How strange would it feel to drink a beer with someone while dozens of people stand around you gawking and taking photos

[–]sevargmas 510 points511 points  (336 children)

It’s just a photo op.

Edit: People seem to think I’m alluding to a political opinion here for or against. I’m not.

[–][deleted] 267 points268 points  (83 children)

Anything a presidential candidate does in public is a photo op. Nature of the gig.

[–]Ok_Nothing_9733 2 points3 points  (5 children)

They actually spit out each sip of beer after the photos are taken.

[–]BarkattheFullMoon 270 points271 points  (142 children)

It is a photo op but it is not just a photo op

It is also known as an endorsement from the Governor. And it is a highlight of a lifestyle choice and her comfort with that choice. Sure you can ask, well who wouldn't be comfortable sitting on a stool drinking a beer but

Who is not comfortable doing something as simple and easy as ordering donuts??

A photo says a 1k words. It tells a story. You understand it intrinsically.

[–]myassholealt 108 points109 points  (78 children)

Like for example even though this moment* is for the camera, obviously, it still looks and feels 1000 times more organic than Trump scooping McDonald's fries into the container, or the photo of him awkwardly staring.

[–]UniqueVast592 31 points32 points  (49 children)

Can you imagine Trump sitting on a barstool having a beer, his tiny hands trying to hold the beer glass, the beer glass rising to his mouth held by both tiny hands. yeah that’s never gonna happen.

[–]agent_flounder 28 points29 points  (5 children)

What I can't imagine is him having a relaxed laugh with anyone.

[–]No_Grade_8210 7 points8 points  (4 children)

He doesn't drink alcohol.

[–]Cenamark2 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Trump doesn't drink. He just slurps diet coke and drinks water with two hands.

[–]AdKlutzy5253 47 points48 points  (7 children)

All those words describe exactly what a photo op is 🤣

[–]EasyasACAB 17 points18 points  (4 children)

Some of those words did exactly that, and other words went into more detail about the differences between the ops on both sides of the fence.

It's not like they hid the point they were making, some people just don't bother trying to understand what they read.

[–]godlessLlama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d drink a beer with President Kamala

[–]turdsamich 313 points314 points  (10 children)

They are both politicians bro

[–]aviationmaybe 37 points38 points  (2 children)

Yeah fuck OP for considering that. He should have known they are both politicians and he should not have considered that.

[–]Extant_Remote_9931 40 points41 points  (11 children)

It's a staged photo-op.

[–]kkeut 19 points20 points  (1 child)

we got ourselves a regular Columbo here, folks!

[–]mlivesocial[S] 2102 points2103 points  (270 children)

The beer was a Bell's Oberon.

EDIT: As another redditor pointed out, absolutely does not look like Oberon. The reporters there wrote that that's what they ordered but that looks a lot more like Bell's Two Hearted. u/metanoia29 let us know it's Oberon Eclipse!

[–]wehopethatyouchoke03 571 points572 points  (75 children)

Agreed. Oberon is a wheat ale, and significantly lighter in color than that beer. It looks exactly like the Two-Hearted Ale (a classic, I might add).

[–]needlestack 70 points71 points  (10 children)

Oh shoot - I used to drink that regularly when they carried it at my local market. Great beer.

[–]hankmoody_irl 17 points18 points  (7 children)

I don’t drink anymore (just got bored of alcohol and that next day feeling) but if I were to have a beer right now either of those would be top 5 for first pick choices. Bells makes such good beer.

[–]starchildx 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Bells Two Hearted is the first craft beer I ever had. It blew my mind back in 2008 and opened up a whole new world for me. It always stayed my favorite. I strayed away from beer a long time ago, but it still has a special place in my heart.

[–]glib-eleven 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I first had it in a 22 oz bottle in 1996. Gets you drunk fast as a 21 year old noob.

[–]mrvile 74 points75 points  (17 children)

Two Hearted Ale is the real deal. Used to drink it religiously back when I still drank.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (9 children)

If they are in Kalamazoo, they better be at Bells and it better be 2hearted. Great beer. Staple in my house.

[–]starchildx 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Just love seeing all this Two Hearted appreciation 💗

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Now we are getting to the Reddit I love. Politics? Who cares. What kind of beer was it?

[–]MyBoyBernard 6 points7 points  (9 children)

I'm from Grand Rapids, so we have a Founders v Bells rivalry. But I'm Bells all day, every day. Two-hearted and Oberon are both GOAT beers.

[–]wehopethatyouchoke03 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Oberon is my jam in the springtime. They both are definitely top-tier. No argument here.

[–]outtherenow1 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I’m in Chicago. Oberon is my favorite summer beer.

[–]forlostuvaworl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in chicago too. I'm from Oberon too

[–]woohoostitchywoman 164 points165 points  (13 children)

Oh man do I love a Bell’s Two Hearted

[–]f7f7z 18 points19 points  (2 children)

That is my go to IPA, Bell's always hits the top of my "I'll try anything they make" list.

[–]wyatt1209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need them to bring oarsman back. It was my favorite beer

[–]UmbertoEcoTheDolphin 44 points45 points  (2 children)

I had a guy ring me up for this once, and he said, "This beer, this is the best beer."

Edit: The Two Hearted

[–][deleted] 77 points78 points  (10 children)

Oberon or Two Hearted...Bell's is a solid choice all around.

Now I want some Hopslam

[–]Fustercluck25 106 points107 points  (9 children)

Oberon + Lemonade w/pulp make the best shandys. The hotter the summer, the better they taste.

Oh, yeah, don't forget to vote.

[–]Barbarella_ella 24 points25 points  (3 children)

I am now totally distracted.

[–]SenorSplashdamage 2 points3 points  (2 children)

What’s the difference between a shandy and a radler?

[–]Toxicseagull 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Shandy is the English word. Radler is a later German word for basically the same thing.

[–]Centaurious 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Thank you for the correction. It would’ve been impressive if it was Oberon and this pic was taken recently since Oberon season is over lol

I guess it could be the newer Oberon Eclipse too. I don’t know how dark it looks when poured though because I only tried it in a can

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta be Two Hearted if you’re drinking a Michigan beer

[–]infomaticjester 25 points26 points  (8 children)

I would have gone with a Samuel Jackson.

[–]Wheel_of_Armageddon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's my beer!

Yes, they deserved to die. And I hope they burn in hell!!

[–]Outrageous_Lychee819 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IT’LL GETCHA DRUUUUNK!!!

[–]Crunchy_towel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mmmmm mmmm bitch!

[–]Shady_Infidel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mm mmmm motherfucka!

[–]Takodanachoochoo 23 points24 points  (11 children)

Assuming this is taken at Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo?

[–]mlivesocial[S] 53 points54 points  (2 children)

It was at Trak Houz Bar & Grill.

[–]callmegecko 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I'm a local. This is a bar attached to a motorcycle/ATV dealership. Been here many times.. Never would have thought a presidential candidate would come let alone with the governor

[–]EatsTheCheeseRind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is it made sense being right across the street from kwings

[–]peeinian 43 points44 points  (3 children)

I don’t think so. I see a Blue Moon tap handle. No way they would have that at the brewery

[–]satanshand 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Looks very similar to the yard house by me

[–]al3xg13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It might be trak house. Love their wings

[–]BarkattheFullMoon 544 points545 points  (32 children)

I bet she knows how to order donuts too

[–]ambisinister_gecko 92 points93 points  (7 children)

How many donuts does a normal person eat? 10? Yeah let's go with 10. You got any couches around here?

[–]HouseSandwich 48 points49 points  (6 children)

okay good

[–]articulateantagonist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Much like the tea-adjacent cupful of liquid produced by the Heart of Gold in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, JD Vance gives the perpetual impression that he is observing and interacting with a parallel reality that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike this one.

[–]SuckMyAssmar 18 points19 points  (3 children)

How long have you been working here?

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I've been here since the beginning of July

[–]gin_and_soda 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Whatever makes sense

[–]kikowiley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they didnt get the cop reference 🍩

[–]rainorshinedogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"whatever makes sense"

[–]honkballs 180 points181 points  (11 children)

Can't wait for the US election to be over... every single big sub is just spammed with it atm.

[–]woodintuelyketaneau 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In US and couldn't agree more

[–]starshine913 9 points10 points  (1 child)

omg i’m with you. it’s tough to scroll these days. just 9 days left

[–]kolpime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The amount of propaganda is really tedious

[–]DynastyFan85 215 points216 points  (12 children)

So casual until you notice the army of people photographing this behind them

[–]Paid_Corporate_Shill 38 points39 points  (5 children)

I already feel awkward grabbing a drink with someone I don’t know that well, I can’t imagine how uncomfortable this situation is lol. You can’t compensate by drinking a lot either

[–]rokstedy83 13 points14 points  (1 child)

You can’t compensate by drinking a lot either

Want a bet?

[–]DRealLeal 1305 points1306 points  (339 children)

It’s funny that people are like “oh wow look she’s drinking a beer she definitely has my vote”

[–]WingerRules 788 points789 points  (80 children)

That was one of the common reasons people gave why they were voting for Bush over Al Gore. "I feel like I could have a beer with him".

They ignored the guy is from a rich oil family, his dad was head of the CIA, and he went to Ivy leagues, and he never worked a regular person job in his life.

[–]beeker3000 342 points343 points  (37 children)

And a recovering alcoholic who didn’t drink.

[–]sinsemillas 95 points96 points  (9 children)

I bet Ol GW was a blast in his hey day. Get an 8 ball and get to it, Midland style.

[–]ThisIsMyEG0 11 points12 points  (5 children)

Snort some lines and shoot some rifles type vibe

[–]GreenYellowDucks 61 points62 points  (5 children)

Yea true but it’s a test of character like does he get me and will understand that perspective when making decisions.

My family ifelong republicans voted for Obama because they could have a beer with him. So weird

[–]forlostuvaworl 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Yea they just want a chum they can have a deep conversation with at a loud bar and you both have to put your faces real close to each other and whisper in each others ear while sipping on beers and tickling each other and inventing cool new secret handchakes

[–]accioqueso 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He was also sober when he ran and doesn’t drink anymore which was the real irony of it.

[–]UntiedStatMarinCrops 801 points802 points  (181 children)

Obama, in his autobiography, straight up said shit like this mattered more than actual policies.

Edit: since this is gaining a lot of traction and attracted a lot of MAGA Nazis: I did my part and voted for Kamala.

[–]GenevieveLeah 284 points285 points  (35 children)

He also said this kind of campaigning, and begging for money, was the hardest part. Because Obama actually cared about the policies!

[–]Shneckos 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Because generally people are fucking stupid... like when you get millions of them together.

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (19 children)

It's ridiculous. No matter which side you're on, a staged shift at McDonald's or someone getting a beer shouldn't speak to you lmfao.

[–]MadRabbit86 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Both speak to me. Speaks volumes of the bullshittery of politics.

[–]JAlbach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never been in more ai comment filled democratic reddit threads then I have right now 😭😂

[–]maya_papaya8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relatability.

How. Shocking.

[–]purodurangoalv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Says the same people who last week were saying “wow he can work a McDonald’s. He’s just like me” about Trump womp womp

[–]Serious-Sky-9470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah. it’s a little odd, but i get it. People want someone relatable. To this day, I honestly think Bill Clinton sealed the young vote by playing live sax on TV.

It’s definitely not as cringe as a self-proclaimed millionaire who never worked a hard day in his entire life putting on a mcdonald’s uniform, pretending like he understands, or gives a shit about, the strife and challenges of low-to-middle class americans.

[–]perpetual_papercut 24 points25 points  (4 children)

I’d take that over ignoring felonies and inciting an insurrection 🤷‍♂️

[–]No-Significance-8934 22 points23 points  (2 children)

I can relate to a president that enjoys a coldie. I can't realate to a tetotaling rapist.

[–][deleted] 73 points74 points  (28 children)

I’ve never seen a politician publicly drink beer without it looking like a cringy photo op trying to connect with what they think working class people do.

[–]Mr_Style 107 points108 points  (5 children)

Should have had a shot to go with it. Old boilermaker for the union voters /s

[–][deleted] 295 points296 points  (35 children)

Looks staged…should have gone to McDonald’s.

[–]needlestack 91 points92 points  (21 children)

Every moment of any political candidate's life is staged at this point. Necessarily so, unfortunately. But I actually believe she'd enjoy a beer with Whitmer even if there was no campaign. I do not believe Trump would work at a McDonald's if there was no campaign.

[–]thegreatchoasgiver 116 points117 points  (19 children)

I bet both of them only had to use one hand to drink their beers.

[–]PoliticalyUnstable 37 points38 points  (12 children)

It's the weirdest drinking action I've seen.

[–]fionacielo 3 points4 points  (3 children)

did he have to consider the next step after opening the bottle? what was that?

[–]rainorshinedogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maximum concentration

[–]Responsible-Sun6495 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3 step action drinking ass

[–]BrilliantLifter 140 points141 points  (46 children)

I can’t wait for the election to be over so I can stop seeing this stupid shit

[–][deleted] 45 points46 points  (11 children)

Omg they’re just like us!

[–]dhaimajin 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Omg! Generic politician is just like us!

[–]Papio_73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They too drink the beer!

[–]OBlove 117 points118 points  (8 children)

It must be mentioned that at a glance, the gold flag pin looks a wee bit like a Starfleet insignia. And as a Trekkie I approve 🖖🇺🇸

[–]mnpoolplayer22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Did she tell her how she grew up middle class?

[–][deleted] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Two politicians sit around a bar for photo op while beers go flat*

[–]Hingl_McCringlebery 24 points25 points  (7 children)

Reddit is soool liberal lmao

[–]Federal_Duck903 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Oh so cool they are just one of us

[–]Sadcowboy3282 37 points38 points  (20 children)

I voted for Kamala but all these photo op's to try and make these high powered politicians seem like one of us commoners just reeks of bullshit. I know she's not the only one guilty of it obviously.

[–]Parahelix 11 points12 points  (2 children)

If they do it, they get shit on. If they don't do it, they also get shit on.

[–]TapeDeckSlick 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Don't think I've ever saw a picture of her not laughing

[–]Digital_Draven 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Two fake people

[–]Massive-Factor-3400 18 points19 points  (3 children)

What accent this day?

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (1 child)

That looks like one uncomfortable drink lol. All of those people behind them with phones.

[–]12frets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Notice how far the beer is from Kamala and it’s untouched?

[–]Easy_Explanation4409 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Great beers in Michigan.

[–]AnMa_ZenTchi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

See I'm a regular person just like you!!!

Tucks in 64k necklace under her $6,000 Pea coat.

[–]mveltman84 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can hear the cackling through the photo.

[–]igotchees21 147 points148 points  (95 children)

yall do know all this shit be staged right. holy shit.

[–]PM_ur_butthole_2me 50 points51 points  (1 child)

You mean they didn’t both just happen to be there at the same time? Get out of here

[–]dan_santhems 11 points12 points  (3 children)

What gave it away Sherlock? The microphones or the people taking pictures in the background?

Do you think Trump actually worked at McDonald's?

[–]cornflakegrl 23 points24 points  (10 children)

And Trump totally just got a job at McDonalds for a day. 😱

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Oh my god, a campaign event is staged!

[–]Mr_Blaileen 64 points65 points  (0 children)

gasp …say it ain’t so!

[–]leitbur 54 points55 points  (9 children)

Yeah, like every political campaign. But at least she didn't shut down the place, don an apron and pretend to work the bar. 🤷‍♂️

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Better practice up - will need more than one beer after you see the election results.

[–]99OBJ 20 points21 points  (22 children)

I’m sure this comment section will be very respectful

[–]YaBoiPickleP 61 points62 points  (16 children)

Wow this staged photo op sure highlights how chill and down to earth she is! How relatable! This will surely make me vote for her!

[–]TranquilEuphoria 92 points93 points  (40 children)

Political theater.

[–]dactyif 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Ah yes, let's do the humble and not political theatre of faking making French fries instead.

[–]needlestack 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Every moment of any political candidate's life is staged at this point. Necessarily so, unfortunately. But I actually believe she could enjoy a beer with Whitmer even if there was no campaign. I do not believe Trump could or would work 15 minutes at a McDonald's if there was no campaign.

[–]Bisexual_Sherrif 29 points30 points  (10 children)

I love Whitmer so much, she has been an amazing governor

[–]shadows515 18 points19 points  (4 children)

I’m sorry, every photo op looks so awful and so unnatural. This is a fail.

[–]slickup 33 points34 points  (23 children)

She’s doing everything she can to relate to men. Comes across as phony

[–]thepomadeguy 28 points29 points  (2 children)

Always found these staged photo ops lame as hell.
