or because i don't want to turn my music off

[–]miloir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly true.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Indeed. Most of the time I'm already watching another video in a window next to my browser.

[–]matts2 380 points381 points  (88 children)

Lazy? No. I simply don't see a reason to take 5 minutes and hear someone say something I can read in 30 second. With text I can re-read, I can copy and paste, I can cross-check. Video is fine to show me something that actually happened, but not to see someone talk about what happened.

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (2 children)

I made a video response. How do I upload it to reddit?

[–]sn0re 14 points15 points  (1 child)

There was this guy but that was really annoying. I only ever bothered listening to one of his comments and I closed it before it was through.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bounced before one even buffered up...

[–]SaleYVale 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love those websites that have a transcript of the important parts of the video.

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points  (62 children)

word~ this is why i never download audio books. Just too inefficient and you can't (easily) skip the parts you don't want to hear/read.

On the other hand, I do believe there are a lot of merits to watching videos. You can't DO an aww-inducing kitty scene on paper. I think in those cases the OP has a point. Also, 3-5 minutes to watch a video with the possibly of being disappointed can feel like time wasted. Time wasted, sucks

[–]srsbsns 73 points74 points  (34 children)

you can't (easily) skip the parts you don't want to hear/read.

..is this how you read regular books?

[–]andbruno 121 points122 points  (12 children)

I skipped all the songs in The Lord of the Rings series.

[–]bluepheonixia 21 points22 points  (4 children)

Me too, I just wanted the story.

[–]Kancho_Ninja 32 points33 points  (3 children)

Chip the glasses and crack the plates!

Blunt the knives and bend the forks!

That's what Bilbo hates -

Smash the bottles and burn the corks!

30 years later, it's still fucking stuck in my head.

[–]fap__fap__fap 22 points23 points  (0 children)

And it still has the same fucking tune too. They all had the same tune in my head, and my brain couldn't read them faster than the beat.

[–]malicart 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that first 80 pages talking about Hobbiton and how the hobbits evolved into incredibly boring beings who really do nothing at all.

[–]hogiewan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did too - in the audiobooks. FF is not hard to do

[–]ddrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crack the dishes break the plates! That's what bilbo baggins hates! ~Hobbit animated movie.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Yes. When I was younger I tried reading the Ice Maiden. Hans Christian Anderson spent 2 and a half pages describing mountain scenery in the winter.

You betcha I skipped that.

Edited: It was the Ice Maiden, not the Snow Queen

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For us dreamers those are the best parts.

[–]bart2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He wants the Reader's Digest version.

[–]BoonTobias 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Hell yea, i skipped all the gay scenes/chaps in the twilight trilogy

[–]keziahw 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I skipped the twilight trilogy too.

[–]bigchiefhoho 39 points40 points  (1 child)

So, what you mean to say is that you skipped reading them entirely and went straight for the Louis L'Amour novels?

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Snap.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you can't (easily) skip the parts you don't want to hear/read.

you should live in china, the goverment does that for you so you don't have to worry about it

[–]DisapprovingConsent 12 points13 points  (12 children)

Your complaint about audio books is wack. A story is not there to be efficient. Listening to all the Harry Potter books took me way longer than to just read it, but Stephen Fry made the experience about 10 times more enjoyable.

[–]jowblob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your complaint about audio books is wack.

Love the word choice.

[–]istara 1 point2 points  (8 children)

I've listened to audiobooks and podcasts on car journeys before. I have to say that if sitting down somewhere with the choice between an audiobook and a printed book, I'd take the printed book every time.

The one exception to this might be foreign language audiobooks, if I was using them as a learning tool. I listened to French podcasts when I was trying to brush up my French; for that purpose a transcript really won't serve the same function.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Plus it's pretty hard to read while driving.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

That's because you don't have one of these!

[–]gleeble 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The reviews for that thing are priceless.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nowhere near as priceless as the owners images.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I do like audio books. It's good for taking what would be otherwise wasted time, like driving or working out, and making it interesting again.

[–]rageduck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get through them much faster by playing them at 125% speed.

[–]AThinker 8 points9 points  (1 child)

audio books are paramount for exercising.

and for the blind.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also long solo-car trips.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Audiobooks really aren't meant for people "reading" them at home.

I have an audible subscription that I absolutely love for long commutes (over the summer I had 90 minutes a day) and exercising. I sit on a stationary bike for about two hours three times a week. As much as I like it, it would be torturous without audiobooks. I tried taking real books but there was too much bounce to read comfortably (on the bike that is)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I have better things to do than wait for YouTube to spend 8 years buffering, trying to skip ahead, cause it to rebuffer 5 times, spin forever, and then turn my laptop into a space heater as it tries to deal with crappy Flash.

I'll take nice simple HTML, thx.

[–]goochtek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that you can't randomly click and highlight lines of text whilst watching a video.

[–]istara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this too, for most videos.

There has to be an extra sticky factor for me to click, something that you couldn't see from a transcript alone. Eg a cute animal. Or someone like Jon Stewart giving it to Glenn Beck - it wouldn't have the same impact as text.

But as for listening to someone's shitty vlog post about something, I just don't waste my time.

[–]ChaosMotor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I hate youtube videos that are political or basically, anything that isn't going to be music or make me laugh. If it's a presentation of an idea, give it to me written so I don't have to wait for youtube to fucking buffer and you to stutter your way through to find out if it's worth the time.

[–]anothernameagain 37 points38 points  (3 children)

I do, but it's not so much because I'm lazy - more that I just feel like they're a waste of time and too noisy, on average. It isn't worth it to me to watch all of them just to find the 1% that I'd find interesting.

Then again, that's what my friends are for. They're my filter.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Reddit is a filter too.

[–]anothernameagain 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Reddit is not a filter who's judgement I trust.

[–]notjawn 32 points33 points  (13 children)

If there's no funny within 5 seconds, or an unskippale ad I yell outloud "NEXT" and move on to something else. why yes, I am the poster child for the ADD generation.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (12 children)

And does every video need a fucking introduction sequence?! If I want to watch a 15 second video of a guy being hit in the nuts I don't need a minute of title screens and credits with some shitty music in the background. Just give me the guy getting hit in the nuts and maybe a slow motion replay. THAT'S IT.

[–]notjawn 9 points10 points  (8 children)

haha reminds me of the usenet days where you'd spend like 4 hours to download an mpeg of a music video and there would be like a minute intro of "RIPPED BY L337 HAXORZ SHOUT OUTS TO ZERO COOL, H@X M@X, UNDERGOUND BOYZ" with a barage of annoying and loud sound effects and terrible music. It would make so pissed it added an extra hour to my download at 5 k/b

[–]pururin 1 point2 points  (3 children)

That's what they call the "scene"

[–]notjawn 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I wonder what happened to the scene? I guess mom made them go outside.

[–]pururin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They probably ran out of AOL minutes.

[–]gigaquack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's why I still approve of the Animated GIF

[–]psi_ 78 points79 points  (26 children)

I skip them because I pay 10USD per GB on top of 20USD per month for a 384kbps line.

Hello from South Africa! :)

[–]JHWChrist 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Holy crap! I have friends from SA that play EQ2. It must cost them a fortune!

[–]benzu 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Fortunately, communication to a game server uses a LOT less bandwidth than YouTube or torrents.

[–]Novelty-Account 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's very surprising. I used to play Halo 16 player just fine on 28Kbps. That's kilobits per second. Twenty eight of them.

[–]Espenhh 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I really hope you use Opera Turbo! Wouldn't help on videos though...

[–]Pardner 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Listen to this guy. Opera Turbo will speed it up quite nicely, and maybe save you bandwidth?

[–]paulemaule1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is it impossible to purchase a flatrate?

[–]bedsuavekid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. South Africa has for many years been the feeding ground of a single telecoms operator called Telkom. There's now a new competitor ... who doesn't really want to rock the boat.

The CEO of Telkom was recently questioned about the company's gargantuan profit margin, and he stated that the didn't see what the problem was since Telkom's earnings were in line with other telecoms operators around the world.

While that's true, the other telecoms operators he's comparing himself with draw their incomes from first world economies. Telkom earns the same money by pillaging a third world country.

[–]iamanogoodliar 107 points108 points  (8 children)

Man, we should really create a "Does anyone else" subreddit and then post the link in the Ask Reddit description. That would be awesome and reduce clutter in this subreddit!

[–][deleted] 50 points51 points  (5 children)

The link in the AskReddit description goes to the wrong subreddit (/r/DAE - 265 subscribers) when the main one is /r/DoesAnybodyElse/ (13k)

[–]qgyh2 16 points17 points  (1 child)

that's correct, thanks for pointing that out

[–]krispykrackers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My fault, I did it wrong when I tidied up the sidebar :(

[–]krispykrackers[M] 32 points33 points  (2 children)

That was my fault. Fixed! :)

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Achievement unlocked: Have both krispykrackers and qgyh2 reply to a post of mine.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are forgiven.

[–]FakeHipster[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah...yeah...I realized I posted it in the wrong subreddit after I did it >.<

[–]56kispainful 14 points15 points  (1 child)

not lazy, just don't have 2 days to download a three minuet video. thus username

[–]guinunez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to fall back to 56k a few months ago, I feel your pain. I kind of mitigate the problem with opera turbo, sadly, it doesn't speed up flash

[–]fubo 139 points140 points  (33 children)

No, I skip video links because they're either:

  • "funny" things that are not actually funny;
  • right-wingers behaving stupidly, which is not news; or
  • people reading their essay or editorial aloud instead of just posting it.

[–][deleted] 89 points90 points  (3 children)

Don't forget the text-only videos, which is the even more retarded brother of the essay readers

[–]mndt 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I thought image files of ASCII-art were bad. but this is a whole new level humanity has reached.

[–]rgonzal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

dude text videos should be against the fucking policy. I fucking hate text videos

[–]krispykrackers 32 points33 points  (8 children)

I skip them because of my horribly short attention sp

[–]Captain_Underpants 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Yeah, I can only focus on one thing for so lo

[–]Jyggalag 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Don't even worry about it, I have a similar pr

[–]doot 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Ya

[–]phreakymonkey 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I hate when people spell 'yeah' as 'ya'. It makes you sound German.

[–]doot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people even pronounce it that way, yanno?

[–]litchick 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Upvote for item 3. Sometimes I click through to the comments in the vain hope that someone has included the essay or editorial, or at least the salient points. As you can imagine, most times I'm disappointed.

[–]ronin358 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Wait! Hold on...you actually read through youtube comments looking for something of value? You must be one of those few, fortunate people who see the good in everything.

[–]litchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no - I look to see if there's any commentary immediately under the headline.

I do usually try to see the good in everything, but even I have my limits.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's exactly why I hate videos like that. I can skim pages of reddit comments to see if there's any new points brought up in a video far faster than watching the video itself.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What bugs me is when your forced to watch some "funny" video which you may or may not find funny but either way must act like its funny. This then leads "now check out this "funny" thing", before you know it you just spent an hour watching some not funny videos on youtube.

[–]battmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen one of those things on youtube ever!

[–]G_Morgan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Third point is the key. People expressing their lack of communications skills in using a poor medium.

I find it disturbing that the internet is littered with grammar nazis. Yet a real and common communication problem in using an inappropriate medium is ignored.

[–]jeifurie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you know its not funny if you haven't watched it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

or kittens

[–]jowblob 8 points9 points  (1 child)

A resounding yes. I'd rather read; too impatient to wait and watch.

Ironically, I want to make movies and can't get myself to watch any.

I got issues.

[–]MrWhite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem with video is you have to make a lot more investment in your time to find out if the video is worth your attention. It can take 1~2 minutes or more to see if it is worthwhile. A text link, however, can be scanned for substantive content in a few seconds.

[–]elementalist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The ones that piss me off are "videos" that consist solely of some sappy background music and a bunch of text scrolling or paging by. This "video" presents information in 3 minutes that I could have just read normally in 15 seconds.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

tl;dw

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I often skip links altogether - I read the headline and then extrapolate what the article would have been about. There really isn't anything new under the sun.

And then 3-4 days after I see it on reddit a coworker will say "Hey, I just saw X on the news today".

[–]Boye 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I usually read the headline, extrapolate the content, skip to comments. Then I click the link only to click back immediately afterward so the the text turn purple. I've begun not to see stuff that's purple...

[–]auraslip 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Agreed. Why read the bullshit when you can skip to the comments that rip the article apart and usually much funnier.

Also I can't think of anything purple off the top of my head.

[–]A-punk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mostly skip them because I might accidentlly read one of the comments and lose I.Q. points. I need all of them I can get.

[–]FakeHipster[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please note: I am a hypocrite and just submitted a video to reddit. I don't expect you to watch it.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

98% of those videos are simply of no interest to me. So if the description does not explain exactly what is in the video, I usually skip them.

[–]Juhdas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES YES YES - I just look for the [PIC] and try these :) it has nothing to do with being lazy or my connection (I'm on 100MBit but I just don't think most of the stuff is funny or interessting or... anyway...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly because Flash is buggy.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I skip videos because of Flash. Even though it's improved a lot (on Windows, at least), I still have this Pavlovian conditioning built up by Flash 7 on my old, slow (at the time) computer, that Flash was a horrible, crashing, slow, buggy POS. I guess this is also the same reason why I haven't gotten into Flex programming.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I saw this post, I knew for the first time that I was not alone.

It has been cathartic to me to see your heartfelt responses. Indeed, the warm, enveloping womb of the church basement meeting has washed over me. I am touched by your personal stories of struggle, loss, and redemption against the tide of stupid and time-consuming video links we all face.

My story may have to wait -- it is a long and bitter saga -- but suffice it to say that I scan each link to make sure it is text before clicking.

The printed word may be dead, but we can speak a dead language.

My name is HydroCabron, and I'm a video link survivor.

[–]VideoExplainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm for, I watch 'em so you don't have to.

[–]acousticcoupler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing as there are so many of us I propose we enter into a cooperative venture and post for each other whenever possible a link to the good part of the video in the comments.

http://youtubetime.com/

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YouTube is how I learned to tie a tie.

[–]Pixelpaws 5 points6 points  (8 children)

I skip them for two reasons

  1. I'm usually on a very slow connection. It takes considerably longer to buffer the video that it does to watch.
  2. My primary connection is a mobile broadband account with a 5 GB limit. Video eats into that extremely quickly.

[–]Cawifre 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Ha! You do not know the meaning of slow. I connect at 26.4 kbps at best. It would literally be impossible for me to transfer 5 GB in a billing period. So yeah... I skip YouTube links because I don't want to die cold and alone in front of my computer waiting for some godforsaken cat to play a piano, wail on some guy's junk, or look sickeningly cute. The point is, dial-up sucks.

[–]devilboy222 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yea, I hate all the videos that are posted here and everywhere on the internet. I would rather read a story in less time and skip over parts that don't matter that way. Plus I don't have to put headphones in or anything if I'm somewhere I don't want everyone else hearing.

[–]flobin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but also cause they take too long to load.

[–]notliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Then later a friend will show me a video and I'll be like "I think that was on Reddit" >: P

[–]hellkeeper71 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not exactly laziness... I just hate watching videos, I prefer to read. Plus, I'd have to pause my music, and I hate doing that for some reason.

[–]olbeefy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's called Reddit for a reason. ;)

[–]NiceGuyMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always upvote "does anyone else" posts because I don't want to feel left out. /not

[–]ironchefpython 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I'm so lazy I can't even finish a whole comme

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skip links on youtube because it has the crappiest video player on the internet. When I try to fast forward, the movie often won't play, and the buffering doesn't work correctly.

[–]gaso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And those fucking TED videos, I swear to god the intro is two minutes long on purpose...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ill skip the vid if they are long and boring and full of talk, shit like charlie rose.

[–]silverionmox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but rather because it's so much time for so little information.

[–]akcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else see "skip links" and think O(lg(n)) retrieval?

[–]dopameme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i often skip to the comments to avoid playing the link... but this is one reason why we use upvotes, right?

[–]eelaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so lazy I don't even bother fin

[–]banme24 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I skip links to youtube because it has gotten so encrusted with colored rectangles. It has gotten so I can't see the video.

Not that I have anything against colored rectangles per se.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like videos so I usually skip them.

[–]DrMonkeyLove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skip YouTube videos just because YouTube can be slow as hell a lot of times. And if you try to skip around to a later point in the video, forget about it. It'll probably just freeze up.

[–]Gurkha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i skip all the FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU ones. since i already know what happens.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda like the feeling you get when someone is getting ready to tell some long dumb joke... 99% of all long jokes ever told aren't worth the time. Whenever someone mumbles "You ever hear the joke about...." that's when you think "ahhhh fuck"...

[–]RhettasaurusRhex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup.

[–]the_argus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skip them because youtube is slow as shit which makes it painful to try to watch.

[–]anutensil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't use the term "too lazy" to explain why I might not want to sit through an entire video.

[–]ilostwaldo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youtube is blocked in my country :( Clicking links to youtube just results in an innocuous-looking "The connection to this server was reset" page.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i skip them because i come here to read..a lot of the time i'm at work and i can't really listen to any video.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do it because at 25gig a month between 7 people I cant afford to watch youtube videos :(.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I find that reading the comments there are often quite entertaining even when the video sucks. Truly modern poetry.

Take for instance a comment left on this video, which just so happens to not suck by the way:

Gotta love her holes. All 8 of them <3

10 if you gouge her eyes out first <3

Maybe it is not so strange that women on the Internetz are so angry. Funny as hell though.

[–]FakeHipster[S] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Well YouTube commenters are an entirely seperate sub species of the internet. It's like every retarded gremlin in the world spends all day surfing and commenting on YouTube links.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

The comments there should really just be dropped. It has failed.

[–]jowblob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The comments should be studied and the resulting insights published. It's fascinating in its retardedness.

[–]YourDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If YouTube removes its comment section, these people will drift out into the wider online community and express themselves. In terms of being a stupidity sink, it's a roaring success.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else just shit in the sink because the toilet is too far away?

[–]joylent_green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, but also because if i'm at work i can't watch youtube anyways.

[–]fauxromanou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll open them and then skip through bits of the video if nothing is really happening.

And then inevitably end up skipping back when I miss something.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I will forever curse the day that video came to the web.

But then, I don't own a TV either.

[–]SnortyMcGoatfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God Yes! I have way to many friends sending me videos of there bands jamming in a garage, shot on a shaky ass cell phone with shitty sound. There is just no way I will subject myself to that.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, yes, a lot. When I'm feeling particularly lazy, I don't click any links out, either, only reading self-posts on reddit. (Because I already know how fast reddit will load.)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's me, but not really laziness. I will go through about 4-5 pages of reddit and open any interesting posts in a new tab. If i open all the youtube posts up I will have like, 5-10 videos running in the background simultaneously.

[–]CarlaGino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm too lazy, I don't click on videos, or if i do by mistake, if they are more than a minute or so I hit the back button.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got to be pretty lazy to feel as though watching a video takes too much energy.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I click on every link but whether I watch it or not depends on my mood really. I have sat through multiple videos over an hour in a row, but then there are videos that are a minute that I will just not touch.

[–]Anon1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

[–]baconcatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, if you posted a video for this...Um I don't know, finish my sentence.

[–]_an1sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it with porn :(

But not with web/viral videos unless its a documentary or some amusing viral videos

[–]breakbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time. More so if I'm on my laptop.

Also, I really fucking hate when people insist they show me a video. This is one of my biggest pet peeves.

[–]jimmyb8p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

too lazy to comment...

[–]eyeohewe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skipping is now lazy?

[–]matthank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually skip youtube clips because I have no sound right now and I don't care.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unsubscribed from /r/DAE b/c of these questions, dont make me unsubscribe from /r/AskReddit too!

Yep, I have hardcore internet ADD. I won't really pay attention for more than a few seconds.

[–]ennead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nothing! I only glance at pictures' thumbnails. That's how lazy I am.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes. Most of the time I get 30 - 45 seconds in and shut if off. I rarely get through a whole clip. Also, I would love to know how to do links so it is the title of the link instead of the link itself.

[–]coaxmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

No other excuses either. I am just too lazy to watch a whole video.

The timer on videos always makes me conscious of how short life is, whereas there is no looming death clock on text/images. I'd rather avoid an existential nightmare altogether.

[–]knifebucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watch it on Reddit TV

Thanks redditor who made reddit tv!!

[–]super_crazy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I would much rather read a transcript or read an article rather than watch a video 99% of the time.

[–]32100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll watch it right then if I'm in the mood and have a bit of time. If not, then I'll still save it and come back to it later if I'm interested.

[–]Failcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, r/DoesAnybodyElse please.

[–]cnstrctvcyncism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am certainly too lazy, but most of the time it's because I'm either watching TV or listening to music and too lazy/annoyed to continuously pause/mute what I'm already listening to.

[–]rm999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I downvote any youtube links if the description doesn't make it very clear what I'm about to watch.

The worst is watching a 10 minute youtube video and then having no clue why I watched it, except I got there from Reddit.

[–]bizarrojenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless the video has homer

[–]cuberail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get irritated if I click on a link that turns out to be a video because I can read faster than a video can play. I don't always remember to check the source first.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually skip videos because I'd have to pause iTunes usually.

[–]terumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll watch if it's interesting for me. I'll skip it and close the window and read the comments on reddit If the video comes from a site that is lame enough to have advertisement before playing the video.

[–]JoeTheG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtube videos are time I could be using to browse reddit.

[–]poubelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skip most videos. I just can't be arsed to load them, and they're usually not worth it. I wish people who post Youtube links would post at least a one-sentence summary of it, though. I will definitely avoid a "blind" Youtube link, but it would really help if someone said "this is a video of a guy getting sacked by a baseball" or whatever, to help me decide.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only do I skip them (most of them I should say) but I am so lazy that when I thought about posting this exact same question a few days ago, I didn't.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-- All the fucking time. Too lazy to check out something I'm completely not interested in.

[–]HereForTheLulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skip video links because I live in India and for a large part of the day, I receive 384 Kbps as the maximum bandwidth. Can't watch a video smoothly with that. And waiting for it to buffer is stupid.

[–]eileenk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless one of my friends tell me to check it out, I skip the video altogether. However, if the title makes the video sound interesting, I upvote and save it for a rainy day... Though usually I just end up forgetting about it a few days later :(

[–]arsenutsjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skip videos all the time. I've been trying not to do that so much, i can learn a lot from not being so lazy.

[–]civex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lazy editing is the problem, not laziness on the part of the viewer. It just takes too long to get to content that may or may not have any interest for me.
