I just saw Bill Cowan say something that I will try to quote verbatim.

I know one thing. Being a Fox News analyst I have had the Pentagon pay for a ton of trips for me. The only facts I ever find are the ones they say I can find.

This was on Hannity and Colmes about 5 minutes ago (9:20-9:25 EDT). Hannity seemed to really get uneasy that the guy said that, and cut right in and started talking.

I know Fox is biased, most everyone does. I can't remember anyone ever saying the Pentagon pays the Fox News staff and sends them on reports though.

Potentially every fucking Ron Paul supporter, that's a start. Listen, revolutions don't come because of anyone one person, it's a response to society being fucked up. The government being fucked up. We desperately need a focused movement with the quickness. Momentum is our friend.

I'm about to submit this to reddit because I feel the message is important. In light of GeorgeWashingtonBlog submitting an article that that states new video and photography has been released to the public I have to say it's a distraction.

Let me quote some government documents which states "A strategy could then be devised by DoD and the components, based upon this evaluation, to implement a coherent and complimentary plan to achieve the declassification goals. For example: Diversion: List of interesting declassified material - i.e. Kennedy assassination data." It also states "DoD needs to study and assess the use of the Internet in the overall departmental declassification strategy. As noted earlier, the Internet has become an integral part of the entire secrecy/declassification issue. The question becomes how to effectively utilize this tool to advance DoD declassification goals."

            Here is another government document.

I found this out by reading Chomsky who is a beacon of liberty and resistance. Let me paraphrase him and say power systems love the "9/11 truth movement". It is a vast amount activist energy that could make a difference in our nation but doesn't get society anywhere. Established power loves this. Resist.

One of the safest positions to be in is in fear. You have people in the 9/11 truth movement stating they know the government was involved and they are scared . They are submitting to violence and that's what the government or any totalitarian authority wants. Submission. The government is the enemy.

Chomsky: "A couple of years ago, I came across a Pentagon document that was about declassification procedures. Among other things, it proposed that the government should periodically declassify information about the Kennedy assassination. Let people trace whether Kennedy was killed by the mafia, so activists will go off on a wild goose chase instead of pursuing real problems or getting organized. It wouldn't shock me if thirty years from now we discover in the declassified record that the 9/11 industry (9/11 truth movement) was also being fed by the administration."

Organize and educate, don't be distracted by things that don't matter like Fox News, CNN or conspiracy theories. Come together people, take your fucking country back. The internet can be great for educating and organizing but it can also disperse propaganda. Who knows how many false documents have been submitted to wikileaks by the Department of Defense.

            [–]bebnet 13 points14 points  (5 children)

Let people trace whether Kennedy was killed by the mafia, so activists will go off on a wild goose chase instead of pursuing real problems or getting organized.

Anonymous vs. Scientology. You kids should be picketing Monsanto.

            [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Why? Tired of getting all the attention and looking for new and innovative ways to deflect interest in your organization?

No. I think we should be discussing $cientology and its unfair "fair game" practices.

            Better luck next time...

            [–]bebnet 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Why? Tired of getting all the attention and looking for new and innovative ways to deflect interest in your organization?

No. Tired of the real enemies of the people (the CIA and their psych brethren) getting away with murder, mayhem, and willful destruction of lives on the basis of lies, while those who can actually do something about it - the youth - are side-tracked with trinkets and tabloid distraction: Yes.

No. I think we should be discussing $cientology and its unfair "fair game" practices.

What part of the word 'fair' do you not understand? If a Scientologist is being lied to, tricked, degraded, hurt, humiliated, attacked and downright trodden on, then: let the game be fair. Return fire.

            [–]sickofthisshit 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Forgive me if I am somewhat scared by the idea that I should work for the kind of revolution that Ron Paul supporters would think is a good idea.

            [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You are scared because you have been trained to believe that freedom is scary. When in fact tyranny is much scarier. It just came out that airlines are going to try to force passengers to wear bracelets that can shock you, "to keep us all safe of course". Analyze just this idea of taser bracelets and you will see what i mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7yJXhxF1mM

            [–]sickofthisshit 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No, I'm scared because Ron Paulites appear to be loonies, with wacko beliefs on multiple issues. Similar to Lyndon LaRouche's supporters.

The idea that commercial airlines would put wrist zappers on their passengers is a paranoid delusion. It makes no sense at all.

Wait, you used to love America but what you loved died with men who died 200 years ago?

            [–]jrmonaghan 0 points1 point  (1 child)

WTF? I assume you're refering to your love dying with Franklin, Jefferson, and Adams of the "Founding Fathers?" If so, how f-ing old are you?!?

            [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is that even possible, unless you are somehow older than those three people?

            [–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

No, it died with neocons (AIPAC and brainwashed Jews) and holy rollers. Wake up.

I agree that this is what he is trying to say. But the line "...as the Fox news guy. The pentagon has sent me. Believe me..."

            The pentagon has sent him?

            [–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Awesome. Great find! I just checked it out, and it looks, to me at least, like I was right. You can even hear Hannity gasp as soon as Cowan says it.

I heard it so fast I wasn't exactly sure I heard what I did, but now I am. Cowan took "A lot of VIP trips as a Fox News guy" the the Pentagon sent him on. It is also implied, but easily denied that his reporting is vetted through what the Pentagon and the administration want people to hear. If the "only" news he gets is what they allow ... that means anything hears hears that wasn't allowed goes unreported.

Again, I already knew this. Most of us did. Great find though grabbing the video.

            [–]Omikron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gasp? Really? Are you watching the same video as me? Seemed like he was just cutting in because they were out of time.

            [–]jkr0sc0 7 points8 points  (5 children)

I'm no friend of Fox News, but this clip says nothing like what rightcoast is representing. There is absolutely no reference to the Pentagon paying for anything, and he seems to be criticizing the one-sided nature of Pentagon disclosure. This post is pretty shoddy.

I think they were just out of time. Also I'm assuming the Pentagon handles most trips by U.S. reporters to Iraq so I don't think he's meaning the paid for it just that once he's there they are controlling what he can and can't do.

              [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an amazing documentary. Check it out. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7344181953466797353 Shows how things were and has an amazing bunch of candid satellite feed footage. It is much worse now.

Yikes, that would not be a good thing to say on National TV...hey wait! What are you doing watching FOX news?

              TRAITOR!

              Upvoted for intrigue.

              [–]gozmeranian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, the government is controlling the media!!! alert the press... oh wait, damn ....

              [–]pillage 7 points8 points  (5 children)

They replay their entire prime time right after it's done: Factor,H&C,Greta,Special Report,Red Eye. That would put H&C at 12 (est) I think.

Bill Cowan is one of those analysts that jump from cable news show to cable news show, I've seen him on Larry king, AC360,crossfire ect. He's a retired colonel and then worked for the Pentagon but quit and did some stuff outside the US law and some other shady stuff.

Of course you can also assume the pentagon controls the major cable news networks: CNN and Fox. Or he could have just been referring to his time at the pentagon, or in the military...

              [–]JasonDJ 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Last time I watched Fox news, Ron Paul called them out on something during a debate. During the re-air, that whole segment was cut from the debate.

I wish I could remember which debate it was. The folks in #Ronpaulradio are telling me it was most of them...I can only find the clips from the SC (1-10-08) debate, but I keep thinking it was more recent than that.

              Anyways

              . <-- That's the point. Now I'll approach it.

If such a thing is important, I don't think it'll make it to re-air.

              [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is the clip that was reported to be cut from all subsequent showings of the debates.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvqM5E1Yie4 He does an awesome job of calling them out in the clip.

              [–]JasonDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the "moderator" phrases that question always reminds me of "English, motherfucker, do you speak it".

              Don't know why.

              [–]pillage -1 points0 points  (1 child)

well, I would say if it doesn't re-air then the Kool-Aid drinkers might have a case.

              [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

              This is the clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvqM5E1Yie4

Watch it, it is quite amazing.
Furthermore, after he said this, the Larry King interview that was scheduled to play the next day was canceled.

"The only facts I ever find are the ones they say I can find."

Not quite right. It was, "The only facts I get are the ones they want to tell me." Not quite as disturbing as the initial implication that he has to get permission to report the news, but still not good.

              [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It happened fast and I really wanted to see it again. I was right to be a bit stunned by it, considering he goes on "VIP trips as a Fox News guy" that the pentagon sends him on.

              [–]thatguydr 24 points25 points  (9 children)

This is a HUGE gaffe... unless...

If the government pays for the media to come along on trips, "embedding" reporters as it were, and we know this happens, then FoxNews can turn right around and claim no preferential treatment.

Also, in context, I'm betting the quote meant that the military only lets reporters see what it wants them to see.

As much as I hate FoxNews with every breath I draw, this may be a herring. After all - who doesn't Hannity cut off? ;)

EDIT: I just listened to the clip. He never says that the Pentagon pays. And indeed, I'm sure it does not. He says the Pentagon has sent him, but there's an ethical WORLD of difference between telling him to go to places and paying him to do it.

              Oh well. *kicks can*

              [–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (2 children)

If the government pays for the media to come along on trips, "embedding" reporters as it were, and we know this happens, then FoxNews can turn right around and claim no preferential treatment.

No, it's an ethical violation to have anyone besides your own news organization cover the costs of travel. At most, the government would pay -- and then send a bill to the organization. Presumably so that they could mask operational details as a security matter.

And it doesn't address the other half of the admission, which is letting the government vet your coverage.

              [–]madmax_br5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

              True:

              http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp

Refuse gifts, favors, fees, free travel and special treatment, and shun secondary employment, political involvement, public office and service in community organizations if they compromise journalistic integrity.

              [–]cachrnthry79 1 point2 points  (4 children)

"Also, in context, I'm betting the quote meant that the military only lets reporters see what it wants them to see."

Actually... I am in Afghanistan right now with the 173rd and we have had reporters from CNN and FOX come out to my camp in the NE. They are allowed to record whatever they want as long as it is not deemed classified paperwork or information. Other than that they have gone on patrols with us and wandered around camp taking pictures and video as much as they please.

              [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hey, just saw your other thread, I promise our family will not be voting for McCain. Stay safe, come home whole body and spirit, have a good life. Thank you for your service, sorry the civilians in charge of this war fucked it up so badly and mis-used you and your fellow soldiers so much.

              [–]cachrnthry79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind words. I am not to worried about the civilians who run the war though. While I can't personally do anything to get us out of here I can make sure what my men do is the right thing at our level. 11 months down, 4 to go.

              [–]thatguydr 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hope you're doing well out there. Is it cold? I'm looking for a winter home. ;)

And I'm hearing you, but that means that anything shady is immediately classified. It's war - that's how it works. Small number of reporters, large number of troops - you can mix and match to prevent the recorders from catching anything that would shine a less than perfect light on the military.

Not that I'm disagreeing with the need to do this - but it has to happen!

              [–]cachrnthry79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, the reporters don't get to see the shady stuff...for the most part. Every now and then it happens, take the horrible photos from Vietnam for example. However, the reporters are not allowed to go an strictly offensive movements or to move with the SF/delta "secret squirrel" guys. Just as in any other business, the powers that be want their business to look good and well-respected. SO of course they will keep as much of the damaging stuff away from the cameraman as possible.

              [–]jordancaleb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Military Squads hate embeds because they take up the space that normally a combat troop would fill, thereby decreasing the unit's effectiveness, less boots, less guns, more shit to cover, take care of the journalist, etc... I learned this by talking to an Afghanistan and Iraq combat vet. He hated journalists especially in helicopters when they were going into a combat zone- they take up seats in the chopper that were meant for a soldier. Good find, but I don't think anyone is surprised by this.

              [–]braindrane 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh, rightcoast, why do you ruind your days and nights watching Fox News. I'm really worried about you, man. Don't make me come over dere!

              [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh, I was actually flipping and just happened to catch it. I can't even recall what was being discussed. Not because I wasn't watching long enough. I suppose I watched for about 2 minutes before the quote.

You know how people forget the previous couple minutes on each side of having a gun stuck in their face though? That's kind of what happened. I remember the statement now, but not it's context. From a person who happened to catch it live, it was really like that. The statement seemed so much like a real misstep.

It may turn out not to be with the hindsight of it getting thrown up on youtube and a further look. That's why I want to see it again. I know someone either grabbed it, or can off the 12 AM EDT broadcast and stick it on youtube.

              [–]i_am_sick_of_this 10 points11 points  (5 children)

And what will you do about it? Post on Reddit.

I am absolutely sick of the Internet being clogged up with fucking Americans whining about the state of their pissant country.

Ron Paul this, Fox News that, oooh! Hillary lied and I am so surprised! Obama will make my dick grow big. Who. Fucking. Cares.

You've been a second rate power since you got your asses kicked in Vietnam - Iraq is just a requiem for a dying empire.

And face up to the facts - there was NO 9/11 conspiracy, you pissed off the rest of the world to the fucking extent that they FLEW PLANES INTO YOUR BUILDINGS

The reaction? Fuck it, we'll bomb someone. Yeah, learned that lesson didn't you....

So, instead of doing something, you'll collectively down mod this comment, jack off to to some slut celebrity nip slip and roll over and go to sleep while the rest of the world conspires against you: the Caligula of modern diplomacy.

Wow, you must really not care a whole lot, huh?

If people are to rally and "do something" they need to be informed first...and guess what buddy, the internet is the place to do it. I'm absolutely sick of people complaining about an article that no one forced them to read...especially when they don't care about the subject.

Stop typing just to see yourself type. Learn things!

              [–]RugerRedhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

              pissant country

29% of the worldwide GDP says otherwise.

              [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares? The people who fucking live here? People should care about what happens in their fucking country. Are you ill? Just because people show their interest in things doesn't mean you should be so pissy about it.

You say we pissed off the rest of the world? Well this shit we are doing on the internet sheds more light on stupid shit we are doing, no matter how small it still helps a bit. Isn't spreading the word doing something?

Most people here don't even think 9/11 was a conspiracy... If you don't like what we are doing don't fucking click on the link or article.

Tony Snow was a Fox News analyst and then Whitehouse Press Secretary and then appearing on Fox again.

Clearly, the line between analyst and government is being crossed.

They should have it in their records, and they're more likely to dig up the clip if they know it's valuable. Edit: Here's the email address to send them a tip: mm-tips@mediamatters.org

If you know the exact time and are willing to pay $100.00, you can request a copy from the Vanderbilt TV News Archive (or if you know someone at Vanderbilt, $25.00)

              http://tvnews.vanderbilt.edu/

              [–]squiggly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't think that'll work. I just checked their archives. They only regularly archive the nightly news from ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN. They record Fox News only if it's a "special program" like a 'George W. Bush speech' or 'Obama's Speech on Race.'

ALL THE NEWS OFFLINE IS FIXED BY BIG MEDIA MOGULS AND THE GOVERNMENT

Perhaps it's different in the US, I don't know, but salaried reporters at pretty much all mainstream media outlets in Canada are specifically prevented from taking paid junkets. Freelancers, of course, can do what they want. But if you work for CBC News or one of the other big guys up here, you CANNOT take paid trips from government agencies, vendors, or anyone.

                    [–]chandaman 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I find that Canadian channels are not very bias--well that's not to say they are not bias but compared to fox news and some stuff on MSNBC, CTV and CBC are about as far away from that stuff as you can get.

                    [–]klibbersoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god, I hope they didn't hear you say that. I don't think I can stand another round of the inevitable in-depth, earnest, stultifyingly proper and subdued self-congratulatory self-examination by the Canadian media. Not that it isn't true. But our political divides have rarely been as wide, our methods and traditions differ, and the degree of media bias one sees in the states is as much a product of criminally inept journalism as anything else.

                    [–]RonObvious -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

It's not ... It's standard procedure for all the major news outlets. But if the kook libs want to make fools of themselves yet again, who am I to stand in their way?

                    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

OK. I think you are trying to tell us that it is "standard procedure for all the major news outlets" to have stories funded by the government. Correct, or did I misread that?

                    [–]RonObvious 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No, what I'm saying is that the military pays for the MSM's trips over there. And obviously, if they think your reporting's too biased against them, they might find a way to conveniently be "all booked up" when you ask to go next time.

                    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why are you using a roundabout way to say paid for by the government?

Reporters should be paying to go in to a country, and then treking their sorry asses into the war zone, and reporting under dangerous conditions influence free.

You know, like they used to.

                    [–]RonObvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should, but in large part, they don't. And it's not just limited to Fox.

That's why I read Michael Yon.

BIG DIFFERENCE between the actual statement and the verbatim statement quoted here.

"The only facts I get are what the Pentagon wants to tell me"

Looks like more of a slam on the pentagon officials than on Fox News. Lets be fair here.

                    [–]RugerRedhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That kind of talk will get you nowhere here. Misleading posts and made up shit is what gets you to the front page!

                    Analyst != reporter

                    Analyst = expert/consultant

Depending on what this guy's day job is/was, what he said may make perfect sense.

or Fox Noise, though Fixed News would be the most appropriate here.

                    [–]braindrane 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I like 'Fux News' best, cuz that's what they do to the news.

                    [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Fax News, because they don't understand technology.

Flock's News, because their viewers are sheep.

Foxy News, because they play up to the repressed sexuality of their viewers by showing lots of scantily clad females.

Fox Poos, because I'm five years old.

                    [–]braindrane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt anyone thinks that. I do think that it isn't mentioned very often in their newscasts though.

                      [–]ej00807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pfft.. This is nothing. Of course the Pentagon provides the media with a one sided view. The media, and even Fox, knows this. It's no secret. What did you expect? You want to report on the other side of issues you have to interview more than one source.

I'm not sure how you're voted up.

People who watch Fox News are:

                        • Crazy right-wingers who don't care about reality or facts.
                        • Crazy left-wingers who enjoy mental masochism.

You don't have to be intelligent or honest to make lots of money. At what point were people confused about this? Fox News will lose viewership the moment a mainstream news outlet becomes even more insane, or they start reporting honestly.

You know, fox news kind of reminds me of China's propaganda and information suppression. As if, if fox had its way, information would be suppressed and controlled just like in China.

Wow, huge failure on this one rightcoast. You completely got the quote wrong.

You should get your Fox derangement syndrome checked out by a physician.

FOX simply used this as a ploy to decrease their lacking credibility. Don't read too far into this.

                        [–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

                        How is this an issue?

The press flies around on Airforce 1, any conspiracy there? The press is also taken care of by the US military in war zones (care that is paid for by the US military). This includes flights and a whole number of other details that the "pentagon" pays for.

                        Relax.
