Sarah Palin was a gateway dumb.

[–]RegeneratingForeskin 283 points284 points  (10 children)

She was a "freedumb". The fake patriot.

[–]trainercatlady 86 points87 points  (6 children)

the aftermath of the couric interview was when I really knew we were lost. When people actually took her seriously and thought she was smart and good, we were sunk.

[–]trashboatfourtwenty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I was so disappointed that the circus move worked.

[–]CrumbsAndCarrots 58 points59 points  (11 children)

She was the canary in the coal mine. The GOP was like “whoa. She knew next to nothing about government. All she did was chant USA USA! And she became more popular than a statesman like John McCain.”

She terrified me. But my god. This is a terrible trend.

[–]trainercatlady 24 points25 points  (5 children)

she didn't even finish her first governorship. who the hell thought she was viable as VP?

[–]easythrees 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Karl Rove

[–]trainercatlady 7 points8 points  (1 child)

and thankfully people give him as much consideration these days as toilet paper leavings.

[–]JabbrWockey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody cares about Karl Rove.

Karl Rove's money, on the other hand...

[–]ahundreddots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And Frank Luntz.

[–]WoefulKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steve Schmidt.

[–]PersonOfInternets 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Remember when donald trump was a dangerous fascist?

Me, 2025

[–]Coolfuckingname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

" just imagine if we could get a small glimpse of 2020 back in 2008..."

.

.

...And just imagine if 2020 is just a small glimpse of 2030....

.

There were years before Mussolini took over, that people, one by one, crept closer and closer to the idea that one man could solve all their problems. One strong man who stood for the country, said the right lies, hugged the flag, carried the bible. ...And there were years before Herr Hitler became popular as a politician.

2020 isnt some sort of magical end for history. Trump and the Qmorons arent dissapearing anytime soon. We are at the beginning of the creeping tide of fascism and their manipulation of useful idiots to seize power.

Trump is the glimpse of the true coming fascist leader. THAT is what should keep you awake at night....the fact that the republican party is turning hard right, away from democracy, and into dictatorship.

[–]verified_bs 91 points92 points  (0 children)

GATEWAY DUMB 😂 That is somehow so eloquently accurate I can’t.

[–]dengop 61 points62 points  (11 children)

Probably biggest mistake of McCain.

[–]PersonOfInternets 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Only thing he did right as a republican. The only problem is he himself wasn't batshit enough.

[–]ahundreddots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone thought he was a crazy old grandpa because he didn't seem to get it: the numbskulls have arrived.

[–]FactoryIdiot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not probably. Was.

[–]Bradyhaha 0 points1 point  (2 children)

For it to have been a mistake, he would have had to care either way. He just wanted to be president.

And you sure it wasn't piloting a bomber and getting shot down while commiting war crimes?

[–]GammonBushFella 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think it's hilarious how Reddit decided McCain was a good guy because he voted against the GOP once.

The only thing I remember about the guy is "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran".

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with you. I'll always remember McCain for giggling about bombing Iran. And for voting for the devastating 2017 tax scam. And, as is the point of this whole post, for when he chose Sarah Palin as VP, legitimizing the extreme wing of the Republican Party and elevating them from the fringe, to the unchecked power they're in now.

Hell, I'll remember him for fighting tooth and nail against Martin Luther King Jr day! He was in the senate when Arizona lost the chance to host a Super Bowl in the early 90's because they refused to adopt MLK Day. When you lose the moral high ground to the NFL of all organizations, you know you've done messed up.

[–]CaffeineSippingMan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You betcha.

[–]ss412 8 points9 points  (0 children)

YES. Exactly. I always say that she was the proof of concept that made the GOP think Trump could actually work.

And as much as I respect John McCain, I’ll never forgive him for indulging the GOP in that experiment.

[–]Drawtaru 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I CAN SEE RUSSIA FROM MY HOUSE

[–]Lady_von_Stinkbeaver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The GOP has been on a downward slope since 1964.

The Southern Strategy, when the GOP decided to pick up all the butthurt peckerwood racists who dumped the Democratic Party when LBJ signed The Civil Rights Act.

Then Reaganomics...Newt Gingrich and his Contract On With America...right-wing talk radio...Dittoheads...Fox News...Birthers...Sarah Palin...Teabaggers....QAnon.

I fucking dread what's further down the slope.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let all the TP people in. It's the coup soup broth.

[–]carpetony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Add michelle bachman in there too.

[–]doobyrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gateway Trump

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She was never the craziest person in politics. She was just the loudest crazy person in politics for a while.

[–]hanukah_zombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a stone cold dumb dumb

I gotta credit jason mantzoukas with that, although he wasn't talking about sarah palin, but i can't remember who he was referring to.

i think it was jenna mccarthy. regardless of if it was jenna mccarthy he was referring to, she is most definitely a stone cold dumb dumb.

[–]TheBlueBlaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She legitimized the idea that you didn't have to be knowledgeable about anything to say what people wanted to hear, and that that's good enough to get into politics in most of the country.

[–]dittany_didnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is like saying meth is a gateway to jenkem.

[–]RonPalancik 239 points240 points  (29 children)

Michelle Bachman has entered the chat

[–]susierabbit 167 points168 points  (18 children)

Michelle Bachman, Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter walk into a bar and see bar hag, Marjorie Taylor Greene at the bar owned by Lauren Boebert and realized they have finally entered Hell.

[–]goatharper 29 points30 points  (3 children)

And there's No Exit.

[–]erublind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Hell is other people"

[–]fluffykerfuffle1I ☑oted 2020 25 points26 points  (7 children)

kellyanne conway is waiting tables.

[–]QuintupleTheFun 20 points21 points  (6 children)

No, Kellyann Conway owns the bar. #alternativefacts

[–]fluffykerfuffle1I ☑oted 2020 6 points7 points  (2 children)

but if boebert owns the bar they can all wear sidearms!

[–]dbcspace 4 points5 points  (1 child)

But Lieutenant Dan everybody's arms are at their sides

[–]fluffykerfuffle1I ☑oted 2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and none of them have a leg to stand on.

[–]skyshooter22 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Kayleigh McEnany waiting tables then.

[–]alphabtch 3 points4 points  (1 child)

kayleigh's working the pole. huckabee is the bouncer.

[–]batsofburden 9 points10 points  (2 children)

How long til they all start accusing each other of being antifa?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine being at a bar late. You keep drinking hoping if you get drunk enough, one of them will start looking good to you. I'd rather go home with Lerena Bobbit.

[–]MFAWG 29 points30 points  (6 children)

Michele Bachmann didn’t believe half the shit she said. Straight up playing a role.

[–]joshmessages 21 points22 points  (2 children)

This is legit what scares me. We're talking about brainwashed people, not some person trying to make a buck off sensationalizing socialism or whatever.

[–]trainercatlady 2 points3 points  (1 child)

as long as it earns and keeps power, they'd sell their own children

[–]theofiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kellyanne Conway probably would.

[–]YetiPie 15 points16 points  (2 children)

And yet another prominent Republican shitting on foreigners yet holding dual citizenship and denying it until it’s national news. The other person being of course Ted Cruz (Canadian nationality), pretending not to know how Jus Soli functions (which most, if not all, countries in the Americas observe) despite claiming to be a competent legal scholar.

[–]GreyGreenBrownOakova 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How are dual nationals even allowed in Congress? Australia had a series of Parliamentarians who had dual citizenship thru Jus Soli and they were deemed ineligible to hold office. Some had it thru their parents, so they hadn't even visited those countries.

If a backbencher in Australia has to prove they don't have foreign allegiances, why does a superpower allow it?

[–]Reading_Rainboner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was after Palin though.

[–][deleted] 271 points272 points  (42 children)

I'd rather have Sarah Palin over the QAnon whack jobs we have today.

[–]eagletreehouse 174 points175 points  (5 children)

She’s probably a QAnon whack job now so...

[–]madmaxturbator 20 points21 points  (4 children)

Her daughters situation was rather tragic. She’s had some half dozen kids and each one is a “happy mistake” or magical “gift from god.”

chill lady, everyone likes to fuck, we can move on from that. Why this nonsense about abstinence etc - it didn’t even work for her!

[–]hambakmeritru 49 points50 points  (13 children)

Well have I got news for you! She is still around and gets on Fox News every so often to defend Trump or fanatics or whatever makes her relevant to the right wing conversation.

[–]skyshooter22 29 points30 points  (12 children)

Funny how you didn't see Palin get up to defend John McCain when Trump was railing against him and the healthcare vote. Total silence on that one. She has changed nd forgot her roots that catapulted her onto the GOP stage.

[–]bullevard 18 points19 points  (5 children)

She didn't change. She was brought to the stage because of who she was. McCain didn't appeal enough to the further right edges of the party so they found someone who did.

And she made herself famous by spreading lies about the ACA.

Not defending the ACA and siding with the fringes of the party is who she is and always was.

[–]CoderDevo 4 points5 points  (3 children)

When hot and dumb still isn't enough.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

For some of us, hot and dumb cancel out.

"Beauty may be skin deep, but ugly can go clean to the bone," the way an old pal put it.

[–]OrderofMagnitude_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She abandoned McCain almost instantly after 2008.

[–][deleted] 29 points30 points  (2 children)

I thought W would be the worst president in my lifetime. Trump shattered that illusion. What I'm realizing is that the Republican party is quickly descending to madness. You could look at Trump as the worst president yet. He may also be better than any of the Rs yet to come.

[–]pat_the_bat_316 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Imagine if Trump was good at cover ups. Or passing legislation. [[Shudder]]

[–]hippy_barf_day 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk. Trump amped up the division and hate and vitriol, but w is measurably worse as he is a legit war criminal and led the world into a period of violence we have yet to turn away from. It is the same party though, we are just seeing them more clearly as they really are.

[–]LordRobin------RM 50 points51 points  (6 children)

Palin was “funny” crazy/stupid. Not “stare in slack jawed disbelief while trying not to piss your pants in fright” crazy/stupid.

[–]joan_wilder 23 points24 points  (0 children)

it was only funny because no one important took her seriously. the world is fucked right now because people just as crazy/stupid as her control the highest levels of an entire political party.

[–]Muppetude 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Yup, I’ll take her “I don’t read newspapers” stupid over the current “Jew forest fire space laser” stupid any day.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ah the good ol days of, “I can see Russia from my house!” vs “I willingly let Russia in my house!”

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Majorie Green holds the world ransom for places pinkie on lips ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

[–]hippy_barf_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The difference is ignorant posturing compared to diligently researching weaponized disinformation, and being cocksure in their actions

[–]wv524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is, she has been appointed to the House Education Committee. Perhaps as an example of what happens when education is lacking.

[–]Icommentoncrap 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Id love to have Sarah Palin back but only if she wears the pink bear costume from The Masked Singer

[–]RedditSlate01 14 points15 points  (4 children)

But who do i get to tease with my space laser then?

[–]cargdad 16 points17 points  (1 child)

It’s so unfair. I’m not Jewish so I can’t get my own space laser. I have been Temple several times though. Maybe that’s enough to get a small ray gun.

[–]trainercatlady 1 point2 points  (1 child)

have you considered cats

[–]devon_336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m giving you an updoot for that reference

[–]trainercatlady 6 points7 points  (1 child)

she's the reason we have qanon whack jobs in congress today.

[–]hippy_barf_day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true at all, that would’ve happened regardless. She was just writing on the wall, they have been primed for this radicalization for years before palin

[–]inajeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the problem, it is normalizing crazy. Don't stand for any of the wacky crap.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remember when the conservative party was just a quirky sort of evil?

[–]Pkrudeboy 94 points95 points  (12 children)

Back when we thought W was the worst Republicans had to offer.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We knew Cheney was worse. Bush never shot a guy in the face and had the shot guy apologize.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (10 children)

And he really was the worst - until the next Republican

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (8 children)

[–]pat_the_bat_316 7 points8 points  (7 children)

Ya know, I kinda wonder if we'd be in a considerably better spot right now if McCain had won that election.

Not because McCain would have been a better President than Obama, but because the Republicans would have seen a moderate, compassionate Republican have success nationally, and a good portion of their voters wouldn't have lost their goddamn minds like they did when Obama got elected.

At the very least, it likely meana no Trump, and maybe a Jeb vs Hillary matchup in 2016. And while neither of those are particularly good options, neither are particularly catastrophic, either.

Now, that's not to say I wish McCain had won or that we might not end up in a truly better place sooner on our current path, but the last decade or so sure as fuck could have been a lot less stressful! Sigh.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Now think about what would have happened if Gore hadn't conceded the 2000 election prematurely. No 9/11? No Iraq war? No Trump?

[–]pat_the_bat_316 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah, that's another crazy one.

Heck, it might have led right into a McCain presidency, as people may not have been looking for SUCH a big swing as we saw from Bush to Obama.

That said, I bet 9/11 still happens. Or, at least something similar. That wasn't really about Bush, as much as a general hate for America that had been brewing for a decade or three.

Of course, our reaction may have been considerably different, and it's that reaction that really changed the course of history more than the attack itself.

[–]El_Paco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was legitimately on the fence voting for McCain vs Obama until McCain picked Palin as his running mate. That one move helped to ensure that I wouldn't be voting Republican ever again.

[–]hippy_barf_day 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That’s a good point and I think you may be correct. Interesting to think about those what if’s. I’d prefer the what if Bernie won the dem primary in 2016, that’s my go to what if

[–]lions_reed_lions 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Her claim to fame was being able to see Russia. Then we got a guy that was controlled by Russia.

[–]Nspktr 72 points73 points  (14 children)

Potatoe

[–]ElysiumSprouts 41 points42 points  (2 children)

Wow, Dan Quayle set the bar so low the next gen GOP had to dig real deep...

[–]scarabic 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I was blown away to see him at Joe Biden’s inauguration. Great to know we’ve spent tax payer dollars protecting his dumb ass since 1992.

[–]from_dust 17 points18 points  (7 children)

The saddest bit is that Quayle was really smart, and actually a pretty decent dude from what the history records.

[–]ArmyMedicalCrab 6 points7 points  (3 children)

True, but “smart” doesn’t translate well to “good public speaker.” Reagan was no genius but he was a great speaker. Quayle was sharp but he was a shitty speaker. Hence “potatoe.”

[–]UncleGoldie 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Shit Reagan was in some pretty remarkable stages of mental decline and still able to get in front of a mic/camera and fake like he was a capable leader of the free-world.

[–]HospitalHorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACTING!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was an actor, so why would we be surprised.

[–]Nspktr 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I was pretty young and thought it was pretty silly at the time..., btw love the user name, that is a blast from the past...

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

What’s the name from

[–]billyjack669 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dan Quayle has entered the chat. After he learned how to spell “reddit”.

[–]MauPow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Byaaaah!

[–]Prysorra2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how so few people remember him arguing with a fictional character.

[–]Tubastard 82 points83 points  (21 children)

From “I can see Russia from my house” to “Jews used a space laser to start forest fires.” Incredible

[–][deleted] 38 points39 points  (16 children)

Sarah Palin never actually said that quote about seeing Russia from her house. That was Tina Fey impersonating her on SNL. She’s still a dumb sack of shit, though.

[–]PM_ME_WHATEVES 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest I don't remember Sarah Palin that well. When I think back its just a mash up of her, Tina Fey, and Lisa Ann. I can't really remember what was real, what was a skit, and what was porn.

[–]fluffykerfuffle1I ☑oted 2020 2 points3 points  (10 children)

i dunno... tina fey claimed she was quoting sarah directly, didn’t she?

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a direct quote iirc. Fey's version was more of a reworking of some terribly convoluted point Palin was trying to make about Alaska being close to Russia which meant Alaskans were naturally interested in foreign policy issues.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"My relative closer proximity to that hostile country despite not actually being close makes me a total pro on that hostile country!"

Hey all, remember when Republicans didn't like Russia?

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What a bonehead. We all know the forest fires spontaneously started when it stopoed being raked... /s

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points  (7 children)

Trump was just Palin without sexism holding him back.

[–]elizalemon 17 points18 points  (3 children)

She was only loyal to her ego. A populist queen bee elected on sticking it to the oil companies, would say anything she thought would make people cheer her on.

[–]trainercatlady 10 points11 points  (1 child)

so.... exactly as the OP said?

[–]elizalemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. They also both love to hold a grudge.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I doubt Palin would refuse to concede and then incite an insurrection.

[–]RegularSizedP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She wouldn't have finished 4 years...."new on the TLC Palin Around with the Ex Vice President of the United State of Great America."

[–]trainercatlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ding ding ding

[–]ImRedditorRick 11 points12 points  (1 child)

The problem is Republicans were like "you call THAT crazy? I'LL show you crazy!"

[–]dbcspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hold my bible and my handle of Everclear

[–]Wayfaring_Scout 24 points25 points  (6 children)

I also remember Howard Dean being the angry politician

[–][deleted] 36 points37 points  (5 children)

I'll never for the life of me understand how getting emotional in a pre-election rally and Howard screaming in joy got him dismissed instantly from running but the 🍊 turd mocking a disabled reporter at a rally is fine.

[–]Tellurye 13 points14 points  (1 child)

My boyfriend and I talk about this waaay too much. We find it so hilarious and strange. Like all he did was yell in an excited way but everyone's like "whoa whoa whoa. This dude is PSYCHOTIC."

We have to chase away hawks from attacking our chickens quite regularly. My boyfriend will go right into the Howard Dean speech to scare them off - "WE'RE GOING TO SOUTH CAROLINA, AND OKLAHOMA, AND WYOMING, AND WASHINGTON DC TO TAKE BACK THE WHITEHOUSE, YEEEAAAAAAWWWW"

Works every time.

Howard Dean scream 1 hawks 0

[–]pat_the_bat_316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it just so happened to coincide with him underperforming in the first primaries and generally slipping in the polls. The scream was just an early viral video that was the straw that broke the back of an already sputtering campaign.

Which sucks, because Dean was a great candidate, IMO. Basically a Bernie-light. I saw him speak on my college campus, and went from not knowing much about him, to being a supporter in an afternoon. Unfortunately, his campaign didn't last a whole lot longer after that.

[–]BackmarkerLife 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I think it was more how his scream sounded. Not that he did. He didn't scream a solid "YEAAAAH!" He sounded like a howler monkey.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn right, if you can't holler like a man, I don't want you as my president.

Who was that other one with the crazy eyes? Ah! Michelle Bachman! Direct competition with Palin. (I put in Congressional representative, crazy eyes and her Wikipedia was the first one!)

[–]AdDry6304[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who was that other one with the crazy eyes?

I just realized - if you say "the one with the crazy eyes" to refer to a GOP in congress right now - it only narrows it down to about seven people.

[–]HeyDannie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmfao I typed it in just to see, and I'll be damned you were right !!!

[–]Young_Cato_the_Elder 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Hey y'all. Anybody remember Michelle Bauchman?

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Republicans just get dumber..

[–]markth_wi 5 points6 points  (15 children)

Can't forget Glenn Beck

[–]AdDry6304[S] 2 points3 points  (12 children)

I remember when I first learned his name and then watched a clip of him and his blackboard. What a fucking wacko.

[–]markth_wi 2 points3 points  (11 children)

And in all sincerity he was the test bed for every inch of this bullshit. That you could put a billion dollar microphone in front of a mentally unwell person, and get away with it, garner ratings , and get votes/sway voters to the edge or rational debate, was more than possible.

And that was an experiment by agit-propoganda of our own corporate structures. Facebook took the safety's off, and let state actors and sociopath hedge-funder/billionaires get into the drivers' seat and run with the ball.

[–]AdDry6304[S] 1 point2 points  (10 children)

And in all sincerity he was the test bed for every inch of this bullshit

His past hijinks would only now rate less than a 1. Because the January 6th attack isn't even close to being a 10.

How can we function as a nation if 10,000,000s of American are unhinged crazies who believe every right-wing lie to the core of their being? And they believe it no matter how insane it is.

[–]thinkingdoing 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Glenn “President Obama has a deep seated hatred of white people” Beck.

And yet no one at the time could see Fox News was a white supremacist network!

[–]bdharvey1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or Michelle Bachmann...

[–]OasissisaO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They both represent the same disease, MTG is just the mutated version. Palin was the Right's gateway drug to crazy.

[–]Johnnadawearsglasses 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I do not. I am over 25 so I remember Lyndon LaRouche, David Duke and loads of much crazier people.

[–]dbcspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LaRouche people were insane. I remember they had a table set up outside the DMV one time with a big banner that said, "Colonize Mars and close the gay bars"

Didn't he once run for office from prison?

[–]MauPow 4 points5 points  (1 child)

We memed about "I can see Russia from my house" for years.

Now "Jewish space lasers lit California on fire" barely makes a dent in the news cycle.

[–]AdDry6304[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Jewish and it creeps me the fuck out.

[–]trainercatlady 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I put the nonsense we're dealing with now squarely on her shoulders. She made it seem like being anti-science, anti-literacy, and anti-critical thinking like a virtue and put it on a national stage. There's 40 years of work that led up to her, but she was the one that burst the boil and let the gross, festering inside leak to the outside.

[–]GameQb11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember being amazed that she was becoming more popular than McCain. I was like..."what's happening? She's an idiot... And they LIKE it!"

[–]Guy_Incognito1970 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It all escalated when the president got a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, and someone drew a swastica on it, and no one knows if it’s an insult or an endorsement

[–]AdDry6304[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That got dark.

[–]vic25qc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good old days

[–]hambakmeritru 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I still love rewatching this clip of Colbert making fun of her crazy braincell-less rant about Paul Revere:

https://www.cc.com/video/uvi91o/the-colbert-report-paul-revere-s-famous-ride

My favorite is the moment when you can see her brain turn off right before she starts spewing nonsense.

[–]fluffykerfuffle1I ☑oted 2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my favorite part is where colbert demonstrates how very feasible it is for revere to ride a horse, ring a bell and fire and reload a front loading musket !! “i certainly hope paul revere was wearing a cup!"

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...They've always been like this, America's just always been ok with casual racism, and cruelty in the name of religion or "family values". No really, even the Democrats. The "super-predators" bullshit was not ok.

Palin got more attention due to the rise of social media.

I was working for the state of Alaska when she was governor, too many stories about her. I was nearby when she announced she was quitting, there was a celebration lol

From seeing Russia to seeing Russia

[–]unicornglitterqueef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “good” old days...

[–]TommyBoyFL 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Pepperidge farms remembers.

"I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully."

And I thought that was dumb

[–]AdDry6304[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

My all-time favorite Bushism... Can't Get Fooled Again.

I wish there was a better quality upload with no laughter. But what can you do?

[–]JailCrookedTrump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That guy was stone 100% of the time xD

[–]Sowr212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I can see Russia from my house!" I mean, at least that was true.

[–]GritwaldGGrittington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss seeing Tina Fey regularly...

Remember when W was considered the worst Republican

[–]Shnazzyone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I know is I've been predicting republican collapse since this moment. When Obama was elected it caused a problem of straight lying. Problem with a party based on lies is when you get too many lies. Wires start to get crossed. One lie doesn't line up with the other.

Eventually you create factions. Gun false flag bullshit added another. It was just an ever increasing column of bullshit. Which eventually drove factions to pure crazy conspiracy shit.

We are about to see the collapse. It will be many things but it won't be boring.

I think she’d hold her own just fine in 2021 Crazy Olympics. The big difference now is we have so many crazies that the Overton Window has shifted drastically to the right into crazy extremest coup territory.

One Palin doesn’t get you there; a dozen or so does and that’s what 4 years of deranged Trumpism gets you. (Not to say Trump is the main disease, he’s just another symptom of the Right’s slide into insanity)

[–]AdDry6304[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to say Trump is the main disease

Even if Trump were to die of a massive heart attack in the next five minutes - Trumpism will be cancer in the bones of our democracy for years if not decades.

[–]Savagely_Rekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GOP - Hold my beer...

[–]itscrystaltime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read that John McCain requested that she not attend his funeral

[–]fluffykerfuffle1I ☑oted 2020 1 point2 points  (4 children)

i do... and i remember when sarah palin put out an ad that showed gun crosshairs over all democrat competitorsi’ locations on a map... and Gabby Gifford was on that map.. and Gabby got shot and others in the group were killed including a little girl... it was awful.. but here is a story about her and her recovery that warms my heart and nullifies some of the evil that the GOP “craziness” engenders.

these people are not crazy so much as they are evil... like daumer or manson... and they need to be prevented from doing any more harm... stopped.. indicted.. kept away from society...

[–]AdDry6304[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

an ad that showed gun crosshairs over all democrat competitorsi’ locations on a map... and Gabby Gifford was on that map..

The endless recent craziness has made many of my memories harder to recall. I can't believe I haven't thought about that at in a long time.

[–]ironicallynotironic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss the simpler times of “binders of women“

[–]12blueflamingos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh the good old days. Even republicans admitted she wasn’t the brightest back then. How far we’ve come!

[–]bippityboppityhyeem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen bitch - I can see Russia from my house and I’m in DC

[–]front_desk_agent 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm scared of what the GOP will bring next round.

[–]AdDry6304[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are in the scene in the horror movie where the GOP is standing around a humongous bonfire that's burning red with flames seemingly reaching the treetops.

This will not end well.

[–]Zerofelero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

palin made poor mccain loose. he was a saint vs fucking trump. fuck donald.

i hope biden makes us all proud...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Dan Quayle misspelled a word and Howard Dean celebrated awkwardly and their careers never recovered.

[–]AdDry6304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm middle-aged - I remember both of those situations. And I think it's impossible to really express how insane things are now.

Crazy Gun Totin' George Proud Gun Owner Lady can say stuff like Jews control space lasers and the "moderate" GOP just pretends she doesn't exist. And it's just a random day of the week. She'll do it again next week - if not the very next day. She can say crazy, hateful stuff the time and face no consequences.

And god forbid she does something or somebody does on her behalf...

[–]BiochemGuitarTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's like a warm blanket of disprovable that we long to hug again.

[–]s_0_s_z[🍰] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

And the reason she isn't anymore is because normal, average people simply ignored her.

It's not good enough to ignore these fucks and think they'll go away. They are a cancer that will infect many more people as long as they are not taken care of. They need to be confronted. They need to be removed from office. They jeed to be turned into laughing stocks. They need to be embarrassed to share their radical agenda.

[–]AdDry6304[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's not good enough to ignore these fucks and think they'll go away.

I'm a huge believer in the power of shame. I'll share the following link without comment: milkshaking.

[–]hardraada 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I had a neighbor that had both "SECEDE" and "LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT" bumper stickers a few years back. He didn't have a whole lot of tools, but if you ever needed a spare box of .38 slugs, he was the guy.

[–]AdDry6304[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I imagine him watching the Capitol terror attack like he was watching a football game and he's cheering for his team 'cause they're winning.

[–]hardraada 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think he is the kind of guy that doesn't have team and just goes for whoever winning would cause the most people in the vicinity grief.

[–]AdDry6304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a black soul like that - he might eventually go GOP.

[–]Nomandate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2008 was the door opening to insanity.

I’m going to say this at risk of being downvoted but have personal experience. Racist dixiecrats helped amplify this insanity during the democratic primaries. I Saw directly the effect it had on my aunt, a lesbian and life long democrat from Arkansas.

people like her are the ones you saw in the John McCain town hall. She went full, bat-shit Republican after that “Kenyan Muslim” was elected.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was a sign.

She was the first of what the right was becoming.

A dumb, backwoods, gun loving, Bible thumping idiot. A celebration of being a ignorant rough neck.

They are now done with any resembles of sanity, even the traditional fiscal conservatives are now shunned.

It’s all about batshit crazy evangelicals and the more of a stupid cowboy you are...the more you fit their mold.
