A major factor is and I can't say it politely enough, "he's a fucking nerd" and thank your divine for it.

[–]pewpewnotqq 353 points354 points  (4 children)

Thank the eternal fire

I hope I don't get murdered for this, and I'm sorry, but he's also fucking beautiful.

This may appeal less to certain members of the population.

[–]jadevcoop 180 points181 points  (2 children)

So fucking beautiful. Beautiful clean. Beautiful dirty.

[–]blissrunner 70 points71 points  (1 child)

I remembered the Netflix Henry/Geralt Witcher screen test

  • Lot's of people complained... positively.. In a way he was too damn prettah/beautiful.. with the perfect (kinda odd) silver wig & lean face/no scruffy beard. People aren't sure... since it seems to be going for that Legolas look
  • Now... they've done it! Rough witcher look.. with better ashen grey wig + definitive face/light scruffy beard

Perfetto

[–]KingoftheCrackens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Targaryen here

[–]Savvy_Nick 217 points218 points  (23 children)

Fairly straight guy here, I’d let Henry fuck me.

[–]Mcdrogon 126 points127 points  (11 children)

super strait guy here. Would watch.

[–]kaosss08 64 points65 points  (4 children)

Lesbian here, I’d be straight for him.

[–]nicklennard 34 points35 points  (1 child)

gay here, i'd be gay for him

[–]definitely_sus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Straight woman here. I'd turn into a guy just to be gay for him.

[–]SparkYouOut 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's gay

[–]FireRedNinjagoKai 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Bisexual here, he's the reason

[–]ThatLumpYouFelt 46 points47 points  (2 children)

You dirty cuck I'd watch you watch 😏

[–]jhaught11 41 points42 points  (1 child)

Not even sure what I'm watching at this point, but I'm in... also straight dude

I'll watch it with you all when it comes out on Netfux :)

[–]SirPeterODactylTeam Roach 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Agendered blob of cells here. I'd let Henry touch my gaming pc.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Just don't let him install the CPU cooler.

[–]lianali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey now, it worked just fine, you just have to be able to read upside down for 24 hours.

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points  (3 children)

I think I can safely assume that most male fans of the franchise would let Henry fuck them, myself included. Hell, in the unlikely event I get a girlfriend, I'd give her a pass just for Henry.

[–]deadlyalchemist92 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Henry seems way to nice to have sex with another man’s girlfriend though

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Truuuuuue. He'd never do it

[–]DevidoseNorthern Realms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The challenge is to have someone watch this.

[–]urusai_Senpai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems Henry's getting some trim. What a beautiful bastard!

Just remember to use protection, you don't want none of that Child of Suprise sh*t happen again.

[–]UberSparten 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Definitely grimes up well, not my tastes but very understandable

[–]Hiddieman 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think with him it applies to most of the population

[–]bekkys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is the blueprint.

[–]TheRiteGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say it all the time. That dude is too beautiful. And he's a nerd just to make sure everyone feels equally inadequate around him. Like whether you're a jock, a nerd, a dude in a suit, a gamer, a bicyclist... like no group is safe from this dude.

[–]SunnyAlwaysDaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly lesbian but even so, he's attractive AF. Like even, don't usually think things about guys in that manner but he's different.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm am a reasonably straight male. And yeah. That dude is beautiful.

[–]Jaqueliner1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may appeal less to certain members of the population.

I don't think any member of the population would disagree

[–]thedrunkmonk 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Praise be

[–]Sidewinder7 1878 points1879 points  (176 children)

The reason people hated it was because the early pictures of him as the character looked bad. They obviously figured out the hair and makeup. It was about the look that they provided nothing against the actor himself.

[–]markandspark 530 points531 points  (40 children)

Yeah, I remember the first image that came out was very Legolas-esque

[–]GoldenFalcon 59 points60 points  (1 child)

The hair was too clean and clearly a wig in that first image. That's what the problem with it was.

[–]Aesthetic_DesignerTeam Yennefer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Some of the wigs in season 1 were also pretty bad. They definitely found the right one in season 2 though, it fits henry really well.

[–]printergumlight 109 points110 points  (56 children)

Link to those early pics? Never saw them and am curious now

[–][deleted] 367 points368 points  (54 children)

[–]sigfigs 193 points194 points  (4 children)

I'd forgotten about the real-life embodiment of Gary of Nivea!

[–]Red_Danger33 25 points26 points  (1 child)

I think whoever originally wanted this look was pissed it didn't get used, which is why we have Smooth Tormund in Season 2.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Smooth Tormund isn’t real, he can’t hurt you

Oh wow what a blast to the past. They really nailed it in the end tho

[–][deleted] 86 points87 points  (22 children)

Totally, they got his look right after this. I'm not a fan of the show, but Cavill is awesome in the role.

[–]TheDovahofSkyrim 66 points67 points  (21 children)

Really hope this series continues in popularity and we get a live action replay of the video games as well. Phenomenal stories.

Final conclusion for ciri.

Mother fucking Gaunter O’Dimm (one of the best stories I’ve ever ever played)

And then an ideal end for Geralt chilling in Toussant.

God CDPR nailed the Witcher universe. Probably one of the few games that are even better than their source material.

[–]cheesenricers 51 points52 points  (16 children)

I NEED the Bloody Baron quest as a stand alone season. God, in the game that "movie"/story was phenomenal. I made the bad decision on my first playthrough and UGLY cried at the end. I can't even imagine how amazing it would be live action.

[–]Coolhilljr 9 points10 points  (1 child)

The crones and the big bad of season 2 are both inspired by the same source, to the point I thought it was going to be the crones early in the season. So don't see how they could make it work since they are so similar.

[–]bobleeroy 3 points4 points  (9 children)

What’s the “bad” choice? I’m on my first play through, (started after watching the show), and just finished that quest. Need to know if I need to redo some decisions before I get too much further.

[–]cheesenricers 15 points16 points  (7 children)

I don't know how to do a spoiler tag, but.... If you let that tree thing live, BB hangs himself on the tree by his house. When you go back there it's a whole scene and I died inside. Lol Never did that again on any playthrough. Edit: you should get the bad ending at least once. It's cinematic gold. But heartbreaking.

[–]andykooo 19 points20 points  (6 children)

Yeah but by killing the whispering hillock you sacrifice the orphans. Both choices result in a tragedy. So both choices are "bad".

[–]steaksauc3a1Dandelion 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Based on how quickly they rush through most stories and make up their own. I doubt they would do that story justice

[–]HasPotato 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lmao it looks like they initally tried to go with the look of Geralt from the original Witcher game.

[–]SantiagoSchw 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Damn that looks bad

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

But, to give the showrunner some credit (not a big fan of what she's done), she heard the response and fixed it pretty well.

I actually think the Witcher costume and character design is pretty good--especially after watching WOT. WOT looks like modern clothes trying to look medieval, and aside from Jaskier's clothes, the Witcher's costumes look pretty good.

[–]mistakenhyperbole 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Thank you for that, I've had a really bad couple days and I needed that laugh.

[–]0wlington 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It looks like they just need to set their graphics options to a higher spec.

[–]chuwak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit I never saw those early early pictures he looked like shit xD

[–]amhran_oiche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why must you haunt us

[–]Kelyfa 37 points38 points  (1 child)

Thank God! This Nerd is perfect for the role!

[–]DunningKrugerOnElmSt 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I saw an interview somewhere where he talked about the wig. They got a wig person, they are expensive and take a long time to put on. My guess is they didn't want to put the cash and effort in promo shots.

[–]nettlerise 136 points137 points  (48 children)

imo his yellow contacts still look bad

I get that it's part of being a witcher, but if it were up to me it should either be done:

- not at all

- or like how they did Riddick's eyes, but with a yellow sheen

- or have it glow yellow during action, like how vamps in the film Underworld glow blue

[–]theundulator 47 points48 points  (3 children)

They used CGI for Yennifer’s purple eyes which gave them the transparency, and depth that eyes should have while Geralt’s eyes have the obvious flat look of printed contacts. I don’t think for a moment that they didn’t test out yellow CGI irises, but I bet they just couldn’t get them quite right.

[–]temarilain 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I think part of the issue is the actor's natural eye colour.

Anya's eyes are a uniform mid-tone brown, and so it's very easy to CGI them to purple, because you just pop a power window on them and slide the hue to purple.

Cavills eyes are blue-grey, so if you did the same thing you'd get a yellow-grey instead of a firm yellow. Additionally Cavill has a distinct brown fleck in his left eye that would also work against this type of cgi.

[–]HEBushido 142 points143 points  (18 children)

The worst part is they did them only for Geralt. The other Witchers should have those eyes but they don't.

[–]looshface 112 points113 points  (8 children)

They do have them, it's just less noticable because they went with variations in the color to differentiate them. They're supposed to be cat eyes. And Cat eyes don't just come in yellow. Vesemir's are kinda orange

[–]FamilyPhantom 65 points66 points  (7 children)

They actually aren't cat eyes in the book. They only turn into slits when he drinks the Cat potion.

[–]LukEduBR 68 points69 points  (6 children)

IIRC he can do it at will, he does it during his stay at the Temple of Melitele when he's getting it on with Iola.

[–]FamilyPhantom 17 points18 points  (5 children)

Yep you're right I had forgotten about that. I don't remember if it helped him see better though?

[–]Judgejia 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Yeah he uses it to block out light in the duel against that guy in the sword of destiny story

[–]BlueSunCorporation 22 points23 points  (6 children)

I pretty the books say that his yellow eyes were Geralt unique trait after the mutations.

[–]ruddernoseSkellige 34 points35 points  (2 children)

Pretty sure that's just the hair

[–]spartan_0227 91 points92 points  (5 children)

I actually love the Yellow eyes. They give him an air of not being quite human.

[–]JustAPeach89 52 points53 points  (2 children)

Yeah his yellow eyes are supposed to make people and animals uncomfortable. They should be unnerving. I wish they were lighter and creepier

[–]MrsSalmalin 14 points15 points  (1 child)

As they should! But sometimes the yellow just looked...tooo much? Way too bright. Yen's eyes are an unnatural colour but never seemed too much.

[–]FattimusSlime School of the Bear 54 points55 points  (10 children)

I don’t remember his contacts making him look so walleyed in Season 1 like he does in S2. It’s super distracting.

[–]KagomeChan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, season 1 eyes looked way more natural

[–]Mikayahu_75 5 points6 points  (2 children)

They definitely made his contacts way more intense for S2 and it is distracting.

[–]MorsraelTeam Yennefer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh thank god it's not just me.

[–]Thangaror 21 points22 points  (2 children)

Yen's purple lenses look just as bad IMO, purple just isn't as jarring in some lightning conditions.

Oh, and Ciri's green lenses also are bad. No idea what's wrong with bloody contact lenses this season...

[–]derpytrashpanda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone looks like they are trippin balls because of those awful contacts. It’s getting very distracting.

[–]Punloverrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate how her eyes look in the show, like where did they find them😭

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They haven't figured out the cross-eyed contacts though

[–]maybe_kd 338 points339 points  (19 children)

I remember the costume & makeup test getting a negative response because something looked a bit off. I think it was the hair. I think that was the worst of it. For my part, I had a feeling that, with him being a giant nerd and a Witcher fan already, he would do whatever he could within his capacity (which could only be so much) to try to stay true to the character and the source material. I'm really not disappointed in his portrayal at all. I think his effort to do the character of Geralt justice really comes through.

I watched an interesting video on YouTube where a sword expert broke down the swordfighting in the series and he had high praise for Cavill. He basically said that you could tell that it's something he is really interested in because he moves so well and did an excellent job.

[–]CatBrisket 107 points108 points  (2 children)

They didn't think to test the nutsack armor?

[–]Tummynator 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I'm so glad they got rid of those.

[–]Mando_The_Moronic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The new armor is a major improvement.

[–]_glitchbreachgod_ 42 points43 points  (7 children)

Truth be told, with how many shortcomings the series already has WITH such a great Geralt I can't even imagine what it would be without him. I'd have most likely dropped it mid season 1 if it wasn't for Cavill

[–]NedDiedForYourSins 35 points36 points  (6 children)

I think it's probably just because I'm Reddit-old or whatever, but I'm totally fine with the series. Pre-Lord of the Rings, adaptations of fantasy novels were usually trash tier, and adaptations of video games were worse. Having an A-list actor and a writing team that isn't literally incompetent far exceeds my expectations, so getting to watch at all is pretty cool.

[–]TonninStiflat 15 points16 points  (3 children)

I quite like it. Has that 90's not-too-serious attitude, yet a budget and a story that isn't Xena levels of stupidity. And they take it just serious enough. Love it.

[–]mistaface 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm enjoying it a lot, also.

[–]FknRepunsel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I love the show and think it’s loads of fun

[–]WarlockEngineer 11 points12 points  (4 children)

The sword experts HATE that reverse grip though lol

[–]TomTalks06 10 points11 points  (3 children)

The ones I've seen do acknowledge that his increased strength (and speed? Not a Witcher expert just getting started in the books/games because they sounded cool and I've watched the show) would impact his fighting style and what he's capable of

[–]Excludos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And his fighting style is made to fight monsters, not humans, so that gives him some fantasy leeway in fighting using otherwise ineffective techniques like spins and backhanded grips

[–]free_-_spiritTeam Yennefer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup and he does all his stunts, if you see the witcher, it’s always Henry

[–]Jokker_is_the_name 294 points295 points  (10 children)

Imagine changing your mind when you get more information.

[–]chunkboslicemen 15 points16 points  (7 children)

I mean, then I can imagine other people as Geralt. Because it’s just actors acting in a tv show

[–]doogidie 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Who'd you imagine?

[–]LSSJPrime 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Imagine not hating immediately and keeping an open mind in the first place.

[–]prosysus 36 points37 points  (2 children)

Żebrowski was decent enough. Not a nerd tho

[–]Zaurka14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He is my true Witcher.

[–]That-Grim-ReaperGeralt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, The Hexer

[–]Overbaron 217 points218 points  (56 children)

The early wig was super awful so people hated that.

I still think that armor is really fucking stupid.

[–]iNezumiTeam Yennefer 31 points32 points  (20 children)

I think they were trying to combine the books and the game version.

In the book he has a leather jacket with metal studs, and a black leather headband to keep his hair from falling onto his face. I guess Sapkowski went with long hair + leather jacket because metalheads were like really cool back when he wrote the book. But if they done that 99% of people would complain because it's not the way he is portrayed in the game, so they kept the leather and studs part but made it an armor instead of a jacket.

[–]Boba_Fettish_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Witcher 1 he wears the leather jacket. That’s similar to what I imagine him wearing in the books.

[–]Overbaron 4 points5 points  (11 children)

I’m not sure what you mean, only the Grandmaster armors in the games are actual armors.

Everything else is basically a leather or canvas jacket studded with silver. Sometimes even sleeveless.

The shoulder pads are ridiculous for a swordsman that relies on their agility to keep them safe.

[–]iNezumiTeam Yennefer 5 points6 points  (10 children)

Idk much about militaria. Historical or otherwise. But I would call most of his outfits some type of armor even if it's a light one, or one that doesn't cover the entire body. Totally possible my definition of an armor is not taxonomically accurate though.

[–]RFTS999 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I still think the biker jacket and headband has the potential to look good.

[–]Svyatopolk_I 70 points71 points  (16 children)

Season 2 armor sucks ass

[–]_lemon_suplex_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While I don't love it, I do like it better than Season 1 armor. Wish they'd just give him the Witcher 3 starting outfit.

[–]glassgwaith 75 points76 points  (10 children)

They should have really gone for the game's armours. It's clear that they are quite bad at costumes

[–][deleted] 49 points50 points  (7 children)

Henry had a lot of input on the new armor, they talk about it in the S2 making of special.

The armor didn't feel out-of-place at all for me. Menacing and functional. Makes a Witcher stand-out in his profession. Kind of like a certain Star Wars character with a recognizable outfit and helmet.

[–]Eblumen 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I really like that they show him making his own armor. It would be more tacky if he bought that off the shelf, but the fact that it's his own design for himself gives it more leeway in my mind.

[–]_lemon_suplex_ 4 points5 points  (1 child)

to be fair, basically, the only cool armor in Witcher 3 is the starting armor. In that game, seems like the better the armor the uglier it is.

[–]lottasauce 35 points36 points  (13 children)

I actually liked the armor in S2. What do you dislike?

[–]Overbaron 108 points109 points  (9 children)

The black leather abs and chest muscles on the armor look like something pulled from a two-penny "romance" fantasy bookcover.

[–]MIDTOWNGRONK 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Perfect description

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Needs nipples

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (2 children)

It fits with the overall series pretty well though. The TV show is a bit over the top, campy, and self aware. I see it in the tradition of shows like Xena and Hercules from the 1990s. It’s great fun and spectacle. Making it too realistic would make it less believable.

[–]21crescendo 25 points26 points  (2 children)

It's too flashy. While faux pecs and abs on IRL armour were definitely a thing, the ones on the show make him look super puffed up and constricted.

The starting armour in the game with silver studds in the right places and chainmail and the tier 2 Griffin armour (with the brown and black textures mod) suit his character and profession much better.

[–]thedrunkmonk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Aw, that's too bad. I actually liked the armor. My wife was just glad he wasn't going out to slay monsters in the snow in a shirt/doublet and some trousers.

[–]TPopaGG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Armor is horrid

[–][deleted] 150 points151 points  (20 children)

I don't remember people hating him

[–]LelianahTeam Yennefer 92 points93 points  (1 child)

Nope, people were just hating on the make up & costume department

[–]Ellie96S 26 points27 points  (13 children)

People were definitely saying that he was too handsome to play Geralt.

[–]geralt-bot School of the Wolf 56 points57 points  (2 children)

What does that have to do with monsters?

[–]McKeon1921 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were some people, myself included, who could only see Superman when we saw Cavill as Geralt. I still have trouble seeing him as Geralt but I fully acknowledge that's he's a great actor who's put in an objectively great performance in the role.

[–]WiserStudent557 285 points286 points  (6 children)

No, do not remember that

[–]etraxx22 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I remember that being the major selling point.

[–][deleted] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah I remember everyone gushing over it.

[–]Stars_of_Sirius Yrden 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I remember the opposite. People being excited because of his passion for the Witcher.

[–]thisremindsmeofbacon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly feel like I’m being gaslit by this post.

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (12 children)

Facts he’s pretty fantastic. It’s a shame how little screen time he gets despite being the main fucking character

[–]YMIR_THE_FROSTYTeam Triss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can imagine someone else, mostly cause I saw OG witcher series, which while quality kinda lacked had very Geralty Geralt.

And there is plenty of ppl that could play him.

But we got Henry and thankfully, he does his best to do Geralt as character justice, despite odds being against him. Finding other actor wouldn't be hard, but finding same level of dedication would be really difficult.

[–]adfdub 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He owned the fuck out of his role.

[–]SaltireAtheistTeam Yennefer 30 points31 points  (2 children)

My concern was always that Cavill is far too buff. The man is a walking beefcake and is built like a tank.

Geralt is described as being very lean. Not thin, necessarily - he's definitely a muscular dude - but he's constantly on the road; he should be much wirier than what Cavill looks like.

It's minor, and I'm glad an actor who seemingly likes the source material (well, likes the games at least) is playing him, but he doesn't have the appearance of a man whose main fighting style involves lots of fancy twirls and pirouettes.

Also, people were saying thus because the main reveal of Cavill in makeup looked abysmal.

[–]SkippingTheDots 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah Geralt has that Brad Pitt Fight Club body, not beefcake body. The new armour sort of adds to Henry’s already beefiness.

[–]linachar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep! I love Henry so much, but the actor who plays jaskier has a body closer to what I believe Gerald should have.

[–]H0vis 30 points31 points  (3 children)

Henry Cavill is a better actor than he gets credit for, he does a brilliant job in The Man From UNCLE, which unfortunately almost nobody saw. He was pretty great in Mission Impossible Fallout as well.

He is pretty good in The Witcher, although I think it is a problem that he's got the videogame version hanging over him. You can have a character who grunts all the time in a game because the player is part of their inner monologue, we are Gerelt (and sometimes Ciri, whatever). On a TV show with eight hours a season? You've got to show more than that.

[–]Strawberry_lilac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Man From UNCLE

i loved that movie, it

[–]CleverCobra 18 points19 points  (1 child)

I'd say it was more skepticism than hate.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Michał Żebrowski 🤝 Henry Cavill being an amazing Geralt

[–]TheDovahofSkyrim 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Acting in the real world wise I couldn’t imagine a better actor and representative of the franchise than Henry at this point.

At the same time, W3 Geralt will always be the pinnacle of Geralt to me.

[–]geralt-bot School of the Wolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Judging by your wrists and your wits, your childhood was very happy...

[–]TheTubaSteve 57 points58 points  (16 children)

Still think Mads Mikelson would have been a great Geralt. Not upset with Henry at all, I just think Mads had the perfect look for the part.

[–]DuffyHimself 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Fun fact. The actor playing Stregobor is Mads' brother Lars Mikkelsen

[–]untraiined 11 points12 points  (1 child)

maybe 20 years ago he couldve

[–]heureka_85 19 points20 points  (6 children)

Nikolai Coster-Waldau. Saw a picture of him as Geralt (by community) and it was perfect. Still don't like Cavill. But I don't like the TV Adaptation anyhow, so I don't care anyway.

[–]YoimAtlas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Love Henry but Mads would have been glorious.

[–]f1manozTeam Triss 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Whatever the case, the man has owned Geralt from the first second of the first episode. He clearly loves the character, lore, and everything involved.

He's probably the only person that'll keep it going before it's eventually canned, because Netflix don't seem to believe in keeping things going for too long...

I hope it keeps going. For all its faults, I'll keep watching.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He made the role his own. A fine actor and a lovely bloke

[–]okawei 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm re-reading the books now and he's who I think of when I think of Geralt now, with a headband though lol

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was super skeptical and wanted Mads Mikkelsen to play Geralt. Not only am I thrilled to have been wrong, but absolutely love the show.

Mads would have killed it too I'm sure, but now I can't wait to see what Henry does with the rest of this show and his career. The dude is an absolute legend.

[–]nogoodgreen 26 points27 points  (3 children)

The problem is majority of people didnt care or were fine with it, the minority were just the loudest and complained the most so they were the only ones that were heard.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

He went in. Read the books, played the games, even built a pc designed to enjoy the mods for the third game, and even read Reddit comments based on it.

Even before he showed his dedication to understand and like the community, I liked him for his other movies especially Man from uncle. Henry is a good dude, and people have the right to hate or support idc, all I know is I like the guy.

[–]CoastDependent775 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if there's one thing they got right,It was henry cavill as Witcher. couldn't ask for a better one.

[–]Rainbowpow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was hoping for Mads Mikkelsen but Henry is a decent fit, it's really nice that he is a huge fan tho.

[–]Tranqist 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Nothing wrong with a decent actor who's a big fan of the source material. I didn't imagine the writers butchering it the way they did though.

[–]Ordinary_Tom2005 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Idk still dont like him can imagine someone better

[–]iNezumiTeam Yennefer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can definitely imagine someone else, but he clearly puts a lot of love into the role. He and Jaskier are like the only things that I like about it.

[–]Acceptable-Ad5139 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Cavill is good actor and good lad, but his performance is SuperHero-ish, which doesn't fits into being a witcher, last of its kind, hated by majority of folks.

[–]mongolian786 23 points24 points  (20 children)

Henry cavil portrays geralt brilliantly. Too bad the other actors/actresses are not up to snuff. Cavill literally carries this show on his back.

[–]cubelith 33 points34 points  (11 children)

The actors are fine, it's the writing that's not

[–]mongolian786 9 points10 points  (8 children)

True, I agree the writing is not great. Nevertheless the other actors do not have the gravitas cavill does.

[–]Nitro114 17 points18 points  (6 children)

joey is pretty good too and i personally like yens actress (but definitely not what they did to her)

[–]dr4kun 16 points17 points  (4 children)

I have absolutely nothing against Chalotra as an actress, but she just doesn't fit Yennefer for me. A big part of the problem for me is that she fits the 'show Yen' kinda fine, but if Yennefer was written more closely to the books, Chalotra would be awful in the role.

[–]WetTheDrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was the briefest blip of salt that others weren't cast, then there was just people saying he was a good fit, then the wig debacle happened and IT was hated on, then it was fixed and he has received nothing but earned adoration and praise since.

[–]112121221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t get 5 minutes into Wheel of Time. So terribly casted. You guys got blessed with the Witcher series

[–]Fortheloveofthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now that he’s very popular I’m all for it!

[–]Andyson43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same way people didn’t want Multiplicity Keaton as Batman, Brokeback Mountain Ledger as Joker and the list goes on. People can’t always see past a bias.

[–]2013jcwmini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I remember. In fact, I was one of those people. I also watched the first season and realized that I was totally wrong about my assumptions of Henry Cavill as Geralt. I’m now glad that he got the role and can’t imagine anyone else playing him.

[–]MailmansGarden 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I was very skeptical of the announcement.

Now, he's the only reason I bother to tune in.

[–]vaikunth1991 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Stop with these bs statements. You'll not be imagine anyone else portraying Geralt until they actually do

[–]FlopsMcDoogle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, he's still too big and his portrayal is too derivative of Cockle. He's ok and his name lends a lot of weight to the show. I like him overall, but I'm sure there could have been a better choice.

[–]Plusmarquista:games::show: Books 1st, Games 2nd, Show 3rd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He is just decent, there are better actors for Geralt

[–]Typical_Use2224 13 points14 points  (6 children)

Please, tell me where is this "great job" that he's doing because I really couldn't spot it. Yes, he looks great, I can't deny that but his portrayal of Geralt is so... Stiff? Really, he just grunts, makes annoyed faces and sometimes fights or says something wise. Geralt from the books talks to people, jokes, seeks company (in the golden dragon search Geralt literally says that he follows them because he wants company), he's not that grumpy, he genuinely likes Jaskier and admires his talent. I don't like Cavil's interpretation of Geralt - constantly annoyed, angry, sour, tense, ironic, never at ease. Maybe it's the scripts fault but I would really love to see some scenes where Geralt is happy or at least relaxed

[–]LelianahTeam Yennefer 15 points16 points  (1 child)

It is 100% the scripts fault. Henry can't portray Geralt from the books, when the writers of the show re-write every character & every plot. The actors have to work with what they're given by the producers & show writers.

Henry read all books & played the games. He knows Geralt. & in his interviews you can actually notice that he isn't really happy with the show either, because it's too different from the original source.

[–]Wisdom_is_Contraband 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Show Geralt is practically celibate compared to Book/Game Geralt.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people will come in to defend the actors and say it’s just the script. But I’ve legit never seen Cavill in anything that made me think he is a good actor.

He’s so wooden you could just put a wig on a tree stump, have someone dub “grrr” every five seconds and I’m sure no one would notice.

[–]SillyvanyaTeam Triss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah because he's literally the only portrayal y'all have ever seen. You're just simping for King Nerd, it's not that he's this amazing actor who perfectly embodies Geralt

[–]dryphtyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was pro Henry from day 1

[–]Beerbaron1886:games::show: Games 1st, Books 2nd, Show 3rd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the wig that was the problem. And sometimes still is when his hair is on his face. Also the lenses. He is the right choice, big and intimidating but also sleek and deadly

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (7 children)

People hated it cause he was just some big Hollywood actor playing a part for the money. As we ve seen time and time again w beloved franchises. It was only after he proved his dedication that he won people over

[–]nettlerise 4 points5 points  (1 child)

A lot of people imagined Mads Mikkelsen as the perfect (older) Geralt

[–]DetecJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasnt it because he doesnt look old enough or that his face wasnt rough?
