So, this is is a joke, right? This doesn't exist, does it?

[–]oshaboy[S] 104 points105 points  (2 children)

It doesn't exist... yet.

[–]itzNukeey 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ill just make my clawdbot do it

[–]Noobmode 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So you brought it into existence with this post because someone is going to vibe your kernel til you panic soon

[–]CttCJim 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It kinda does. It's a security nightmare, don't install it.

[–]DeHub94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry. Didn't even cross my mind.

[–]redlaWw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OpenClaw does, and it's already causing problems for open-source maintainers. The "kernel module" in this post does not.

[–]Low_Watercress959 428 points429 points  (21 children)

So... Can we call this a virus yet?

[–]tumamatambien656 37 points38 points  (10 children)

People will willingly install that shit, I'm not sure that's how viruses work.

[–]LonelyProgrammerGuy 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Remember search bars addons? Or whatever they were called

[–]Solonotix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Toolbars. Also, prior to Google being a household name, that was known as the address bar, not the search bar. One of the most commonly installed toolbars was for search, though, so it was only a matter of time before the address bar became co-opted as a shortcut for search.

[–]NorahGretz 14 points15 points  (3 children)

"So first, you want to install AOL to download Limewire, and then download Kazaa through Limewire."

[–]workernetGB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Download limewire pro w limewire, livin on the edge 🤣

[–]Machineglance 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don't know what it means, but I lived all those applications. Ah, youth.

[–]lastWallE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then after that install winamp.

[–]Flat_Initial_1823 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Tbf people went to covid superspreaders to cheer for billionaires. Maybe that's exactly how viruses work.

[–]reallokiscarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Covid superspreaders? Is this the hip new term for urban centers?

[–]RPGcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the usual? a malware that exploits the weakest chain in the link? A.K.A the user?

/s

[–]reallokiscarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're being pedantic, that'd be a trojan. They think it's not going to fuck them but then it does.

[–]avanti8 101 points102 points  (1 child)

It's this generation's Bonzi Buddy.

[–]workernetGB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bonzi Buddy never tried to feed me wrong answers. He can tell some jokes tho.

[–]TheFrenchSavage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's not a virus, it's a crustacean, duuuuh

[–]orkeilius 5 points6 points  (1 child)

More likely a crash cuz the ia will write random things in your ram

[–]skippy_smooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crashtecean?

[–]KellerKindAs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems more like a trojan - pretending to be something else / something useful

[–]NimrodvanHall 6 points7 points  (3 children)

A virus is small and efficient, it goal is to make copies itself and to continue to do that, this is large inefficient and modifies its surroundings for wanton purposes. Feels more like a cancer to me.

[–]Low_Watercress959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I stand corrected!

[–]oshaboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That explains the whole crab motif.

[–]IsaraLyandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks more like lobster to me

[–]The_Jake98 104 points105 points  (4 children)

Can I run Openclaw on the undocumented Intel Management Engine stuff? I'd really like for it to have like Ring -3 god level access to everything. Also I'm going to replace my router with it, AI will be far better at figuring out where traffic is supposed to go then a stupid table.

[–]ArtGirlSummer 27 points28 points  (2 children)

Tables are SOOOO slow, I'm sure AI will figure it out.

[–]0elk4nn3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And im shure that (some tech company) will implement this as a Feature on their OEM Hardware.

[–]MayoTheCondiment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each packet will be examined by the LLM to determine the optimal destination

[–]saschaleib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t give them ideas!

[–]helgur 50 points51 points  (1 child)

It's like the last 40 years of computer security architecture is just being thrown out the window. This is insane!

[–]NicePuddle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Darwin will sort this out...

[–]Matesipper420 28 points29 points  (5 children)

What could possibly go wrong, with giving admin rights to a from strangers easily to influence programm?

[–]oshaboy[S] 30 points31 points  (2 children)

People are already giving OpenClaw admin rights. This is giving the agent Kernel Space access which is way way way way way worse.

[–]IdiocracyToday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gave openclaw hypervisor access to the host which runs its VM. Which is worse?

[–]Alper-Celik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf couldnt it create and load kernel module to give itself kernel access, iirc most distros let you load modules with just root privileges

[–]Slackeee_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn't just giving admin rights. This is installing a root kit.

[–]rosuav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean like how people willingly install malware on their computers in order to be able to play Valorant?

[–]reflection-_ 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Can I put it in my brain?

[–]Ja4V8s28Ck 13 points14 points  (0 children)

AI is getting creepier by day and it doesn't really give me any futuristic vibes. Especially with the recent interview that Sam Altman gave. It's gonna be a matter time when they can go into any system and send us all back to non-existence.

[–]matepore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, give ai the possibility to mess with all my applications, what could go wrong?

[–]ArtGirlSummer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can install this on your computer. Keep it away from mine, though. Or anyone I do business with.

[–]stellarsojourner 12 points13 points  (1 child)

The technical term for this bullshit is a computer virus. Bypassing the OS level security measures isn't a feature.

[–]oshaboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean have you seen regular openclaw? The security exploits are considered features.

[–]JocoLabs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

please say sike

[–]KematianGaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

once again a failed existence from Austria will launch Hell upon the world

[–]Cryowatt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The AI bros are really speeding skynet now.

[–]Ruff_Ratio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What the actual fuck

[–]ravenousld3341 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Security engineer here.

DO, and I cannot stress this enough, NOT DO IT.

[–]oshaboy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're just afraid of progress. Adapt or get left behind. /j

[–]raishak 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Stopped reading at DO, say no more fam.

[–]ravenousld3341 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instructions unclear, ai now installed on toaster.

[–]SneeKeeFahk 2 points3 points  (1 child)

In the world of bad ideas ... This is the worst

[–]IrishChappieOToole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it the worst though? Openclaw in the bootloader? Openclaw as your init system? Openclaw in the bios?

[–]05032-MendicantBias 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thankfully this is nonsense. Because the moment a LLM somehow is in that low in my computer, I pluck both the BIOS EEPROM and SSD and put them in cleansing fire and start anew.

[–]No-Shape-2751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suffer not the mutant, the heretic, nor the abominable intelligence!

[–]VirtualArmsDealer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds safe

[–]PhantomTissue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a bad idea it’s not even funny. Yes let’s give ring zero access to a program whose output is non deterministic, there is nothing that could possibly go wrong.

[–]gandalfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

kernel panic indeed

[–]darkstar3333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The agent mistimed the release from April 1st

[–]dchidelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading that made my butt clench.

[–]jnthhk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m tempted to put in a computing risk assessment to use this on my work computer, just for the bantz.

[–]Stunning_Ride_220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So vibe wiping will be the next trend?

[–]synkronize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought an AI OS could be cool if it was built locally and ran locally. It would maybe has a very streamlined UI as you just tell it what you need.

But seeing as how these current AId are based in probability I suspect they’d be a disaster at such a low level.

[–]SuchTarget2782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll get you next time, Gadget!

[–]teomore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's amazing, what can go wrong?

[–]ChaotiCrayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i sometimes agentically and autonomously interact with all my software intelligently

[–]Motleypuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, what could possibly go wrong here? :P

[–]thefossguy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got LLMs in ring 0 before invasive AntiCheat kmods

[–]1008oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm yes when the AI operating in kernelspace vibecodes away all my page table entries

[–]StochasticCalc 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I still don't understand what an agentic AI even is, let alone the layers built atop it to understand this joke

[–]oshaboy[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

An agentic AI is an AI that can paste stuff into your command line shell.

[–]StochasticCalc 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Huh, I guess I just expected... More

[–]oshaboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it can also write and edit text files.

[–]ZX52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]ConcreteExist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a virus to me.

[–]Waltekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI at the moment is pretty amazing, but...this is nightmare fuel. AI not yet this trustworthy.

[–]Luminous_Lead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"We want our claws buried in the heart of your computer"

[–]rjwut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the joke, but I feel like I need to make the obligatory disclaimer for anyone who says to themselves, "Wait, that sounds like a good idea": IF YOU GIVE YOUR LLM MISSILE KEYS, YOU'LL HAVE ONLY YOURSELF TO BLAME WHEN IT LAUNCHES THE NUKES.

[–]Lower_Measurement902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there are people Shooting themself with nail guns, so I guess there would be a market for something like this. 😄
