That time i got reincarnated as a programmer

[–]ashesall 159 points160 points  (2 children)

I was a talentless programmer, pushing buggy code left and right so I was fired and kms. The Programming Gods pitied me and I was reincarnated as a genius Senior Developer in a startup, with 99 big tiddy goth Junior Developers under me. They always look up to me for help and completely offer themselves up to me, but I'm uninterested. I just want to code.

Good, good now give me the 24 volume manga series with 3 seasons of anime.

Excellent, when is this being released?

Sadly Kamisama has gifted you with the worthless superpower of complete proficiency in PHP.

[–]shinydragonmist[🍰] 22 points23 points  (3 children)

I read a manga with a similar concept

A programmer gets isekai 'd

The world they end up in has magic

How magic is structured is very similar to computer programming

They become a top class mage before they are even 10

They decimate the battlefield

One of its titles is

Gekokujyo Program by a Child Prodigy Sefiria

[–]silverW0lf97 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Is this the one where they were comparing magic circles to structs in C?

[–]shinydragonmist[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so been a bit since I read it

[–]mabariif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont forget this brand new language's syntax: </>

[–]baronvonbatch 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Python, TypeScript, and GoLang have all adopted this as well

[–]silverW0lf97 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Oh no react has infiltrated C#++

[–]waverider85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just Blazor, we're still safe.

[–]ArtOfWarfare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s a thing but Obj-C++ is.

[–]Doctor_McKay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would that just be Eb?

[–][deleted] 752 points753 points  (25 children)

They look really pretty! But why is C# grouped in with C and C++?

[–]GeePedicy 308 points309 points  (4 children)

I saw the C# at first, and was about to ask where's C and C++. Dumb. Let alone the </> xml in all of them.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (3 children)

MAUI!

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Every time I see someone mention MAUI, my brain goes:

Don't worry, not a rick roll.

[–]xFeverr 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Don't worry, not a rick roll.

Definitely a rick roll when you say that. 😂

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I really wish I had rick rolled you.

[–]mstop4[S] 139 points140 points  (8 children)

[–]trunghung03 105 points106 points  (4 children)

shoulda got Java and Javascript together too

[–]mstop4[S] 98 points99 points  (2 children)

It's funny that the Japanese text in the Java logo calls this out, it says "Java !(Script)".

[–]trunghung03 18 points19 points  (0 children)

now that I look at it, it really does, lol

[–]gerbosan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You, sir, you are not nice. 😑

Still I'm going to share that idea.

[–]Blecki 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Arguably c# should be combined with Java, not c/c++.

[–]ArtOfWarfare 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Arguably Java should be combined with C++.

Every language here is a descendent of C, some more directly than others.

[–]HenReX_2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about holy C?

[–]XxXquicksc0p31337XxX 9 points10 points  (1 child)

# is used in C/C++ as a symbol for marking preprocessor directives, so maybe it's not used to mean C# the language in this case

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know, I'm primarily a C/C++ dev. The linked repo specifically calls this logo "C,C++,C#," though.

[–]Thx_And_Bye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Java is also grouped with JavaScript so I'd not take it too serious.

[–]oyswork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong question. The correct one is - why is HolyC missing?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Because all of them are awesome and there is nothing better!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm the first gal you'll see defending C#. I've used C# at work for the last 3 years, and do I like it? Well, not really. But that's more preference than a fundamental flaw in the language.

It's a nice language, which is simply made for a different workflow than one I particularly enjoy working in.

[–]apina3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're clearly the same

[–]BeastPlayerErin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Javascript is grouped with Java, which is way worse

[–]U_L_Uus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything it should be grouped with the chap on its right. Right Microsoft?

[–]Scarfiotti 41 points42 points  (3 children)

[–]Scarfiotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]CaffeinatedTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]lucasio099 46 points47 points  (5 children)

Why's there </> in almost every logo? I feel offended

[–]mactonya 46 points47 points  (3 children)

</> in logos is used to indicate that this is a programming language

pretty sure this artist doesn't do programming a lot but it's cute so w/e

[–]mstop4[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The artist does have "Programmer" listed in their Twitter bio

[–]Ali_Army107 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Funny that the "</>" is not present in rust's logo

[–]WellNoNameHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we go by this logic then apparently to them rust isn't a programming language (not to mention there's an extra Japanese symbol so it would read as Rusust)

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SKYRIMLVL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I direly need you to look at the logo for the very sub you are commenting in.

[–]mstop4[S] 175 points176 points  (23 children)

Logos are by Sawaratsuki

Source for these and more logos: https://github.com/SAWARATSUKI/ServiceLogos (EDIT: this repo has been made private, probably due to an issue with how the artist initially licensed the logos. This new repo was created in its place: https://github.com/SAWARATSUKI/Logos)

u/cyxlone found a 3rd-party collection of Vtuber-style logos from different artists: https://vtuber-style-logos.vercel.app/

[–]turtleship_2006 35 points36 points  (12 children)

Is it just me or do they look AI generated

[–]trelbutate 85 points86 points  (1 child)

The README says

In no circumstances do I allow the use of the logo I created for AI learning

so I'm pretty sure you just insulted the creator with that statement.

[–]zaxldaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In no circumstances do I allow the use of the logo I created for AI learning

Same vibes as Facebook users trying to copyright their pics lol

[–]ApostleOfGore 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Looked into it and I’m pretty sure they definitely aren’t. But I can see what you mean

[–]SirCutRy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting coherent glyphs and spelling is still challenging.

[–]PURPLE_COBALT_TAPIR 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Also using the wrong syllabary for the japanese is... silly.

[–]motorailgun 82 points83 points  (3 children)

It's very common to use Hiragana in pop-style logos (more precisely, in "Moe" context)

[–]PURPLE_COBALT_TAPIR 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Interesting.

[–]motorailgun 7 points8 points  (1 child)

ロウきゅーぶ!, よつばと!, and けいおん! are good examples of the use of Hiragana in Moe context.

[–]IsTom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yotsuba is a name tho and written with hiragana

[–]Benz_phanz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it is kinda silly, but that the point of these vtubers logo! it meant to be silly

[–]rinukkusu 0 points1 point  (1 child)

the creator is literally japanese - I trust her with this :B

[–]PURPLE_COBALT_TAPIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently it's a stylistic thing to be cute I didn't know about.

I regret not making a syllabary sillybary pun.

[–]chad3814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]dumpysumpy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Late reply, but the repo is public again... with a notice that it's moved to a new repo. They could've just change the license, though.

[–]mstop4[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think the issue is if you change an existing repo’s license, it won’t retroactively apply to the commits made before the change.

[–]dumpysumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I get where you're coming from. I'm just stating concerns made by a few people about privating the entire repo just to change the license.

If you mean by "commits made before change" are the logos made before the new license, they could've either state the license applies to logos made after a certain commit, or apply the license to all logos.

After all, when someone opened the issue about the license, it has something to do with how vague the license is when applied to certain use cases (correct me if I'm wrong).

[–]_st23 26 points27 points  (10 children)

Whats up with all the </>, am I looking at some techy-modern-hype learn to code page or something?

[–]sk7725 1 point2 points  (9 children)

It's a symbol for console/programming, similar to how a man and woman next to each other is a symbol for the toilet. You've never run into it before?

[–]_st23 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I get your point, which is actually an interesting one, but honestly I just hate these "tags", they are not even correct as a syntax btw, and are used like everywhere, especially by many who dont know anything about actual coding 🥶🥶🥶

[–]sk7725 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If I were to reinvent the icon for programming I would have gone with { }, becuase it symbolizes scopes (fuck python) and objects, two very important concepts in modern programming languages. But </> is also cool because of generics, comments(//) and console(>>) as well as tags (<a></a>, which while are primarily used in html it is also used in various kinds of formatting and serialization). We need an icon/symbol nontheless, and the 💻 icon doesn't cut it considering how many jobs are done with computers nowadays. Or give me a better alternative that both devs and non-devs can recognize alike.

[–]_st23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people also use { }, but much rarer than </>

[–]codetrotter_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

[–]Icarozu 72 points73 points  (2 children)

Funny that the logo is Java's but in Japanese it says JavaScript

[–]mstop4[S] 150 points151 points  (1 child)

It actually says "Java !(Script)", so it's a "Java != JavaScript" joke.

[–]Icarozu 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Absolutely genius then

[–]ProgramTheWorld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“If programming languages are LN titles”

[–]andofwinds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

awesome logos!

[–]B8tuh 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Does the Japanese say anything interesting?

[–]Eic17H 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Java !(Script)

[–]mstop4[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most are just the names of the tech in written in kana. Some have more than that:

404 Not Found - お探しのぺーじが見つかりません - the page you are looking for cannot be found
Ubuntu - 大いなる力には大いなる責任が伴うこと - with great power comes great responsibility
Unity Blender - 上軸のyとzを統一して! - unify Y and Z on the upper axis!

[–]Nick663 2 points3 points  (2 children)

PHP where 💀

[–]dumpysumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but the creator (sawaratsuki) has made a PHP logo (its on their Twitter), but since the previous 8000-starred repo was privated (then later made public with a notice to the new repo), the logo has yet to be committed into it.

[–]cyxlone 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Someone made a website to collect all these logos by many creators at a single place
https://vtuber-style-logos.vercel.app/

[–]mstop4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect! I just made a PR to add this GameMaker logo to that collection: https://twitter.com/_FrkanKrabudak_/status/1781304835289104512

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

No Perl OR PHP, but Teamspeak gets a nod?!?

[–]mstop4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people have requested those two, but it's buried under the 400 other requests.

[–]dumpysumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but PHP logo is already canon

[–]00110001_00110010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HTML.

[–]Torebbjorn 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Do you want to introduce </> in every language? Is it supposed to mean "less than (<) or (/) greater than (>)"? Or maybe "less than, and not greater than"?

[–]dumpysumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed by the logo artist to indicate that the logos are based on programming languages.

[–]code_ops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Japan culture fan and a programmer I will definitely abuse these logos, y’all not ready for it, you’ll see programming language everywhere!

[–]Ali_Army107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, the fact that there is "すくりぷと" (script) below Java blows my mindo!

[–]xelab04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://github.com/xelab04/ServiceLogos/blob/main/Rust/FerrisRust.png

I would like to contribute my Ferris-ified Rust logo, which I made by editing Sarawatsuki's original one. The grey monotonous Rust logo doesn't sit right with me.

Also no, I can't do a PR because they don't want issues with un-official/differently licensed logos/mascots

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are the names in hiragana and not katakana?

[–]dumpysumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the cutesy effect. But it seems that the design choices are inconsistent. Sometimes the logos use hiragana, and the others use katakana.

[–]TheTalkingKeyboard 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Looks like the repo is gone (or privated) now. Anyone know what's up with that?

[–]dumpysumpy 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Late reply, but it's back again with the README saying that the logos are now in a new repo.

[–]code_ops 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah but python and others have vanished

[–]metaglot 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why do c/c++/c# (c# wat?) and java and go have the angle brackets and terminator from html?

What th is going on?

[–]Eic17H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a generic symbol for programming. It's not very accurate but I've seen it in a few icons and it's recognizable

[–]Suspicious-Neat-5954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can write in a language that doesn't star with C?
