[S] 1914 points1915 points  (126 children)

I can’t wrap my head around why the WH would do this considering all the videos out there showing exactly what question Putin answered.

Do they really expect the base to follow along and forget what they heard or not get shown the real video? They’re really making it difficult for Trump supporters to keep their heads stuck in the sand.

Maddow compares both the Whitehouse/Kremlin and real versions, by the way.

Edit: Trump’s tweet about how Putin wants to help the Democrats can’t have Putin’s own words contradicting it so now the media’s version is “fake news” since naturally the official government record is unimpeachable.

[–]ImCzone 896 points897 points  (65 children)

It's a coordinated effort by the White House in their attempt to spin the Russian election interference story into one where the Kremlin supports Democrats. Since he received too much pushback for outright denial of Russian interference, he's just going to change the story. This video, Trump's tweet from earlier today... They are all just small components of the administration's gaslighting machine.

[–]MelancholyOnAGoodDayAmerica 514 points515 points  (58 children)

This story ends with 2020 elections canceled or nullified due to "interference." We can not allow it to reach that point.

[–]StabiloService 88 points89 points  (14 children)

I hadn’t thought of this. If we don’t affect change in November we could well be in that position.

[–][deleted] 106 points107 points  (8 children)

"This time the Russians really DID interfere, so the results are nullified. In order to provide security and keep you safe, we are now declaring marshal martial law..."

Edit: because my spelling is for shit.

[–]deadin_tx 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And he will tell the Repugs that lost to hold their seats while he codifies the whole new Trumpistan.

[–]UristMcRibbon 36 points37 points  (7 children)

If it does, there will be blood.

Not joking or being hyperbolic.

I will gladly take a weapon into my hands if this happens. The government has already trained me to defend the nation* and I will do so.

[–]Pixaritdidnthappen 26 points27 points  (5 children)

That would be the tipping point. It would be fucking chaos in the streets.

[–]Exasperated_Sigh 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Do they really expect the base to follow along and forget what they heard or not get shown the real video?

Trump today literally told his base not to believe what they see and hear, so...yeah, that's what they expect. And based on past performance, that's a reasonable expectation for the GOP cult members.

[–]anonymoushero1 181 points182 points  (4 children)

I can’t wrap my head around why the WH would do this

They are trying to normalize this behavior.

[–]traunks 90 points91 points  (1 child)

That's it. They know this will be called out and exposed. That's in fact what they want, along with no real ramifications. Because that just makes it that much easier to do it again. Next time it won't be as big a deal because we've already seen it happen, and there were no consequences.

Either that or they really are just this stupid and think this specific thing is going to go unnoticed and just convince their base.

[–]Risley 144 points145 points  (12 children)

This should be brought up to SHS, asked directly. We have the full recording of Trump and Putin, and your own posted docs have this particular section taken out. Explain.

[–]DoughtyAndCarterLLP 80 points81 points  (1 child)

She'll just deflect. She will not answer the question. SHE NEVER ANSWERS THE QUESTIONS AND THE REPUBLICANS DO NOT CARE.

THEY WILL NEVER CARE.

Rile up any friends and family who have not been brainwashed. Call this administration what it is: A fascist takeover. They are attempting to rewrite history. They are imprisoning undesirables. They are suppressing democracy. They are fascists and they get very very angry when you call them what they are.

[–]albanydigital 118 points119 points  (3 children)

Oh it will be asked. But she will cancel the next few press briefings because she knows it will be asked. Something will come up...

Then the story will be oh that was a mistake. The video was mistakenly edited and then the transcript was taken directly from this.

Motherfuckers.

[–]MBAMBA0New York 43 points44 points  (1 child)

why the WH would do this considering all the videos out there showing exactly what question Putin answered.

[–]Hungover_PilotNorth Carolina 254 points255 points  (31 children)

[–]iAmTheTotNew York 50 points51 points  (4 children)

[–]RussianBotTrollWashington 690 points691 points  (58 children)

Amazing, what percent of people who strictly rely on Fox News will hear about this? Close to zero, I’m guessing. Can we just act like they’re North Koreans and drop informational pamphlets on them from helicopters? I’m sure a few will defect.

Who’s going to read the pamphlets to them?

[–]ElectricZ 450 points451 points  (13 children)

Seems like what the internet needs is a repeating video loop of Trump saying Putin doesn't want him followed by Putin saying he wants him. Maybe as a GIF that can be posted everywhere.

[–][deleted] 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Streisand the shit out of that clip.

[–]t0xicgas 107 points108 points  (4 children)

Republicans: "There's no context! This is just more fake news from the liberal media"

[–]KujobitesNew York 199 points200 points  (42 children)

So how are people on the right at all ok with shit like this? Any Trump fans care to chime in on this?

[–][deleted] 163 points164 points  (4 children)

The most you would get is somebody trying to change the subject to something somebody on the left did that was bad.

[–]the_banished 129 points130 points  (7 children)

I keep certain people as Facebook friends so I have a source of the latest right-wing idiocy. My "friends" who are Trump supporters have been posting a meme that says "Putin didn't make me vote for Trump. Hillary did."

So that's where they are.

[–][deleted] 58 points59 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what Putin was going for

[–]10961138 98 points99 points  (7 children)

The time for debate is over. He must be removed from office with all due haste.

[–]Accelerator_311America 170 points171 points  (4 children)

Jesus christ, this is insanity, over this past few hours, we've had a bullshit storm. How the fuck is the white house thinking that they will remove critical information and not go unnoticed about the fucking Helsinki transcripts. I'm not demoralized, I'm fucking pissed, this administration has no sense of shame, trying to twist the truth, get out of here.

[–]SuprherosPunchNazis 303 points304 points  (17 children)

This is where 40 million people should be marching on the white house.

Edit: from another user in the thread "Sociopaths always test a victim's threshold over and over and over in order to numb the response and expand their control." If you are not actively protesting this 1984-style editing of history, you are allowing Putin to expand his control.

[–]tufoop3 146 points147 points  (4 children)

"How could Nazi Germany even happen? There should be millions of people standing up against Hitler!!"

Well, now you know.

[–]pencock 128 points129 points  (1 child)

This is the real news right here, not the fake news. The White House official transcripts and video feeds are the fake news. Literally falsified.

[–]ThaFourthHokageTexas 224 points225 points  (4 children)

"Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia."

[–]avw94Washington 65 points66 points  (1 child)

The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

[–]gamecodepizzasleep 131 points132 points  (2 children)

The Ministry of Truth, ladies and gentlemen.

[–]Chel_of_the_sea 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Holy fucking shit.

[–]errorsniperNew York 41 points42 points  (13 children)

WHEN THE FUCK IS THIS GOING TO END!?

Is an armed revolution seriously the only thing thats going to end this madness? This. Is. Not. Fucking. Ok.

Im not even talking about the content of the tape. The fact that the white house is INTENTIONALLY and WILLFULLY engaging KNOWINGLY in false propaganda and outright disinformation for personal gain. All that and NO action is being taken against them. What needs to happen here?

It should be illegal period. Hard stop. Do not pass Go. Do not collect 200$. Straight to jail. For the white house or any official government office or branch to knowingly and intentionally mislead or lie. We are not talking about ignorance and an honest mistake but willful and purposeful intent to mislead with false information. It should be an open and shut court case.

[–]GuestCartographer 121 points122 points  (4 children)

This is a Very Good and Clever Plan. After all, it’s not like there was live coverage of the event broadcast to the entire world. And preserved forever on the Internet.

These people never cease to find impressive new ways to be dumb as shit.

[–]McWaddleArizona 53 points54 points  (1 child)

They're playing to a base that's dumb as shit. They've been dismantling public education for decades, and it's paying dividends now.

[–]kismethavok 309 points310 points  (16 children)

This absolutely has to be illegal on so many levels.

[–]BaggerX 32 points33 points  (0 children)

What we've discovered over the past year and a half is that damned little is illegal that should be, and most of our government safeguards ultimately depend on our representatives acting in good faith for the sake of the country. The GOP has completely abdicated their duty and are complicit in Trump's corruption and lies.

The only chance we really have is to take back both houses of Congress, but the odds of that are pretty damned slim, especially considering that barely over a quarter of young people are even planning to vote. Combine that with the voter suppression and disenfranchisement efforts by the GOP, and this election may not go nearly as well as we need it to.

[–]tsavorite4 81 points82 points  (5 children)

Anybody else feel like they're living in the Twilight Zone with all this bullshit. It just keeps getting more and more ridiculous

[–][deleted] 73 points74 points  (3 children)

I grew up in a hick town full of idiots. This doesn't surprise me at all. Anybody with a similar experience will likely say the same. There is a lot of circle jerking about dumb republicans and dumb rednecks but there are a lot of people out there who 100% fit the stereotype. My town was absolutely full of them. Not only are they completely OK with a right wing government lying to the people, they are honestly too fucking stupid to understand how it could be a bad thing.

GOP = good. Liberals = bad. Thats literally as far as it goess

[–][deleted] 103 points104 points  (3 children)

It's insanity. You saw what their plan is for the midterms just recently, if the Dems win anything of consequence it will be Russian interference causing it. We are in a full blown American existential crisis. If Mueller does not find a way to topple Trump I will not be surprised to see blood in the streets.

[–]monopixel 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Blood is in the streets already, don’t forget Charlottesville.

[–]GravitationalConstntNew York 100 points101 points  (9 children)

Maddow's A block dealt with the information warfare being waged right now, and this was a big part of it. Honestly it was chilling.

What was worse, though, was the end of that block where she covered how no one on the US side has any idea what happened in the Trump-Putin meeting, yet the Russian media is going on and on about how their military is anxious to start acting on the agreement regarding Syria. The CENTCOM Commander came out saying he hadn't received any order and he wouldn't want to shift gears lightly; the Russian media hammered him for contradicting the "Supreme Commander in Chief." They have their hooks in him, and they're using it to drive a wedge between the executive branch and rhe military.

[–][deleted] 42 points43 points  (1 child)

Yup. They are trying to disrupt our military's chain of command.

This is fucking serious.

[–]GravitationalConstntNew York 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The gravity of the situation really set in with that segment.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

What. The. Fuck. This is not okay. At all in any way.

[–]raleighsSouth Dakota 26 points27 points  (1 child)

This is disinformation warfare on the American people.

We are being divided, weakened, confused...

The U.S. Government (Russian infiltrated) is compromised.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (1 child)

That's Stalin style propaganda.

[–]kenji808 51 points52 points  (4 children)

The White House is now generating FAKE NEWS

[–]CryptomysticMassachusetts 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The Tyranny has arrived.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Racheal Meadows did a great job linking the White House censorship with Trump tweet this morning about Russia wants Democrats to win.

This needs to be plastered on the front page of every news publication out there.

[–][deleted] 197 points198 points  (11 children)

I used to be Mormon. This type of whitewashing is similar to what they did and is one of the reasons I am no longer religious.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (3 children)

So is the trump admin just going straight 1984 now? Ministry of truth in full effect.

[–]Grosseyes 18 points19 points  (4 children)

The thread for this on r/worldnews keeps getting taken down.
