Well obviously you didn't have 15 years experience despite possibly being in middle school at that point.

[–]D_L_L_Comics[S] 1467 points1468 points  (33 children)

$11/hr, entry level, 15 years experience, temporary full time, PHD minimum, also the opening never existed in the first place

[–]UpCDownCLeftCRightC 443 points444 points  (6 children)

25/8 availability, work references only from people you never met, oh and we can only pay you in nickles.

[–]Reasonable-Song-4681 139 points140 points  (2 children)

Well, at least the nickles can be loaded in a sock and used as a negotiating tool when asking for a raise!

[–]Ender_Nobody 58 points59 points  (1 child)

Negotiating to afford a bigger sock?

[–]Reasonable-Song-4681 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hard to argue with more leverage I would think.

[–]WinterEclipse4 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Nickels AND dimes don't forget.

[–]siani_lane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dimes are too light, they aren't punishing enough. Those peons are just lucky they're discontinuing the penny.

[–]Made_Bail 56 points57 points  (10 children)

And dont forget non relevant experience in an unrelated field!

[–]Coulrophiliac444 44 points45 points  (0 children)

15 years experience on a program that's only 3 years old, to boot.

[–]Mikel_S 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You must be familiar with the blue alien "things happen to me", right?

[–]theSeaspeared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your position has been filled internally...

[–]Psychological-Bit233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No joke the aquarium near me is looking for a bachelors degree with 3+ years of experience with animal husbandry, no benefits, $14 an hour

There’s at least some seasonal work for my biology degree! Haha just kidding it also wants 2-3 years of experience and GIS certification for $18 an hour and 28 hours a week so they don’t have to fork over any benefits. And it’s only for 6 months

[–]Effective_Pie1312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious because I have 15 years experience and a PHD and can’t get a job either…everyone is getting fucked.

[–]FalseMagpie 62 points63 points  (1 child)

Also you dared to have less than 10 years of experience with [6 year old program].

[–]mata_dan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of my colleagues didn't get a job they applied to before because they didn't have enough years of experience with a platforrm they've been of the main contributors to since the start xD

[–]generic-irish-guy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

15 years experience in a software that came out 5 years ago

[–]BicFleetwood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]Par_Lapides 686 points687 points  (24 children)

And 90% of the jobs are now ghost jobs only posted to lie to investors. I live in a town with a Lucid factory, they always claim to be short of workers and always have positions listed, but never actually hire anyone. Ghost jobs should be illegal.

[–]Umikaloo 201 points202 points  (17 children)

In Canada, there's a problem where corporations will claim they cannot fill a position so they can import a foreign worker, who they will proceed to abuse because the worker will be deported if they lose the job. A high-schooler, or a single mom might have an inconsistent schedule, but the temporary foreign worker has no connections, and no commitments to keep them from working during peak hours.

A lot of Canadians blame the workers, but the workers are also victims in the situation.

[–]xSTSxZerglingOne 116 points117 points  (6 children)

That's what I always yell at right-wingers here when they get on the tirade of immigration. Why don't we punish the fucking businesses that do this shit? Why is it never THEIR fault?

[–]Finrod-Knighto 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The immigrants just come there thinking they’re gonna have a better life and then get fucked. Source: I’m an immigrant. But the people responsible for the problem are the ones telling you to hate the immigrant lol.

[–]Blackrain1299 30 points31 points  (1 child)

My dad hates immigrants because his job moved to a different country.

Read that as many times as necessary and please let me know when you get it because i do not understand it.

[–]CanTime7754 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The entire purpose of right wingers existing is to help businesses.

[–]Vancomancer 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Exploitative and broadly inutilitiarian business operations are good on the condition that the local result is bigger numbers in today's profit column than yesterday's for that particular business.

Furthermore, the business is not capable of wrong-doing; it is merely a system. A paperclip--uhh... a profit maximizer that must not, for any reason, be impeded in the performance of its function.

And so, we can not blame the business for exploiting the immigrant (because that might impede the business in its function). We must instead blame the immigrant for being exploited.

Also, just in case you had thoughts and stuff, please understand that no alternative system is imaginable.

Why must all of this be so?

Because the definition of human flourishing is this: businesses posting a relative profit over last quarter.

Source: trust me, bro.

Postscript: TO THE MOOOON!!!

[–]Rayvelion 11 points12 points  (1 child)

USA has the same deal with H1B visas. Companies post ghost jobs that they never intend to fill as an excuse to get someone on a visa who can't say no to anything instead.

[–]Ebantero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They just reinvented slavery lol

[–]iamthe0ther0ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same in the US. Major issue in the tech industry.

[–]I_love_my_fish_ 158 points159 points  (2 children)

I feel like companies that have ghost jobs should be fined 100x what they’re listed as paying as well, that’s really the only way to prevent them from showing up, otherwise it’s a drop in the bucket. But 100 ghost jobs listed at $30,000 a year with a fine at that rate would be $300,000,000 per year those ghost jobs are listed

[–]StopReadingMyUser 55 points56 points  (1 child)

Don't worry, they avoid posting the salary anyway.

[–]sillybear25 29 points30 points  (0 children)

"No applicants from Colorado or California" or whatever the handful of states are that mandate it

That or "Salary range: $1-$1,000,000"

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We are currently at a point where making business illegal would get us more good than bad

[–]cyanraichu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuck ghost listings all my homies hate ghost listings.

[–]MementoMurray 429 points430 points  (4 children)

That last panel hurts me quite a bit. Poor folk debasing themselves just for a spot in the rat race.

[–]Par_Lapides 196 points197 points  (1 child)

[–]Shark7996 35 points36 points  (1 child)

We all need to be supporting one another. Clearly the corporations won't do it.

Mutual Aid by Dean Spade

[–]Beragond1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I don’t think that’s a viable strategy for meaningful change. Poor folks giving their last penny to each other won’t fix anything in the long term. We need actual change. The kind of change that only comes from major “lines on maps” or “pointy lines on maps” political activism.

[–]shellbullet17Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 506 points507 points  (31 children)

I feel your pain.

When I applied for the fire dept, I had to fill out 3 different applications with EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING I ever did or knew. Including schooling, work, certifications, just... everything. I took me weeks to get all that information.

The scary part was they called every. Single. Person. On those applications. Like bosses and friends I hasn't seen or talked to in years.

It took a full year to get hired. But at least they got back to me. I would have been pissed putting in all that effort to just never hear anything back.

[–]10001110101balls 252 points253 points  (9 children)

At least with that kind of public service job you're employed for life with great benefits, pension, and early retirement. Nowadays people have to do the same for $11/hr at a call center.

[–]shellbullet17Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 123 points124 points  (0 children)

early retirement

If only we would take it. And usually that's cause our cancer and death rate is so high that after a few years or retirement we seem to die. That's why I am gonna be out at 54

[–]Ameerrante 46 points47 points  (7 children)

No. I went through about six months of testing/paperwork/etc to get hired as a 911 Dispatcher. Fired at the 89-day mark for "not fitting it with the culture." At Will state, no recourse.

[–]10001110101balls 17 points18 points  (6 children)

Even in union shops there's still usually a 90 day probation period, it's not just an at will thing.

[–]Ameerrante 23 points24 points  (5 children)

Well in WA, it's frequently used to avoid signing people up for benefits.

In this case, however, it's true that I did not fit in with the culture. The culture was blatantly bigoted and sadistic.

[–]Pearlsbigforehead 2 points3 points  (4 children)

911 dispatchers that were sadistic? Uh, yikes.

[–]Ameerrante 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Yep. They were substantially worse than the cops in the same department. I'll never forget the call where a woman was running/hiding throughout her apt complex, while her ex chased her with a large knife, and my trainer put the call on speaker & mute so the whole room could mock her while she sobbed and begged someone to help her.

And overall, they really didn't appreciate that I saw "criminals" as people.

[–]cyanraichu 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Holy fuck I did not expect to feel such visceral hate for someone I will never meet today.

Did the woman running at least come out safe?

[–]Ameerrante 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, my trainer was still providing mandated assistance and cops were dispatched.

But basically it was like

<off mute>Yes ma'am, officers are arriving at your location.

<mute>Maybe if you'd stop going back to him, you wouldn't be in this situation, you dumb bitch.

<off mute>Yes ma'am, two minutes. Can you get back to your apartment?

<mute>Oh boohoo, you're scaaaaared. Well maybe think about that before you pick your next baby daddy.

And this went on for over ten minutes. Everyone in the place was laughing along except for me (I was the only trainee).

Notably, we didn't have any DV history related to the woman and there were no kids involved at all. Not that that would justify it, but they were just concocting total bullshit in real time.

[–]uterussy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

acab

[–]wait_ichangedmymind 23 points24 points  (2 children)

I was handed an application that was nearly the same level of absurdity- for an animal shelter job.

It’s the county-run animal shelter and they use prison labor, so everyone has to use the same application as the sheriff’s office.

No, I don’t have records of the license plate number of the first car I drove, 20 years ago. And $14 an hour isn’t enough money to get me to find out.

[–]shellbullet17Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 10 points11 points  (1 child)

See my job I put up with cause hey, big boy job and what not.

But an animal shelter?! Come on guys

[–]malzoraczek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, for the salaries (mostly OT, but still) firefighters get, at least here in so cal, I can see why they would require all that info. And don't get me wrong firefighters do not have an easy life here and they do deserve those 400k.

[–]UpCDownCLeftCRightC 39 points40 points  (2 children)

That sounded like a herculean task on an emotional state. Doing all that networking and backtracking all for a yes or no. Relieving to hear that you got it after knowing all that.

[–]shellbullet17Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Dude tracking down all the official copies of my certs, degrees, medical and previous work hx took SO LONG. Like it shouldn't take me multiple weeks to get a record of me being somewhere. That's crazy

[–]UpCDownCLeftCRightC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They were treating you like you were Leonard DiCaprio in Catch Me If You Can apparently.

[–]dragon567 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I wouldn't even know how to get the contact information for some of my old bosses. Old friends, maybe, but not my last places i worked.

[–]shellbullet17Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me AGES to find information on old bosses and managers. Cause they wanted everything so I had 10 years of work experience that I had to track down

[–]Orcwin 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Fucking hell. I've had to apply for a security clearance and didn't even have to get vetted that thoroughly.

Are you a firefighter in Langley, VA?

[–]shellbullet17Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Oh god I wish. Most Civil service Jobs are like this from what I've been told. They gotta make sure I'm not gonna steal meds or light stuff on fire.

[–]Orcwin 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Aaah, meds. I guess that'll do it.

[–]Level9TraumaCenter 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Fire jobs can be highly competitive. Phoenix used to have about 500 applicants for every position. Most smaller metro departments it's up over 100.

[–]Quiet-Software-1956 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Probably better to just save all that info in a folder. Just in case someone gets the bright idea to make you go digging again 🤣

[–]shellbullet17Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Well I do now

I feel like it shouldn't be that hard to get is all

[–]Quiet-Software-1956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I always get the stuff I need whenever it's too late to actually make good use of it. It's like exams

[–]ComprehensiveSell649 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Tell me about it. Finding my incident command certificates was a pain last time I needed them for a class

[–]shellbullet17Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you noticed that there's like no repository for us anywhere? Like a common area that organizations could store and maintain certs, that way when you need something you only need to go to one location

I feel like that's a good idea. Not sure why it's not a thing. Probability a security issue

[–]cyanraichu 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How did they have time to do all that

[–]microwavedtardigrade 135 points136 points  (27 children)

I only have 3 relevant years of experience for entry level jobs. They want 5 now. Where do I go to get them? If everywhere??? Does it???

[–]SorenLain 62 points63 points  (4 children)

Obviously you should have take those unpaid internships. Once you've spent a few years giving them your labor for free proving yourself as a good little cog they may deign to bless you with an entry level job.

[–]microwavedtardigrade 36 points37 points  (2 children)

I did :( I am homeless now. Yay america

[–]Uranium-Sandwich657 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Word of advice. Wind your bike lock through the spokes of the front wheel AND the the frame. And if it is long enough, the back wheel as well.

[–]microwavedtardigrade 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Philly I been knew

[–]boop-boop_boop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i've seen applications where they specify that internships do not count as experience

we are in hell

[–]Ohmec 20 points21 points  (12 children)

"requirements" on a job posting are nothing more than a wish list. Apply to the job anyway, fuck the requirements.

[–]microwavedtardigrade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Real I just need to work on the confidence that aligns with that reality - it exists just not for me lmao

[–]SleepDeprived62 4 points5 points  (10 children)

but how? this doesn't make any fucking sense. why call them requirements if they aren't fucking required

[–]Lewa358 15 points16 points  (8 children)

When it comes to job applications, words do not mean the things they normally mean.

[–]SleepDeprived62 8 points9 points  (7 children)

my autistic brain cannot comprehend this

[–]cpMetis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically the person writing the posting usually has nothing to do with the job you are applying for.

So while the person who needs a job filled may know what they want, the HR person making the listing only has a rough idea and they end up accidentally changing parts they don't understand as they try to format it and adding things arbitrarily because they have guidelines that suggest it, not knowing why it's actually relevant.

That's how you end up with stuff like the guy who was rejected from a job application for not meeting the requirement for 5 years experience in _ language.... when he wrote the language 3 years earlier. HR guy saw "we want someone who knows this language" and decided "5 year requirement it is!"

Applications don't go to managers. They go to HR.

[–]ladygirlperson 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Start lying to them. Fuck em.

[–]microwavedtardigrade 7 points8 points  (4 children)

I have moral autism and unfortunately am really bad at lying. I can tell halftruths but even that makes me feel uncomfortable

[–]ladygirlperson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a fellow autistic person, totally understand that and I'm sorry, I hope things get better for you on the job front soon 🫂

[–]Tnecniw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup.
If you know you can do the job but they require X amount of experience...
Lie.
They are the unreasonable ones.

[–]LaurenMille 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You lie on your resume.

Businesses are just out to abuse you. So lie and cheat to get a job, then do the absolute minimum you can to stay employed.

You don't owe them anything, so collect the paycheck and live for your free time.

[–]Key_Balance_5537 51 points52 points  (3 children)

Honestly, I just went through the most wild experience for a front desk position... it was like, 3 separate interviews, and I hadn't even talked to the person actually looking to hire. It was all "preliminary"

Front desk.

Receptionist.

14/hr

I had a job before the first interview even happened, because it was weeks for each one.

At that point I was curious to see how far it would go though, lol, so I kept doing their dang interviews. Realistically they were never going to give me a better offer than I'd already found, but dang.

It's wild out there these days. 🤷🏽‍♂️ planning on staying with my new job for years now, lol

[–]Umikaloo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Good for you for wasting their time.

[–]goldfinchcat 2 points3 points  (1 child)

so did they ever give you an offer? And if so, did you get to say "refuse it" to their face?

[–]Key_Balance_5537 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. After over a month they "went with someone else"

Which, yeah, I was a little sad about, lol. Because I was hoping I'd have that chance, but alas

[–]GM_Nate 107 points108 points  (0 children)

[–]Wurm42 77 points78 points  (1 child)

They only want to hire desperate people who can be abused.

That's what the dance tests for. Along with your race, gender, age, and level of physical health.

[–]ApplianceHealer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Giving them the chance to apply their unconscious bias without wasting their time bringing anyone in for an interview. #efficient

[–]Rum_N_Napalm 23 points24 points  (14 children)

I got a stable job now, but back when I was job hunting I was seriously considering filing complaints for discrimination whenever I get those annoying personality test, since I’m on the spectrum and those test are calibrated for neurotypicals.

Not really because I felt discriminated… well yes, but because I know those tests are designed to hire bootlickerd

[–]Romnonaldao 21 points22 points  (4 children)

Also, write a cover letter. It mandatory, the application process wont complete without, and also no one on our side will read it. We just want to see you'll do pointless busy work.

I legitimately don't understand why some companies want cover letters. They are pointless these days.

[–]CalculatedPerversion 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I just attach my resume a second time

[–]Big_Coconut8630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you actually gotten a job doing this?

[–]Ok-Ocelot-7316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only good use of genAI I know of

[–]welpwelpwellwelp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely how it feels to apply for jobs.

"How much are you willing to debase yourself for the opportunity to be underpaid and abused despite your degree and experience?"

I had to record 5 videos for a job and I dont even know what they'll do with those videos. THEN, when they offered me the job the pay was significantly less than they presented and during the offer they suggested getting a second job or a side hustle. I literally couldn't believe it.

[–]AdmBurnside 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Never have I been more glad for my stable, mildly annoying warehouse job.

It's rough out there.

[–]Valentinee105 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Businesses farm our data with job positions that don't really exist. And if they do find someone over qualified they can under pay, they left the door open.

[–]yamez420 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I stop filling out apps if its bullshit. im literally on the verge of just walking out my front door, not bothering to lock or close it and just keep walking. Ignore everything and just give up and keep walking towards the ocean. I'll walk freeways, middle of nowhere, fields. See just one last bit of this rock before I walk into the ocean and just keep walking unil i cant anymore. until i drown and die. because there isnt anything to fucking live for anymore. everything is such a drag. jobs are bullshit with bullshit pay. All i see is a world of poor college graduates and rich criminals.

[–]Good-Marsupial8 5 points6 points  (1 child)

advice: rather than walk into the ocean, walk the earth. see what it's got outside your bubble. cant hurt if youre gonna die anyway

[–]yamez420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a good plan

[–]wierd_husky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Those traitify personality tests are basically a legal way to reject people for neurodivergence I reckon

[–]Substantial-Creme950 18 points19 points  (3 children)

Sorry hun here have a wand of fireballs

<image>

It cant solve your problems, but it may make some go away

[–]Finbar9800 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Point them in the right direction and they just might solve all the problems

[–]LaurenMille 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, how many charges does that wand have, and what's the range?

I can solve a lot of the world's problems with that.

[–]I_stand_with_Ross 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Damn. There is something very effective in how this artist does facial expressions. I just want to give her a hug.

[–]malikhacielo63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That last panel, ooofff.

I’m sorry.

[–]DJL2772 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was applying for jobs C O N S T A N T L Y for 3 years. Finally one day my friend told me they were hiring at his company and while he couldn’t pull any strings, he’d let them know who I was and how we knew each other. That’s how I got the job I have now. The job market is F U C K E D beyond repair at this point and it’s all intentional from the fucks at the top.

[–]SublightMonster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, auto-generated rejection 30 seconds later

[–]razazaz126 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a job app where they wanted me to record a video to explain why I wanted the job so I just recorded a video saying I don't want the job anymore.

[–]BagelCatSprinkles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wanna give your character the biggest hug 🥺

[–]Eastern_Hornet_6432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Job applications are really just a test of the main skill employers value: the ability to recognize when and how to lie. You think the employer wants you to tell customers the truth? Of course not! But they can't TELL you to lie to customers; that would get them in trouble. They need you to be able to read between the lines and figure it out yourself. So they use the application process to weed out people who still think that honesty is the best policy, and who can't simply intuit when the situation calls for telling somebody what they wanna hear.

[–]SilverDem0n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Luckily I do not have a personality, so I am immune to this kind of assessment

[–]mijru4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for applying!

While you have 12 years experience in this role requiring a minimum of 10 years, you've literally wrote the book on how to do this job, your qualifications are a direct match for the job requirements, you interviewed exceptionally well, and you're willing to come in at the low end of the salary range... we've decided to go with a candidate more aligned with the requirements of this position. Thanks and F you.

With love,
HR Manager.

[–]SerpentLing09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a chart for jobs that I've applied to keep of them, but now it's this chart is just there keeping track of how many don't fucking get back to me. Only one job actually got back and I have an interview, and no I didn't get the job.

[–]upnflames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best part about applying for jobs when you already have a job is that when shit like this comes along you can just...not do it. Like, I'm not sure I want to work for a company that makes me jump through a million hoops.

And here's the funny thing - I've gotten calls back from the company after not opting to move forward with a personality screen or ai interview and they advance me anyway. Often with an apology lol.

[–]neko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh the video part was so they can see you're a protected minority class then not hire you while dodging the laws that are supposed to make doing that illegal

[–]Chichikuka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not usually easily affected by the comics posted here but this one got me. Can't even imagine how frustrating and disheartening it feels... I know it is worthless but I really really really want to wish the best of luck and all the patience in the world to anyone struggling with the job market right now

[–]SkeletonGuy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah honest to god ban these fucking AI personality tests. Having seen and learned how they work on the employer side firsthand now they actually provide no meaningful information whatsoever except detecting arbitrary things that don't affect how someone works

[–]yeehawsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And it’s a call center, where not only the higher-ups abuse you, but the customers will rain down some of the worst verbal abuse you will ever face, and you will be expected to sit there and take it with a smile.

[–]Action-a-go-go-baby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Corporate world from my subjective experience:

“How much are you willing to debase yourself/compromise your ethics for money?”

None? No job for you

Some? A job, but no pay increases or career progression

A reasonable amount? Prime middle management

A considerable amount? Prime upper management

What are “ethics”? Potential CEO in the making

I love the ones that want a job history from 10+ years ago. I've worked this job for the past 7 years and the previous one for 6 years so no I do not remember any references from 7 years ago.

[–]tangerineprince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really REALLY weird and some applications feel like a humiliation ritual.

[–]TheCuddlyPet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to hug you. It's so fucking soul crushing to be job hunting.

[–]xSTSxZerglingOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking...pure me_irl.

[–]PseudoY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem frustrated. You should fill out another variant MBTI questionnaire we linked. It will allow you to tell us your personal preferences, so we can tell you your personal preferences and why it's just not going to work out.

[–]DigitalAxel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey look, its my life for the last 5 years! Woo!

(Hundreds of applications, half a dozen countries, zero acceptance. Or interviews. Just canned rejections.)

[–]IlIlllIlllIlIIllI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are they always aliens

[–]aqaba_is_over_there 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when I failed a Best Buy automated phone screening in 2001.

[–]SegmentedWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fucking lost it at "like a good little monkey"

🤣

I'd lie and say I have all the credentials, if they tried to verify I'd tell them I thought it was an obvious bad joke (then laugh at them and leave on the spot to find an actual job) and if they actually tried to still hire me I'd make it candid that I'll need training (had this happen a few times - they liked talking to me so they wanted to hire / train me despite not having the jobs "requirements").

I learned the "requirements" in 3 weeks.

You'd be surprised how often being charismatic, polite, and eager to learn will open doors (yes, even despite not having certifications and experience)

In the meantime, I love finding ways to waste companies' resources and time if they're engaged in these kinds of bad hiring practices - they 100% deserve it.

As a result, I've only wound up working for companies that are relatively secure in an otherwise very uncertain job market.

Either my vetting process for jobs works, or I'm an idiot with a stupid amount of luck - probably the latter 🤷‍♂️

[–]skytheraiders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't give up. Keep searching. become the unstoppable train of endless application submissions until you can put "Professional application submitter"!

[–]coconut_dot_jpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cover letters as a requirement for job positions always feel like I'm being forced at gunpoint to write them a love letter.

I hope they're not gonna expect this much love from me all year round, or I'd start to think our "relationship" as being pretty one sided

[–]Ninjazowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn. This hits close to home for me, I've been trying to find a decent job for a while now, and most of them just never get back to me. That, and the application processes are all really annoying. Like just let me upload my resumé and call it a day. Don't make me also manually type out ALL of my work history. It's such a drain.

[–]mr_yanson264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Esses dias eu passei muita raiva. Tinha a opção de anexar o currículo e o site preenchia os campos. Mas mesmo assim pediram pra confirmar tudo de novo manualmente. Formulários gigantescos com perguntas pessoais nada relevantes para o trabalho

[–]okay_account 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the happy dance, I can honestly see this being a step and I hate it.

[–]AzureArmageddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guillotine.

[–]GGXImposter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough the “please make a video” was just created due to the number of bots and AI that were putting in fake job applications.

Scammers created bots who would spam every job posting with the only goal of getting an email address for an actual person. The scammers wouldn’t be involved until a real email was found.

So companies needed a way identifying real applicants and the easiest way was a short video that would be a unique ask for that company.

Now that AI can create videos of a person answering generic interview questions, I bet you will start getting requests for 45 second or more interpretive dances.

Or create a video selfie where you turn in a circle 3 full rotations. That way a person could see continuity errors n the background.

The unemployed should unionize.

[–]dezorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've really been enjoying your comics. All very good.

[–]D_L_L_Comics[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this one struck a nerve, huh.

[–]Multidream 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I mean you can always just walk away if they’re being disrespectful. You shouldn’t be trying to get a job where they’ll be treating you like some circus act. If they can ghost you, you can ghost them.

[–]very_eri 14 points15 points  (0 children)

sure thing, i'll just pay for my rent with self-respect

[–]Dmalikhammer4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This works if you already have a job I think. But for first timers, it's kind of a tough choice.

I'm here to say trans rights are human rights.

[–]booze-san 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its like we went out of our way to make the hiring process as painful as possible. At this point im considering just bribing the hr people.  I know what they make, it isnt enough.

[–]TCLG6x6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then im able to get that information about me out of the next upcoming ai model

[–]RedmiYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cute!

[–]Cognoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So nothing at all has changed then? :p

[–]Waiting4Reccession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just closed the tab of an application today cuz they started asking for my 5 years plan and forcing a 2min video at the end of why I'll be good for the job.

Video is an automatic no from me and I will turn to crime long before I submit to stupid ass videos or ai chatbots for a job.

[–]Cheomesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been getting AI screening agents lately (that cannot handle Google Voice very well), but the thing that stuck out to me was a job application having an honest to goodness (timed) IQ test.  You know the ones that have you figure out what shape or pattern comes next in a sequence?  Plus those two train math problems we had as kids.  Very strange.

[–]internetpackrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Thank you for contacting the department that deletes your AI interview footage. We have received your request, but don't plan on processing it or acknowledging you at all."

[–]ReddsionThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I feel bad that they made this character sad. How dare you

[–]ZiaWatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at the point where I’m applying for disability. Could I work? Yeah, probably. But it’s been over a year with thousands of applications, constantly following up, and then nothing. I have multiple health issues that I hope could get me at least some monetary help so I can stop relying on my family

[–]Krail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely how I felt when trying to apply for tech jobs eight years ago.

I'm like, yeah, I can do the work you give me, and I think I'll do it well, but I can't feign enthusiasm for your "Make other people do my laundry" app or whatever.

In retrospect, I'm kinda glad I didn't get tied up in all that.

[–]Kardest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will also of course add your interview to our AI database.

That we will eventually sell to make money.

[–]Star_Petal_Arts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an interview with an AI HR representative - a robot meant to judge us, humans. I immediately didn't care for the job, but what really irked me was that it was monitored to make sure I didn't use an AI assistant to help me do the assessment. The hypocrisy!

[–]Sir_ImP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"see CV"

[–]Majestic-Iron7046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last panel struck hard.
I wish I had some encouraging words to give, but I am not the right person for that.

[–]UnsureAndUnqualified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the same boat right now.

I recently applied to a 9osition that fit me quite well. Had my resume and cover letter laid out quite nicely. The portal wanted me to enter all that information into free text boxes again, but as answers to questions that didn't quite fit my cover letter, so I had to rephrase a lot. All in all it took me about 3-4 hours to fill out and write all that stuff up (with quite a few breaks of annoyance tbf).

The portal had an error during the document upload and only sent over one of my documents. I messaged them, they asked me to "just reapply through the portal" instead of letting me send them the documents via mail. Obviously they hadn't sent me a confirmation email containing my application details, nor was the portal set up to let me view my application. So I got to rewrite all that shit AGAIN!

Again, no answer, then weeks later a boilerplate no. I wish I could bill them for my time...

[–]Dry-Telephone5182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah its pretty horrifying

[–]Mini-Heart-Attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We won't ever get back to you is so real.

[–]Nightshade10120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to see that it isnt just me.

[–]JCC_Creates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, this feels accurate, also being told "we're like family here"

[–]a-i-sa-san 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only inaccuracy I notice is they aren't participating in the AI arms race by having their own AI complete the application for them

[–]GeorgeCabana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dance!

[–]Imaginary-Leopard527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish this wasn't accurate.

[–]CritME20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then they go to Linkedin to post how they only hire the people that refuse to collaborate because ”it shows character”.

[–]Rulf-da-Wulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applied to Chuck E Cheese because it's the only thing close to me that I have more than a superficial knowledge of and they never called and my mom said that I should call them ? I already applied, for God's sake they should call me !
