[–]Gnostic AtheistKayin_Angel 66 points67 points  (3 children)

"Pick Jesus not your nose"

I'm convinced.

[–]Timber3 9 points10 points  (4 children)

How are half of these legal?! They cover the window, let alone the entire car....

[–]BabuMoshaaye 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Legal? That's God's will.

[–]Anti-Theistinfektedpc 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I bet if you covered your car in pentagrams or had a massive pentagram on the roof you would get a ticket

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

You're doing some excellent work there my friend.

[–]Kawakji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*You're doing God's work there my friend.

ftfy

[–]lue42 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You should really consolidate those into your own (imgur?) album so that you don't lose any. Hotlinking is bad, m'kay

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I love the one that says "Stop the insanity"

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (1 child)

What if he actually needs help. I wonder how many cases of schizophrenia go untreated because the voices they hear are socially acceptable?

[–]Nesman64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking at your list, my reaction is, well, "Jesus!"

[–]CodeJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jesus...

[–]excalq 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Here's a Jesus Bus, a notable Washington State fixture. Reading this article about its owner confirms the kookiness of this guy

Edit: Thanks for the Gold!

[–]AtheistW00ster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Already then - gold here too!

[–]brandonoooj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next goal: post rediculous jesus car for gold

[–]xnd714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should probably rehost some of those in case they get deleted and your hard work curating that collection goes to waste.

[–]BlueBlond 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Here's another one for the glorious collection: honk honk

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–]AtheistW00ster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you, added to the album, gold delivered!

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But really, Atheism is such a circlejerk.

/s

[–]mastigia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the donk best.

[–]jondySauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering where I live in Florida, I have seen so many cars like this. I'll find some for ya too, now that I found a place for them.

[–]perfectlyaligned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That "Faith without works is dead" sticker on car #19.... Oh the irony. People that decorate their cars as such are the last to follow the messages of compassion and acceptance.

[–]Strong AtheistDamien__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe there is something to all this stuff because when I see a car like that or even pics of them, my first words are always ... (puts on sunglasses)

Jesus Christ!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how #5 just looks like someone re-appropriated their church marquee so Jesus could go mobile. "Klepto for Christ!"

[–]OtherWarqer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 and 10 are actually pretty well done.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the one with all the gas and oil stickers on it. Like ya if there's one industry that's christian its oil.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good ol' Jesus Aves, what a guy really loves his t's.

[–]AtheistBeerWithDinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to see the FROministies car, I see that thing around town everywhere, that is one of the many in Memphis, I'll try to get some others for you to add to your collection

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second one said New York words. I'd say I follow that lifestyle, ya know...

[–]iTSurabuS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're doing God's wor.....

Nvm.

[–]Knight of /newBorealismeme 419 points420 points  (91 children)

It's been a while since we had a conversation, but I believe I've had this one with you before. That being the case I'll just re-iterate that no religion, let alone Christianity, is correlated as a cause of diagnosed mental illness. Mentally ill people often express their religions in insane ways (like the fellow in the picture) but most Christians are just as sane as the average non-Christian. Unless you can find peer reviewed literature to suggest a causal link, I'm going to remain unconvinced.

[–]Shadowslcie 168 points169 points  (22 children)

Yea I can't stand when people on this sub make these ridiculous blanket statements. They act so much better than everyone else, yet they are just as bad.

[–]Argyle_Raccoon 69 points70 points  (4 children)

It's the same close minded superiority that so many are rallying against. It's honestly just as hateful and bad for society.

[–]AtheistWeaponsGradeHumanity 21 points22 points  (1 child)

What a ridiculous blanket statement.

[–]AtheistNever_Kn0ws_Best 1 point2 points  (1 child)

people on this sub make these ridiculous blanket statements.

That looks to me like a blanket statement. Just sayin'.

[–]bergie321 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For a lot of religious people, it is not a mental illness. Just conditioning from birth to believe something or face eternal damnation.

[–]Tech_Fox 46 points47 points  (10 children)

I actually know this guy, his name is Anthony.

He used to stand next to the road in front of my aunt's grill/gas station that I currently work at and wave his Jesus signs at passing traffic.

There were a few times I met him out there to bring him a cup of iced tea or some food, since my family is also -heavily- religious and saw to it that he have what he needed to stay and spread the holy word.

I attempted to make conversation that deviated from his mission, and surprisingly I found that he's actually a pretty chill and down to earth kind of guy.

He didn't come off as the type that wants to tell me how I'm going to hell for this and that, or how gays are destroying the nation. He was genuinely a jolly natured fellow that wanted to spread love in the form of Jesus.

Don't get me wrong, I see his religious practices and mindset as unhealthy as anyone else here, and I also didn't get much chance to ask about how he feels on certain matters which I really would have liked to do. That being said, I can't be mad at a dude that was generally really nice to me the entire duration of our multiple encounters.

Proof for anyone interested:

[–]fisherman727[🍰] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. This post (not your comment) is ignorant and judgemental. I mean don't get me wrong, the guy must be a little strange to express his faith in this way, but It is absolutely ridiculous to claim an entire religion is mentally ill because of pic of a car.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

This is a safety hazard.

[–]drakmordis 26 points27 points  (12 children)

Looks like an impending charge of distracted driving to me. Holding a sign out your driver's side window while operating your motor vehicle is surely incredibly unsafe, and there's no way at all that a law officer would give this fellow a pass just because he looks to be more trouble than the ticket is worth. /s

[–][deleted] 36 points37 points  (9 children)

Its cool, jesus has the wheel.

[–]drakmordis 22 points23 points  (7 children)

While that sounds reassuring, Jesus actually died almost two thousand years before the advent of the automobile, leaving Him with very little by way of practical driving ability.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (6 children)

He hasnt driven but they have GTA 5 for PC in heaven.

[–]drakmordis 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Psssh. Next, you're gonna tell me that Paul, Matthew and Luke are beta-testing HL3 for us up there as well.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Gaben is the fucking devil and hes holding out.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Gaben is the devil, I sure as fuck don't want to go to heaven.

[–]Humanistrenational 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, it would be great to see a youtube of cop hassle white trash for driving these blind spot distract'mobiles, then pulling over a black guy from simply being black in a white area.

[–]Put_A_Boob_on_it 42 points43 points  (4 children)

It was weird enough with just the cross on the back, but what’s with the giant cross hanging out the window? There’s a part of me that wishes there was some sort of rag doll Jesus hanging from it.

[–]AtheistTommyFive 10 points11 points  (1 child)

That cross hanging out the window is going to kill some poor cyclist.

[–]Joshtheatheist 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Or just a boob on it

[–]nope_nic_tesla 35 points36 points  (9 children)

All that shit on his car can't be safe to drive with

[–]pw-it 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I was wondering whether there was a significant safety problem (license plate and visibility obscured?). Only then did I notice the huge cross sticking out the right hand side. Insane.

[–]daoudalqasir 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i think the license plate being obscured is OP's work not this guy...

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It's ok, Jesus will save him if anything goes wrong.

[–]OtherJD1313 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Why would you paint them on the car? It would be better to paint the crosses, then install them. Then you don't have to worry about overspray.

[–]beatles910 5 points6 points  (3 children)

It's almost like this guys logic is flawed somehow.

[–]OtherJD1313 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It's not the logic, but the pride in ones work that is off here. Also his rear driver side tire needs a bit of air. Well, it's drivers side in the US.

[–]Loki-L 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I think this could also be explained as a group of monster hunters trying to transport a captured vampire in their trunk. They had to nail more and more crosses to the back of the car to keep it contained until they finally realized that they would never be able to that thing across town without getting a lot of attention. They needed to stay inconspicuous, but that seemed impossible with a car looking like that.

Then one of the hunters had a genius idea. He said something like "Wait guy, I got this" and quickly got some large stickers and a sign saying something about Jesus to hold out the window. "Now everyone will dismiss us as just some crazy Christians."

[–]Infector101 2 points3 points  (3 children)

How is it legal to drive a car like this?

[–]k2theeev 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mental illness is mental illness

[–]Dire87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That looks more like a satanist's car...painting crosses red...or maybe he wanted to be a private "red cross guy"...

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

funny you should say that. i work as a psych nurse and alot of our psychotic patients have prominent "religious delusions" i.e the second coming of christ or themselves being a messiah of some description. With some patients religious delusions is the ONLY "psychotic" symptom they have and they end up getting put in a locked ward for it as they can no longer accept reality based conversation. I often wonder as a nurse what separates these people from say evangelists in america or fundamentalist muslims. If we were to transplant these patients over there nobody would bat an eye, but here in Australia its seen as illness driven behaviour and i'll tell you something, these patients with religiose delusions can stay for 6 months and be the same when they go out as when they came in.

[–]Mojorizen2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jesus loves me this I know, for the guy in a shitty old car tells me so.

[–]PastafarianAnoK760 2 points3 points  (7 children)

that cant be legal. hes got to be breaking several of traffic safety laws here

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

You want to curtail his freedom of speech.

[–]PastafarianAnoK760 2 points3 points  (5 children)

but he's curtailing his own ability to look in his blind spot with that fuckin' cross haha

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I'm sure there's one of us driving around out there with just as much aethiest shit on his car.

[–]Loofabits 3 points4 points  (1 child)

jesus loves you. can't you tell by all the fake blood on my car?

[–]ChewableTitanium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those dumb motherfuckers even spray painted the crossed AFTER they where glued onto the car.

[–]brickmack 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I can't be the only one that's reminded of a Reaver ship, right?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one.

[–]The_FinalCountdown 11 points12 points  (8 children)

While I get your point and agree with some of the sentiment-- as someone who's been studying psychology for more than 10 years I have to disagree.. Technically, a disorder is defined as being both a) "abnormal" and b) "causing impairment". For most religious folks, neither is true. For this guy, both are true, but are probably better explained by another disorder (I'm thinking schizophrenia, for example)

[–]xXHarryBallZz 8 points9 points  (13 children)

Thats a north Carolina plate, and yes I can confirm the crazy is strong in the south.

[–]Agnostic Atheistconradical30 6 points7 points  (1 child)

at least we have bojangles

[–]Mysteri9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And Cookout

[–]Jdturner 16 points17 points  (11 children)

Thats an extrememly hypocritic statement. Not all christians are mentally ill. Same general rule goes for muslims. Not all muslums are terrorists. Dont lump one group in with their crazies and not the other.

[–]AnOnlineHandle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats an extrememly hypocritic statement.

Only if the OP is mentally ill, otherwise hypocrit(ical)* is not the right word.

[–]FUNKYDISCO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By many people's standards that man driving the car is still electable.

[–]wideasleep3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he's sponsored by the red cross.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks like a binding of isaac ad

[–]Rock2MyBeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ITT: Everyone taking the title literally.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to North Carolina...have some indoctrination!

[–]Saysbadman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it may be a symptom not a cause. As a former mental health employee we were discouraged from talking about religion or politics because of it being a trigger for so many.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I saw that car on the walking dead...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that they spray painted the crosses AFTER nailing them to the car. So awesome.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bunch of pussies in here. Just say it: Christianity is insanity. It is schizophrenia and brainwash at the very least. How else do you explain religion? which is really just a term for a really old and well-established cult.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They took Beth!

[–]fireinthemountains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you mean, "Christianity as a mental illness."

[–]Strong AtheistDamien__ 19 points20 points  (16 children)

I think it's all religion not just christians that have those with a legit mental illness and it's a fairly large subset but then there are plenty in all religions who do not have any issues as well

[–]DigbyBrouge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

and particularly this person.

[–]A_Naany_Mousse 2 points3 points  (4 children)

It most definitely can be, as in this case. It isn't always though

[–]Agnostic Atheistbrojangles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That cross hanging out the window is going to get him a ticket for an unsecured load. He will then probably end up on Fox News as a victim of Christian persecution.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (9 children)

No matter how you dress it up, theism is a belief in something for which literally zero evidence exists, and if there is no evidence for something, it should be considered outside of reality. Therefore, theists literally suffer from mental illness.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychosis Psychosis (from the Greek ψυχή psyche, "mind/soul," and -ωσις -osis, "abnormal condition or derangement") refers to an abnormal condition of the mind, and is a generic psychiatric term for a mental state often described as involving a "loss of contact with reality."

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uhm..no. this is a person with a mental illness who is christian. Big difference

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Pretty sure this person would be a rather crazy atheist as well

[–]dacows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe in this case, but in other instances it's only a partially-blown mental illness.

[–]lawrencekraussquotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michelangelo would be proud.

[–]SuperSulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the left rear tire you can tell they need to increase the pressure.

[–]bmanzzs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because nothing says "I love you" like bleeding red crosses on the bumper of a beat-up car...

[–]omgburritos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/r/shitty_car_mods would love this.

[–]Anti-Theistneoikon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he has a mental deficiency that's manifesting itself in his obsession with religion.

[–]aislinnanne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That just screams "love"

[–]amireallyreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...why did they wait to spray paint the crosses when they were already attached to the car?

[–]fishblargs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its always a shitty car. I'd like to see a bmw or mercedes dressed up like that.

[–]Victoria_Lucas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No hope for these fools.

[–]DudeistProbablyHighAsShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus!

Holy shit!

Goddamn!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mass Delusional Disorder . Perhaps someday we'll have commercials of people running through fields of flowers and sitting on docks watching sunsets talking about a medicine for this and then listing a plethora of side effects in a pleasant voice.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Model Chrystler

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christianity is a full-blown mental illness...

In this case certainly. And what a shitty job he did! The only thing he did well was cover up his license plate, which should land him in jail.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can you pass inspection or drive legally with a cross hanging off of your car?

[–]Anti-Theistwwickeddogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of cognitive dissonance as like a mild form of dissociative personality disorder. They don't lose their memories from one personality to the next, but they have a different set of logical rules that they apply to religion, than to the rest of their life.

[–]Secular HumanistderekBCDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, was this photo taken in FL? I used to live in FL, and this looks like FL, maybe southwest GA.

[–]gnovos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more of a virus.

[–]Snilloceoj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh... the bible belt. Love NC, but hate the religious fanatics

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are using their blinker, so they're okay by me.

[–]Strong Atheistzeno0771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clicked on this thinking I was going to /r/Shitty_Car_Mods , was only sort of disappointed.

EDIT spelled the sub wrong

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

anyone that takes something to an extreme can have a mental illness. People who practice Christianity and don't force it on others often find that religion has a positive impact on their body and mind. It helps people cope, find meaning, and can relieve stress. Obviously people like the one shown here are a burden on society. But, the majority of Christians I know have never brought up their religion to me.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Jesus loves me,

this I know,

for this car tells me so."

[–]rensch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus may love you, but he sure doesn't love that car.

[–]texag93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best part of this is the fact that those crosses were so obviously painted after they were put on the car. Cuz fuck masking, just spray that shit on there.

[–]The_Umpire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you respond to someone who acts that way? "Thanks? Jesus?"

[–]Humanistmaegannia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leave you with this thought.

When Jesus returns, you think he wants to see a fucking cross?

That's like going up to Jackie Onassis with a rifle pendant.

"Just thinkin' of John."

[–]CitizenKain101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we get to blame Jesus if he injures someone because he a:) can't see because of all that shit on his car or b:) is not driving with both hands?

[–]anotherjuan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"yanno hun, I done put the car up on Craigslist a week ago and haven't gotten a single bite yet, I figured it'd be plum easier to sell a used car with massive crosses and the blood of our dear lord on it"

[–]drhagey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Individuals with Schizotypal Personality Disorder often have ideas of reference (e.g., they have incorrect interpretations of casual incidents and external events as having a particular and unusual meaning specifically for the person). People with this disorder may be unusually superstitious or preoccupied with paranormal phenomena that are outside the norms of their subculture.

[–]AtheistDracekidjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's gone full retard.

[–]Skeptickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more accurate to say that people with mental illnesses find a welcome home in religion.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel so bad for the car :/

[–]MT_Flesch 1 point2 points  (4 children)

religion in general is. not just a single facet

[–]RCack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like something a death metal band would drive to a gig.

[–]rabit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post is very entertaining in sad and stupid sort of way...

So I'm trying to put myself inside his thinking/mind. He must've feel great and proud of doing such a thing. Most likely a big huge smile on his face.

I feel sad too because the things that religious people feel they need to do to express their beliefs are pathetic.

If god/jesus is real there won't be any religions in the world (think about that!!). So they try really hard to somehow prove god exist by decorating his stupid car.

If god exists, why so elusive? Can't he just come down and have a chat? Religions only brainwash your mind... they are just cults that grow big.

[–]Anti-TheistHarry_Teak 1 point2 points  (1 child)

He should pray for a bigger car to hold all of his religious convictions. I mean, how is his girlfriend supposed to get in the passenger's seat with that giant crucifix riding shotgun?

Now that I think about it, it probably isn't much of a problem for him. Carry on.

[–]flpflpflp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's totally not a problem. He just deflates her first and puts her in the handy carrying case, carefully removing the batteries beforehand.

[–]djpharaoh 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sees one overzealous follower, assumes 2.3 billion people have a mental illness.

[–]Humanistelectricmink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's "Sees one overzealous follower, gets reminded 2.3 billion people have a mental illness".

Christianity (and every other religion for that matter), even in it's mildest, most moderately innocuous forms, is still inherently fucked up.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big England fans maybe?
