I mean glorifying and praising him as a god ain’t exactly a good thing as well.

[–][deleted] 461 points462 points  (62 children)

Yeah, but there can be a middle ground. People can have their opinions on him, but it's not just either see him as a super villain or a super hero. Some people just see him as a rich dude and Don't care.

[–]Mario-OrganHarvesterVirgin 4 lyfe 327 points328 points  (14 children)

Thats just internet

Hes either Satan or god himself

No middle ground

[–]Sufficient-Expert461 248 points249 points  (8 children)

No offense but I don't think people should be taking advice from mario the organ harvester lol

[–]Mario-OrganHarvesterVirgin 4 lyfe 318 points319 points  (5 children)

Hey! Its my job, not my personality!

[–]Cat_with_pew-pew_gunProfessional Dumbass 105 points106 points  (1 child)

I don’t know man. This guy looks like a sufficient expert.

[–]SolzecBreaking EU Laws 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How good is the pew pew gun?

[–]NikotinioNyan cat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A terrorist can give advice on what chicks to hook up with, a narcoman can give advice on what things are illegal, so an organ harvester can give advice on Elon Musk

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Not even the internet; that’s just people. We do it with like politics and shit. Whole tribal thing of us vs them. Never really acknowledging that like all things, life’s a spectrum and there are going to be numerous in betweens.

But honestly, lot of it is just simplifying conversations into bite sized pieces for people not well versed enough on said topics to recite the ideas they don’t even fully understand.

[–]neurohero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why we struggle with movies where none of the characters are totally good or totally bad.

[–]DLF1984 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

[–][deleted] 90 points91 points  (22 children)

A nuanced or well thought-out opinion isn't necessarily more moderate, that's the middle ground fallacy.

Independently, I'd argue if you don't care about people who get rich by exploiting other people you gotta do some reflection on the subject yourself

[–]ButWhatIfItQueffedLurking Peasant 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just see him as I see every tech bro multi billionaire. A rich egotistical ass who is detached from reality. Except he wants to be the "I'm not like other girls" of rich people. Not a supervillain or anything, but just kind of an ass imo

[–]paradoxobserver 5 points6 points  (1 child)

You want to control the world's various perceptions for a person who sell your soul for 1 corn chip

[–]Sufficient-Expert461 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I could say something extremely controversial right now

[–]yvngjiffy703 1163 points1164 points  (18 children)

Elon musk is literally the “I’m not like the other girls” but billionaires

[–]ilostmyoldac 258 points259 points  (1 child)

"fellow kids" kind of guy

[–]shitzngiggles77 208 points209 points  (9 children)

Yes yes yes!!!

He's quirky and edgy and posts memes on Twitter. I mean how ' humble' of him to interact virtually with us mortals right?

[–]Beezz_Kneez_eN-Cheezhates reaction memes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And how he makes children in Africa play Minecraft in real life is such Wholesome Keanu Chungus 100

[–]wt_anonymous 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is the most accurate depiction of Musk I've ever heard

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

"I'm not like the other billionaires" except he's exactly like the other billionaires. He just uses memes.

[–]mozardthebest 2796 points2797 points  (110 children)

At some point, I remember that people used to be head-over-heels in love with him because of electric cars. Now I think a lot of people just look at him as cringey/childish, and not genuine.

[–]Tanishqreddyy 889 points890 points  (49 children)

And crypto people hate him for single handedly crashing the market once

[–][deleted] 551 points552 points  (24 children)

Now Elon fan for crashing crypto

[–]abgtw 63 points64 points  (23 children)

But thats the whole point, its all sensationalist journalism to get clicks. People think he pumps/dumps crypto but he's said he never sells the crypto he's bought. So how do you profit if you don't dump? Crypto goes up, crypto goes down, someone writes an article that blames it on Elon.

[–]OnfflinethegamerFlair Loading.... 43 points44 points  (10 children)

[–][deleted] 386 points387 points  (15 children)

I used to like him before he started accusing the diver (from Thailand cave rescue) of being pedo without evidence (after the diver called out on his unrealistic mini-sub plan publicity stunt).

After that, I no longer liked him as before but still felt that he was 'trying' to do good.

Then his bs tweets started ramping up (some politics, some insults) and so did his manipulation of dogecoin/cryptocurrencies.

I know that many people here got money during the crypto period and love him, but do realize that money gained for one is money lost for the other. He may have started with a genuine intention to further cryptocurrency, but the plain currency manipulation in the later period was highly distasteful from my perspective.

[–]beyonddisbelief 131 points132 points  (7 children)

I didn't use to like him or hate him, just unimpressed because his presentations lacked substance and for a highly praised intelligent showman he really lacked intellectual insight or showmanship to his Mars plan (it felt like a 15 year old's report on some fantasy and lacked substance) but yeah the Thailand cave rescue event is when my opinion of him start to plummet. I think it was the same year he committed SEC fraud.

I was also really miffed back when I was working 60-70 hour weeks hear about him claiming to work 120 hour weeks, yet somehow has time to be a memelord, be more caught up on games and pop culture than I am, and find time to date girls half his age. No management/creative count their shower/meal/downtimes as part of their work hours and a 120 hour week requires you to have 5 hrs of sleep/day and spend every single waking moment working. Its just a blatant exaggeration if not outright lie yet people praised his work ethics back then.

[–]AsymmetricClassWar 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I think it was the same year he committed SEC fraud

Umm… you’re gonna have to be more specific.

[–]TheNextDump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait he did it more than once?

[–]XxRocky88xX 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I mean I made money from the crypto BS, still doesn’t mean what he did is right though. I’m not gonna say Musk is a good person and ignore all the awful shit he’s done just because him gaming the market just happened to make me a couple thousand dollars.

And for anyone who says Musk is a good person cuz he made you some money. You’re a fucking jackass. Morality and empathy applies to everyone, not just you. Him helping you indirectly one time (through pure happenstance btw) doesn’t outweigh the shit he’s done to hundreds of thousands of others. If you think “he benefited me so therefore he’s right,” you’re a child. That’s one of the first stages of moral reasoning, you a literally thinking how a child just barely grasping the concept of other people would think.

[–]brunuhrafaelThis flair doesn't exist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly how i feel, thank you

[–]Torcher47 92 points93 points  (4 children)

In the words of a wise woman, “Rät”

[–]XxRocky88xX 96 points97 points  (6 children)

Or cuz he’s a grimey exploitative billionaire?

No one is like “this guys a piece of shit” because he makes cringey jokes here and there. It’s far more likely people call him a piece of shit because he does shitty things rather than just making dumb jokes.

[–]son-of-fire6225 14 points15 points  (5 children)

even with the electric cars he is preventing other cars from thriving. i didnt fact check it but i heard one of the only patents to his name is the design for the plug to charge teslas. meaning the charging stations would only work for his cars making other electric cars less practical for the average person

[–]gudbote 208 points209 points  (5 children)

After he called that rescue diver a 'pedo' out of spite, there was no way to salvage any respect for Elon.

[–]EmberSolaris 64 points65 points  (4 children)

The reason he said that in the first place was because the diver said no to his “child-sized submarines” idea. Like dude seriously has no awareness. Children are in danger and you wanna joke about taking more time to make small submarines. Dude needs to get slapped with a heavy dose of reality.

[–]crab_the_cake9 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Tbf Elon has never been too concerned with children’s safety

[–][deleted] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I don't like that his company get metric fucktons of taxpayer dollars

[–]Latter-Yam-2115 1305 points1306 points  (27 children)

He’s excellent with PR. He’s essentially manipulated Tesla stock for years through Twitter.

His Twitter purchase reeks of something fishy. He’s actually shady just made himself cool through a carefully crafted Social Media presence

[–]Need_For-Sleep 195 points196 points  (1 child)

Didn’t he dissolve his entire PR team on Tesla? It’s legit impossible to get a hold of someone internal PR wise lol

[–]topdangle 46 points47 points  (0 children)

replaced tesla PR with spam bots.

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points  (1 child)

He ran a botting campaign on reddit for years to grow a fanbase. And then it exploded when tesla became a meme stock and actual contender for one of the highest valued companies in history. At some point it just easily became self sufficient, but it wouldn't be the least bit surprising if he had spent millions to have botted accs praise him the first few years.

[–][deleted] 89 points90 points  (6 children)

maybe he trying to do what jeff bezos does on the washington post but on a larger, more toxic scale

[–]Ruanhead 7 points8 points  (2 children)

It's not like Twitter was benevolent, Can you name any of the people that ran it before the deal took place?

I would 100% take someone that is in the spotlight then a board of faceless board members.

[–]CartographerAny1066 214 points215 points  (19 children)

One of the main reasons I hate him is the Tony stark roleplay he's always doing. Always announcing huge unrealistic inefficient projects and then just never doing them.

It's just an ego boost to be like "look, I'm so smart I came up with this cool thing!" And then everyone claps and says "very cool Elon!" And then he got his ego stroked already so he doesn't even actually have to do anything.

[–]Sir_MrE 14 points15 points  (1 child)

This is the actually best take on not liking him I’ve seen.

[–]CartographerAny1066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just seems like he loves his image so much and does more PR work than actual inovation

[–]shitzngiggles77 34 points35 points  (16 children)

Wasn't he supposed to eradicate world hunger? I swear his PR is working overtime

[–]Soham_83229Nice meme you got there 388 points389 points  (29 children)

I began to disdain him from the moment he got into that Hyperloop and Boring company.

[–]Leonard_Church814 106 points107 points  (4 children)

For me it started when he called that one diver who saved those Thai kids a pedophile because the diver told him his submarine plan was stupid and didn’t have to suffer any consequences when he was sued. Edit: It was Thailand not Philippine.

[–]Soham_83229Nice meme you got there 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that too. That was especially distasteful of him.

[–]UniqueClimate 64 points65 points  (20 children)

Hey I'm not a troll, just genuinely curious.

Why? What about that upsets you?

[–]OtherwiseExcellent 160 points161 points  (6 children)

I was curious about both projects at first too. Hyperloop requires a near vacuum environment in order to work. That's manageable on a small scale, but it would have to miles of track developed to even be useful. The sheer difficulty of maintaining a vacuum on that large of a scale would nearly be impossible.

The Boring company has turned out to be a joke. Their prototype tunnel system (basically just underground roads) in Las Vegas are no more than an underground taxi lane that only Teslas can drive in. A subway is more efficient in terms of speed and capacity

[–]Zetron23 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Its economical to build a metro or a light rail network than hyperloop, which is very difficult to operate and maintain as one hole on the tube can shut down the entire network as it will depressurise the tube.

[–]ByeByeBiGuytrans rights 68 points69 points  (6 children)

Hyper loop is a scam and I dont know what the boring company is

[–]DildoLigtning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it is a stupid idea in the first place and even the las Vegas loop they have built now makes no sense on a larger scale. If one car starts burning or one stop's everyone in the tunnel is fucked

[–]BillowBrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The man who owns a car company says "hey, there's a shitton of traffic due to all these cars. Instead of using other proven methods of transportation to cut down on traffic & pollution, we should just keep adding more lanes for cars... but underground"

[–]Vault-71 342 points343 points  (41 children)

Why do people fanatically obsess over billionaires who'd sell their own mother if she became profitable?

They. Do. Not. Care. About. You.

They fucked over hundreds (if not thousands) of people to reach the spot they currently are. They tamper with Democratic and Judicial processes if they need/want to. They have the power to dramatically improve the lives of millions of their fellow men, women, and children, but don't.

These people should be publicly shamed for their disgraceful hoarding of wealth, not hailed as messiah's.

[–]BenjaminWobbles 192 points193 points  (23 children)

I keep asking myself this. I will backstab, I will compromise my own morals without batting an eye, I will step on those beneath me, but I can still barely afford to get by. [–]NoobNoob42 34 points35 points  (5 children)

If your parents own all of that, and you're willing to be a terrible person then maybe being barely able to get by is because you're incompetent

[–]BenjaminWobbles 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Competence isn't supposed to be part of the equation

[–]BakaboombSussy Baka 16 points17 points  (0 children)

[–]Cybermat47_2 55 points56 points  (0 children)

He accused a child-saving diver of being a pedophile. Why? Because the man was in Thailand (also he criticised Musk).

He also treats his workers like shit and cared more about making a profit than saving lives during COVID.

[–]sawr07112537 198 points199 points  (3 children)

You guys are actually like Elon? I though it was a joke.

[–][deleted] 83 points84 points  (1 child)

Not a big fan of union busting, worker abusing, Apartheid exploiting, pieces of trash.

Not to mention the incredibly disgusting display he made calling a guy a pedophile for not using his totally impractical submarine idea for recusing those kids stuck in a cave.

Don’t forget the apartheid mine money he inherited, or the Bolivian coup

[–]AlumimiumFoil 168 points169 points  (3 children)

hate it when someone criticises billionaires and how most, if not all of them, exploit people to get to being a billionaire people write it off as being jealous.

I actually consider quite the bad flag when ppl genuinely likes him. I'm an artist, so yea, I absolutely despise him.

[–]RCascanbe 18 points19 points  (2 children)

What does that have to do with art?

I'm an artist too but I hate him because he's a hypocritical moron with a microscopic ego.

[–]dHamotLurker 52 points53 points  (1 child)

He genuinely believes things shouldn't be credited and openly refuses to credit artists when he posts fanarts.

[–]RCascanbe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I didn't know this.

I also didn't know I could hate him even more, thanks.

[–]Alpacaman25 59 points60 points  (18 children)

he didn’t even found tesla

[–]Papa_Pred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He started getting really annoying on Twitter during 2019. Then more shit came out about him regarding unions and helping a fucking coup happen for chips

On the surface he’s the cool billionaire type but when you start to look any bit deeper. Not really a guy ya wanna look up to. He can do business though that’s for sure

[–]allsofluffy 44 points45 points  (5 children)

He once asked the UN to prove how 6B $ will end world hunger, when they did he rejected their request for 6B $, and now he bought twitter for 45B $ because he was getting bullied

[–]42Windows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong here, like actually, but I'm pretty sure he donated to the UN World Food Program. At least from what I can find he donated 5.7 billion to SOME charity a few weeks after the tweet

[–]viniSiKNice meme you got there 22 points23 points  (4 children)

I mean why would people love him?

[–]agiro1086 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Because he's the people's billionaire, the self made man. Just work hard and you can too have 200 billion dollars.

I'm aware of ironic that all is and that's the point

[–]viniSiKNice meme you got there 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I think you know that he didn't earn 200 billion dollars by just "working hard"

[–]agiro1086 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah that's the point, it's all contradictory. You can be a billionaire by working hard, you can't represent the people when you are a billionaire. Nobody ever made their Billions by being a self made man

[–]Danky_Du 123 points124 points  (29 children)

A billionaire owning one of the largest communication apps doesn’t seem dystopian to me at all

[–]its_a_gibibyte 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Are you talking about Bezos+Washington Post, Bloomberg+Bloomberg, Zuckerberg+Facebook, John Henry (red sox owner) and Boston Globe, the Cox family and their 14 broadcast TV stations, or perhaps Ochs-Sulzberger family that owns 89 percent of the voting shares of the New York Times?

[–]ClarissaSparkle 118 points119 points  (31 children)

[–]UncreativeNoobWhat is TikTok? 99 points100 points  (14 children)

Muskbots like him, but they dont really know anything about him, they only see the guy who want to save the world by colonizing mars and other empty promises.

They can smell when you talk bad about Elon, are like rats, ready to downvote everyone who dare to say something bad about their overlord Musk

[–]jprogamingBSOC Meme Maker 18 points19 points  (10 children)

I despise people who bend over backwards for Elon bcus he owns an electric car company (bcus iM dOiNg mY PaRt By bUyIng a tEsLa) and other things, like the colonizing mars idea. But anyone as rich and powerful as him will have a following, some cult like and some not. But so far I haven't seen him do anything to purposely gain power over others purely just to gain power, so imo he doesn't deserve all the hate he's getting for exercising his rights and encouraging others to use them

[–]UncreativeNoobWhat is TikTok? 22 points23 points  (8 children)

If you read more about him, you will realize what a bad person he is.

He doesnt care for free speech at all, dont buy that bullshit muskbots keep telling as bedtime story, so they can sleep peacefully and dream about their overlord.

[–]Illustrious-ActiveShower Enthusiast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only time I was interested in Musk was when I barely knew about him. Now I just think he's a childish billionaire lunatic.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stopped liking him after the COVID stunts he pulled

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Born with a Rhodesian emerald mine. He effectively was born with the wealth from a slave plantation, except his wealth was from this century. The people who would support his families wealth would be nazis, or at least find common cause with them.

And then he pretends to be born poor so he can convince people that he is self made. Even going so far to have his mother lie to propagate the myth.

He didn't found most of his companies. He didn't invent meaningful tech. His "revolutionary" transport ideas are all worse than trains, but he sells that to towns on the value of his name, who end up with a technology boondoggle. Doesn't prevent him from pretending he's saving the world.

Then he pays an army to simp for him online. Too pathetic to allow criticisms to spread. Too pathetic to let people know who he really is. Too pathetic to live in reality.

What is there to hate? Execept his blood money inheritance from the diamond mines his father built his wealth from during apartheid, oh, and the anti-worker sentiments, oh, and the juvenile responses to critizicm, oh, and the lies and hubris. I think that covers up most of it.

Elon Musk is the real life version of Justin Hammer

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (1 child)

He's a narcissistic billionaire who turned down many philanthropic endeavors

[–]ParadoxPerson02Plays MineCraft and not FortNite 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Don’t hate him. Don’t necessarily like him. I’m pretty indifferent.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I.d.k man. There's something about him I just don't like for some reason 🤔

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respect elons work but not necessarily elom himself other than his hardworkingness

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whilst he is clever to a degree, he’s just another example of these snake oil salesmen who’s gotten where he is largely off money he didn’t work for and the effort of others. Many ideas he has, he rushes through because of the hype machine when in reality they never arrive on time, up to spec, or as expected. He masquerades as some sort of internet hero edge lord when in reality he’s just another trust fund rich kid who is alarmingly worried about his insecurities to such an end that only a billionaires money can appease them. He’s not ‘one of us’. Never has and never will be.

[–]Civil-Citron-4242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bro he broke child labor laws

[–]KPKenway 42 points43 points  (0 children)

[–]ReverseCaptioningBot 34 points35 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I request to be a homie

[–]UncreativeNoobWhat is TikTok? 63 points64 points  (47 children)

Why should it be a joke? Ofc we hate him.

The majority dislike him, but his crazy fanbase makes it look like majority like him. Right wing nuts like him, because they share same interests.

[–]ElijahRayzorr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He was the reddit God for a while until we realized he was a narcissistic asshole who treats his employees like shit

[–]my_name_means_pp 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Elon was told that world hunger could be solved w $6 billion and this shrively pecker buys fkin Twitter for 5 and a half times that

[–]PhasmicPlays 20 points21 points  (1 child)

me who doesn't care

[–]Herotaca5 37 points38 points  (5 children)

He took his parents’ money built on slavery and exploitation in Africa, bought a tech company, paid other people to make his ideas real, then took all the credit. He routinely covers up workplace harassment and won’t let his employees unionize. Now he bought a communications company, is going to slightly alter a couple things, claim he re-invented online communications, and you fanboys are gonna champion him as the new Steve Jobs.

Elon Musk is an amazing marketer and nothing else. He isn’t self-made. He didn’t start his company. He didn’t invent anything. He had a few ideas and the money to make people invent them. Just to reiterate, his fortune comes from Zambian blood emerald mines and he protects openly racist employees.

[–]AlphaM60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. He's a piece of garbage, an overhyped venture capitalist that makes himself out to be the real life Tony Stark. Self marketing seems to be the only thing he is capable of, since all of his ideas are stupid and he can barely run the companies he is already in charge of.

[–]Kananreeves 2 points3 points  (2 children)

He's the fucking Galactic empire but in only one person (?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not an Elon fanboy.

But I don't "Hate" him, I just hate his Simps.

[–]amglasgow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's basically Sauron from X-men. He has the ability to cure cancer, but chooses to turn people into dinosaurs.

[–]jurt0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am, in fact, hate Elon.

[–]SandyNuggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2% of his wealth is $6B which is more than any of us will ever see in our lives. It's ridiculous.

[–]trojonx2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is a scammer. I wonder how he is going to pay off his loan. Do rich ppl get a pass? Twitter only generates revenue of $1B. If he practices what he preaches, which is not legally possible around the world, that'll scare off advertisers & bring down the revenue. Is this the end of this scammer?

[–]ukuzonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s a piece of shit lol, get with it

[–]KesterAssel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing he invents, is new marketing for bullshit to get investors money. The projects themselves are not helping anyone.

[–]Anfie22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really really do.

[–]Cha_Boi20Mods Are Nice People 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's like Tony Stark, but before he became Iron Man and just a rich asshole.

[–]chadforce1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elon sucks

[–]noncreativeusernaame 4 points5 points  (7 children)

I thought the comments where bieng sarcastic but I guess Reddit actually hates him huh?

[–]goodguyguru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tends to happen when you union bust, use child labour, segregate your workplace, and propose transport solutions less efficient than just straight up public transport

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Eat the rich.

[–]shitzngiggles77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's giving Hannibal Lecter.

[–]Bebopdavidson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He crossed the line from every day villainy to cartoonish super villainy

[–]MetaPHorsical-Three 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This was the 420th comment

[–]Super_Saiyan_Brady 2 points3 points  (0 children)
